CALL FOR PAPERS
ACM Transactions on Embedded Systems
Special Issue on "Embedded Systems and Security"
Technological progress in embedded systems has led to their wide deployment
and use in an increasing range of applications, from mobile phones to car,
plane and spacecraft and from digital Ids to military systems in the field.
Embedded systems are being used in autonomous systems (e.g., smart-cards,
PDAs, etc.) as well as in networked systems (mobile phones, TV subscription
boxes, etc.). Several of the applications that use embedded systems require
support for security to a small or large degree, leading to different
security needs of each system and application. These differences in addition
to the resource limitations of embedded systems to implement security have
led to a large number of research and development efforts in the area of
"security and embedded systems".
This special issue will include papers with significant technical
contributions to embedded systems security, while providing an overview of
important research and development efforts in this emerging technical area.
Topics covered in the issue include (but are not limited to):
* security systems architectures with emphasis in embedded systems
* embedded systems in security (hardware and software)
* autonomous secure computing systems
* security subsystems for general-purpose processors
* special-purpose processors for security
* security systems in wireless and mobile networks
* architectures for intellectual property protection
* tamper-proof and tamper-resistant systems
* smart-card technology and applications
* secure Personal Digital Assistants
* security subsystems for e-transactions, e-payments and e-applications

IEEE Network Call for Papers
Protection, Restoration, and Disaster Recovery
http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/net/ntwrk/cfpnetwork2003.pdf
Guest Editors:
Debanjan Saha, Tellium, Inc.
Satish Tripathi, University of California
James Manchester, Tellium, Inc.
Scope:
Technological innovations are enabling today's networks to
carry increasingly higher volumes of data, much of which
is mission critical. As networks grow and become an integral
part of our daily lives, the consequences of a failure
become more pronounced. Even a brief outage can result in
the loss of very large amounts of critical information and
disrupt our day-to-day life and business. Network protection
and automatic restoration can minimize the impact of network
failures. Such protection mechanisms are generally implemented
at several protocol layers and are the subject of this special
issue.
The objective of this special issue of IEEE Network Magazine
is to assemble a series of state-of-the-art articles on protection,
restoration, and disaster recovery in different layers of the network.
In particular, we are interested in tutorial, survey, and original
research articles on, but not limited to, the following topics:
* Traditional SONET/SDH Ring protection mechanisms
* Optical mesh protection, Resilient Packet Ring (RPR)
* IP network restoration - MPLS, fast convergence of routing protocols
* Protection and restoration in ATM and Frame Relay networks
* Restoration in wireless and wireline telephone networks
* Signaling network (SS7 etc.) protection and recovery
* Disaster recovery in OSS and network management systems
* Resiliency at the application layer, emergency services (e.g. 911)
* Multi-tier restoration and interaction of different layers
* Experimental studies, applications impact
Submission Guidelines: Interested authors should submit an electronic
version of the manuscript either in Postscript or PDF format as an
email attachment to one of the guest editors. Additional information
including "Guidelines for authors" is available at the IEEE Network Website:

Subject: [tcgn] CFP: J-SAC Special issue on ALL-IP WIRELESS NETWORKS

(We appologize if you received multiple copies of this Call.)
CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications
ALL-IP WIRELESS NETWORKS
IP (Internet Protocol), which is already a universal network-layer
protocol for wireline packet networks, is becoming a promising
universal network-layer protocol over all wireless systems. IP
provides a globally successful open infrastructure for creating and
providing services and applications. An all-IP wireless and wireline
network could make wireless networks more robust, scalable, and cost
effective. It will also enable the abundant applications and software
technologies developed for IP networks to be used over wireless
networks. Today's many different wireless systems, ranging from PANs
(Personal Area Networks), wireless LANs (Local Area Networks) to
wide-area cellular systems, are often not compatible with each other
which makes it difficult for a user to roam from one radio system to
another. No wireless technology has emerged as a common and long-term
universal solution. With IP as the common network layer protocol, an
IP-based mobile device (with multiple radio interfaces or software
defined radio) could roam between different wireless systems.
The papers in this issue will focus on state-of-the-art research in
all-IP wireless networks. Submission for Beyond 3G (B3G) systems will
be included. We solicit papers covering a variety of topics including,
but not limited to, the following topics:
o Systems and Architecture
o Access Protocols
o Transport Protocols
o Signaling Protocols
o Resource Management
o Power Control and Management
o QoS Provisioning
o Security
o Mobile VoIP
o Video over Wireless Internet
o Network Performance Analysis
o Internetworking
o System Integration
Only original and unpublished research papers will be considered.
Authors should follow the IEEE J-SAC manuscript format described in
the Information for Authors on the inside back cover of any issue of
J-SAC. There will be one round of reviews and acceptance will be
limited to papers needing only moderate revisions. Prospective authors
should submit a pdf version of their complete manuscript (which should
be compressed if the file size exceeds 1 Mbyte) online via

Please give this message to interested persons
Please accept our apologies for cross-postings
*******Announcement and Call for Papers / Submissions*******
Mobile Multimedia Communications Conference (MoMuC) 2003
The First Interdisciplinary International Conference on Mobile Business and
Technology
"Opening Up New Frontiers in Mobile Business and Technology"
6-8 October 2003, Munich, Germany
*******refer to www.momuc.org or see pdf-file or below*******
MoMuC 2003 is the eighth in a series of international workshops - Tokyo in
1994, Bristol in 1995, Princeton in 1996, Seoul in 1997, Berlin in 1998,
San Diego in 1999 and Tokyo in 2000 - aimed at stimulating knowledge
exchanges in the emerging and strategically important field of Mobile
Multimedia Communications. 3G, Wireless LAN and systems and technologies
"beyond 3G" have been launched or are under development.
For the first time in this series the business viewpoint of mobile
technologies will be integrated to complement technological issues. During
the last years it has become increasingly obvious that the technological
push of new wireless technologies will not result in successful products if
the opportunities are not carefully evaluated in particular from the
customer point of view.
MoMuC 2003 is organized by the Center for Digital Technology and Management
(CDTM) of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University and Technical University of
Munich and chaired by Prof. Dr. Jorg Eberspacher and Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c.
Arnold Picot.
MoMuc 2003's goal is to bring together researchers, practitioners and
potential users involved in and affected by emerging wireless technologies.
The workshop targets at experts in multimedia systems and mobility issues
on the technological and business side. The impact of the workshop is to
provide an effective forum for original and fundamental advances in Mobile
Multimedia Systems and business models and to foster communication among
researchers and practitioners working in a wide variety of scientific areas
with a common interest in mobile multimedia communication. Also we wish to
provide a timely forum for exploratory research contributions, and to
promote cross-disciplinary interactions in an informal setting.

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE VTC 2003 Symposium
On
Multimedia Services in Wireless Networks
October 4-9, 2003
Hyatt Orlando Hotel Orlando, Florida, USA
SYMPOSIUM CHAIR:
Dr. Sanjeev Verma
Dr. Srinivas Bindignavile
Nokia Research Center,
5 Wayside Road, Burlington, MA-01803.
Motivation and Scope
The Internet is fast emerging as the ubiquitous transport network to
provide wide range of multimedia services like IP Datacast, Streaming and
Multimedia Broadcast. Also, there has been a growing popularity of
portable devices, such as notebook computers, PDAs and mobile phones in
recent years. Now it is possible to provide very high-speed access to
portable devices with emerging technologies like WLAN and 3G networks. This
has lead to the search for newer applications and algorithms that can add
value to an end-user's experience by combining multimedia services with
mobile specific services.
The research issues to provide multimedia services in wireless environments
are numerous. We are seeking papers that are original, unpublished, and not
currently under review by an other conference, workshop, or journal. Topics
of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
-- QoS issues with multimedia services.
-- Signaling architecture to support multimedia services in next generation
wireless networks.
-- Multimedia Security.
-- Architectural issues in providing multimedia services in heterogeneous
wireless environments.
-- Location and mobility issues.
-- System modeling and performance evaluation.
-- Protocol design, analysis, and optimization.
-- Routing (including multicasting and broadcasting)
-- Joint MAC and network layer optimization issues to provide multimedia
services in emerging wireless networks.
-- Congestion, admission, and flow control.
-- Implementation and test-bed experiments.
Submission Guidelines
Authors MUST submit a short abstract submission (approximately 150 words in
the EDAS web site form) AND an extended abstract (up to 2 pages) also
submitted through the EDAS web site. The extended abstracts are soft copy
in MS Word or PDF file formats. The submission must include the name,
complete mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and the email address
of the author(s). Extended abstracts should be submitted electronically (MS
Word or PDF) by February 15, 2002.
Important Dates
February 15, 2003: Last date for submission of abstracts
April 15, 2003 : Notification of acceptance
July 15, 2003 : Camera-ready version of accepted papers
