Subject: [Tccc] Organizing a new ComSoc Technical Committee
Date: Tue, 1 Jun 2004 14:03:52 EDT
From: HAFREEMAN(a)aol.com
To: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
Proposed Ad Hoc & Sensors Communications & Networks Technical Committee
Given the large number of papers submitted on the topics of Ad Hoc and
Sensors Communications and Networks, the IEEE Communications Society is
sponsoring a new Conference on this topic to be held October 4-7, 2004.
For more information, go to http://www.ieee-secon.org/2004
In addition to this, we would like to start a new Technical Committee
covering this subject. If you are interested in being a member or being
one of the leaders and learning about the procedures for becoming a new
committee, please come to an informational meeting at ICC2004
(http://www.ieee-icc.org/) in Providence I-III in the Newport Bay Center
from 5:45 to 6:45 pm on Monday, June 21, 2004. If you cannot make it to
France for this meeting and are interested, please send me an email
indicating what part you wish to play -- leader, organizer, member, etc.
Thanks
Harvey Freeman

Call for Papers for a Special Issue on
"WLAN/3G Integration for Next-Generation Heterogeneous Mobile Data Networks"
http://www.di.uoa.gr/~passas/WLAN-3G-CFP.htm
===================================================
The recent evolution and successful deployment of Wireless Local Area
Networks (WLANs) has yield a demand to integrate WLANs with third-generation
(3G) cellular networks, such as GSM/GPRS, UMTS, cdma2000, etc. The key goal
of this integration is to develop heterogeneous mobile data networks,
capable to support ubiquitous data services with very high data rates in
strategic locations. The effort to develop such heterogeneous networks is
linked with many technical challenges including seamless vertical handovers
across WLAN and 3G radio technologies, security, 3G-based authentication,
unified accounting & billing, WLAN sharing (by several 3G networks),
consistent QoS and service provisioning, etc. The need to address these
issues and provide timely, solid technical contributions in the area of
WLAN/3G integration establishes the motivation behind this special issue
proposal. In response to the above demand for integrated WLAN/3G mobile data
networks, the proposed special issue aims at providing a timely and concise

Subject: [Tccc] WONS 2005 Conference - Preliminary Announcement and CFP
Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 12:58:57 +0200
From: Raffaele Bruno <raffaele.bruno(a)iit.cnr.it>
To: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
Our sincere apologies if you receive multiple copies of this call for papers
PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
================================================
Call for Papers for the
Second International Conference on
WIRELESS ON DEMAND NETWORKS AND SERVICES
(WONS 2005)
in St. Moritz, Switzerland
January 19-21, 2005
Wireless networks, be it Wi-Fi access, mobile ad hoc as well
as sensor networks, aim at providing ubiquitous connectivity
and network centric services to the masses and to massively
networked systems. An important attribute of such networks is
that they can be deployed "on demand" with minimal planning
and management effort as well as with little dependency on
existing network infrastructures. Concepts like ambient
intelligence and disappearing computers that are part of a
global and fully self-organized Internet hint at the scope
of this vision, but also at the formidable challenges that
come with it.
For this conference we request submissions of high quality
research papers on "wireless on demand networks" that provide
novel insights on protocol and network design, modelling and
performance evaluation, pricing and profitability models, QoS
models, practical implementations, service level aspects and
Internet integration of wireless networks.
Topics related to wireless ad hoc networks and sensor networks
comprise, but are not limited to:
o Architecture and Design
o Analysis through simulation and experimental evaluation
o Internet integration
o Social and economic aspects
o Pervasive / ubiquitous computing
o Localization and mobility management
o Security
o Energy-efficient protocols and power management
o Applications and Service Support
o Data dissemination and peer2peer systems
PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
================================
Submitted papers must not have been published elsewhere nor
currently be under review by another conference or journal.
For paper submission, a web page with detailed information
will be activated in few days.
All papers will be reviewed by the program committee.
Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings
published by LNCS.
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
===================
- August 2nd, 2004: Submission deadline (hard)
- September 29, 2004: Acceptance notification
- October 18, 2004: Final version due
VENUE
=====
The meeting will take place in the famous winter resort of
St. Moritz, in Switzerland. This place is synonymous with
quality and elegance. The magnificent landscape of the Swiss
