CALL FOR PAPERS
MobiCPS 2010 - The 1st IEEE International Workshop on Mobile
Cyber-Physical Systems
http://www.cpschina.org/mobicps
In conjunction with UIC2010
Xi'an, China
26-29 October, 2010
We are currently on the brink of a revolutionary transformation from
stand-alone embedded systems to ubiquitous cyber-physical systems (CPS)
that bridge the virtual world of computing and communications and the
real world. Cyber-physical systems are tight integrations of
computation, networking, and physical objects, in which embedded devices
are networked to sense, monitor and control the physical world. It is
believed that CPS will transform how we interact with the physical world
just like the Internet transformed how we interact with one another. In
particular, there is a trend to build CPS upon wireless and mobile
networks as a consequence of unprecedented proliferation of these
technologies in recent years. In addition to wireless sensors and
actuators, the number of mobile devices that can support wirelessly
networked cyber-physical applications has exploded. Some usual examples
include smartphones, PDAs, autonomous robots, wearable computers, among

Sponsored by IEEE, IEEE CS, IEEE TCSC and ACM
Hangzhou, China, October 30 - November 1, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. INTRODUCTION
Computing and communication systems play key roles in modern IT
infrastructure, affecting every aspect of life, including services related
to health, banking, commerce, defense, education and entertainment. It has
been viewed that there are tremendously increasing demands for computing,
communication and storage systems since last decades. To fulfill such
requirements, modern IT infrastructures have been extended and scaled, which
brings various "green" related issues, such as energy consumption, heat
dissemination, greenhouse emission and resource total cost of ownership.
To make the fully efficient use of computing and communication systems and
reduce their environmental and social impact, green computing and
communication research has increasingly become a hot topic of interest for
the computer research and industry. The study of green computing and
communication attempts to alleviate this problem by delivering both high
performance and reduced power consumption, effectively maximizing total
system efficiency.
GreenCom 2010 is the next event of the series of International Conference on
Green Computing and Communications (GreenCom) after it has been held for 5
editions as a workshop or symposium, namely PerGrid-09 (Vancouver, Canada,

Island, Korea, October, 2007), Multisec-06 (San Diego, USA, December, 2006)
and Multisec-05 (Irvine, USA, December, 2005). It will be an exciting

Call for Papers
Special Issue of Ad Hoc Networks (Elsevier) on
Cross-Layer Design in Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks
For well over a decade, the international community has invested
significant
effort conducting research on ad hoc and sensor networks. These networks
show
promise to support the development of always-on services in next generation
mobile systems. Initially, it was natural to inherit the traditional
layered
network architecture in designing systems and services. More recently, the
need to support high performance applications while coping with the limited
node capabilities highlights the necessity of cross-layer design in these
networks. Cross-layer design offers new opportunities to exploit the
potential
offered by joint optimization of design parameters, satisfy QoS
requirements,
among others, that cannot be addressed by traditional architecture in a
satisfactory manner. However, at the current time, we lack a clear
understanding of the interactions among the layers, and a comprehensive
framework for cross-layer design in the network stack.
Scope of Contributions
The objective of this special issue is to bring together state-of-the-art
research contributions, tutorials, and position papers that address the key
aspects of cross layer design in ad hoc and sensor networks. Original
manuscripts describing completed and unpublished work not currently under
review by any other journal, magazine, or conference are solicited.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Architecture issues for cross-layer design in ad hoc and sensor networks
* Standardization issues related to quality-aware cross-layer design
* Performance optimization for cross-layer design of ad hoc and sensor
networks
* Cross-layer design issues for QoS provisioning in ad hoc and sensor
networks
* Cross-layer strategies in wireless sensor and actuator networks
* Application layer adaptation based on cross-layer notifications
* Interactions between routing/mobility management and congestion control
* Cross-layer optimization for energy, network lifetime, and capacity
* Cross-layer error and delay control
* Channel access algorithms for cross-layered ad hoc communication networks
* Cross-layer design of MIMO systems
* Multi-user detection in cross-layer design
* Design, implementation and test-bed/experimental results
* Software defined radio for ad hoc and sensor networks
* Cross-layer design for P2P streaming
* Cross-layer design for multimedia systems
* Cross layer issues in vehicular networking

---call for paper---
The traditional centralized wireless and mobile networks are mainly
based on single-hop architecture and rely on fixed infrastructure such
as base stations or access points. The proliferation and deployment of
radio access networks such as Wireless WANs, Wireless LANs, Wireless
PANs, ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor networks with distinguishing
characteristics of data rate, coverage range, power, mobility, and
prices will clearly lead to a need for seamless and ubiquitous access
across these various networks. Such an integrated heterogeneous
environment enables a user to access a particular network depending upon
the application needs and the types of radio access networks (RANs)
available. The heterogeneous multi-hop wireless and mobile networks, on
the other hand, provide unlimited mobility and greater flexibility but
introduce a number of challenges due to dynamic network topology. The
design of efficient and scalable protocols for existing multi-hop
wireless and mobile networks such as wireless and mobile ad hoc networks
continue to pose challenges at all the layers of networking stack.
Therefore, it is necessary to aim at heterogeneous architectures and
services that together provide seamless integration of single-hop as
well as multi-hop mobile ad hoc networks.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together the research community in
order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the
latest research and future research directions in heterogeneous
multi-hop wireless and mobile networks. We are seeking original and
previously unpublished research papers addressing theoretical and
application issues in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless mobile networks.
Scope
Topics related to heterogeneous, multi-hop, wireless and mobile networks
in the areas of:
* Multi-hop architectures and protocols for resource management
* Quality of services (QoS) delivery
* Seamless Mobility
* Robust and scalable routing protocols
* MAC protocols supporting mobility and vertical handover
* Self-configuration and synchronization
* Security
* Topology control and management
* Mobility models and location management
* Cross-layer design and interactions
* Modeling and performance evaluation
* Algorithms for localization and signal processing
* Implementation testbeds
* Operating systems and middleware
Organisers
* Mieso Denko, University of Guelph, Canada
* Waltenegus Dargie, Technical University of Dresden, Germany
* Anup Kumar, University of Louisville, USA
Important Dates
* Submission due: July 2, 2010 (Friday)
* Decision notification due: August 13, 2010 (Friday)
* Camera-ready and registration due: Aug 31, 2010 (Tuesday)

Overview
===========
The 6th International Symposium on Wireless sensor network Technologies
and Applications for Smart Space (WTA 2010) will be held in Gwangju,
Korea, December 9-11, 2010.
Smart Spaces (SS) represents an advanced communication environment
featuring daily-life objects that continuously involve and are focused
on final non-expert users. SS has rapidly emerged as an exciting new
paradigm that tends to include different active research fields such as
ubiquitous, grid, and P2P computing. SS environments have recently
raised tremendous interests in both the academic and the industrial
research communities as one of the most promising application fields for
pervasive computing services.
The WTA 2010 aims to address system and network issues for SS
communications. It will solicit both original research papers and review
articles that enhance the state-of-the-art in these fields, including
topics like effective context extraction and representation,
context-based service discovery, context-based service composition,
integration of legacy systems and services, security theory, business
models, and novel applications that are associated with SS utilization.
The papers will be peer reviewed by at least three independent reviewers
and will be selected on the basis of their quality and relevance to the
theme of this conference.
FutureTech 2010 is the next event in a series of highly successful
symposium on wireless sensor network technologies and applications for
SS (WTA), previously held as SH-10 (Busan, Korea, May 2010), SH-09
(Toronto, Canada, July 2009), SH-08 (Hainan, China, Dec. 2008), SH-07
(Jeju, Korea, Dec. 2007), IWSH-06 (Jeju, Korea, Nov. 2006).
