Call for Papers and Announcement
SPIE/ACM MMCN 2007
Multimedia Computing and Networking 2007
http://www.ifi.uio.no/mmcn2007
In cooperation with: ACM SIG Multimedia
Part of the IS&T/SPIE International Symposium on Electronic Imaging
28 January - 1 February 2007
San Jose Marriott and San Jose Convention Center
San Jose, CA, USA
=====================================================================
The objective of this conference is to bring together researchers and
practitioners contributing to all facets of multimedia computing and
networking. We especially encourage full and original papers on
emerging technologies such as home networking and digital appliances,
mixed and augmented reality systems, multimedia and QoS support for
WLANs and 3G networks, multimedia in P2P networks, grids, and sensor
networks, power-aware computing and communications, mobile and fixed
wireless multimedia networks and content distribution networks. The
conference will feature industrial design experiences and showcase
tools for next-generation multimedia systems and applications.
Presenters will be encouraged to make multimedia presentations and
demonstrate their solutions in person. All presentations are plenum

CALL FOR PAPERS
CIC2006
The 2006 International Conference on
Cooperative Internet Computing (CIC2006)
October 25-27, 2006, Hong Kong, China
http://www.comp.polyu.edu.hk/cic2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction
=============
Cooperative computing aims at enabling different parties to work
together towards a pre-defined non-trivial goal. It involves important
technological areas like computer supported cooperative work (CSCW),
workflow, computer-assisted design, databases, distributed systems, and
concurrent programming. In the past few years, the prosperity of
cooperative computing has been accelerated by the ubiquity of the
Internet and the advent of wireless technologies, giving rise to the new
research discipline of Cooperative Internet Computing (CIC). Now,
cooperating parties can work on the Internet at any time and place. At
the same time, we have also witnessed an enormous leap in communication
speed. This has opened up a wide range of new cooperative applications
that were not feasible in the past.
Publication
===========
The CIC2006 conference has partnered with World Scientific Publisher to
publish the conference proceedings as book chapters in a book entitled
"Cooperative Internet Computing". The book is scheduled to be published
after the conference. Best papers will be selected for publication in
the International Journal on High Performance Computing (pending).
Scope and Interests
====================
The Conference invites papers on all aspects of Cooperative Internet
Computing, and their applications. The topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:
* Cooperative Information System Architectures
* Human-Computer Interaction for Cooperation
* Agents and Brokers for Cooperative Computing
* Middleware for Collaboration
* Workflow Systems
* Distributed Multimedia Systems
* Collaborative Internet Learning
* Pedagogical Theories for Collaborative Internet Learning
* Mobile Cooperative Systems
* Evaluation Methodologies for CIC systems
* Interaction Models and Protocols for CIC Systems
* Internet Communication Infrastructure for Collaboration

Overview & Scope
****************
The oceans cover 71% of the earth's surface and represent
one of the least explored frontiers, yet the oceans are
integral to climate regulation, nutrient production, oil
retrieval and transportation. As such, there is significant
interest in monitoring aquatic environments for scientific,
environmental, commercial, safety, and military reasons.
While there is a need for highly precise, real-time, fine
grained spatio-temporal sampling of the ocean environment,
current methods such as remote telemetry and sequential
local sensing cannot satisfy current needs, let alone
future needs. The notion of an underwater network is
relatively new due to the lack of maturity of underwater
acoustic communication. However, networks are necessary
in order to achieve the monitoring goals noted above. The
physical challenges of acoustic underwater communication
require us to completely re-think how a network should be
designed and deployed in this environment. Challenges to
be overcome by underwater acoustic modem and network
designers include: severely limited range-dependent bandwidth
and attenuation, extensive time-varying multipath propagation,
and low speed of sound propagation in water resulting in long
propagation delays. Moreover, a unique feature of underwater
networks is that the environment is constantly mobile, naturally
causing the node passive mobility. All the above distinct
features of underwater networks yield new challenges for every
level of the network protocol suite.
The goal of the proposed workshop is to bring together
researchers and practioners in areas relevant to underwater
networks. Thus, many layers of the "stack" from the physical
layer to the application layer will be represented. The objective
is to serve as a forum for presenting state of the art research,
exchanging ideas and experiences, and facilitating interaction
and collaboration.
The workshop will span one day, including presentations of technical
papers, tutorial/survey papers, a panel session and a poster/demo
session. Submissions for regular technical papers and poster/demo
extended abstracts should describe original research, not published
or currently under review for other workshops, conferences, or
journals.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Network architecture design
- Efficient acoustic communications
- Cooperative underwater communications
- Medium access control
- Routing and forwarding
- Reliable data transfer
- Security and robustness
- Power management
- Data storage and management
- Localization and synchronization
- Data fusion, dissemination, tracking
- Network modeling and simulations
- Capacity analysis
- New techniques for aquatic applications
- New applications for underwater networks
Submission Guidelines
*********************
All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Papers must
be in PDF format, no longer than 8 pages for regular papers (10
pages for tutorial/survey papers and 4 pages for poster/demo papers),
and must follow ACM single-space, double-column format, 10 pt.
Submitted papers will be judged based on their quality and novelty
through a rigorous review process. Over-length papers will be
automatically rejected. Detailed instructions for paper submission
are posted on the workshop website.

The aim of CHINACOM is to bring together Chinese and International players
in networking and communications under one roof, building a showcase in
communications and networking research in China.
China's information technology industry and research have been developing at
an enormous pace in the last 20 years. Currently China has the largest
wireless mobile and the second largest Internet subscriber population in the
world. By the end of 2005, the mobile phone users have reached 388 million
(19% of the world market), and the number will be over 500 million by 2008
and over 150 million will be multimedia applications. Internet users have
exceeded 100 million (half of them are broadband service subscribers). The
total sale of optical cables & fibers reached 15 million kilometers in 2004,
with the sale of the whole optical communication facility market reaching
1.5 billion USD. Furthermore, business/market factors in this area in China
are unique since they are Government driven and mixed with culture,
technology, and market forces.
CHINACOM is being positioned as the premier international annual conference
for the presentation of original and fundamental research advances in the
field of Communications, Networks, and Internet Applications. The conference
will consist of Technical Symposia, and Workshops. The Technical Symposia
will describe significant research in all areas defined below; while the
Workshops will focus on development, applications and related business
issues.

previously published and are not currently under review for publication
elsewhere. Topics include, but are not limited to:
