Call for Papers:
2nd International Workshop on Services and
Infrastructure for the Ubiquitous and Mobile Internet
SIUMI 2006
In conjunction with the 26th Int. Conference
on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS'06)
Lisbon, Portugal, July 4th, 2006
( Web site: http://lia.deis.unibo.it/siumi/
pdf version of the SIUMI'06 cfp:
http://lia.deis.unibo.it/siumi/cfp.pdf )
Advances in mobile and wireless communication are
enlarging and enhancing the services provided by
the Internet infrastructure towards any time, any
place and any device features. Ubiquitous
services impose new requirements to the entire
infrastructure, from the system to the middleware
and the applications that should adapt
traditional services to different mobile user
terminals and profiles, and embed new functions
and tools to support the new services and new
requirements of the future scenario.
The new Internet service infrastructure can only
succeed on the basis of a strict synergism
between the heterogeneous variety of mobile
wireless devices and the fixed network
organization that should suite and follow the
requirements and constraints imposed by the
wireless and mobile counterpart. The specific
limitations of mobile wireless devices, such as
discontinuity in connections, disconnection, and
energy and resource shortages, connected with the
new location- and context-sensitivity property,
are challenging issues. Only a new methodology to
produce a synergic design of an integrated and
unified middleware can permit the deployment of
all viable and available services that make
possible to consider new properties for fruition,
mainly connected with the new features of
context-awareness. Many different provisioning
scenarios are on the way, from the possibility of
providing non-strict real-time data streaming
adapted to very different wireless devices, by
taking advantage of caching and multicast
wherever possible, to a possibility of creating
dynamic and impromptu communities based on common
current locality and on presently available
heterogeneous devices, by taking into account
different resources and energy consumption limitations
After the encouraging answer to the first
edition, this second workshop intends to offer a
renovated opportunity of putting together
different experiences by providing a forum for
researchers and engineers in academia and
industry to compare and exchange new ideas,
research results, experiences, and products about
different aspects related to Ubiquitous and
Mobile Internet. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
* Distributed platforms
* Content delivery architectures
* Caching and replication
* Peer-to-peer schemes
* Context-based services and applications
* Middleware and software supports
* Mobile-enabled middleware mechanisms
* Personalization and transcoding
* Mobile code and mobile agent technology
* Service deployment and adaptation
* Resource discovery algorithms
* Performance evaluation
* Resource and network monitoring
* Security issues
* QoS-based protocols and servers
* Resource and service management

"Collaborative Virtual Environments for Creative People"
Creative processes often are collaborative in nature, with a group of people
reflecting on an overall theme, jointly contributing thoughts interactively,
and ultimately generating new ideas. Collaborative virtual environments
(CVEs) to support this process, thus, should support the group, provide a
creative atmosphere and comfortable environment, and support the seamless
expression and visualization of ideas. This requires the environment to be
inspiring, to enable a wide range of design options, to allow multiple and
appropriate types of interaction, to provide for seamless interaction,
advanced visualization technologies and simplified sharing mechanisms.
Example application areas of such systems are the design and development of
computer games, art, product design, fashion, digital storytelling
environments, entertainment services, advertising, and architecture or urban
planning.
The aim of this special issue is to provide an overview of innovative and
state-of-the-art research on Collaborative Environments in Virtual Reality
which support the creative process. Paper contributions should discuss in
general how to support creativity with collaborative tools and virtual
environments.
Research questions cover a wide range of topics such as how to
- allow participants with various professional backgrounds, working
languages, and ways of expressing their ideas to collaborate with each other
locally and over distance
- allow for quick and efficient selection of options to express and
visualize innovative ideas, going well beyond support for 2D drawings, text
and voice
- provide a non-technical, human-friendly and supportive work environment
with the focus on creativity
- support the design of multi-dimensional interactive applications
- keep an overview on different activity lines in both the design and the
use of multilevel, multi-dimensional applications
In addition, topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the
following areas:
- Virtual Reality as a Collaborative Working Environment (local and
distributed)
- Group Management, Awareness, and Sharing Support in CVE’s
- CVE’s for the Design and Development of Media-rich Applications
- Advanced, Innovative Human-Computer Interfaces for CVE’s
- Seamless Interaction with CVE’s including Mobile Devices
- User-Centred Design, Human Factors
The special issue will appear in the Springer journal Virtual Reality

*Call for Papers AJICT Special Issue on Rural Communications *
The rapid growth of both fixed and wireless high speed networks have
resulted to fundamental changes to the way of doing business and the
lifestyle of people in many countries. Yet the economy of scale is such
that the emphasis is on the densely populated areas. Many rural areas
are not yet accessible to high speed networks owing to their remote
locations and / or sparse population. The perspectives of service
operators and government, and the needs of rural habitants need to be
taken into consideration. The needed services and the technology to
provide such needs in rural areas are often different from those of the
urban areas. Papers to address these issues with new technologies are
welcome. Please submit online or discuss with the editors about the plan
of your paper.

January 16-19 2006, Sendai, Japan
Important Dates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All deadlines are 23:59:59 GMT. These are *firm* deadlines.
Paper submission deadline: Oct 31, 2005
Notification of acceptance: Nov 30, 2005
Camera-ready versions due: Dec 31, 2005
Scope
~~~~~
Research in NEtwork MObility (NEMO) support mechanisms has been
performed for some years. The purpose of network mobility support
is to manage the change of the point of attachment of the mobile
router connecting an entire network to the Internet topology. This
would allow such a network, known as a "mobile network" (or a
NEMO), to migrate in the IP topology. With such an approach to
mobility management, anything could potentially be connected to the
Internet, particularly PANs (Personal Area Networks, i.e. small
networks attached to people and composed of Internet appliances
like PDAs, mobile phones, digital cameras, etc.), networks of
sensors deployed in vehicles (aircrafts, boats, buses, trains), and
access networks deployed in public transportation (taxis, trains,
aircrafts, trucks and personal cars) to provide Internet access to
devices carried by their passengers (laptop, camera, mobile phone,
and even PANs, therefore exhibiting what is referred to as a nested
NEMO).
The solution NEMO Basic Support (RFC 3963) specified for IPv6 by
the IETF in the NEMO Working Group brings an answer to immediate
needs, i.e. maintaining existing connections open, while
optmization issues are left for later once research in this topic
has reached maturity.
The complexity of the configurations enabled by network mobility
(nested mobility, multihomed NEMO, split NEMO) causes new issues,
particularly on the routing optimization side. It does also
challenge existing mechanisms for security, access control,
multicast and quality of service applied to network mobility.
The goal of the WONEMO workshop is to gather researchers in network
mobility, to share the experience in implementations,
experimentations, and to explore the deployment, usages, and
research issues of NEMO-like networks.
The workshop strongly encourages the submission of papers that
challenge the research community with revolutionary new approaches,
technologies, or usages in the field of NEMO. These
"challenge papers" should provide stimulating ideas or visions that
may open up exciting avenues of far-reaching future
research. Descriptions of new products or simple evolution of
existing work are not appropriate. We solicit full-length papers
presenting original and unpublished work including, but not limited
to the following topics:
- Routing optimization in nested and non-nested NEMO
- NEMO multihomed issues (multiple MRs, multiple prefixes,multiple
interfaces)
- Performances issues
- Security and Access control mechanisms for nested and non-nested
NEMO
- Applications and usages of NEMO Basic Support
- Auto-configuration for NEMO
- Interaction between NEMO and ad-hoc networks
- Simulation of network mobility (protocols and usages)
- Description of actual implementations/experimentations of NEMO
- Multicast in nested and non-nested NEMO
- Simulation models and tools for network mobility
Submission
