Dear All
Re: CFP - International Workshop on Context Aware Networks Technologies
and Applications (CANET'05) - deadline for paper submission* 30th April
2005*
This is a kind reminder. The deadline for submission is coming up very
soon. Please find enclosed the CfP for a workshop that is particularly
relevant to the of E-Next WG5. This is an excellent opportunity to
present your work in this area and I am counting on you to receive many
good submissions from E-NEXT members to make CANET05 a success.

CfP - Call for Papers
=====================
International Workshop on Context Aware Networks Technologies and
Applications (CANET'05)
Held in conjunction with MATA'05 and INTELLCOMM'05, October 17-19, 2005,
Montreal Canada
MATA'05: 2nd International Conference on Mobility Aware Technologies and
Applications (Formerly Mobile Agents for Telecommunication
Applications);_ www.congresbcu.com/mata2005/
_INTELLICOMM'05: The 2005 IFIP International Conference on Intelligence
in Communication Systems; www.congresbcu.com/intellcomm2005/
*SCOPE
*Context-aware networking enables new types of applications and services
in ambient environments. These applications can help users react
positively to unexpected events such as emergency situations, acquire
value-added services, receive messages in the most useful and suitable
manner, or obtain compensation when planned activities are changed or
delayed. Exploiting network-related context information can make mobile
communication networks simpler, more efficient, and more powerful. For
instance, mobility management can benefit from context information about
the current position and direction of a vehicle, which could be provided
by a navigation system connected to a vehicular area network, and
information about wireless access possibilities in the then-known
geographical area to improve its handover operations. Other examples are
delaying the transmission of an email over an expensive connection when
context information predicts the availability of a cheap hot-spot
connection to be reached in the near future. This view of context
management differs from the traditional focus on user preferences
regarding applications and services; it rather takes a network-centric
view: Protocols, not applications, adapt themselves based on context
information.
The aim of the workshop is to provide a unique opportunity for
researchers, software and application developers, and computer network
technologists to discuss new developments on the context aware mobile
and ambient networks technologies and applications.
*Relevant topics*
Papers describing original research, surveys and applications in the
following areas are solicited:
* Context aware platforms and architecture for Ambient Networks.
* Context in Grids systems and architectures.
* Context Ontologies for Grids.
* Context Identification, Retrieval and Management in Services and Networks
* Provisioning, Maintenance and Management of Quality of Context.
* Context Ontologies for Ambient Networks.

Call for Papers
IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, Special Issue on
Wireless Mesh Networking: Theories, Protocols, and Systems
http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/pcm/mesh_cfp.htm
SUBMISSSION DEADLINE: April 15, 2005.
==============================================================
Wireless mesh networking has become an indispensable technique for the next
generation wireless networks. It is critical to large-scale wireless networks
with no pre-existing infrastructure. It enables quick-and-easy extension of a
local area network into a wide area. Prior efforts on wireless networks,
especially multi-hop ad hoc networks, have led to
significant research contributions that range from fundamental results on
theoretical capacity bounds to various flavors of routing and transport
protocols. However, the work is far from enough. The state-of-art is
insufficient for deploying sizable wireless mesh networks. Important aspects
such as network radio range, network capacity, scalability,
manageability, and security remain open problems.
To address capacity and scaling concerns, researchers are experimenting with
systems that use multiple radios, frequency-agile radios, directional and
multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antennas. Further, there are renewed
interests in carrying out research on MAC protocols and cross-layer
design that breaks the traditional networking layering norm. It is
clear that such novel techniques are needed to increase system capacity, extend
network range, and increase scale, if such networks are to become viable.
Similarly, while there exist several security protocols for wireless networks,
especially for IEEE 802.11 WLANs, it is still not clear how one can build a
trustworthy network in a multi-hop ad hoc environment
like wireless mesh networks. Finally, although new research results are
published each year, progress on practical protocol implementation and system
integration has lagged considerably. To ensure wireless mesh networks to be
widely deployed, many research groups are starting to accumulate practical
experience through building testbeds and deploying
trial systems. In parallel to these efforts, several IEEE standard groups are
also actively pursuing wireless mesh networking techniques.
This special issue is devoted to the research and development of practical,
deployable, and low-cost wireless mesh networks. Papers from both industry and
academia will be solicited through an open call-for-papers. Topics of interests
include, but are not limited to,
-- Techniques for capacity and range extension
-- Multi-radio, multi-spectral systems
-- Cognitive and frequency-agile radios
-- Multichannel MACs, MAC protocol for directional antennas and MIMO systems
-- High-performance scalable single-channel MACs
-- Programmable MACs
-- Cross-layer design and optimization
-- Trustworthy networks, privacy and security models
-- Incentives, cooperation, and reputation systems
-- Mobility, power, and topology management
-- Network management with zero-configuration
-- Practical system architecture of wireless mesh networks
-- Testbed and deployment experience
-- Application and usage scenarios
-- Emerging standards: IEEE 802.11s, IEEE 802.15.5, IEEE 802.16 mesh,
IEEE 802.20 mesh

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Network Magazine
Special Issue on: Multimedia over Broadband Wireless Networks
http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/net/ntwrk/cfpnetwork2006.htm
**** Submission Deadline --- June 10, 2005 ****
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, the wireless Internet provides access primarily to Web-based
content and services. However, the emergence and adoption of broadband
wireless access standards, such as IEEE 802.16, 802.16a and 802.11a/g,
offers new possibilities for wireless delivery of rich multimedia
content and services, like video mail, video streaming, audio
conferencing, interactive games, conversational navigation services, and
future immersive communications in virtual environments. Advances in
technology are enabling a world of converged wireless and mobile
communications, where users access a variety of media formats using a
single device. Some of these novel networking protocols and technologies
include IEEE 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, UWB, Mobile IP and its variants, IP
paging, wireless IP QoS and SIP. Similarly, newer multimedia standards
such as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC provide significant improvements in
compression, and specifications such as 3GPP Version 6 provide the
ability to adapt the multimedia delivery for wireless networks with
varying transmission characteristics and mobile devices with different
capabilities.
The goal of this special issue is to present a concise reference of
state-of-the-art efforts in delivering multimedia over emerging
packet-based broadband wireless networks. Specifically, the special
issue is intended to present tutorials, survey and original research
articles (in a tutorial manner readable by non-specialists) on emerging
architectures, protocols and services for delivering multimedia over
single-hop or mesh broadband wireless networks. It also focuses on the
protocols needed to integrate the application layer requirements, such
as QoS, security, etc., with the base functionality offered by the
standardized 802.16/11 and other WLAN and WMAN interfaces. Of particular
interest is the inter-play between newer techniques of multimedia
encoding and streaming and the network-layer features to exploit these
techniques.
Following are the topics of interest for which we solicit contributions
for this special issue:
* IP-based multimedia delivery and services over WLANs and WMANs
* QoS for real-time voice and video in broadband wireless networks
* Media multicasting and broadcasting problems and solutions for
wireless links
* Caching and content management in WLANs, WMANs and 3G Networks
* VoIP over wireless networks
* Multimedia over single-hop and mesh-based wireless networks
* Multimedia delivery for broadband vehicular networks
* Multimedia services for ambient intelligent and pervasive environments
* Broadband multimedia prototypes and system experiences
* Broadcast and point-to-point multimedia in indoor & outdoor
environments, e.g. homes, convention centers, sports arenas

Call for Papers
Workshop
Sicherheit in
komplexen, vernetzten
Umgebungen
Im Zeitraum
19.-22. September 2005
Bonn, Deutschland
Workshop
im Rahmen der 35. Jahrestagung "Informatik LIVE!"
der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V.
www.gi-fg-sidar.de/skvu2005
tung beitragen.
Hintergrund
===========
hält in verschiedenen Bereichen Einzug.
zessen möglich geworden, sodass Informationen schnellstmöglich an allen
================
Hintergrundes - gebeten:
- Intrusion Detection / Response in integrierten Sicherheits-
architekturen (z.B. Software Embedded Sensors),
- Kooperierende Sicherheitssysteme für Koalitionsumgebungen,
- Intruder Tracing / Forensische Analyse in transparenten dynami-
schen Netzen,
- Intrusion Detection / Response / Tolerance in mobilen Ad-hoc-
Netzen,
- Sicherheit in Sensornetzen,
hende Sicherheitsysteme.
Einreichungen
