CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd International Workshop on
Mobile Distributed Computing (MDC'04)
http://www.comp.polyu.edu.hk/~mdc04
In conjunction with the 24th International Conference on
Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2004)
Tokyo, Japan, March 23 - 26, 2004
With the advance in mobile wireless communication technology, research in
distributed computing is beginning to extend its scope to address problems
relevant to mobile environments. The special characteristics of mobile
environments, such as highly variable connectivity, disconnection,
location-dependency, and energy and resource sensitivity, and the diversity
and flexibility introduced by mobile systems bring new challenges for
research in distributed computing. Existing solutions, tailored primarily
for wired distributed environments, need to be modified/extended, and new
solutions need to be created. Mobile distributed computing has emerged as a
discipline of distributed systems research and practice toward support for
mobility. It is concerned with creating solutions using mobile
communication networks and mobile computing devices to enable the sharing
of distributed resources/services and to facilitate remote collaborations
while people work away from the fixed, wired facilities.
Following the success of the first workshop MDC'03, held in conjunction
with ICDCS'03 in Providence, Rhode Island USA, MDC'04 provides a forum for
scientists and engineers in academia and industry to exchange and discuss
their experiences, new ideas, research results, and products about all
aspects of mobile distributed computing. Topics of particular interest
include, but are not limited to:
* Distributed algorithms for communication, synchronization and
coordination in mobile computing environments
* Cooperating mobile agents
* Environments, middleware and tool support for mobile distributed
computing
* Fault tolerance and security in mobile distributed environments
* Location-based services and applications
* Pervasive computing
* Mobile cluster computing / Mobile grid computing/ Mobile
Peer-to-Peer computing
* Resource/service sharing and management in mobile distributed
environments
* Mobile distributed transactions
* Distributed applications in mobile environments
Paper Submission:
MDC 2004 invites authors to submit original and unpublished work. Papers
must be written in English and should not exceed 6 pages in IEEE
proceedings style. Authors should submit a PostScript (level 2) or PDF file
that will print on a PostScript printer. Electronic submission through the
submission website is strongly encouraged. Hard copies will be accepted
only if electronic submission is not possible. Submission implies the
willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the
paper. Accepted papers will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press.
Important Dates:
Papers due Sep. 20, 2003
Notification of acceptance Nov. 1, 2003
Camera-ready papers due Dec. 20, 2003

Call for Papers
The 3rd International Symposium on
Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN'04)
Sponsorship by ACM SIGBED, IEEE Signal Processing Society,
IEEE Communication Society
Pending sponsorship by NSF and DARPA
April 26-27, 2004
Berkeley, California, USA
http://ipsn04.cs.uiuc.edu/
* Submission Deadline: October 27, 2003 *
Following the success of the first two Workshops
(www.parc.com/events/ipsn03), the 3rd International Symposium on
Information Processing in Sensor Networks will bring together
researchers from academia, industry, and government to present and
discuss recent work in this emerging field.
Driven by advances in MEMS micro-sensors, wireless networking, and
embedded processing, ad-hoc networks of sensors are becoming
increasingly available for commercial and military applications such
as environmental monitoring (e.g., traffic, habitat, security),
industrial sensing and diagnostics (e.g., factory, appliances),
critical infrastructure protection (e.g., power grids, water
distribution, waste disposal), and situational awareness for
battlefield applications.
Information processing in sensor networks draws upon many disciplines
including signal processing/detection/estimation, networking and
protocols, embedded systems, data bases and information management, as
well as distributed algorithms. It opens up new research venues, which
include sensor tasking and control, tracking and localization,
probabilistic reasoning, sensor data fusion, distributed data bases,
communication protocols and theory that address network coverage,
connectivity, and capacity, as well as system/software architecture
and design methodologies. Moreover, all these issues have to consider
many cross-cutting requirements such as efficiency/cost tradeoff,
robustness, self-organization, fault-tolerance, timeliness,
scalability, and network longevity.
This Symposium will address issues from physical device design, to
signal processing and from networking to coordination protocols. The
Symposium will place special attention to revolutionary new
applications that are enabled by sensor network technology.
Topical areas of sensor networks include, but not limited to:
* Distributed and collaborative signal processing
* Network protocols for sensor networks
* Coding, compression, and information theory
* Distributed query processing
* Detection, classification, estimation, and tracking
* Network coverage, connectivity, and longevity
* Sensor tasking and control
* Embedded architectures and tools
* In-network processing and aggregation
* Data storage in sensor networks
* Location and time services
* Energy and resource management
* Distributed inference and fusion
* Programming models and languages
* Real-time scheduling
* Security and fault tolerance
* Simulation tools and environments
* Networked sensing and control
* Applications of sensor networks (e.g., automotive, battlefield,
biology, construction, disaster recovery, environmental, medical,
security)
Along with a set of high-quality technical papers, IPSN'04 will also
include invited talks that highlight the state-of-the-art of sensor
network applications and research. The Symposium program will include
poster sessions that provide researchers with opportunity to discuss
their evolving ideas and gather feedback from the sensor network
community at large. The Symposium will also include industrial
exhibition and demonstrations.

Betreff: WWW 2004 Education Track Call for Papers
Liebe Kollegen und Kolleginnen,
Anbei der Call for Papers für die 13. International World Wide Web
Conference, die diesmal in New York u.a. wieder mit dem Spezialthema
Education / E-Learning stattfindet, als Anregung zur Einreichung und
Weiterverteilung.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

==================================================================
Thirteenth International World Wide Web Conference
May 2004, New York
EDUCATION TRACK
The World Wide Web has caused a revolution in the way we teach and
learn. The technology enables us to provide interactive learning
material in new ways, to support learning collaboration and learning
communities, to provide personalized learning experience, and to
incorporate diverse re-usable learning objects into the local learning
experience. Furthermore it provides the possibility to create new
learning designs to make learning more flexible, adaptable, attractive
and accessible to learners.
To make these and other experiences possible, many educational and
training projects do not just bring new learning materials or designs
to the Web but also contribute quite a few Web-related methodologies
or technology. The WWW2003 Education Track is aimed at researchers who
wish to share innovative experiences and research results that are (at
least partially) domain independent and that can thus benefit other
teachers and learners who wish to get more out of the Web.
Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
- Web educational portal and learning management systems
- Authoring of Web-based learning material
- Architectures and designs for web-based learning delivery environments
- Identification, reuse and granularity issues of learning objects

Hyatt Regency Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia, USA
The Applied Telecommunication Symposium (ATS) is an international forum
for exchange of technical knowledge and presentation of original papers on
the analysis of telecommunication systems and technologies. It is intended
for professionals, engineers, software developers, managers, and others
interested in cellular and packet traffic characteristics, analysis of
telecommunication networks, and practitioners operating
telecommunication networks. We are looking for innovative technical
papers describing projects, applications, and research and development
work pertinent to telecommunication. The following tracks (with track
chairs listed) will be held; the topics are representative of the track,
but are not necessarily exclusive to that track:
