The Internet is revolutionizing the way we extract, process, use, and disseminate information. Internet also redefines many aspects of our life such as communication, commerce, education, and entertainment. Parallel to the growth of the Internet, sophisticated techniques are emerging to bring intelligence to the Internet and its protocols. Many technologies and techniques offer the use of intelligence in Internet-based recommendation systems, interactive IP-based multimedia systems, Internet/Web agents, softbots and other Internet-based systems. Although individual methods and programming techniques are constantly being deployed, advanced issues and concepts still need to be developed and studied in the context of applied Internet Intelligence. In this context, researchers need to explore and study the plethora of challenges that emergent intelligent technologies and programming techniques bring to the Internet. This special issue aims to increase the awareness of researchers in the area of Intelligent Internet-based systems, and will provide an in-depth investigation on various research and deployment issues, regarding the impact of intelligent methods and programming techniques on Internet-based Systems. In addition, this special issue will examine the performance characteristics of various approaches in Internet-based systems, and will also focus on the development of intelligent programming techniques among different IP-based domains. CALL FOR PAPERS ---------------------- 13th IEEE International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD'08) The International Workshop on Computer-Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD) provides a forum for discussion of recent developments on analytical and simulation tools and techniques for the performance evaluation of communications systems. It was launched in 1986, being held every 2 years until 2006, often in cooperation with flagship IEEE Communication Society conferences (Int. Conference on Communications - ICC, Global Telecommunication Conference - GLOBECOM). Since 2006, the workshop has been held once every year motivated by the ever increasing interest in this hot research and development field with last venues organized in Trento (CAMAD'06) as a stand-alone event, and in conjunction with IEEE PIMRC 2007 in Athens, Greece (CAMAD'07). CAMAD 2008 will be held in conjunction with ICC 2008 in Beijing, China, right before the 2008 Summer Olympic Game. Wireless Sensors Networks constitute a significant current technology, attracting considerable research interest from various disciplines. Indeed, the wireless sensor technology is employed in emerging areas with high potential for scientific research, being used for biomedical, environmental or industrial applications. These applications generally require intelligent dense environment monitoring which generates important data volumes. Data collection and analysis need to deal with cooperation and coordination topics in order to prolong network lifetime and to provide useful, synthesized information for automation, decision making and support. Topology control, by means of clusters or groups, is another applied technique to overcome these challenging problems. The 1st International Workshop on Distributed Collaborative Sensors Networks will focus on the research of developing collaboration infrastructures and solutions in the context of wireless sensors networks, aiming to bring together researchers and practitioners in these fields. In addition, the workshop will highlight recent innovative research results which will strengthen the formal foundation of this emerging area. CALL FOR PAPERS 1st International OMNeT++ Workshop <www.omnet-workshop.org> held in conjunction with SIMUTools 2008 <http://www.simutools.org> Marseille, France, March 3, 2008 Sponsored by: ICST, ACM SIGSIM, IEEE France, INRIA, SCS OMNeT++ is a public-source, component-based, modular and open-architecture simulation environment with strong GUI support and an embeddable simulation kernel. Its primary application area is the simulation of communication networks. Because of its generic and flexible architecture it has been successfully used in other areas like the simulation of IT systems, queuing networks, hardware architectures, and business processes. OMNeT++ is rapidly becoming a popular simulation platform in the scientific community as well as in industrial settings. Several open source simulation models have been published, in the field of Internet simulations (IP, IPv6, MPLS, etc), mobility and ad-hoc simulations and other areas. However, such a growing community faces also growing challenges and problems: Integration of different simulation tools, porting of simulation models between different platforms, testing and comparison of applications. Different initiatives were started in the last years for unifying and integrating the already existing simulation models, which involves however also organization and coordination among the different user groups. An important task is making the existing tools and applications easily available. The goal of this workshop is to bring together OMNeT++ users and their tools, applications and ideas. It intends to provide a forum for presentations of recent developments and novel ideas in the broad context of network simulation with focus on OMNeT++. It will bring together researchers to focus on the important topics of integrating simulation models, coupling different simulation tools, providing better modeling approaches, and contributing to the active modeling and simulation community with respect to identifying some of the most promising candidate solution methods, architectures and techniques to address the various challenges of network simulation. The benefits are two-fold: On the one hand OMNeT++ users get into direct discussion and on the other hand they can meet with developers. Furthermore, the developers can pick up ideas for the future development. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Parallel simulation * Simulation control * Result interpretation and analysis * Debugging * Simulation in the loop * Modeling techniques * Coupling with other simulation/emulation tools * Integration of hardware-specific code * Cross-layer protocol design methodologies * Mobility models * Simulation of wireless networks * Industrial applications * Use of OMNeT++ in other domains Submission Instructions: Authors are invited to submit full papers of up to 8 pages, or short papers of up to 3 pages, in ACM conference proceedings format. Mobile communication has experienced an explosive growth since close to quarter of a century. In particular, the mobile ad hoc network technology has attracted significant attention in the last decade or so due its challenging research problems, and span off such new research areas as mesh-based mobile networks and sensor networks. What characterizes nearly all of those mobile technologies is that during the exchange of information between the source and destination terminals, there exists a set of links which constitutes an end-to-end path over which the information is communicated. In some application scenarios, however, the connectivity between the mobile stations is poor due to very sparse network conditions (low node density) or due to unstable connectivity conditions (interference, fading, etc), and thus it is difficult to form a well-connected mesh network for transmitting data through end-to-end connections. In fact, even if there temporarily exists a path in the network for some portion of the communication, it is likely that the terminals will only be intermittently connected due to mobility. As a result, data are delivered in a store-carry and forward paradigm in such networks. Examples include vehicular networks, mobile sensor networks, deep space communications, etc. In this workshop we aim to explore novel research issues related to Delay (or Disruption)-Tolerant Mobile Networks (DTMN) and bringing together state-of-the-art contributions in this emerging area.
