----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The High-Speed Networks Workshop (HSN 2011) will be a half-day event
focusing
on the latest research and developments in the high-speed networking and
applications areas. Indeed, advances in a myriad of backbone
technologies have
now delivered unprecedented bandwidth scalabilities for users. As a
result, the
focus for many has evolved towards leveraging these solutions to build new
architectures and offer novel dynamic services across heterogeneous network
regions. In particular, in the core transport area, the theory of
network architecture,
experimental infrastructure, terabit-level transport protocols, traffic
engineering, and
network provisioning still remain a challenge. Meanwhile, evolving
applications are
posing new provisioning challenges in diverse areas, such as energy,
banking,
defense, medicine, and emergency. As a result, this workshop is designed to
address these very challenges and its location in conjunction with IEEE
INFOCOM
2011 will enable many broader interactions and discussions amongst the
participants.

***** CALL FOR PAPERS *****
Theme of the Workshop
=====================
Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks have received great research interests because
of their broad applications such as large-scale file sharing and media
streaming services. Until now, the success of P2P paradigms has been mainly
in traditional wired network environments. With the advance of modern
wireless and mobile communications (e.g., WLAN, MANET, WiMAX, 3G, 3.5G, and
emerging 4G), there is an increasing interest for mobile users with
broadband access to participate in P2P services anywhere anytime through
their mobile handheld devices.
Wireless mobile networks have special characteristics, such as highly
variable connectivity, disconnection, location-dependency, energy and
resource sensitivity, communication asymmetry, high bandwidth expense, and
so on. All these pose research challenges that do not exist in traditional
network settings. New techniques are thus required in order to leverage
mobile P2P computing for efficient and reliable applications and services.
Mobile P2P is a cross-disciplinary research involving networking,
information dissemination, databases, and security. The main goal of the
workshop is to gather scientists from these areas together to foster
collaboration and sparkle discussion on various aspects of mobile P2P,

The Second International Workshop on Networks of Cooperating Objects
CONET 2011
http://www.cooperating-objects.eu/events/conet-2011/
April 11th, 2011 – Chicago, USA
Co-located with CPSWeek 2011
During the last decade, the continuous improvement and miniaturization
of integrated circuits has led to new types of computing systems. An
emerging trend is the collaboration of miniature devices to achieve a
common goal. Representative examples include wireless sensor networks,
pervasive computing and embedded systems.
Along this trend, the notion of Cooperating Objects collectively
refers to embedded computing devices equipped with communication as
well as sensing or actuation capabilities, able to cooperate and
organize themselves autonomously into networks to achieve a common
task. As such, Cooperating Objects envision a single, coherent system
formed by a wide range of devices, including those from the areas
mentioned above. The complexity germane to the interaction inside and
across networks of Cooperating Objects presents a rich set of research
questions, and entails a wide range of scientific disciplines, such as
networking, software engineering, and control theory.
CONET 2011 will provide a discussion forum for researchers, aimed at
fostering synergy and convergence of complementary areas towards the
vision of networks of Cooperating Objects. Work-in-progress systems,
provocative ideas, and position papers paving the road towards such
synergy and convergence are particularly welcome.

7th IEEE International Workshop on Networking Issues in Multimedia
Entertainment
(NIME'11)
Maui, Hawaii, July 31 - August 4, 2011
Co-Located with IEEE ICCCN
Sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society
website - http://www.math.unipd.it/~cpalazzi/NIME11
THEME AND SCOPE
The growing availability of digital contents and the simultaneous cost
reductions in storage, processing, and networking is driving the growth
of the entertainment technology. While in the past entertainment
technology traditionally offered predominantly passive experiences,
continual advances in network and computer technologies are providing
tools for implementing greater interactivity and for enabling consumers
to enjoy more exciting experiences, such as, for example, interactive
digital TV, interactive theatre and orchestrated music and sound design.
This phenomenon is pulling together an extremely diverse group of
experts specializing in different technical areas, such as networking,
computer graphics, artificial intelligence, games, animation, multimedia
design, human-computer interaction, educational media and software
engineering. Even though high-tech entertainment promotes
interdisciplinary fusion, yet only the ubiquity of wireless/wired
communication is considered suitable for accepting the challenge of
building a large interactive environment for the delivery of the maximum
entertainment value to millions of consumers worldwide. In this respect,
there is a great hope that the wired and wireless may take over this
complex scenario for fulfilling the consumer expectations. The Seventh
IEEE International Workshop on Networking Issues in Multimedia
Entertainment provides an open forum for researchers, engineers and
academia to exchange the latest technical information and research
findings on next-generation networked multimedia concepts, technologies,
systems, and applications for entertainment covering existing
deployments, current developments and future evolution. Authors are

International Workshop on Propagation and Channel Models for Next Generation
Wireless Systems, March 2-4, 2011, Lyon, France
More information: http://iwpcm.conf.citi-lab.fr
The wireless access networks deployment during the last decades was assisted
by specific tools devoted to planning and optimization. The accuracy and
effectiveness of such software rely for an important part on the quality of
the radio channel prediction. Up to now, cellular networks exploited
dedicated radio resources and were deployed under thorough design and
planning procedures. Due to the radio spectrum scarcity, two fundamental
changes are anticipated. Firstly, the strict reservation of a specific band
for a unique standard could evolve toward a priority policy allowing the
co-existence of secondary users in a band allocated to a primary system.
Secondly, a strong densification of actual cellular networks is expected by
combining small outdoor cells and indoor femtocells (Home eNodeB) together
with actual systems. This evolution is accompanied with the emergence of
cognitive radio that becomes a reality in terminals and the development of
self-organization capabilities together with distributed cooperative
behaviours. Therefore, the aim of this new workshop is to give new
solutions in order to efficiently study the performance of next generation
mobile networks, with a particular focus on propagation and channel models.
The workshop will feature keynote addresses by: Dr Chia-Chin Chong (NTT
Docomo, USA), Prof Luis Correia (Technical University of Lisbon), Prof
Thomas Kürner (Technische Universität Braunschweig), Dr Su-Khiong Yong
(Marvell Semiconductor) and others to be confirmed
Main Topics
Academic and industrial researchers are encouraged to submit papers
identifying and discussing all the recent issues related to propagation and
channel modeling for future wireless systems. Topics of interest include but
are not limited to the following:
- Deterministic versus statistical channel models,
- Outdoor to indoor channel modeling,
- Indoor to outdoor channel modeling,
- Characterization of relay channels,
- Space and time correlated models for shadowing and/or fading,
- Non-Gaussian MIMO channel simulation and modeling,
- Radio propagation for heterogeneous networking,
- Propagation simulation tools for femto/pico/macro cells,
- Propagation models for next generation systems,
- Indoor/outdoor radio propagation models and scenarios,
- Simulation and measurements comparison,
- Diversity characterization in space/polarization/time or frequency,
The workshop accepts only novel, previously unpublished papers. Prospective
authors are encouraged to submit a 4-5 pages standard IEEE conference style
paper to this workshop. Accepted papers must be presented at the workshop.
Extended versions of some selected papers will be proposed for publication
in the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, special
issue on Radio Propagation, Channel Modeling and Wireless Channel Simulation
tools for Heterogeneous Networking Evaluation.

**** SUBMISSION DEADLINE: JANUARY 31, 2010 *******
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the last years, the increasing social awareness about the need for
containing energy consumption within sustainable rates has caught the
interest of both the industrial and academic communities. In this scenario
Internet, and more generally ICT, may play a twofold role, being both a
significant energy consumer and a potential actor in steering a more
clever overall usage of the energy resources.
Both aspects of the problem raise interesting scientific challenges and
require a comprehensive effort and inter-disciplinary research at all
levels of abstraction. The goal of this workshop is to bring together
people from different research areas, and provide a forum to exchange
ideas, discuss solutions, and share experiences among researchers,
professionals, and application developers both from industry and academia.
Original papers addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of
energy-awareness for Internet-based systems, and the design of distributed
systems for eco-sustainability are solicited. Topics of interest include
but are not limited to:
- Power-aware Internet applications
- Energy-efficient network architecture and protocols
- Power-aware middleware and software
- Resource management for power optimization
- Energy efficiency and Quality of Service
- Energy efficiency and reliability
- Power management and energy-efficient design
