Call for Papers (Deadline: April 14, 2008)
International Workshop on
Cyber-Physical Systems Challenges and Applications (CPS-CA'08)
http://www.hurray.isep.ipp.pt/cps-ca08
11-Jun-2008
Santorini Island, Greece
in conjunction with the 4th IEEE International Conference on
Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS'08) - http://www.dcoss.org
OVERVIEW
Although the IT transformation in the 20th century appeared
revolutionary, a bigger change is probably yet to come. The term
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has come to describe the research
and technological effort that will ultimately efficiently allow
interlinking the real world physical objects and cyberspace.
Actually, a few other terms have been used to describe similar
endeavors. The term "Internet of Things", originally aiming at
RFID technologies, is smoothly becoming synonymous for cyber-physical
systems.
The integration of physical processes and computing is not new.
Embedded systems have been in place since a long time to denote
systems that combine physical processes with computing. The
revolution will come from massively networking embedded computing
devices which will allow instrumenting the physical world with
pervasive networks of sensor-rich, embedded computation.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
In the long-term, one can expect networks with millions nodes in
operation. Such Large-scale sensor-rich networked systems will
generate an enormous amount of data and important challenges need
to be addressed. A Cyber-Physical System integrates computing,
communication and storage of information with monitoring and
control of physical entities, in a timely, reliable, secure,
efficient and safe manner. In large-scale systems, these are often
contradictory requirements, and numerous technical challenges
are posed, including architectures, networks and platforms, OS
and middleware, heterogeneous system composition, etc. These
technical challenges span a number of CPS applications, including:
critical infrastructure monitoring; transportation and automotive
networks; power grid management; disaster response; precision
agriculture; tele-physical services; structural monitoring; etc.
FORMAT OF THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will feature invited talks, including keynotes, panel
discussions and submitted contributions.
PAPER SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Submitted papers should follow the IEEE conference format and
should not exceed 6 pages in length. File formats can be either
pdf or postscript. All submissions will be handled electronically
via email. Submissions must be sent to the workshop program chair,
Prof. Eduardo Tovar (emt(a)dei.isep.ipp.pt), before the submission
deadline (April 14, 2008).

[Tccc] CFP: 2nd International Workshop on Heterogeneous Wireless Networks Resource
by Ahmed H. Zahran 06 Apr '08
by Ahmed H. Zahran 06 Apr '08
06 Apr '08
The Second IEEE international Workshop on Heterogeneous Wireless
Networks Resource Management and QoS.
This workshop is organized in conjunction with the 4t IEEE
International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking
and Communications (WiMob 2008). The conference is hosted in Avignon,
France on 12-14 Oct 2008.
Scope
The fourth generation (4G) of wireless communications is expected to
integrate a potentially large number of different heterogeneous
wireless technologies in what could be considered a huge step forward
towards universal wireless access and omnipresent computing through
seamless mobility. Even though 4G standard is currently not defined,
there are many current outlooks that delineate the vision of the new
wireless technologies. Based on the emergent trends of mobile
communication, 4G will have larger bandwidth, higher data rates,
smoother and quicker handoff and will focus on guaranteeing faultless
service and seamless handoff across a multitude of wireless networks.
The key concept is integrating the 4G capabilities with all of the
existing mobile technologies. Special maneuvers will be necessary
amongst different access systems in terms of horizontal (intrasystem)
and vertical (inter-system) handoff as well as seamless mobility,
Quality of Service (QoS), dependability and security. In this
workshop, we solicit high quality papers from leading researchers that
present state-of-the-art research in heterogeneous wireless networks
dealing with resource management techniques and QoS provisioning.

by Ying Zhang 05 Apr '08
by Ying Zhang 05 Apr '08
05 Apr '08
CALL FOR PAPERS
***********************************************************************
The First ACM International Workshop on Mobile Entity Localization and
Tracking in GPS-less Environments (MELT 2008)
URL: http://www.parc.com/MELT08
San Francisco, California, September 19, 2008,
co-located with ACM MobiCom08
***********************************************************************
Location-awareness is a key component for achieving context-awareness.
Recent years have witnessed an increasing trend of location-based services
and applications. In most cases, however, location information is limited
by the accessibility to GPS, which is unavailable for indoor or underground
facilities and unreliable in urban environments. Much research has been
done,
in both the sensor network community and the ubiquitous computing
community,
to provide techniques for localization and tracking in GPS-less
environments.
Novel applications based on ad-hoc localization and real-time tracking of
mobile entities are growing as a result of these technologies. It is time
to bring leaders from both the academic and industry research
communities to
discuss challenging and open problems, to evaluate pros and cons of various
approaches, to bridge the gap between theory and applications, and to
envision new research opportunities in MELT.
The workshop seeks to provide a forum for the state-of-the-art technologies
in mobile localization and tracking and novel applications of
location-based
services. The one-day workshop will have a combination of invited talks,
technical presentations and discussions.

* Collaborative Localization and Data Fusion
* Combined Camera/Sensor Localization and Tracking
* Hybrid Location-Determination (e.g., RF+vision)
* Secure and Robust Localization
Application topics:
* Search and Rescue Operations
* Asset Tracking/Yard Management
* Material/In-process flow control

SUBJECT AND SCOPE
-----------------
This workshop covers comprehensively the algorithmic issues in the hot area
of ad hoc and sensor networking. In particular, sensor networks are
currently recognized as one of the priority research areas and research
activities are booming recently.
This workshop concentrates on network layer problems like data communication
(routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and
topology control (neighbor discovery, power adjustment, neighbor
elimination, etc.). The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or
greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols requiring global
information. Localized algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple
local node behavior achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols
provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks with an
arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this plan.
The objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research
results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing area
of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Medium access control
* Analytical, mobility and validation models
* Hybrid networks and wireless Internet
* Security in ad hoc networks
* Data management, query processing, and data delivery in sensor networks
* Unicast routing, multicasting, and broadcasting
* Geocasting and anycasting
* Energy-efficient and bandwidth-efficient protocols
* Quality of service in medium access control and routing
* Topology construction and maintenance
* Neighborhood discovery and mobility management
* Localized protocols for duty-cycled sensor networks
* Auto-configuration and network formation protocols and algorithms
* Relative positioning algorithms
* Lower bounds on information exchange required for localized solutions
* Network graph properties supporting localized protocols
* Worst and average case analysis on the deviation from optimal solutions

CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
This workshop intends to bring together researchers working in the broad
area of experimental wireless networking. This workshop will serve as a
forum to share new ideas/experiences in all experimental aspects of wireless
networks and systems, and facilitate discussions of key unresolved
challenges in this area.

WiNCOOL DEMO CONTEST
====================
This year, we are challenging the community to show us their latest,
coolest, chair-rocking and mind-blowing innovation in an operational
demonstration. Go beyond the theoretical limitations and shed off the
numerous assumptions about wireless system and present an operational
prototype that has the potential to revolutionize wireless networking.
Innovations can be at any layer, from physical to application. However, we
particularly encourage innovations that span over multiple layers. The
innovations must have wireless networking as its key topic. The demo must be
presented live, i.e. a presentation of a demo (powerpoint, video, etc) only
is not allowed. Also, we emphasize that the demo contest is not a forum to
display commercial products. The demo contest will be judged by a panel from
industry and academia based on their technical merit and relevance to the
workshop. The winners will take home cash prices (details to follow) and
bragging rights to award-winning research demonstrators. The extended
abstract of the accepted demonstrations will be published in the workshop
proceedings and will be available at the ACM digital library.
CALL FOR POSTERS
================
WiNTECH 2008 is seeking proposals for posters describing novel work in
wireless network testbeds, measurements and characterizations. The areas of
interest are the same as those listed in the technical call for papers. The
posters may describe work in progress and offers an excellent opportunity
for feedback and discussions on early research. All submissions will be
reviewed by the technical program committee and will be judged by their
technical merit and relevance to workshop. The extended abstract of the
accepted posters will be published in the workshop proceedings and will be
available at the ACM digital library.

First International Workshop on REsource Discovery (RED)
http://bioinformatics.eas.asu.edu/RED/red2008.html
in conjunction with
10th International Conference on Information Integration and Web-based
Applications & Services
(iiWAS2008)
A resource corresponds to an information source such as a data
repository or database
management system (e.g., a query form or a textual search engine), a
link between resources
(an index or hyperlink), or a service such as an application or
tool. Resources are
characterized by core information including a name, a description
of its input and its
output (parameters or format), its address, and various additional
properties expressed as
metadata.
Resource discovery is the process of identifying and locating
existing resources that have
a particular property. Machine-based resource discovery relies on
crawling, clustering, and
classifying resources discovered on the Web automatically.
Resources are organized with
respect to metadata that characterize their content (for data
sources), their semantics (in
terms of ontological classes and relationships), their
characteristics (syntactical
properties), their performance (with metrics and benchmarks),
their quality (curation,
reliability, trust), etc. Resource discovery systems allow the
expression of queries to
identify and locate resources that implement specific tasks.
The International Workshop on Resource Discovery aims at bringing
together researchers,
developers, and practitioners to discuss research issues and
experience in developing and
deploying concepts, applications, and solutions addressing
various issues related to
resource discovery. Papers presenting either theoretical or
applicative material are
expected. Because of the dynamic research and development
effort towards supporting
resource discovery for the life sciences, we expect to receive many
contributions in the
scope of this very exciting application domain. However, we
encourage the submission of
generic solutions or the presentation of application experiences
other than related to
life sciences.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Service publication standards (UDDI, OWL-S, etc.)
- Web services
- BioMoby services
- Resource semantics
- Resource formats and metadata
- Resource metadata for efficient execution
- Data-centric Web services
- Domain ontologies for resources
- Metadata models for describing web resources
- Automatic extraction of metadata in particular with Web 2.0 tools
(wikis, blogs...)
- Models for registration of resources
- Automatic registration of resources
- Resource indexing
- Visualization of resource metadata
- Query languages for resource discovery
- user-friendly interface for resource discovery
- Resource mining, discovering services on the Web
- Mobile web services
- Service discovery protocols
- Identification protocols that can distinguish between resources and
metadata
- Interoperability-driven resource discovery
- Discovery for integration, composition, workflow, dataflow
- Metadata for resource mapping
- Dynamic service composition
- Service efficiency prediction
- QoS-based service discovery
- Resource relevance measures
- Semantics-driven resource discovery
- Discovery on the private (or invisible) web

Workshop: Software, Services und Plattformen für neue Infrastrukturen in
der Telekommunikation
http://www.ubicomp.net/sspit08/
Einreichung von Workshop-Beiträgen bis zum 28.04.2008
Motivation
Telekommunikation
* Software and Services for Operations Support Systems / Business
Support Systems (OSS/BSS)
* Management für Telekommunikationsplattformen
* Flexible und skalierbare service-orientierte Architekturen für TelCos
* Last-Mile Software Lösungen
* Erfahrungsberichte über die Migration auf eine
Service-Orientierte-Architektur in Telekommunikationssystemen
Einreichungen
(http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=informatik2008ws). Bitte
Programmkomitee begutachtet.
Termine
Einreichung von Workshop-Beiträgen: 28.04.2008
Mitteilung über Annahme/Ablehnung: 02.06.2008
Abgabe der fertigen Druckvorlagen: 01.07.2008
Konferenz Informatik 2008 in München: 8.-13.11.2008
Adressatenkreis
Der Workshop richtet sich an Anwender, Entwickler, Entscheidungsträger
und Wissenschaftler, die an neuen und innovativen
Telekommunikationsinfrastrukturen Interesse haben. Es soll ein Forum für
die Präsentation und Diskussion neuer Forschungsergebnisse und
praktischer Erfahrungen geboten werden. Thematischer Schwerpunkt des
Workshops sind Ansätze für beherrschbare Ansätze für
Telekommunikationsinfrastrukturen, insbesondere aus Sicht der
Softwaretechnik und der verteilten Systeme.

> Special Issue on
> Challenges in Future Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
>
> ===========================================================
>
> Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETS) are non-infrastructure based
> networks that do not rely on a central administration for
> communication between vehicles. In a Vehicular Ad Hoc Network, the
> overlapping transmission range of each vehicle ensures a unified and
> common channel for communication between the vehicles. The
> flexibility of VANETS widely opens the door to myriad applications
> that contribute to the safety and comfort of the vehicle's
> passengers. Unfortunately, this versatility does not come for free:
> there is a large number of computer communication challenges that
> are awaiting researches and engineers that are serious about the
> implementations and deployments of VANETS.
>
> The goal of this special issue is to explore developments and
> current/future challenges in the area of vehicular ad-hoc networks.
> Enabled by short- to medium-range communication systems (vehicle-
> vehicle or vehicle-roadside), the vision of vehicular networks
> includes real-time and safety applications, sharing the wireless
> channel with mobile applications from a large, decentralized array
> of commercial service providers. Vehicular safety applications
> include collision and other safety warnings. Non-safety applications
> include real-time traffic congestion and routing information, high-
> speed tolling, mobile infotainment, and many others. Creating high-
> performance, highly scalable, robust and secure vehicular networking
> technologies presents an extraordinary challenge to the wireless
> research community.
>
> Topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
>
> * VANET Architecture
> * Protocol design (low-power, multi-channel)
> * Routing and MAC protocols
> * Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Roadside
> * Channel and traffic Modeling
> * Security and privacy
> * Collaboration and information sharing
> * Cross-layer optimization techniques
> * Safety and commercial applications
> * Scalability
> * Mobility management and handoffs
> * Interoperability with other networks such as Sensor Networks,
> MANETs, Cellular networks, etc.
> * Tracking and data delivery
> * Service Discovery techniques
