Authors are invited to submit papers describing original, previously
unpublished
work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or a
journal.
Full papers (up to 8 camera-ready pages, 10 pt font in IEEE format)
should present
novel perspectives within the general scope of the conference. Short
papers are
an opportunity to present preliminary or interim results and are limited
to 4
camera-ready pages. Short papers will be presented in a poster session.
Both full
and short papers are published in the proceedings and IEEE Xplore. All
papers must
include title, complete contact information for all authors, abstract, and
keywords on the cover page. IEEE reserves the right to remove papers from
IEEE Xplore that are not presented at the conference.
Paper submission:
Papers must registered on EDAS and submitted in PDF format.
Detailed submission instructions are available at the conference website.
Direct your questions to the
Program Chair, Anura Jayasumana <Anura.Jayasumana(a)Colostate.edu> or the
Program Co-chair, Damla Turgut <turgut(a)eecs.ucf.edu>.
Workshops:
A number of workshops will be co-located with the conference. Workshop
papers will
be published in the LCN proceedings and IEEE Xplore. Information on
workshops,
submission deadlines and all other details will be posted on the
conference website.

**** Submission Deadline --- February 17, 2012 ****
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The diffusion of lightweight, powerful portable devices, also
enriched with a
variety of sensing capabilities, is enabling new ways for users'
communication,
and laying the foundation for realizing the ubiquitous networking idea.
Acting
either as the main communication mode or as complement to existing
mobile
network infrastructures, opportunistic networking can leverage the
mobility of
end users and enhance their communication capabilities. The
opportunistic
exploitation of extemporary contacts among the users of the network
paves the
way to a number of applications but also poses new and challenging
problems to
the networking research community. The AOC 2012 workshop aims at
serving as a
meeting point for people working in the area and a forum for
exchanging ideas,
discussing solutions, and sharing experiences among researchers,
professionals,
and application developers, both from industry and academia. As
with the
previous five editions of the AOC workshop series, the scope of
this year's
workshop will remain on general issues related to opportunistic
networking and
computing. Yet, AOC 2012 will have a primary interest in new
directions of
opportunistic communications, such as service composition techniques,
scenarios
of co-existence with infrastructure networks, and insights to their
operation
coming from other disciplines such as game theory and cognitive
psychology. The
workshop will solicit original papers addressing theoretical and
practical
aspects of autonomic and opportunistic communications but also papers
describing
prototype implementations and deployments.
Topics of interest for AOC 2012 include, but are not limited to:
* Routing, transport, and reliability issues
* Techniques for data dissemination and replication
* Applications and middleware support, mobile social networking
applications
* Mobility models and statistical analysis of mobility traces
* Context and social awareness mechanisms and algorithms
* Co-existence of opportunistic networks with infrastructure mobile
wireless
networks
* Service composition in autonomic and opportunistic networks
* Cognition-driven information processing and decision making
* Performance modelling, scaling laws, and fundamental limits for
autonomic
and opportunistic communications
* Game-theoretic insights to the operation of autonomic and opportunistic
networks
* Participatory and urban sensing in autonomic and opportunistic networks
* Trust, security, and reputation
* Autonomic and opportunistic communication testbeds and prototypes,
measurement data from real experiments
* Socio-economic models for autonomic and opportunistic communications
PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION

Papers
----------
Authors are invited to submit full papers presenting new research
related to the
theory and practice of mobile computing and wireless networking that
pertain to
layer two or above of the OSI protocol stack. Areas of interest include,
but are
not limited to, the following.
* Architectures, protocols, and algorithms for various wireless and mobile
networks, such as wireless LANs, wireless mesh networks, cellular data
networks,
delay-tolerant networks, mobile ad hoc networks, sensor networks,
personal area
networks, and vehicular networks
* System design, implementation, and evaluation of wireless systems and
mobile
applications
* Real-world measurements and characterization
* Performance-oriented design and evaluation focused on networks and mobile
applications
* Testbed design and implementation
* Cross-layer design for mobile and wireless networks ranging from the
PHY layer
to applications
* Modeling, simulation, emulation and measurement of mobile systems
* Networks involving novel technologies such as UWB, MIMO, directional
antennas,
software radios, visible light communications and underwater networking
* Architectures, algorithms and protocols for dynamic spectrum usage, white
spaces, and cognitive networks
* Techniques that deal with low power and energy limitations
* Operating system and middleware support for mobile computing and
networking
* Security, privacy, and trustworthiness of mobile and wireless systems
* Emerging topics, e.g., robotic swarms, 60 GHz networking, social
networking
and novel applications enabled by mobile and wireless networking systems
* Integration and interworking of wired and wireless networks
* Foundational underpinnings of wireless networks
MobiCom 2012 will be a diverse conference, and we strongly encourage the
submission of mobile systems, experimental and theoretical papers. The
program
committee will evaluate each paper using metrics that are appropriate
for the
topic area. For example, a systems or experimental paper in the protocol
area
will be evaluated based on the innovations in the protocol design, practical
implementation, and realistic evaluation, whereas a more theoretical
paper may
be evaluated mostly based on innovation within the design of the
algorithm and
its provable properties. At the same time, the evaluation of wireless
and mobile
networking technologies is challenging because of the significant impact
that
the physical environment has on performance. For this reason, all papers
must
carefully describe and justify the evaluation methodology that is used and
identify its strengths and weaknesses.
The program committee will referee all papers, and accepted papers will be
published in the conference proceedings.
Challenges Papers
-------------------
The conference also strongly encourages the submission of short papers
in the
field of mobile computing and wireless networking that present
revolutionary new
ideas or that challenge existing assumptions prevalent among the research
community. These Challenges Papers should provide stimulating ideas or
visions
that may open up exciting avenues and influence the direction of future
research. Descriptions of new products or evolution of existing work are not
appropriate topics for papers in this category. While an exhaustive
evaluation
of the proposed ideas is not necessary, insight and in-depth
understanding of
the issues is expected. Challenges Papers will be reviewed by the MobiCom
program committee and will be part of the technical program and
published in ACM
MobiCom proceedings. They should be submitted using the same submission
procedure adopted for the full papers. The title of these papers must
start with
the word "Challenge:" i.e., "Challenge: Rest of the Title."
Submission Instructions
-------------------------
All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Authors should
prepare a
PDF version of their full paper. Papers must
- be no longer than 12 pages (8 pages for "Challenges" papers),
- be in font size no smaller than 10 points,
- have pages in double column format with each column having
dimensions 9.25
inches × 3.33 inches, a space of 0.33 inches between the two columns,
and with
no more than 55 lines of text per column, and
- fit properly on US letter-sized paper (8.5 inches × 11 inches).
All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality through
double-blind
reviewing, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the
reviewers.
Detailed instructions to authors on preparing a double-blind manuscript
will be
posted here shortly. Authors' names must not appear anywhere in the
paper or in
the PDF file. Submitted papers must be original work, and a paper with
substantial similarity must neither be already published, nor be
currently under
review for publication in any other venue. Please direct any questions
about the
paper submission process to the Program Co-Chairs at
mobicom_pcchairs(a)acm.org.
Best Paper Award
------------------
All papers will be considered for the Best Paper Award. The program
committee
will select a number of candidates for the award among accepted papers. The
winner will be selected at the conference, considering both the paper
and the
presentation. The winner will receive a plaque and a cash award.
Important Dates
----------------

*3rd Green Wireless Communications and Networks Workshop (GreeNet)*
Broadband wireless mobile communications data traffic is rapidly growing
to provide data services for devices such as tablets, smartphones and
laptops. However, for many operators, growth in traffic is not match by
the same growth in revenue. There is an increasing awareness of the
environmental impact of both wireless networks and the Internet in
general. Many operators have thus made commitments to reduce the Carbon
Dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with their networks.
The objective of this workshop is to build on the success of the first
two Greenet workshops to discuss these issues in detail. One major area
where advances may be made is in moving towards more energy efficient
network deployments which employ a mix of network components, such as
macro-cell base stations, relays, picocells and femtocells to provide
coverage and support high traffic demands. A second important avenue of
research relates to new technologies and algorithms that can be deployed
within the radio of each device to reduce energy consumption. This
workshop particularly encourages contributions with blue sky thinking on
how future technologies can be substantially more energy efficient than
current systems.
We invite five page paper submissions not previously published and are
not currently under review for publication from researchers and
practitioners active in the field of Green Wireless Communications and
Networks covering (but not limited to) the following topics:
1. Energy Efficient Network design
- Efficient network architectures
- Heterogeneous networks
- Network traffic engineering and QoS support
- Network operation and management
2. Enabling technologies
- Physical layer techniques
- MAC protocols
- Cross-layer optimization
- Cognitive networks
3. Network components and devices
- Low power devices
- User terminal designs
- Base station hardware architectures
- Power management for user terminals and network devices
4. Applications and services of wireless technologies
- Wireless smart grid and energy management concepts
- Wireless networking for home working/smart office
- Machine-to-machine communications
