CALL FOR PAPERS
DIWANS 2006
2nd Workshop on Dependability Issues
in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks and Sensor Networks
URL: http://www.iit.cnr.it/~diwans06/
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
In participation with
IEEE Technical Committee on Fault-Tolerant Computing
To be held in conjunction with MobiCom 2006
(12th ACM International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking)
September 25, 2006
Los Angeles, California USA
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submission Deadline: June 23, 2006
------------------------------------------------------------------------
MOTIVATION AND THEME
Widespread proliferation of wireless RF technology has brought the
possibility of infrastructureless networking to the forefront.
Infrastructureless networks include both wireless ad hoc
networks and sensor networks as important classes. Dependability
issues such as reliability, availability, quality of service and
security are made more challenging by the wireless and
infrastructureless environment. Reliability and availability
challenges include the varying characteristics of a wireless channel,
which is subject to interference, fading, and multipath effects.
General quality of service mechanisms become even more important due
to bandwidth and other resource limitations. Challanges such as
dealing with partitioned operation have led to new research areas
such as delay-tolerant networking. The presence of mobile nodes in
many of these settings complicates further the dependability issues.
Clearly, these dependability challenges must be met before the full
promise of ad hoc and sensor networks can be realized.

Betreff: [Tccc] cfp: Contaxt-Aware Mobile Systems (CAMS) workshop
Datum: Thu, 15 Jun 2006 20:06:01 +0200
Von: annika hinze <hinze(a)cs.waikato.ac.nz>
An: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
Please note that the deadline for abstract submissions to CAMS
has been extended to the 30 June 2006 (as have the deadlines for all OTM
workshops).
The new paper deadline is July 10.
Second International Workshop on
Context-Aware Mobile Systems (CAMS'06)
.......................................
Montpellier, France, Oct 29 - Nov 3, 2006
http://www.cs.rmit.edu.au/fedconf/cams2006cfp.html
In conjunction with OnTheMove Federated Conferences (OTM'06)
http://www.cs.rmit.edu.au/fedconf
Proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag
GOAL
Following from 2005's very successful workshop, the purpose of the CAMS
06 workshop on Context Aware Mobile Systems is again to bring together
researchers from diverse communities who are interested in the design of
mobile systems that are sensitive to their environment, users and task.
We seek contributions from researchers of all backgrounds, in particular
mobile systems, context- and location-aware systems, data modelling,
middleware and distributed systems, and computer supported cooperative
work (CSCW).
WORKSHOP THEME
Mobile systems can be deployed in a wide range of physical environments
to support users in diverse tasks. Advanced mobile systems need to
exploit information about the environment in which they are working.
This .context awareness. is much more than location awareness alone, or
merely the immediate situation. The workshop is focussed on systems that
address more sophisticated models of context that use many different
aspects. A key aspect of context-aware mobile systems is using models
and techniques to adapt the system.s behaviour so that it behaves in a
manner that is relevant and pertinent to the current context.
The workshop focuses on service design and implementation issues for
mobile context-aware systems. Approaches range from modelling of the
context, through processing of context, to the architecture through
which a context-based system can be implemented. For context sensitive
applications to be delivered in the real world, the critical middle
layer of the mobile systems needs to be much better understood. In
addition, fundamental interaction design, content strategies such as
content caching and collaborative mechanisms provide other important
areas of research.
WORKSHOP AIMS
The field of context-aware mobile systems is a new and emerging research
topic. We aim to bring together researchers from a wide variety of
backgrounds who focus on the design and implantations of CAMS. The
workshop will provide a forum that initiates and facilitates
communication between different research communities. CAMS will aim to
clarify the differing constraints and required functionality in
representative applications and identify mutually agreed research
questions within the area. Together, participants will explore methods
for the evaluation and comparison of context-aware mobile systems.
Overall, we seek to cross-fertilise the ideas and innovations of
currently unconnected groups.
Topics of Interest
Topics welcome at the workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Data models of context
* Data management for mobile context-aware services (e.g. caching,
peer-to-peer, indexation, compression)
* Process models for context-aware systems (e.g. event-based,
communication, selection)
* Architecture for mobile context-aware applications
* Research questions unique to the mobile context-aware area
* User context models and processing
* Adaptivity
* User interfaces for mobile context-aware systems (e.g. for
context representation and manipulation by the user)
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality,
significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. All
submissions must be in English. Submissions should be in PDF format and
must not exceed 10 pages in the final camera-ready format for regular
papers and 4 pages for position papers. Authors instructions can be
found at: http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html
The paper submission site is located at:
http://www.cs.rmit.edu.au/fedconf/cams/2006/papers
Accepted workshop contributions will be published by Springer-Verlag as
LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) as a part of the workshop
proceedings of the 2006 International On The Move Federated Conferences
(OTM). Registering to the OTM conference and CAMS workshop is a
prerequisite for the paper to be published.

EuroSys 2007
2nd European Conference on Computer Systems
Lisbon, Portugal
March 21-23, 2007
http://www.eurosys.org/2007
Organized by EuroSys, the European Chapter of SIGOPS, in cooperation with
ACM SIGOPS (pending)
CALL FOR PAPERS
EuroSys 2007, the European Conference on Computer Systems, seeks papers
on all
aspects of computer systems, especially ones that cross the divide between
areas and address:
+ All areas of operating systems and distributed systems
+ Systems aspects of:
- Programming language support - Databases
- Parallel and concurrent computing - Distributed algorithms
- Mobile and pervasive computing - Middleware
- Sensor nets and tiny devices - Clusters and grids
- Novel uses of information technology - Novel user interfaces
- Dependable computing - Storage
- Management, measurement, monitoring - Security
- Real-time and embedded computing - Continuous media
+ Experience with existing systems
+ Reproduction of previous results
+ Negative results
+ Early ideas
EuroSys 2007 welcomes submissions and attendance from all over the world.
Papers may report on: (1) The design, implementation, evaluation and
deployment of such systems. (2) New ideas: a session is reserved for "idea"
papers, held to less stringent standards of system evaluation. (3)
Experience
with earlier concepts: a session is reserved for experience papers, for
which
depth of evaluation is paramount, and novelty less important. Authors may
designate their paper for one of these sessions, but need not to.
To encourage diversity, any single author may submit at most two papers.
Papers authored by program committee members are held to a significantly
higher standard, and their number in the final programme severely
restricted.
Reviewing is not double blind; feel free to include your affiliation and all
references in full.
Papers are reviewed by the programme committee, with the help of outside
referees. Papers will be accepted primarily for their impact on the Systems
community, and for bridging gaps between different communities. Novelty,
clarity of explanation and thorough evaluation are additional criteria.
Acceptance may be provisional, subject to further shepherding by a member of
the program committee before final acceptance.
The conference does not have a predefined format or a target number of
accepted papers. Papers will be accepted or rejected based on their merits,
and the conference will be organized in a format that accommodates the
number
of papers that meet that criterion.
SUBMISSION
Papers should not exceed 14 pages double column including figures and tables
in standard ACM format, but preferably using 10pt or larger font on 12pt
spacing. Papers that exceed this length will be rejected without
consideration
of their merit. For detailed submission instructions, please refer to the
submission web site.
Simultaneous submission of the same work to multiple venues, submission of
previously published work, and plagiarism constitute dishonesty and fraud.
Authors uncertain whether their submission meets ACM guidelines should
contact
the program chair at eurosys2007_pc(a)eurosys.org.

CALL FOR PAPERS
IM 2007
10th IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on
Integrated Management
"Moving from Bits to Business Value"
21-25 May 2007
Munich, Germany
http://www.im2007.org
Important Dates
---------------
Abstract Registration: August 24, 2006 midnight (GMT)
Submission: September 1, 2006 midnight (GMT) -- No extensions will be
granted
Notification of Acceptance: December 1, 2006
Camera ready Copy: February 15, 2007
The Tenth IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated
Management (IM 2007) will be held 21-25 May 2007 in Munich,
Germany. IM 2007 will present the latest technical advances
in the area of management, operations and control of
networks, networking services, networked applications, and
distributed systems. Held in odd-numbered years since 1989
and taking turns with its sibling conference NOMS, IM 2007
will build on the successes of its predecessors and serve
as the primary forum for exchange among the research,
standards, vendor and user communities in the field of
integrated management. The symposium is sponsored by the
International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP)
Working Group 6.6 on Management of Networks and Distributed
Systems, and by the IEEE Communications Society Technical
Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
Integrated management of networked systems is facing new
challenges, stemming from a combination of rapidly evolving
technologies and an increased scrutiny from corporate
customers. At the same time, as IT and network services
become more and more ubiquitous, their reliability and
performance become more critical for all kinds of
enterprises. The resulting demands for improving and
verifying service quality must be met in an environment of
increasingly distributed and decentralized service
provisioning, accelerated service lifecycles, and
unprecedented security challenges. Today's IT management
issues involve many diverse problems in controlling
heterogeneous IT infrastructures, often across
organizational boundaries. However, new and difficult
challenges are emerging while aligning technical and
organizational IT management to business requirements, thus
calling for integrating management tools and measures
"from bits to business value".
IM 2007 will be organized into technical and application
sessions, panels, and tutorials. In addition, it will
feature an industrial experience track to share practical
lessons learned by the user and vendor communities, posters,
birds-of-a-feather sessions, and vendor exhibits. In the
tradition of previous events, we strive to make the IM 2007
Symposium the highest quality professional event of the
year. Paper submissions will undergo a stringent review
process implemented by the Technical Program Committee,
which includes the most respected experts in the field. We
encourage papers that break new ground or present
insightful results based on experience with integrated
management of networks, systems, applications and services.
Submission Instructions
-----------------------
Authors are invited to submit original contributions in PDF
format through the IM 2007 web site. Papers must be written
in English. Only original papers that have not been
published or submitted for publication elsewhere can be
submitted. Self-plagiarized papers and multiple submissions
will be rejected without further review. Full papers are
required for review.
If accepted, the maximum length of each paper will be 10
printed pages including figures in IEEE 2-column style.
For samples and templates, please visit the IM 2007 web site.

CALL FOR PAPERS - LOCAN 2006
2nd International Workshop on Localized Communication
and Topology Protocols for Ad hoc Networks
in conjunction with MASS-2006 (www.ieee-mass.org)
Vancouver, Canada, October 9 - 12, 2006
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBJECT AND SCOPE
-----------------
This workshop covers comprehensively the algorithmic issues in the hot
area of ad hoc and sensor networking. The design of data communication
techniques in multi-hop ad hoc networks has challenges at all layers
of communication. This workshop concentrates on the network layer
problems like data communication (routing, QoS-routing, geocasting,
multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and topology control (neighbor
discovery, power adjustment, neighbor elimination, etc.).
Additionally, sensor networks are currently recognized as one of the
priority research areas by NSF. The area of sensor networking is
gaining momentum within the research community. This workshop will
address ongoing research on this field, including problems such as:
physical properties, sensor training, security through intelligent
node cooperation, medium access, sensor area coverage with random and
deterministic placement, object location, sensor position
determination, energy efficient broadcasting and activity scheduling,
routing, connectivity, data dissemination and gathering, sensor
centric quality of routing, temporal message ordering, path exposure,
tree reconfiguration, topology construction, and transport layer.
The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or greedy) schemes as
opposed to existing protocols requiring global information. Localized
algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple local node
behaviour achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols
provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks
with an arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this
plan. Sensor and rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or
thousands of nodes.
The main objective of the workshop is to present state of the art
research results on data communication and topology control in rapidly
growing area of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on
localized techniques.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Medium access control
* Analytical, mobility and validation models for ad hoc networks
* Hybrid networks and wireless Internet
* Security in ad hoc networks
* Data management issues, query processing, and data delivery
* Routing, broadcasting and multicasting in ad hoc networks
* Energy-efficient protocols for ad hoc networks
* Quality of service in medium access control and routing
* Topology construction and maintenance in ad hoc networks
* Neighborhood discovery and mobility management

Conference Information
======================
The eighth Passive and Active Measurement conference will be held April
5-6th, 2007 in Louvain-la-neuve in Belgium. This event focuses on
research and practical applications of network measurement and analysis
techniques. The conference's goal is to provide a forum for current work
in its early stages. Original papers are invited from the research and
operations communities on topics including, but not limited to:
* Active Network Measurements
* Passive Network Measurements
* Performance Metrics
* Traffic Statistics
* Measurement Visualization
* New Measurement Approaches & Techniques
* Deployment of Measurement Infrastructure
* New Measurement Initiatives
* Applications of Network Measurements
* Network Measurements and Security
* Network Troubleshooting using Measurements
The PAM steering committee believes that releasing measurement data
allows for better science to be conducted in the field of network
measurement. Therefore, an award will be given at PAM 2007 for the best
paper based on a new dataset that the authors are releasing for
community use in subsequent research. To qualify, a paper must
significantly utilize a dataset that has been collected for the work
presented in the paper. Further, the dataset must be freely available to
any researcher. Authors should flag papers they wish to be considered
for this award with a footnote on the first page of the paper. Novel
datasets are especially encouraged. The awarded paper will be chosen
from the set of qualifying papers accepted for the conference by a
committee made up of a subset of the program and steering committees.

Submission Information
======================
To ensure PAM 2007 is fresh and interesting, we are soliciting short
papers. Authors are asked for full papers and not extended abstracts. No
additional space will be given once a paper has been accepted. Papers
must be submitted in the Springer LNCS format and must not exceed 10
pages. Formatting guidelines will be available soon.
Authors are, as always, asked to refrain from submitting papers
submitted to PAM to other venues during the reviewing period.

Workshop Wikis im eLearning
http://web.uni-frankfurt.de/dz/neue_medien/wikiworkshop/index.html
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

To create the basis for automated processing of the media in Augmented
and Ambient Learning as stated above, diverse aspects should be studied
(separate mentioned types of media are just possible application
examples):
* Empirical aspects
* Theoretic and modeling aspects
* Processing aspects
