Call for Papers
8th IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Management of Multimedia
Networks & Services (MMNS2005)
Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain
October 24-26, 2005
http://www.mmns2005.org/
The International Conference on Management of Multimedia Networks and
Services (MMNS) will hold its eighth annual meeting on October 24
through October 26, 2005, in Barcelona, Spain. A single-track
conference, MMNS will provide participants with an intimate setting
for discussion and debate.
MMNS has established itself as a premier conference for research and
innovation in management of emerging multimedia technology and
networking services. The objective of the conference is to bring
together researchers and scientists from industry and academia
researching and developing state-of-the-art management systems, while
creating a public venue for results dissemination and intellectual
collaboration.
The demand for real-time services, integrated multimedia
communications and mobile application services thrives in today's
consumer and corporate market. The need to evolve management tools and
methodologies to keep pace with emerging networks is at a critical
juncture with the proliferation of mobility and wireless systems,
intelligent and broadband networks, data/voice convergence and the
integration of computing and communication in all devices. Concepts
such as autonomics, self-healing, self-organized and adaptive
computing systems are bringing both the academic and industry research
communities together to address the challenges of managing complexity
and systems problems, where management is inevitably key.
MMNS broadly solicits research in network and service management and
new models, architectures and designs in technology and services to
enable multimedia proliferation. This year, MMNS 2005 will continue
the success of the outstanding agendas of the past, but also emphasize
and solicit novel research in management of integrated multimedia
services.
The MMNS program committee is soliciting original papers describing
research in the area of management of multimedia networks and
services. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Multiservice over IP (voice, video and data over IP) network management
- Distributed multimedia service management
- Mobile multimedia network management
- DVB-H management
- Advanced audiovisual services management (e.g. videostreaming)
- Quality of service (QoS) management
- Internet QoS assurance
- Multi-point, multicast services management
- Deployment of multimedia services
- Network management models and architectures
- Management of sensor and actuator networks
- Billing and security for multimedia services
- Content distribution networking
- Grid networking for multimedia
- Network measurement/Monitoring for multimedia services
- Novel protocols for multimedia services

Paper Submission:
Paper submissions must present original, unpublished research or
experiences. Late-breaking advances and work-in-progress reports from
ongoing research are also encouraged to be submitted to MMNS
2005. Papers under review elsewhere MUST NOT be submitted to MMNS
2005. Authors are requested to identify submit either long papers or

Special issue on
Transport Protocols for the Next Generation Networks
http://www710.univ-lyon1.fr/~cpham/ADT-TCP/ADT-TCP.html
New networking technologies with optical-based transmission as a
foundation for achieving tremendous throughput in the order of tens of
Gbit/s are changing the face of the wired Internet with new large scale
high-performance infrastructures such as computational grids. In the
wireless domain, mobility and ubiquitous access to the Internet is
driving the emergence of new value-added applications and exhibiting new
user needs. Self-organizing wireless networks such as ad-hoc networks
may eventually become the natural way of connecting end-users to the
network. In this all-digital, all-connected world, transport protocols
have the very difficult task of providing reliable, fair and efficient
communications to millions of (groups of) users with very different
needs and profiles, across different underlying technologies.
High-speed networks, often referred to as long fat networks, raise the
problem of fair and efficient congestion control mechanisms. Wireless
environments with mobility and ad-hoc features bring new concerns. Fast
heterogeneous networks face all these difficulties. This special issue
is devoted to these problems. We solicit two categories of
contributions: (1) survey papers presenting state-of-the-art studies,
and (2) papers presenting an original and unpublished work or experiment
on, but not limited to, the following topics:
* TCP variants or new transport protocols for high-speed networks
* TCP optimisations and tuning
methodologies, results from real experiments
* New congestion control mechanisms for high-speed networks
* Transport protocols for heterogeneous networks
* Experiments and prototype implementations and lessons learnt
* Multipeer and multicast transport protocols
* Transport protocols in wireless/mobile/ad-hoc environments
* Transport protocols for (near) real-time traffic
* Performance modelling of TCP on high-speed or wireless networks
* Fairness issues in new transport protocols
* Transport protocols in all-optical networking
* Very high-speed transport protocols for computational grids

We invite you to submit a paper that should have a length of 25000-35000

A PDF version of your paper should be submitted electronically to one of
the guest editors (see below). Hard copies should be sent only if
electronic submission is absolutely not possible. All submitted papers
must not have been previously published and must not be submitted for
publication elsewhere while they are under consideration.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks
REALWSN'05
http://www.sics.se/realwsn05/
June 20-21, 2005
Stockholm, Sweden
Submission deadline: 9 April 2005, 1600 EST
The purpose of the Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks is
to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of
sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or deployments

When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new
issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of
different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network
structures; software development for large scale networks poses new
types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from
the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a
complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration.
Authors are invited to submit papers (5 pages, double column) or
poster abstracts (2 pages) for presentation at the workshop. Papers
will be selected based on originality, technical merit and relevance.
All topics pertaining to real-world wireless sensor networks are of
interest, including but not limited to:
* Experiences with real-world deployments
* Self-organization and self-management
* Debugging, testing, and management
* Deployment and configuration
* Applications in medicine, industry, science, environmental
monitoring, etc.
* Security and trust
* Scalability in practice
* Development and prototyping platforms
* Operating systems and programmability
* Sensor network programming paradigms and languages
* Middleware for heterogeneous networks

researchers and developers from the IT, internet and telecommunications
domains, as well as network operators, and service providers to discuss
the advances in mobility aware technologies and their applications in
the field of NGN. The workshop will focus on new concepts, protocols and
architectures as well as recent developments of mobility aware
middleware, service delivery platform technologies and related
applications within the fields of terminal, network and service
provisioning and management, service control for multimedia services,
policy-based service control and management, adaptable telecommunication
systems and applications, programmable networks and devices / autonomic
communications, ambient networks, intelligent appliances, smart end
