CALL FOR PAPERS
Journal of Computer Systems, Networks, and Communications
Special issue on WiMAX, LTE and WiFi Interworking
Guest Editors: Rashid A. Saeed, Ahmed A. Mabrouk, Amitava Mukherjee, Francisco Falcone and K. Daniel Wong
Although WiMAX, LTE and WiFi all are provide wireless broadband connectivity, they have been optimized for different usage models: WiFi for very high-speed local area network connectivity and WiMAX, LTE for high-speed wireless cellular connectivity. By combining WiMAX, LTE and WiFi technologies, service providers can offer better usability of the networks infrastructure and support for seamless mobility and roaming. The unique similarities between WiMAX, LTE and WiFi networks that make the proposed synergy is promising is these technologies are fully packet switching uses IP-based technologies to provide connection services to the Internet. This standards- and IP-based network approach provides compelling benefits to service providers to collaborate between these technologies.
This special issue is intended to foster state-of-the-art research in the area of WiMAX, WiBro, LTE and WiFi networking and the corresponding technical advances in the design and deployment of feasible network architectures and protocols and to present novel results and solutions to solve various problems and challenges foreseen in WiMAX/LTE and WiFi interworking. The special issue will cover the following topical areas but are not limited to them:
WiMAX, WiBro, MobileFi, LTE and WiFi communications systems
Single/dual radio handover
Network architecture alternatives for inter-working and integration
Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
Seamless vertical handover and session continuity.
Multi-radio coexistence and power management
Authentication, Authorization and Accounting
Security issues
Common charging and billing
Quality of services (QoS)
Interworking using IMS, SIP, MIH, VCC and UMA
IEEE802.11u, IEEE802.16g/j/m/h
Scenarios and usage cases
WiMAX,WiBro, LTE and WiFi Interworking Testbed
Hybrid wireless mesh network
Applications, VOIP, video streaming, etc
IP Mobile, roaming and mobility management

CALL FOR PAPERS
Telecommunication Systems Journal (Springer)
Special issue on: Challenges in Next-Generation and Resource-Constrained
Networks
Network technologies are undergoing rapid advancements. Researchers are
currently envisioning different attractive properties of wireless
systems such as the ability to self-organize, self-configure, self-heal,
self-manage and self-maintain. Different networks having the potential
to offer cost-effective home and enterprise access networking solutions
are being researched. Concepts such as dynamic spectrum access,
convergence, unified network architectures and seamless service access
in heterogeneous networks are gaining widespread popularity.
Technologies such as Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs), WiFi, WiMax,
Bluetooth, IEEE 802.20, IEEE 802.22 and software defined radio are
gaining popularity. Even though these technologies hold great promises
for our future, there are several research challenges that need to be
addressed. This Special Issue aims to publish high quality research
papers relating to the recent advances in the challenges faced by
next-generation and resource-constrained networks. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to the following:
* Next Generation Core Networks
* Next Generation Wired Access Networks
* Next Generation Wireless Access Networks
* Next Generation Cellular wireless networks
* Next Generation Network Services
* Next Generation Network Multimedia Support
* High-capacity Networks
* Resource-constrained networks
* Wireless Internet
* Software defined radio
* Ultra-wide band radio
* Emerging Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks
* Wireless Mesh Networks
* IEEE 802.11 / IEEE 802.20 / IEEE 802.22
* Emerging wireless network security issues
* Emerging issues in 3G and 4G wireless networks
* Emerging wireless network architecture
* Multimedia over emerging wireless networks
* Underwater Sensor Networks
* Underground Sensor Networks
* Cooperative wireless communications
* Multi-hop relay wireless communications
* Interoperability between high-capacity and low-capacity networks.
It should be emphasized that this Special Issue will be dedicated to
only the emerging and next-generation communication network
technologies. Authors are discouraged from submitting papers relating to
technologies that have existed for long.
Submission Details:
Original, high quality contributions that are not yet published or that
are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed
conferences are sought. Manuscripts should be submitted by e-mail to

IEEE PerCom, now at its eighth edition, is the premier scholarly venue in
the areas of pervasive computing and communications, which aim at providing
a ubiquitous platform for supporting exciting anytime and anyplace services
paradigms. Pervasive computing and communications is a natural outcome of
the tremendous advances of a broad spectrum of technologies including
wireless networking, sensor networks, mobile and distributed computing, and
agent technologies. PerCom 2010 will provide a high profile, leading edge
forum for researchers and engineers alike to present state-of-the-art
research in the respective fields of pervasive computing and communications.
The conference will feature a diverse mixture of presentation forums
including core technical sessions, several targeted workshops,
demonstrations, keynote speeches and panel discussions from domain experts.
TOPICS
Research contributions are solicited in all areas pertinent to pervasive
computing and communications, including:
- Innovative pervasive computing applications
- Programming paradigms for pervasive systems
- Software evolution and maintenance in pervasive systems
- Middleware services and agent technologies
- Adaptive, autonomic and context-aware computing
- Mobile/Wireless computing systems and services in pervasive computing
- Energy-efficient and green pervasive computing
- Communication architectures for pervasive computing
- Ad hoc networks for pervasive communications
- Pervasive opportunistic communications and applications
- Enabling technologies for pervasive systems (e.g., wireless BAN, PAN)
- Positioning and tracking technologies
- Sensors and RFID in pervasive systems
- Multimodal sensing and context for pervasive applications
- Pervasive sensing, perception and semantic interpretation
- Smart devices and intelligent environments
- Trust, security and privacy issues in pervasive systems
- User interfaces and interaction models
- Virtual immersive communications
- Wearable computers
- Standards and interfaces for pervasive computing environments
- Social and economic models for pervasive systems
WORKSHOPS AND AFFILIATED EVENTS
Many workshops will be held in conjunction with the main conference.
Workshop papers will be included and indexed in the IEEE digital libraries
(Xplore), showing their affiliation with IEEE PerCom. As in the past, PerCom
2010 will also feature a PhD Forum, Demonstrations and a Work-in-Progress
Session. Please visit the conference website for details.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for
publication. Also, they must show a significant relevance to pervasive
computing and networking. Guidelines for preparing and submitting the
manuscript will be made available on the conference website
(http//www.percom.org/). All papers will be managed electronically through
EDAS. Submitted papers will undergo a rigorous review process handled by the
Technical Program Committee.
