The International Conference on Management of Emergent Digital
EcoSystems (MEDES 2010)
In cooperation with ACM SIGAPP and IFIP WG 2.6
http://sigappfr.acm.org/MEDES/10/
October 26-29, 2010
Bangkok-Thailand
Description and Objectives
---------------------------
In the world of the Internet, the rapid growth and exponential use of
digital medias leads to the emergence of virtual environments namely
digital ecosystems composed of multiple and independent entities such as
individuals, organizations, services, software and applications sharing
one or several missions and focusing on the interactions and
inter-relationships among them. The digital ecosystem exhibits
self-organizing environments, thanks to the re-combination and evolution
of its "digital components", in which resources provided by each entity
are properly conserved, managed and used. The underlying resources
mainly comprehend data management, innovative services, computational
intelligence and self-organizing platforms. Due to the
multi-disciplinary nature of digital ecosystems
and their characteristics, they are highly complex to study and design.
This also leads to a poor understanding as to how managing resources
will empower digital ecosystems to be innovative and value-creating. The
application of Information Technologies has the potential to enable the
understanding of how entities request resources and ultimately interact
to create benefits and added-values, impacting business practices and
knowledge. These technologies can be improved through novel techniques,
models andmethodologies for fields such as data management, web
technologies, networking, security, human-computer interactions,
artificial intelligence, e-services and self-organizing systems to
support the establishment of digital ecosystems and manage their resources.
The International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital
EcoSystems (MEDES) aims to develop and bring together a diverse
community from academia, research laboratories and industry interested
in exploring the manifold challenges and issues related to resource
management of Digital Ecosystems and how current approaches and
technologies can be evolved and adapted to this end. The conference
seeks related original research papers, industrial papers and proposals
for demonstrations.

Paper Submission
----------------
Submissions must be in an electronic form as PDF format and should be
uploaded using the conference website. Submissions should be at most 8
ACM single-space printed pages. Papers that fail to comply with length
limit will be rejected. Submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 3
peer reviewers. Selection criteria will include: relevance,

Special Issue on “Wireless
and Network Security”
We are living in communication age and use of latest technology in
the field of computer communication is offering many new services but at the
same time raising various security issues. Securing the computer
communication
by keeping all the services available and cost effective is one of the major
challenges in this era. Mobility is something that will be the
requirement of each and every type of network technology in coming few
years.
So mobile communication adds more in the security issues and opens many
doors
for the attacker to attack. Researchers all over the world are developing
solution to close those doors from where attacks can be launched. In short
providing security in computer communication (especially wireless
communication) is one of the major challenges of the current age.
This Special Issue aims to publish high quality, original,
unpublished research papers covering all
aspects related to Wireless and Network Security. In addition,
this Special Issue collects extended versions of accepted and presented
papers

Third International Workshop on Green Communications
Miami, Florida, USA, 10 December 2010
http://www.green-communications.net/globecom10/
To be held in conjunction with the
IEEE Global Communications Conference (IEEE GLOBECOM 2010)
Miami, Florida, USA, 6 - 10 December 2010
*** Extended Paper Submission Deadline: 11 July 2010 ***
*********************************************************************
Objectives:
The steadily rising energy cost and the need to reduce the global
CO2 emission to protect our environment are today¹s economical and
ecological drivers for the emerging consideration of energy
consumption in all fields of communications. Triggered by network
operators experiencing energy cost as a significant new factor of
their calculation, researchers have started to investigate approaches
for reducing power consumption and manufacturers have started
offering energy-efficient network components. Also standards bodies,
such as the IEEE, are already developing standards for energy-
efficient protocols. While research and development in these areas
has recently gained momentum, the space of potential solutions is
still far from being explored.
The Third International Workshop on Green Communications will be held
in conjunction with the IEEE Global Communications Conference (IEEE
GLOBECOM 2010) and will bring together academic and industrial
researchers for discussing energy-efficient communications. After
two previous successful workshops on green communications at ICC'09
and GLOBECOM'09, it will continue to serve as a forum for addressing
research challenges between the already established conferences and
workshops covering energy efficiency for IT on one side and for
wireless sensor networks on the other side.
Topics of Interest:
We solicit contributions that report recent results, share
experiences, or address research challenges in energy-efficient
network protocols and devices and in energy management. Particularly,
we want to identify and address issues with a very high potential for
significant energy saving, including access network infrastructures,
home networks, and terminal equipment, but excluding energy
efficiency for IT (specifically data centers), sensor networks,
mobile ad-hoc networks, and mesh networks.
Areas of interest include but are not limited to
* Energy-efficient protocols and protocol extensions
* Energy-efficient transmission technologies
* Cross-layer optimizations
* Energy-efficient technology for network equipment
* Energy-efficient switch and base station architectures
* Low-power sleep mode
* Exploitation of passive network elements
* Energy-efficient communications management
* Architectures and frameworks
* Hierarchical and distributed techniques
* Remote power management for terminals
* Context-based power management
* Measurement and profiling of energy consumption

Dear All
*Submission deadline extended to July July 11 (Sunday) 23:59 EST (New
York Time) (FIRM)*
The U-NET organization chairs are delighted to invite you to submit a
paper to the second edition of the workshop on User-provided
Networking (U-NET 2010).
The second edition is co-located with IEEE GLOBECOM 2010, and will take
place in Miami,USA, December 6th 2010.
The workshop encompasses peer-review paper submission and a discussion
panel with representatives from Ericsson Research USA, Huawei Research
Germany and University College of London. Further details below.
Dates
* Paper submissions due: *July 11th 2010*
* Paper accept notifications: August 13th 2010
* Camera ready due: August 31st 2010
URL:http://ian.inescporto.pt/unet2010/
*Motivation*
Wireless technologies are heavily being used as last-hop of fixed
networks, as well as starting to be applied to the backhaul. Such
flexibility, inherent to wireless technologies, is giving rise to new
types of networks which are spread by means of the end-user. Their
potential is not explored in terms of new Internet horizons, potential
business opportunities, nor in terms of social interaction: user-centric
wireless networking models, where cooperation is the key topic, can
contribute to the intensification of the phenomenon that is today the
core of the so-called Web2.0.
The second edition of the U-NET workshop aims at promoting a debate on
opportunities and challenges related with user-provided networks, both
in technical and in business terms. Such debate is highly relevant as of
today since user-provided networking seems to have the potential to
provide a paradigm shift in Internet communication models, given that:
i) such novel functionality allows local-loop networks to operate in a
completely autonomic way; ii) the end-user becomes a provider of
Internet services (e.g. connectivity) based upon cooperation incentives
or rewards, as well as based upon his/her own mobility patterns and
social behavior.
The workshop program will include presentations of peer-reviewed papers
and a discussion panel with guests from industry and academia. We
envision U-NET as a forum aiming to ignite a debate concerning technical
challenges and impact (negatively or positively) that user-provided
networking may have on Internet communication models.
*Topics*
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Modeling user incentives
* Impact on Internet design
* UPN challenges and opportunities for access providers
* Trust models, incentives to share broadband access
* Social mobility modelling
* User-centric mobility management
* Self-organization
* Wireless cooperation

The advances in wireless technologies and mobile devices have enabled
the realization of a wide range of wireless networking opportunities.
The coexistence of wireless heterogeneous networks has been widely
recognized, and it has become more and more common that new mobile
devices get equipped with multiple and heterogeneous wireless interfaces.
Furthermore, the recent advances in software-defined and cognitive radio
technologies promise even more diversity and heterogeneity. This brings
about a lot of opportunities and challenges for mobile wireless
networking.
With the emerging wireless technologies, mobility has more generic
meaning than just node movement as in the traditional sense. It also
means that when the operational environment changes (such as frequency
and power), a node or the network adapts to the environmental changes,
which requires the cognitive capability. On one hand, it is of critical
importance that seamless, low latency and transparent services are
provided to the users, via potentially multiple heterogeneous wireless
technologies or opportunistic spectrum access involved during the
course of node movement or environmental changes. Environment cognizance,
spectrum-aware mobility management, and vertical handoff become critical
components in the solution space. On the other hand, host and network
mobility also affects the performance of network protocols significantly,
while at the same time allows opportunistic interconnections of
heterogeneous networks, which in turn makes mobility adaptability
an important design issue. This asks the design of wireless
architectures, protocols, spectrum management, and mobility management
mechanisms to be revisited.
Cohesive with the main theme of Globecom 2010 --- "moving into the age
of mobile interactivity", this workshop welcomes original submissions from
both researchers and practitioners that explore recent advances in
architecture, system, protocol, modeling, and testbed design, as well as
emerging applications and standards to enable seamless mobility and
transparency in wireless networks. Topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:
- Architecture, system, and protocol design for seamless roaming support
in wireless networks
- Spectrum cognition and agility associated with mobility
- Vertical handoff and seamless integration of heterogeneous networks
- Location tracking, positioning, and address management
- Mobility modeling and theoretical/experimental validation
- Mobility impact on routing, resource/power/QoS management
- Adaptive and resilient protocols for seamless mobility support at
all layers, as well as cross-layer approaches
- Security and privacy issues under mobility and network access
- Emerging standards and applications on mobility
- Simulation/testbed tools and experimental measurements

IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, sponsored by
IEEE Communications Society, is a major annual international conference
organized with the objective of bringing together researchers,
developers, and practitioners from academia and industry working in all
areas of consumer communications and networking.
IEEE CCNC was organized specifically to help the consumer electronics
industry drive the advance of the numerous wireless and wireline
communications technologies that will one day provide on-demand access
to both entertainment and information anytime, anywhere, regardless of
time or location. This includes a detailed analysis of nearly every
technological area ranging from cognitive and peer-to-peer networking to
the designer services and tools used to ensure ease-of-use, security and
stunning interactivity.
This year we are pleased to have ten satellite workshops, which will
provide an ideal forum for discussion of research and development within
particular areas of consumer communications. It also provides the
opportunity for the presentation of focussed or ongoing research issues
