2nd Workshop on Cryptography for Ad hoc Networks
July 16th, 2006
location: S. Servolo Island, Venice, Italy
A Satellite Workshop of the 33rd International Colloquium on Automata,
Languages and Programming (ICALP 2006)
________________________________
CALL FOR PAPERS
Wireless ad hoc networks are today receiving a lot of attention for
militar, commercial and civilian applications, thus raising several
challenging security, privacy and anonimity research questions. The
security research community has mainly focused on securing routing and
is only recently widening its scope of analysis to other security
areas. The cryptography research community has mainly focused on
abstract models of networks like the Internet; however, cryptographic
protocols for the Internet face serious challenges to be adapted to
the ad-hoc, partial-connectivity, mobile, resource-constrained and
infrastructureless nature of ad-hoc networks. The aim of this workshop
is to help bridging this gap, towards a more comprehensive
investigation of security and cryptographic tools, analysis and
modeling methodologies over ad hoc networks, by bringing together the
cryptography, network security, and wireless networking communities.
We seek submissions containing original research on all aspects of
cryptology that are motivated by their applicability to ad hoc
networks, including wireless, cellular, sensor, mesh, peer-to-peer and
RFID-based networks. Short surveys of related sub-areas are also
encouraged. The following is a non-exhaustive list of topics that are
of interest to this workshop, when clearly motivated by and clearly
focusing on ad hoc networks (cryptology papers not focusing on or not
describing applications to ad hoc networks do not fit in the workshop
interest area):
- Modeling of cryptographic tasks
- Solutions to cryptographic tasks under party mobility
- Solutions to cryptographic tasks under resource constraints
- Secure routing
- Bootstrapping of security associations
- Distributed public-key infrastructures
- Key-agreement, key-management and key-(pre)distribution
- Entity authentication
- Trust establishment
- Privacy-enhancing technologies
- Threshold cryptography
- Identity-Based cryptography
- Policy-based cryptography
- Secure multi-party protocols
- Security in distributed algorithms and protocols

Subject: [Ine5619-0638] CFP - Latin American Autonomic Computing Symposium
(LAACS 2006)
=====================================================
LAACS 2006 CFP
First Latin American Autonomic Computing Symposium (LAACS 2006) Organized by
Unicamp, Puc-Campinas and SBC Support Sponsors: LARC, RNP and IEEE (approval
pending) Corporate Sponsors: IBM and Padtec
http://www.fee.unicamp.br/laacs2006
=====================================================
To deal with the increasing complexity of large-scale IT systems today,
computer elements must learn to manage themselves, in accordance with
high-level guidance and human supervision - a concept that has been
referred to as autonomic computing. Meeting the grand challenges of
autonomic computing requires scientific and technological advances in a
wide variety of fields.
The purpose of the 1st Latin American Autonomic Computing Symposium is
to bring together researchers and practitioners addressing aspects of
self-management and automation in computing systems. In doing so, we
hope to develop and nurture a community that can work together to
realize the vision of large-scale autonomic systems. Papers are
solicited on a broad array of topics of relevance to autonomic
computing; particularly those that bear on connections and relationships
among different areas of research or report on prototype systems or
experiences.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Autonomic computing systems, components or applications that exhibit
self-monitoring,
self-configuration, self-optimization, self-healing, and/or
self-protection behavior.
* Middleware technologies for autonomic systems, based on interoperable
Grid services,
Agent-based systems, Web services.
* Supporting technologies for autonomic computing, such as correlation
techniques, knowledge representation, ontologies, process automation,
systems & network management, service-level agreements & policies,
negotiation, behavior enforcement, monitoring, dependency analysis,
problem localization and remediation, workload management and
provisioning, optimization, security, communication protocols, etc.
* New paradigms supporting systems, components or applications for
autonomic computing, such as biological (or genetic, evolutionary),
economic, mathematical (or statistical), or social.
* Methodologies, frameworks, tools, models, languages, runtime and
interfaces for building
systems, components or applications for autonomic computing.
* Fundamental science of self-managing systems: understanding,
controlling, or exploiting
emergent behavior, theoretical investigations of coupled feedback loops,
predictive methods,
robustness, and related topics.
* Experiences with autonomic systems, components, tools or application
prototypes:
measurements, evaluations, or analyses of system behavior, user studies,
or experiences with
large-scale deployments of self-managing systems or applications.
PAPER SUBMISSIONS
Technical papers (maximum of 12 pages in length), Application papers
(maximum of 8 pages in length) and Posters (maximum of 4 pages in
length) written in ENGLISH are invited on a wide variety of topics
related to autonomic computing as indicated above. All submissions will
be reviewed and judged on merits including correctness, originality,
technical strength, quality of presentation, and relevance to the
conference themes. Submitted papers must include original work, and may
not be under consideration for another conference or a journal. They
should also not be under review or be submitted to another forum during
this event's review process. Posters are not subject to any of these
restrictions. Authors should submit all papers electronically (in PDF or
postscript format) via the event web site at
http://www.fee.unicamp.br/laacs2006/, and should follow the SBC format.
Templates can also be found in the event web site.
OTHER SUBMISSIONS
This event may also feature extraordinary sessions consisting of
demos/exhibits, tutorials and birds of a feather sessions. Interested
parties should contact the event organizers directly for submission -
for contact information please consult the event web site.

UbiComp 2006 - The Eigth International Conference on Ubiquituous Computing
http://www.ubicomp.org/ubicomp2006/
Conference Date: 17. - 21.09.2006
Conference Venue: Marriott Newport Beach, Orange County, California
Hosted by:
Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences
University of California, Irvine
Overview:
=========
Ubicomp is the premier international forum for research in ubiquitous
computing, bringing together designers, computer scientists, social
scientists, and artists, to discuss recent developments and future advance.
Orange County is located in coastal Southern California, south of Los Angeles
and north of San Diego. Typical September weather is sunny and dry with
temperatures around 25C.
We invite you to submit original, high-quality research contributions in all
program categories, including full papers, demonstrations, posters, videos,
and the doctoral colloquium.
Contributions on all topics related to ubiquitous computing are welcome,
including:
* tools and techniques for designing, implementing, & evaluating ubiquitous
computing systems
* mobile, wireless, and ad hoc networking infrastructures for ubiquitous computing
* laboratory and in situ studies of ubiquitous computing technologies in use
* location-aware and context-based systems for ubiquitous computing
* privacy, security, and trust in ubiquitous and pervasive systems.
The UbiComp conference has traditionally had a strong workshop program.
Workshops allow small groups to gather for intensive discussion around focused
topics of interest. The goal of workshops is to share understandings and
experiences, to foster research communities, to learn from each other and to
envision future directions.
NOTE: Ubicomp 2006 will have two days for workshops.
Call for Papers:
================
Ubicomp 2006 welcomes original, high-quality research contributions in the
area of ubiquitous, pervasive and handheld computing systems and their
applications. This conference seeks to present novel research results
impacting the design and usage of ubiquitous computing technology that
migrates beyond the desktop. Submissions should report original research that
contributes to our understanding of ubiquitous computing and help advance the
state of the art. Examples of appropriate areas of inquiry include:
Improving natural interaction (e.g. applied sensing, fusion and reasoning, AI
and speech technologies for Ubicomp, increasing machine understanding of human
action & vice versa)
Constructing ubicomp systems (e.g., systems and toolkit support for
constructing, maintaining and deploying and prototyping Ubicomp environments)
Embedding computation (e.g. novel user interfaces, computational and sensing/
actuator platforms, assistive technolgies, applied to Ubicomp)
Understanding ubicomp and its consequences (e.g. conceptual models, lessons
learnt, user studies and results from Ubicomp experiments)
Deploying ubicomp technologies (e.g. privacy, security, and trust, real-world
and deployment experiences, studies of ubicomp settings)
Ubicomp 2006 seeks papers that reflect the full breadth and scope of
ubiquitous computing research, including conceptual development, empirical
investigations, technological advances, application experiences, and more.
Authors should write for the broader Ubicomp audience, however, and make clear
how their work contributes to the whole.
Papers will be evaluated on the basis of originality, significance of the
contribution to the field, technical correctness and presentation. Papers
submitted must not have been previously published or be under simultaneous
review for any other conference, journal, workshop or other publication. We
solicit papers up to 18 pages but explicitly welcome shorter papers. All paper
submissions will be treated as full papers, but it is important that their
length is appropriate for their content. Papers should be formatted according
to the Springer Verlag LNCS format. Accepted papers will be included in the
conference proceedings published by Springer-Verlag as Lecture Notes in
Computer Science (LNCS). Authors are required to attend the conference to
present their work.
Paper submissions must be anonymized to facilitate blind review. Authors are
encouraged to take care throughout the entire document to minimize references
that may reveal the identity of the authors or
their institutions. Relevant references to an author's previous research
should not be suppressed but instead referenced in a neutral way.
All paper submissions will be handled electronically by the EDAS system. Note
that submission is a two-stage process - authors need to register their paper
first and then submit the final manuscript. Submissions must be in Adobe PDF
format and conform to the guidelines specified in the call for papers. Authors
without EDAS user names will be required to register with the system using the
same link as
above.
Reviewers will be instructed to maintain the confidentiality of all materials
for submitted papers throughout the entire reviewing process. Submissions
should contain no information that will be proprietary or confidential at the
time of publication.
