Betreff: [Elan-bs] 1. Call for Papers zum E-Learning-Workshop Hannover
27.-28.9.2004
1. Einladung (1. Call for Papers, English short summary see below) zum
E-Learning Workshop Hannover "Einsatzkonzepte und
Geschäftsmodelle" am Montag 27. und Dienstag 28. September 2004 im
Leibnizhaus, Holzmarkt 4 - 6, 30159 Hannover
=> http://www.iwi.uni-hannover.de/elw2004.html
Wirtschaftlichkeit (=> Einsatzkonzepte). Zweitens wird der
Wirtschaftlichkeit des öffentlich finanzierten und
privatwirtschaftlichen E-Learnings noch einmal besondere
Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt, da in Zeiten rasch abnehmender
Szenarien

IWAN 2004
Sixth Annual International Working Conference on Active Networks
October 27-29, 2004 The University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS US
CALL FOR PAPERS
SCOPE: Active networking aims at providing easy,
but robust, introduction of new network services
to devices such as routers and switches by adding
dynamic programmability to network equipment.
Network programmability and service deployment
architectures bring just the right services to
the customer at just the right time and location.
With the accelerating trend towards mobility,
ad-hoc networks, and content-aware distribution,
active and programmable networks will play an
important role in future network architectures.
IWAN 2004 brings together members of various
communities using active and related techniques
to address these challenges and provides a forum
for discussion and collaboration involving
researchers, developers, service providers and
potential users. We encourage the submission of
papers that cover all aspects of active network
based communication, including foundations of
robust languages and security mechanisms, active
transport, active services and service
deployment, active terminals, and active
management. In addition, the meeting will focus
on relating active techniques to customer needs
and services. It is expected that most
submissions will include proofs of concept and/or
quantitative results. However, we welcome high
quality descriptive contributions where the ideas
are particularly novel or where the concepts
introduced are likely to influence the work of
others. Authors are invited to submit papers
addressing, but not limited to, the following
active networking topics:
--- Architectures and new concepts for Active Networks
--- Standardization of frameworks

2nd International Workshop on Middleware for
Pervasive and Ad-Hoc Computing
http://www.smartlab.cis.strath.ac.uk/MPAC/
A Workshop of Middleware 2004
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
October 18th - 22nd, 2004
Problem Space
Building on the success of the 2003 workshop, this workshop
seeks to develop, through establishing the state of the art,
a roadmap for research on essential software infrastructures
for ad-hoc and pervasive computing. Marc Weiser's dream is
one of a world of pervasive devices, leveraging contextual
information, to provide an increasingly interactive and
responsive environment to users, to aid them in their
everyday activities.
However, despite considerable progress, the promise of
pervasive computing outlined by Mark Weiser still remains
elusive, with most developments focusing on point-examples
of technology. There is a need for processing, storage and
network infrastructure to support as well as development
tools, in order to build large scale pervasive systems.
We believe that central to these infrastructures are
underpinning middleware technologies. In particular,
that pervasive computing middleware will allow you to
take advantage of the resources in your environment to
tailor your services and applications for seamless access
to services and unrestricted mobility. Ad-hoc networking
middleware will permit the formation of ad-hoc communities
for new applications. However, existing middleware technologies
do not fully exploit the potential of such pervasive and ad-hoc
environments. For instance, current ad hoc middleware technologies
focus on the use of ad hoc networks as connection-ware to connect
a single user to a single device for accessing its services or
resources.
In this workshop we focus on these core areas of middleware for
ad-hoc and pervasive systems. We seek to compliment the discussion
and presentations at Middleware 2004, by providing a forum focused
on the specific problems of large scale, real world, pervasive
computing environments through the identification of appropriate
core architectures, languages, and systems. Moreover, we seek to
develop a community of researchers who will specifically target
the development of practical and sustainable pervasive environments
and provide the key elements needed by future developers of
large-scale pervasive environments.
The workshop will seek papers on the areas, but not limited to, listed
below:
Theoretical foundations and middleware support for context based
adaptation for mobile pervasive systems;
New notations for specifying context-sensitive systems;
Ad-hoc communities: applications, infrastructure and middlware support;
Roles and responsibilities in ad-hoc communities;
Group management and communication support for ad-hoc communities;
Ad-hoc network communications, quality of service, management and
middleware support;
Sensor networks: applications, infrastructure and middleware support;
Service-connection middleware and architectures;
Support for zero configuration;
Middleware for self-assembly, self-configuration, self-distribution;
Data management infrastructure for adhoc and pervasive systems
Trust, security, and privacy for pervasive systems;
Technology trade-offs (agent infrastructures, mobile code systems, event
based middleware);
Resource discovery and management;
Implications of heterogeneity (addressing needs for protocol interaction
across technologies).
Submission
The workshop format will be focused around submission of position papers
of no more than 8 pages. Papers are solicited that present a view of the
state of the art in a particular sub-problem area and which then present
a position on the how/what/why for the next stages and challenges for
middleware technologies. 75% of the workshop will be devoted to
presentation
and discussion of these papers. The remaining 25% of time will be
devoted
to developing the outline of a roadmap and engaging all participants in
the
further writing and publication.
Papers will be reviewed by at least 2 members of the programme
committee.
The review process will be based upon identifying the veracity of the
state-of-the-art statement and the relevance and potential of the
position
statement to contribute to the elaboration of the roadmap.
Appropriate publication of the workshop submissions and the roadmap is
being investigated.

Scope of EWSN 2005:
===================
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are fast emerging as a new sensing
paradigm based on the collaborative effort of large number of sensors
deployed close to or inside the phenomenon to be observed, and have
the potential of providing diverse services to numerous applications.
The realization of WSNs require intensive technical research efforts
especially on energy efficient scalable wireless ad hoc communication
protocols due to their unusual application requirements and unique
constraints. Additionally, WSNs are further evolving from simple data
transportation networks to functionally rich distributed systems such
that the tasks of event sensing and acting upon the phenomenon can be
collectively realized in an autonomous manner by sensor and actuator
nodes.
The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers from
different backgrounds ranging from hardware to applications, to
create a forum where cross-layer integration, novel solutions for
specific problems, and the future development of WSN functionalities
can be discussed.
We encourage contributions describing innovative work on WSN. Areas
of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Hardware for WSN: transceiver concepts, wakeup radio, antenna
design, system integration, process and cost of manufacturing,
battery technology, energy scavenging
* Communication protocols: MAC and link layer problems, routing and
transport protocols tailored for WSN, redundancy, data aggregation,
and mobility support; gateways to fixed Internet; providing
functionalities like localization and synchronization
* Source coding techniques appropriate for WSN to support data fusion
* Middleware for WSN: Configuration and installation support, lookup
of available functionalities, group communication, distributed
algorithms in WSN, harmonizing node-centric and data-centric
addressing, integrating WSN in middleware architectures like .NET
* Security: primitives for appropriate cryptographic protocols,
secure system engineering
* Applications of WSN: novel applications and their requirements such
as medicine, environment control, etc.; experiences with real-world
applications
* What part will WSNs play in realizing the visions of ubiquitous
computing & communication and Ambient Intelligence.
* Prototypes, field studies, and testbeds: novel sensor node
prototypes, measurements within sensor network testbeds
* Modeling of WSN: models for WSN load/applications, mobility or
channel models
