Computer Communications Special Issue on
End-to-end Support over Heterogeneous Wired-Wireless Networks
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In recent years, many networking technologies have emerged and have been
deployed to enable ubiquitous Internet access anywhere, anytime, using a
wide range of devices. In particular, we have witnessed the rapid
proliferation of different types of wireless communication networks
including Cellular, Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), Bluetooth,
WiMax, etc which are widely being used as extensions to the wired Internet
infrastructure. In addition to the convergence of heterogeneous
wired-wireless networks, the issue of mobility of end-users has also
become a central issue of the evolving heterogeneous mobile Internet.
There are still many research challenges that need to be addressed to
enable seamless, transparent, wireless access to Internet services for
mobile end-users. This special issue will provide insights into some of
the latest research network design approaches, techniques, and
technologies that can provide architectural, protocol, connectivity,
mobility, Quality of Service (QoS) support on an end-to-end basis over the
underlying IP-based wired-wireless Internet infrastructure for emerging
mobile wireless Internet applications with diverse requirements. We expect
this Special issue to provide innovative, flexible, and scalable solutions
that can be widely deployed and adopted by end-users.
We are particularly interested in research contributions that cover
experimental activities involving the design, implementation, and
performance evaluation of novel prototype architectures, protocols, and
services related to end-to-end support over heterogeneous (i.e.,
wired-wireless) networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
QoS support over heterogeneous networks
QoS routing and signaling
Middleware platforms and technologies
Transport protocols
Congestion control
Admission control
Cross-layer design issues in wired/wireless networks
Handoff management
Mobility management
IP mobility
System support infrastructures and services
Service deployment and adaptation
Multimedia Communications
Multimedia services and protocols
Seamless internetworking designs and architectures
Resource management
Security issues, architectures, and protocols
Position and tracking technologies
Location services
Power management for communications
Pricing, charging, accounting issues

CFP, Special issue on Wireless Mesh Networks
----------- Call for Papers ------------
Elsevier Journal on Parallel and Distributed Computing
Special issue: Behavior, Artefacts, and Solutions in Wireless Mesh
Networks
*************************************************************************
Wireless mesh networks emerged as an alternative to provide cheap wireless
network coverage and access. Mesh
networks share many properties with ad hoc networks, but they also differ
in many ways. Fundamentally, however, the
technology builds on multi-hop wireless routing of data from access nodes
to gateways to fixed network infrastructure.
Even though these networks have emerged quite recently, there are already
many deployments in different parts of the
world, creating a situation where commercialization has taken place while
the technology is relatively immature.
Because of the promising commercial potential of such networks, it is
important to understand the limitations and
artefacts that are specific to these networks and how they affect
applications utilising them for successful deployment
of robust and well-behaving systems. It is also important to find
mechanisms and solutions that address these specifics
early on in the deployment to minimise the impact they may have in the
long run.
This special issue of the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing is
seeking high-quality original unpublished
research articles that describe recent advances in the understanding of
mesh network behaviour, finding of such
artefacts, and solutions to address them.
**************************************************************************
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Mesh Network:
* Traffic modeling
* Routing, scheduling, and queuing
* Network formation and planning
* Mobility aspects and their impact on network performance
* Security issues
* Application behavior and QoS management
* Multi-channel and multi-radio systems, channel assignment

Selbstorganisierende, Adaptive, Kontextsensitive verteilte Systeme
1. März 2007, Bern / Schweiz
im Rahmen der GI/ITG-Tagung "Kommunikation in Verteilten Systemen"
http://www.self-org.info/SAKS/
Motivation
* Selbstorganisation, Selbstkonfiguration und andere Selbst-Eigenschaften
* Autonomic Computing und Communications
* Emergence Engineering -- ein Widerspruch in sich?
* Softwarearchitekturen für autonome Systeme
* Adaptivität in Anwendungen und Middleware
* Selbstorganisation in Service-orientierten Architekturen (SOA)
* Selbstorganisation in Robotersystemen
* Vertrauen und Verlässlichkeit bei selbstorganisierenden Systemen
* Kontextmodelle und Kontextverarbeitung
* Methoden zur Konstruktion und Evaluation von Selbst-Eigenschaften
* Entwicklungsmethoden für personalisierte kontextsensitive Dienste
* Anwendungen: Berichte über Forschungsprototypen
* Industrielle Anforderungen und Projekte
publiziert. Detaillierte Formatierungsangaben sind unter
http://www.springer.com/series/2872 zu finden.
Sie erreichen den SAKS-Workshop im EDAS unter

in Mobile, Ad Hoc, and Wireless Networks
http://www.wiopt.org
April 16-20, 2007, Limassol, Cyprus
Scope of the Symposium
===================================
The design of wireless networks offers challenges not present in
fixed networks: both the offered traffic and the network
capacity depend on the mobility of the nodes. The designs should
not only be functioning correctly, they are also expected to
optimize the performance with respect to many criteria, such as
energy efficiency, quality of service, and capacity utilization.
This symposium intends to bring together researchers and
practitioners working on optimization of wireless network design
and operations. It welcomes different perspectives, including
performance analysis, protocol design, wireless communication,
and optimization theory.
Contributions to this conference should improve the
state-of-the-art in design, analysis, dimensioning and
operations of wireless network by providing insights into
theoretical aspects as well as providing
practical methods and tools. All forms of wireless networks are
of
interest: from cellular wide-area and local-area networks to
dense and sparse ad-hoc networks; domain specific vehicular,
public-transport and personal-area networks as well as
application-specific sensor networks.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
** Modeling of mobility and its influence on systems
performance
** Approaches to dynamic spectrum allocation
** Interference control for unlicensed spectral bands
** Effective techniques for simulation of large wireless
networks

IEEE Network Special Issue on
"Advances in Network Systems Architecture"
==========================================
http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/net/ntwrk/CFP_IEEE_Network_ANSA_b.pdf
http://netsys.ece.upatras.gr/ieeeANSA/
The architecture of network systems has been evolving as a specialized
technical field for more than a decade. Special-purpose, sophisticated
architectures of network systems and subsystems are necessary for the
development and deployment of emerging and future networks and network
services, because they constitute the only option for network
equipment (residing at the network core or at its edge) that implement
standardized network protocols in performance demanding environments.
In this special issue, we focus on this increasingly important technical
field.
The last two decades have been characterized by significant advances in
networking, leading to the development of a wide range of high-speed
networks both in the wide and local area. The advances in cable, local
loop, wireless and mobile networking in addition to the prevalence of
Internet-based technologies that serve as the unifying networking
substrate have enabled the development and deployment of network
services (from digital libraries and on-line shopping to multi-player,
real-time games) to an ever increasing populace. Furthermore, and in
addition to supporting many of the same networking services, end-user
network-enabled devices will be supporting pervasive and ubiquitous
computing services and applications that will be facilitated by the
widespread presence of networked embedded systems.
The increasing requirements on packet networking have led to the
development and deployment of complex network systems, i.e., systems
that execute one or more network protocol stacks, such as switches,
adapters, routers, etc. Effectively, these systems have evolved to
specialized, complex computer systems composed of (possibly several)
sophisticated high-speed processors, running operating systems that
manage a large number of network (I/O) interfaces and executing several
(possibly non-identical) protocol stacks. Additionally, all types of
network-attached systems (from core network systems to personal devices)
require advanced architectures for their network subsystems as well as
for their integration with their computing and service components; for
example, high-performance computing systems require high performance
network attachments, while evolving consumer network devices --such as
mobile computing systems, PDA’s and even mobile phones, which combine
processors, memory, operating systems, browsers, office applications,
etc.-- require reliable, secure, low power network subsystems with
quality-of-service support, in order to satisfy the requirements of
the various business- and residential-/entertainment-oriented
applications they execute.
The operational demands of all these network systems and subsystems
place significant requirements on performance as well as on other
system parameters, such as security, power consumption, etc., leading
to the development of innovative architectures and components.
Characteristic examples of the recent developments in this area are
innovative high-speed adapters with specialized memory managers,
multiprocessor based network adapters, network processors, specialized
content addressable memories, virtual output queuing switches, QoS
schedulers, security subsystems, network on chip solutions, etc.
Author guidelines:
------------------
To expose and promote further this technical area to the broad
networking community, it is our goal to publish original research and
survey articles presenting the latest advances in network system and
subsystem architectures. Contributions are solicited within the
aforementioned scope of this special issue with emphasis on (excluding
topics related to systems and protocols below the MAC protocol sub-layer):
* Architectures for routers, bridges, switches, etc.
* Architectural support for virtual networks (meta-nets): systems and
subsystems
* Network, protocol and service processors (architecture,
programming, etc.)
* Multiprocessor architectures for network/protocol processing
* Network (sub)systems (e.g., memory managers, IP table look-up, packet
