Call for Papers
IEEE INFOCOM 2008 High-Speed Networks Workshop (HSN 2008)
Phoenix, Arizona, USA
Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 1 pm to 6 pm
http://www.arl.wustl.edu/~hsn2008
Technical Sponsors
* IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on High-Speed Networking (TCHSN)
* IEEE ComSoc Optical Networking Technical Committee (ONTC)
Traditionally held in conjunction with IEEE INFOCOM, the workshop on
High-Speed Networks brings together researchers from a wide spectrum
of areas related to end-to-end communications at rates up to the Tbps
range. While physical transmission media enable such high-bitrate
communications, existing link, network, transport, and application
protocols and their software and hardware implementations in both
end systems and core nodes have not yet realized this potential.
The limitations of the current designs justify exploration of novel
clean-slate approaches to dependable high-bitrate networking desired
in e-Science, medicine, entertainment, data centers and other
application domains.
HSN 2008 provides a unique forum for discussions centered on the design,
validation and deployment of high-speed networks without imposing the
constraint of straightforward integration of the proposed ideas into
the existing network infrastructure. All topics pertinent to high-speed
networking are of interest. They include but are not limited to the
following:
* Network architectures including clean-slate approaches
* Switching technologies including packet and circuit switching
* Transport protocols including congestion control, scheduling
and reliable delivery
* Applications requiring high-speed end-to-end services
* Cross-layer network protocols
* Security at high bitrates and with large data volumes
* Node design including network processors, configurable logic,
input/output and storage
* Innovative physical transmission media and associated systems
* Metropolitan area networks, Carrier Ethernet and next-generation
optical transport
* High-speed access technologies

MobilityModels'08
First ACM SIGMOBILE International Workshop on
Mobility Models for Networking Research
Colocated with ACM SIGMOBILE MobiHoc'08
Hong Kong
26 May 2008
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/srg/netos/mobilitymodels08/
*Scope of the Workshop*
One of the key issues in the evaluation of algorithms, protocols and
systems for mobile networks is modeling node mobility. Different types
of models have been proposed in the last decade, from those founded on
purely synthetic movements, such as the ones based on purely random
movements of the nodes to the ones based aiming at reproducing the
mobility patterns inside specific places like campuses or cities. In
addition, efforts to collect real traces of people movement have been
made and traces have been made available and used in simulators.
Despite these efforts, the problem of understanding and modeling
mobility, and, more specifically, human mobility remains of great
interest for the mobile ad hoc networks community, as many questions
are still unanswered and evaluation methodologies still
unsatisfactory. New insights and more refined and realistic models are
still needed, bringing together real world measurements and
mathematical characterization of node mobility. These problems are of
interest to anyone working on mobile networking, as these models are
often at the basis of the performance evaluation, comparison, and
validation of new approaches and solutions. We solicit the papers on
mobility models for various wireless networks including MANETs, DTNs
and vehicular networks. Papers on mobility characterizations based on
real traces are also welcomed.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers working or
interested in mobility modeling and characterizations. We wish to
build a lively forum to propose and discuss recent advances in
mobility modeling both from theoretical and practical point of views.
The workshop will be opened to contributions from researchers tackling
the research problems in this area from different perspectives, with
the aim of discussing the many open issues in movement modeling trying
to identify novel solutions to be investigated also by means of
collaborations among the participants of the workshop. We will welcome
especially highly innovative and/or controversial contributions,
debunking existing results or confirming existing models by means of
new experimental results. Papers providing key mathematical insights
on open mobility modeling issues will also be highly appreciated. We
invite to submit papers in the following areas:
* Design, implementation and evaluation of synthetic and trace-based
mobility models
* Validation of synthetic models using real world traces
* Mathematical characterization of human mobility
* Analysis and characterization of dynamic network topologies
* Mobility and connectivity modeling
* Influence of mobility on radio characterization
* Complex networks models for mobility modeling
* Human mobility and social networks
* Impact of mobility modeling on algorithms, protocols and systems
performance
* Network measurements and mobility characterization
* Simulation tools and testbed for mobility simulation
* Systems testing based on real world mobility traces
* Mobility traces collection and data archive, including privacy issues
* Mobility characterizations of real traces
*Submission Format*
Page length is up to 8 pages (10pt ACM format). The proceedings will
be published by ACM and will be available in the ACM Digital Library.
Papers should not be anonymized. Papers should be submitted
electronically in PDF through EDAS. Instructions are available in the
workshop Website.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue of Elsevier Computer Communications on "Adaptive Multicarrier
Communications and Networks"
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/comcom
Scope
=====
Authors are invited to submit detailed technical manuscripts reporting
recent developments in the topics related to the special issue. Multicarrier
communications is a very promising technique to deliver high data rate and
combat delay spread over fading channel. OFDM-based multicarrier
communications is used in the standards IEEE 802.11 WirelessLAN, IEEE 802.16
WirelessMAN, and 3GPP-LTE Group 4G. Adaptability is an inherent advantage of
multicarrier communication systems. It can be either implemented in each
layer in the protocol stack or realized through a cross-layer approach. The
essential self-x attributes, i.e. self-configuration, self-management,
self-healing, in enabling autonomic adaptability are in the early stage of
research. In addition, there are a number of emerging technical, economical,
and regulatory challenges when the multicarrier system is co-operating with
unlicensed systems via a cognitive radio paradigm. This special issue is
devoted to exploring how adaptive capability is employed from physical to
network and application layers in multicarrier communications, networks,
systems, and standards.
Some suggested topics include but are not limited to:
=======================================================
. Adaptive coding and modulation
. Adaptive signal processing techniques . Multicarrier CDMA/OFDMA .
Multiuser interference in cellular systems . Self-configuration,
self-management, and self-healing . Autonomic architectures and protocols .
Cognitive and adaptive systems . Security and privacy management . Resource,
Mobility and QoS provisioning . Cross-layer optimization . MAC and Network
layer management . Adaptive multimedia transmission . Cooperation/Game
theory for multiuser communications . Network reliability, dependability,
and survivability . Network modeling and performance analysis . Multicarrier
communications in Broadband Wireless Access, e.g. Cellular and WiMAX .
Testbed, experiment, implementation, and applications

CALL FOR PAPERS
***********************************************************************
The First ACM International Workshop on Integrated Heterogeneous Sensor
Networks (HeterSenet 2008)
Hong Kong, China, May 30, 2008, co-located with ACM MobiHoc
http://anyserver.cityu.edu.hk/HeterSenet/hetersenet.htm
***********************************************************************
Recent years have witnessed an increasing trend of integration of sensor
networks with existing infrastructure networks like wired networks and
wireless local/wide-area networks. Such integration provides several key
technical advantages including significant improvement of sensor
networks' capacity/coverage, ubiquitous access of physical information
and involvement of people (e.g., mobile phone users) in the process of
information gathering and sharing. As a result, a range of new context
and location-aware pervasive computing applications will be enabled.
The workshop seeks to provide a forum for the presentation of research
results on the integration of sensor networks with existing
infrastructure networks like wired networks, and wireless
local/wide-area networks. A heterogeneous network environment is
typically composed of terminals with different capacities such as
sensors, actuators, mobile devices (PDAs and mobile phones), and
Internet hosts. Seamlessly integration of these terminals requires
innovative network architectures, data services, and communication
protocols. In urban environments, mobile phones can be used as sensors
to collect image, audio, video and location information. New business
models and incentives should be sought to allow mobile phone users to
participate in the creation and provision of sensor based services.
The workshop will cover data link, network and transport layers, as well
as application, data services and middleware, security, power management
issues in integrated heterogeneous networks, including sensors and
actuators, local area, vehicular, personal, and wide-area networks.
Possible topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
- integration of sensor networks with the future Internet architecture
- network support for creation and deployment of sensor based services
- interconnection between sensor networks and 3G networks
- multimedia (audio/video) sensor networks
- delay-tolerant sensor networks
- sensor database systems and operating systems
- addressing, position determination, service and location discovery
- sensor area coverage, data-centric operations
- data communication, routing and broadcasting protocols
- traffic engineering and multimedia, Quality of Service (QoS)
- resource management and scheduling
- application of RFID in sensor networks
- security for integrated and heterogeneous sensor network systems
- performance evaluation, testbeds, modeling and simulation.

1st Workshop on Urban Networks and Applications (UNA ’08)
Lakeshore Hotel, Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 4-6, 2008
http://una.cs.ucc.ie
held in conjunction with the
13th IEEE Asia-Pacific Computer Systems Architecture Conference
http://www.ccrc.nthu.edu.tw/acsac2008
Urban settings are host of diverse networking technologies, from
cellular and wired broadband to WiMAX, WiFi, Bluetooth and, more
recently, mesh and sensor networks. While this rich environment
offers opportunities for connectivity, inter-operability and
sharing of services and resources, the co-existence of these
heterogeneous technologies, competing for the same resources and
offering similar services, poses difficult engineering and legal
problems. For example, network planning is a major issue that
can determine the effective use of each network and, when
possible, inter-operability of the networks. Cities
administrations are keen to deploy and take advantage of public
service networks, whereas citizens are interested to use public
or private services at home, at work or while driving or walking.
Private initiatives may selectively focus on certain niche
services. Overall, urban networks can increase the quality of
life in cities and can make the distinction among cities. In
achieving this goal, many technical challenges have to be tackled.
This workshop will be a forum for discussion of new and
interdisciplinary ideas on new architectures, paradigms, concepts,
service models and novel applications for urban networks.
The topics for submission include but are not limited to:
cognitive radio technologies
congestion control
micro- and pico-cell control architecture
hybrid cell configuration
sensor networks in urban settings
personal area networks
vehicular networks
mesh networks
mobile ad hoc networks
networks planning
networks inter-operability
data mining of a large volume of data in urban networks
database support for urban networks
network and service discovery
mobility supporting services
context awareness
mobile middleware
ubiquitous and urban computing
urban network systems and applications
locative media and applications
access, security and privacy in urban networks
Submissions
Both research and industry papers are solicited. Submitted papers
should be original, unpublished work and not currently under review
for any other conference or journal. Papers reporting work in
progress are welcome. Questions about the submission process
should be directed to the workshop chair.
All submitted papers will be rigorously reviewed by members of the
international program committee. Accepted papers will appear in the
Proceedings of ACSAC 2008, which is to be published by the
IEEE Computer Society Press.
