-------
Technology evolution is driving toward a world of wireless, mobile, and =
multimedia pervasive communications where users can seamlessly and =
ubiquitously accomplish their tasks, access information or communicate =
with other users all the anytime, everywhere, and from any device. =
Technologies include, among others, IEEE 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, Mobile =
IP, micro-mobility protocols, IP paging, wireless IP QOS, mobile ad hoc =
and sensor networks, and cellular networks. In addition to these, new =
and emerging technologies (e.g., UWB) need to be taken into account. The =
resulting networking environment will constitute the fourth generation =
wireless networks. 4G will integrate different types of wireless =
networks with wire-line backbone network seamlessly, and provide the =
convergence of voice, multimedia and data traffic over a single IP based =
core network.
WoWMoM 2005 technical program committee is soliciting papers addressing =
the research challenges toward a world of wireless, mobile, and =
multimedia pervasive communications. Two types of contributions will be =
accepted:
FULL PAPERS. Full Papers must present original, previously unpublished, =
complete works, validated by experimentation, simulation, or analysis. =
Practical experiences and experimental efforts are welcome.
POSITION PAPERS. Papers in this category must be visionary, innovative =
and forward-looking. They must offer new perspectives opening future =
research directions, rather than by presenting mature work with =
quantitative results. Only a limited number of slots will be available =
for position papers that will be reviewed primarily for relevance and =
originality.
Topics of interest for WOWMOM 2005 include, but are not limited to, the =
following:
- System prototypes and experiences
- Software technologies and systems
- QoS for real-time voice and video in wireless networks

CALL FOR PAPERS
2005 IEEE Workshop on High Performance Switching and Routing (HPSR 2005)
May 12-14, 2005
Hong Kong, China
http://www.cs.ust.hk/hpsr05
Technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE Communications Society
Phenomenal growth in Internet traffic has moved the Internet from a
convenience to a mission-critical platform.
The advent of broadband access for end-users has raised expectations for
IP performance and reliability.
As a result, there is a great demand for Gigabit/Terabit
electronic/optical routers and switches.
These switches/routers must not only have an aggregate Gigabits/Terabits
capacity, but should also be coupled
with forwarding rates of billions of packets per second, quality
guarantees for differentiated services, a wide
variety of interface types, scalability in terms of capacity and port
density, and backward compatibility with a
wide range of packet formats and routing protocols. The scope of the
High Performance Switching and
Routing (HPSR) Workshop is focused on the technology of high-speed
switches and routers, including
the architectural and algorithmic aspects of high-speed IP networks,
possibly adopting optical technologies
and wireless user accesses. HPSR 2005 will include technical sessions
for the presentation of novel research
results, panel sessions for the discussion of hot topics, and tutorials
presented by leading international experts.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- High performance switch and router architectures:
Analysis and simulation,
Electronic and optical switching fabrics,
Field trials,
Impact of higher layer protocols and services,
Implementations,
Measurements,
Prototypes,
System development
- Routing Protocols
- IP over Optical Networks
- P2P Networks
- Performance Evaluation and Measurement
- Metering and Monitoring
- Sensor Networks
- High Speed Packet Processors
- Quality of Service
- Traffic Measurement
- Mobile and Ad-hoc Networking
- Wireless Networks
- Network Management and Operations
- WDM Switching and Routing
- Traffic, accounting, and charging
- Protection and Recovery
- MPLS and GMPLS
- Traffic Engineering and Control
IMPORTANT DEADLINES:
December 10th, 2004: Extended Abstract due

The Ninth IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network
Management (IM 2005) will be held 16-19 May 2005 in Nice, France. IM
2005 will present the latest technical advances in the area of
management, operations and control of networks,
networking services, networked applications, and distributed systems.
Held in odd-numbered years since 1989 and taking turns with its sibling
conference NOMS, IM 2005 will build on the successes of its predecessors
and serve as the primary forum for
technical exchange among the research, standards, vendor and user
communities in the network management field. The symposium is sponsored
by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP)
Working Group 6.6 on Management of Networks and
Distributed Systems, and by the IEEE Communications Society Technical
Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
We are witnessing the dawn of a new era in networking. New networked
worlds emerge in which connectivity becomes increasingly ubiquitous and
the infrastructure blends in seamlessly with business functions,
applications, and the supported environment.
These new worlds are characterized by properties such as convergence,
context awareness, accelerated service lifecycles, virtualization of
resources, massive P2P infrastructures, and unprecedented security
challenges. Further, new types of networks are
emerging such as sensor, agent, storage-area, and grid-based networks.
All of this incurs new challenges and opportunities for network
management and the ways in which it is approached, requiring management
technology to evolve as rapidly as the new
networked worlds.IM 2005 will be organized into technical sessions,
panels, and tutorials. In addition, it will feature an industrial
experience track to share practical lessons learned by the user and
vendor communities, posters, birds-of-a-feather
sessions, and vendor exhibits. In the tradition of previous events, we
strive to make the IM 2005 Symposium the highest quality professional
event of the year. Paper submissions will undergo a stringent review
process implemented by the Technical Program
Committee, which includes many of the most respected experts in the
field.
Detailed submission instructions are available on the symposium Web

Supported by the IEEE Computer Society
http://www.site.uottawa.ca/~boukerch/ipdpswman.html
SCOPE:
The field of wireless and mobile computing is an important research
challenging area, that emerges from the integration among personal
computing distributed computing, cellular technology and the Web. This is
possible due to the continuously increasing interaction between
communication and computing, which is changing the information access from
the current reactive ``anytime anywhere'' into the incoming proactive
``all the time everywhere'' approach. Nowadays, there is a large variety
of networks spanning from the well-known cellular networks to
non-infrastructured wireless networks such as mobile ad hoc networks and
sensor networks.
This scenario raises a number of interesting, and difficult, algorithmic
issues in diverse areas such as location management, resource allocation,
ubiquitous information, network connectivity, reliability and security,
and energy consumption.
This workshop is intended to cover contributions in both the design and
analysis of discrete algorithms and the system modelling in the context of
mobile, wireless, ad-hoc, and sensor networks. In particular, it aims at
bringing together the practitioners and theoreticians of the field. We are
seeking for papers that are original, unpublished and not currently under
review. The objective of this workshop is to bring together leading
technologists and researchers in these ``critical areas'' of research in
order to have a forum for discussing fundamental challenges, identifying
future perspectives, and exchanging ideas about ongoing research.
Authors are solicited to submit original unpublished manuscripts for this
workshop. Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings (by IEEE CS
Press) of the IPDPS workshops.
TOPICS:
The scope of this workshop includes, but is not limited, to:
* frequency and channel assignment algorithms
* cryptography and security
* distributed algorithms
* pricing modeling and solutions
* algorithms for satellite communications
* mechanisms design and cooperation enforcement
* algorithms and modeling on satellite and radio networks
* algorithms for resource management in mobile, wireless and ad-hoc networks
* data management on mobile and wireless computing
* algorithms for single-hop and multiple-hop packet radio networks
* routing, and communication primitives in ad hoc and sensor networks
* synchronization and scheduling issues in mobile and ad hoc networks
* energy saving protocols for ad hoc and sensor networks

PERVASIVE 2005 - Call for Papers
---
PERVASIVE 2005 invites original and significant research
contributions in the area of pervasive computing technologies,
systems and applications. This conference seeks to present
advances in computing technology toward new modes of operation
(ubiquitous, continuous, and self-organized) and toward new usage
models (ambient, context-aware, and integral with human activity
and environments).
Building on the success of previous conferences in this series
held in Zurich (August 2002) and in Linz/Vienna (April 2004),
PERVASIVE 2005 will include a highly selective single-track
program for technical papers, accompanied by posters, videos,
demonstrations, workshops, and a doctoral colloquium. Papers will
be included in the conference proceedings published by Springer-
Verlag as Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) and will also
be made available through digital libraries. Extended abstracts
for poster, video and demo contributions will be included in
adjunct proceedings for the conference attendees.
The conference particularly values practical experience with
design, deployment and use of pervasive systems and applications,
and investigation of exciting and inspiring ideas and
technologies. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Device, communication, and interaction technologies for
pervasive computing
* Pervasive sensing and perception, and location and context
technologies
* Software infrastructure for pervasive computing systems and
environments
* Design, implementation and evaluation of pervasive systems and
applications
* Pervasive computing user interfaces and user experience
* Privacy, security and trust in pervasive computing
Paper Submission
---
For PERVASIVE 2005 we are soliciting high quality technical papers
that describe original, unpublished research on pervasive
computing. Submissions should report concrete, significant, and
transferable results that help advance the state of the art in
pervasive computing. All papers will be peer-reviewed by members
of the PERVASIVE 2005 program committee and by additional expert
reviewers from relevant research communities. PERVASIVE 2005
requires that submissions have not been published previously and
that papers submitted are not under simultaneous review for any
other conference, journal or other publication.
Papers for PERVASIVE 2005 should be formatted according to the
Springer-Verlag LNCS style. We solicit papers of up to 18 pages
but explicitly welcome shorter papers of up to 10 pages for
presentation of pointed results. All paper submissions will be
treated as full papers but it is important that their length is
appropriate for their content.
Paper submissions have to be anonymized to facilitate blind
review. Authors should take care throughout their paper that their
and their institution's identity is not revealed. However relevant
references to an author's previous research should not be
suppressed as they may be required for reviewers to understand and
evaluate the paper's contribution.
Late Breaking Results, Videos and Demonstrations
---
PERVASIVE 2005 aims to be a forum to communicate novel and
innovative ideas and very recent findings in pervasive computing.
PERVASIVE 2005 will include a poster, video and demo program to
give researchers opportunity to present their research in a
variety of engaging formats. We explicitly encourage submission
of late breaking results and work in progress in these categories.
Workshops
---
Workshops provide an opportunity to discuss areas of special
interest within pervasive computing with like-minded researchers
and practitioners. Workshops will be focussed and aimed at sharing
of understandings, experiences, and ideas on particular aspects of
pervasive computing. Workshop proposals may be related to any
topic of pervasive computing. Please contact the Workshops Chair
Antonio Krüger (krueger(a)cs.uni-sb.de) if you would like to propose
a workshop.
There will be a workshop on Location- and Context-Awareness (LoCA 2005)
at the German Aero Space Center (DLR) near Munich on the 12th and 13th
of May 2005, see http://loca2005.context-aware.org/ for details.
Doctoral Colloquium
---
A doctoral colloquium will be held directly before the main
conference, as a forum for PhD students to present, discuss and
defend their work in progress. This will build on the huge success
of the PERVASIVE 2004 doctoral colloquium held at the University
of Linz, at which 28 PhD students from around the world discussed
their work with an international group of advisors selected from
across the pervasive computing community.

System Aspects in Organic and Pervasive Computing
Innsbruck, Austria, March 14-17, 2005

Extended Paper Submission Deadline: October 3, 2004
=======================================================================
Future computer systems will be much more integrated into the fabric of
everyday life than today's computers are. They will become smaller, more
appropriate for their use, integrated into everyday objects and often
virtually or physically invisible to the users. They will be also
deployed in a much higher quantity and penetrate many application areas
To provide such features and functionality, computer devices become
tinier yet still increase in complexity; they must consume less power,
while still supporting advanced computation and communications, such
that they are highly connected yet still operate as autonomous units.
This brings several research topics to the fore, including ultra-low
power consumption, self-awareness, adaptive networking, smart behavior
of systems, scalability and complexity of devices and systems.
Pervasive and ubiquitous computing research addresses such issues by
developing concepts and technology for interweaving computers into our
everyday life. The principle approach is to enhance system functionality
and adaptability by recognizing context and situations in the
environment. Organic computing then addresses high system complexity by
drawing analogies from complex biological systems, with the
human-centered goal of self-organization. Organic computing
investigates the design and implementation of self-managing systems that
are selfconfiguring, self-optimizing, self-healing, self-protecting,
context aware, and anticipatory. ARCS 2004 will emphasize the design,
realization and analysis of the emerging computing systems for organic
and pervasive computing and their scientific, engineering, and commercial
applications. The conference focuses on system aspects of organic and
pervasive computing in software and hardware. In particular, system
integration and self-management of hardware, software and networks are
in the centre of interest.
ARCS 2005 continues and replaces the biennial series of German
Conferences on Architecture of Computing Systems. This 18th conference
in the series serves as a forum to present current work on all aspects
of computer and systems architecture. Besides its main focus, the
conference is open for more general and interdisciplinary themes in
operating systems, networking, and computer architecture. Papers
pertaining to aspects of computer and systems architecture, in particular
in the field of organic and pervasive computing are sought, including:
Enabling Technologies and Infrastructure
- operating systems
- middleware for organic, pervasive and peer-to-peer computing
- multi-agent and mobile agent systems
- bio-analogue and artificial-life systems
- context and locality
- low power systems design
- machine-learning, prediction, pro-activity
- system design and simulation
- reconfigurable hardware and software systems
- safety, security, reliability
- self-managing service configuration
Architectures and Systems
- computer and system architecture
- modular distributed devices
- self-managing, self-healing and fault-tolerant systems
- real-time systems
- mobile and wearable devices
- embedded systems (consumer electronics, automotive)
Applications
- scenarios for ubiquitous and pervasive computing
- autonomic environments
- network server architectures and network based applications
- semantic networks
- ubiquitous, home and wireless networking
The conference is organized by the special interest group on Computer
and Systems Architecture of the GI (Gesellschaft für Informatik -
German Informatics Society) and ITG (Informationstechnische
Gesellschaft - Information Technology Society), supported by OCG
(Austrian Computer Society), OVE/GIT (Austrian Electrotechnical
Associastion) and electrosuisse (ITG), and held in cooperation with
IFIP, ACM and IEEE (approval requested). In addition to technical
sessions of contributed paper presentations, the conference will offer
invited presentations, workshops, and tutorials. The conference
proceedings will be published in the 'Lecture Notes in Computer Science'
series by Springer-Verlag. Papers should not exceed 15 pages
(approximately 5000 words) in Springer LNCS style. We accept only
electronic submissions in postscript or pdf format. The URL of the
submission site is http://www.teco.edu/arcs05/ . Selected papers will
be published in the Personal and Ubiquitous Computing Journal.
Workshops are intended to discuss themes related to the conference and
should be open to all ARCS attendees. Workshop and Tutorial proposals
