Call for Papers
5th International Conference on Testbeds and Research Infrastructures
for the Development of Networks & Communities (TRIDENTCOM 2009)
April 6-8, 2009, Washington D.C., USA
http://www.tridentcom.org/
Sponsored by: ICST
Technically co-Sponsored by:
- CREATE-NET
- ACM SIGARCH
- IEEE Industrial Electronics Society
- IEEE Computer Society
- Pan European Laboratory Infrastructure Implementation
TridentCom 2009 represents a landmark in the history of international
testbed conferences. With the rapid convergence of networks and
applications, changes in related industries, more complex value chains
and increased competition, early prototyping and experimentation will
become a key means for driving innovation and development of market
oriented solutions. In this context, value generation has shifted from
network technologies towards applications and content. Thus, the nature
and scope of testbeds have changed substantially in recent years from
solely network technologies towards complex service delivery
infrastructures riding on various networks. In contrast to traditional
vendor, operator and technology specific "closed" testbeds, the notion
of "open" testbeds has emerged. "Open" in this context means both wide
access as a shared resource and extensibility to include on-demand new
end systems, network technologies, protocol stacks, and, most
importantly, new middleware and service delivery platforms for specific
test purposes. To meet this need, major research and development
programs have started around the globe, including GENI in the U.S. and
FIRE in Europe, to establish large scale experimental facilities.
TridentCom 2009 will provide a forum to explore existing and planned
testbed concepts, infrastructures, and tools to address the research and
business challenges in a world of global convergence. Prospective
authors from academia, industry and government are invited to submit
high quality papers in two categories, Full Papers and Testbed Practices
Papers, as well as demonstration proposals reporting on all aspects of
testbed and research infrastructure operation and management, including,
but not limited to:

With the rapid growing of emerging multimedia communications applications,
such as online gaming, video conferencing, video streaming, and mobile TV,
along with the prevalent HD contents and the ever-increasing hardware
capability with lower cost, consumers nowadays are seeking for higher
quality of multimedia services in terms of desirable audio and visual
quality, friendly user interactivity, powerful system adaptability and
capability, and other user-preferred performance metrics. However, various
applications and media formats may have different quality evaluation
criteria and control parameters. For example, scalability and interactivity
are very crucial performance metrics for 3D graphics scene model
representation and delivery, while they may not be that important for some
other multimedia applications. Thus, there is a strong impetus to develop
new quality evaluation methodologies for various media formats under
different multimedia application scenarios. Recently, cross-layer design has
become a popular design methodology for enhancing Quality-of-Service (QoS)
over various multimedia communications systems. However, most existing
cross-layer designs for QoS provisioning in multimedia communications are
mainly focused on improving network-oriented QoS such as throughput, delay,
and jitter, while the multimedia application-oriented QoS have not been
fully considered in the existing cross-layer design optimization. Therefore,
quality-driven multimedia communications need to be extensively investigated
under various communications scenarios involving audio, video, VoIP, image,
and/or graphics. Under such a background, it is very important to highlight
the importance of quality-driven cross-layer design as one of the enabling
technologies for the next-generation quality-aware service-oriented
multimedia networks.
The aim of this special issue is to bring together the state-of-the-art
research contributions that address the various aspects of quality-driven
cross-layer designs for multimedia communications. Original completed and
unpublished works not currently under review by any other
journal/magazine/conference are solicited. Topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:
User perceptual quality enhancement methodology
Media quality measurements for communications applications
Optimized 3D graphics scene representation and transmissions
Optimized image/video representation and transmissions
Optimized audio/speech coding and transmissions
Content-aware cross-layer design and optimization
Scalability and mobility issues in cross-layer design
Quality-driven cross-layer design architecture
Quality-driven resource management, scheduling, and admission control
Quality-driven cross-layer MAC and routing protocols
Cross-layer protocol stacks for quality support
Performance evaluation of quality-driven cross-layer system design
Standardization issues related to quality-driven cross-layer design
Cross-layer design for P2P streaming
Cross-layer design for multimedia sensor networks

HotMobile 2009
The Tenth Workshop on
Mobile Computing, Systems, and Applications
Hilton Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, CA, USA
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
www.hotmobile.org/2009/
+------------------------------------------------------------------+
ACM HotMobile 2009, the Tenth Workshop on Mobile Computing Systems and
Applications continues the series of highly selective, interactive
workshops focused on mobile applications, systems, and environments,
as well as their underlying state-of-the-art technologies. HotMobile's
small workshop format makes it ideal for presenting and discussing
new directions or controversial approaches.
We solicit submissions of position papers that focus primarily on
applications and systems and that propose new directions of research,
advocate non-traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate
controversy and discussion. We particularly look for position papers
containing highly original ideas in the following topic areas, although
papers describing other challenges unique to or exacerbated by mobility
are also welcome:
* Operating system and distributed systems support for mobile computing
* Coordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of mobile devices
* Novel applications and environments supporting mobility
* HCI issues related to mobile computing
* Security and privacy of mobile computing
* Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they
focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system
or application.
HotMobile 2009 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will be
judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance, and
likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the workshop.
To encourage an atmosphere conducive to participation, attendance will be
limited to 70 participants. Authors of submitted papers and accepted demo
proposals will be given first priority, with others able to register
on a space-available basis.
Paper submissions are due on Oct 13, 2008 at 23:59:59 PDST.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S.
letter pages in PDF format, including all references, figures and
tables. Papers should use the standard ACM template, available at:
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
Conference proceedings will be published by the ACM. Unlike
previous years, printed proceedings will be given to participants
at the workshop (rather than having a post-conference proceedings).
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere
and may not be simultaneously under submission at another venue.
Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are not
acceptable and will be returned to the author(s) unread. As customary
with the scientific peer review process, submissions will be handled
as confidential material during the review.
The important dates as well as the organizing and program committee
members are
listed below.
We look forward to seeing you at HotMobile 2009.
Sincerely,
Nilanjan Banerjee (nilanb(a)cs.umass.edu)
