Call for papers: IEEE SUTC 2010
The Third IEEE Intl. Conf. on Sensor Networks, Ubiquitous, and
Trustworthy Computing
June 7-9, 2010
Hyatt Regency Newport Beach
Newport Beach, California, USA
http://sutc2010.eecs.uci.edu
The availability of small, low-cost, and low-power sensors, radios,
and microcontrollers has triggered a huge wave of research in
networked embedded sensing systems. As a result, different research
communities have emerged that work on related aspects, but have
slightly different foci. A focus of the sensor network community is on
energy-efficient systems and networking solutions. While these aspects
are also fundamental for ubiquitous computing, a focus of the latter
community is on user interaction. The currently emerging
cyber-physical systems community emphasizes the integration of
actuation and control. Despite these differences, the realization of
the above visions involves a common fundamental challenge: The need
for trustworthy computing solutions to deliver secure, private, and
reliable computing and communication services.
The aim of the IEEE International Conference on Sensor Networks,
Ubiquitous, and Trustworthy Computing (SUTC 2010) is to bring together
the above communities to exchange latest results, to join efforts in
solving the common challenges, but also to contrast the developments
in the different communities. To support this goal, the conference
will feature several (serial) tracks devoted to sensor networks,
ubiquitous computing, and cyber-physical systems, as well as tracks
devoted to common themes such as pervasive services and data
management, embedded networking, and trustworthy computing. In
addition, the conference features invited talks and panel discussions.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Submissions of high quality papers describing mature results or
on-going work are invited. Topics for submission include, but are not
limited to the following aspects of sensor networks, ubiquitous
computing, cyber-physical systems, and trustworthy computing:
- Applications (novel use cases, deployment experience, ...)
- Algorithms and Protocols (topology, coverage, routing, timesync,
distributed coordination, ...)
- Data Management and Processing (gathering, storage, fusion,
dissemination, ...)
- Deployment, Testing, and Debugging
- Design and Programming Methodologies
- Distributed Sensing, Actuation, and Control
- Energy management
- Embedded processors, sensors, and actuators
- Management aspects (configuration, adaptation, healing, ...)
- Mobility, Location, and Context
- Modeling and Performance Evaluation (simulation, complexity
analysis, user studies, ...)
- Operating Systems, Services, and Middleware
- Privacy
- QoS aspects
- Reliability
- Security (authentication, access control, intrusion detection
and tolerance, ...)
- Social Issues
- System and Network Architectures
- Trust (establishment, negotiation, management, ...)
- User Interface Technologies
- Wireless Communication and Networks (ad hoc networks, personal
area networks, ...)
PAPER SUBMISSION
The conference solicits original and previously unpublished research
and industrial papers. Submissions should be prepared in IEEE
conference proceedings format, up to 8 pages in two-column, no less
than 10 pt font and uploaded in pdf at the conference submission site
(detailed submission instructions will be made available on the
conference homepage).

==================================================================
IEEE Network Magazine Special Issue on
"Future Internet: New Applications and Emerging Services"
==================================================================
Background
The Internet has been successfully deployed for several decades due to its
high flexibility in running over different physical mediums and supporting
different high layer protocols and applications including traditional file
transfer, e-mail, and client-server based web applications. Meanwhile, we
have witnessed the unprecedented development and growth of new applications
and services in recent years ranging from peer-to-peer (P2P) based
applications, image and video applications, location-based services, secured
transactions, online hosting services, machine-to-machine (M2M)
interactions, and cloud computing. These new applications and emerging
services have, in different degree, demanded better than the current
best-effort quality of service.
The future Internet is expected to be more agile, scalable, secure and
reliable, which has been considered and pursued in research projects such as
NSF FIND (Future Internet Design) and GENI (Global Environment for Network
Innovations) programs in the United States, and EIFFEL (Evolved Internet
Future for European Leadership) and FIREworks (Future Internet Research and
Experimentation - Strategy Works) projects in Europe. Such ever-emerging
applications with different requirements and implications for the future
Internet design pose a significantly new set of problems and challenges,
which are not well understood, specifically : 1) how can they be efficiently
provisioned in the future Internet? 2) how can the future Internet be
evolved and/or re-designed possible with radical changes to cater for new
applications and services? The goal of this special issue is to feature
recent and emerging Internet applications and services, their performance,
impact, demands and implications for future Internet design.
Scope
Papers should contain substantial tutorial content and be accessible to a
general audience of researchers and practitioners. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:

by Römer Kay Uwe 20 Oct '09
20 Oct '09

- Algorithms and Protocols (topology, coverage, routing, timesync,
distributed coordination, ...)
- Data Management and Processing (gathering, storage, fusion,
dissemination, ...)
- Deployment, Testing, and Debugging
- Design and Programming Methodologies
- Distributed Sensing, Actuation, and Control
- Energy management
- Embedded processors, sensors, and actuators
- Management aspects (configuration, adaptation, healing, ...)
- Mobility, Location, and Context
- Modeling and Performance Evaluation (simulation, complexity
analysis, user studies, ...)
- Operating Systems, Services, and Middleware

CALL FOR PAPERS (CFP)
IEEE Communications Magazine Feature Topic Issue on "Green Communications"
The unprecedented expansion of wireline and wireless networks has resulted
in increase in energy consumption and left a significant environmental
footprint. Recently, it has been reported that energy costs can account for
as much as half of a mobile service provider's annual operating expenses.
If the aggregate energy consumption of networking devices would follow the
growth trajectories of Internet traffic (i.e., about 60% per year), the
environmental and financial consequences will be dire. Thus, making ICT
equipment and applications "greener" can not only have a tangible positive
impact on environment, but also help operators attain long-term
profitability. Moreover, green communications can help the world reduce
dependence on fossil fuel, enable demand response and distributed energy
resources, and ultimately achieve sustainable prosperity. Accordingly, a
myriad of communications and information technologies have already been
exploited by the global smart grid initiatives to empower conventional power
grid to support two-way energy and information flow.
To meet the green communications challenges, we have to resort to a plethora
of paradigm-shifting technologies, including but not limiting to
energy-efficient network architecture & protocols, energy-efficient wireless
transmission techniques, energy-efficient home networking, energy-aware
backbone networks, Smart Grid, and opportunistic spectrum sharing without
causing harmful interference pollution (e.g., Green Spectrum).
This IEEE Communications Magazine special issue (feature topic issue) aims
to provide a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art in technology,
regulation and standardization for "Green Communications", and present a
holistic view of research challenges and opportunities in the coming green
era. Suggested topics include but not limit to the following:
. Energy-efficient circuit and device
. Energy-efficient transmission switching and routing technologies
. Energy-efficient base station architectures and networking
. Energy-efficiency in wired and wireless access networks
. Energy-efficiency in home and enterprise networking
. Energy efficiency of data centers and intelligent cloud computing
. Protocols and protocol extensions to enable energy efficient
networks
. Network-wide cross-layer optimizations to minimize energy
consumption
. Network load balance and smart information storage in distributed
networks
. Instrumentation for energy consumption measurement
. Remote power management for wireless terminals and access networks
. Hierarchical and distributed techniques for energy management
. Harvesting distributed energy generation
. Smart Grid
. Information theory on energy efficiency
. Cognitive, cooperative and reconfigurable networks
. Energy evaluation and comparison of different network technologies
. Novel network concepts and architectures lowering the overall
footprint of ICT (e.g., Compressed Sensing for network monitoring)
. Realistic estimation of the worldwide footprint of communications
and future evolution
. Assessment of the footprint of individual communication devices,
including life cycle assessment
. Regulation and standardization
. Deployment, trial experience, business models and applications
(e.g., green multimedia broadcasting, femtocells)
Articles should be tutorial in nature and should be written in a style
comprehensible to readers outside the specialty of the field. Authors must
follow the IEEE Communications Magazine's guidelines for preparation of the
manuscript. Complete guidelines for prospective authors can be found at
www.comsoc.org/pubs/commag/sub_guidelines.html
<http://www.comsoc.org/livepubs/ci1/info/sub_guidelines.html> . Please send
PDF (preferred) or MS WORD formatted paper to Manuscript Central
