Abstract registration Jan 04, 2013 Submission Deadline Jan 11, 2013 Scope of the Workshop: The scope of the CoCoNet4 workshop is to bring together a highly qualified group of people with interest in cooperative and cognitive wireless networks. Cooperation is becoming a major subject in research in the wireless communication community as it has been identified as one of the underlying principles for future wireless communication systems. Cooperation, altruistic or non-altruistic, is the basis to break up the cellular concept and enrich it by multi hop, peer-to-peer, or grid functionalities. The workshop will highlight the newest trends in this emerging area, complementing it with first practical implementationsand demonstrations in this field. New technologies and concepts such as network coding and mobile clouds are the driving forces for cooperative and cognitive networks. Besides the technical insights, the workshop will encourage the participants to discuss among each other. The workshop is seeking papers for oral presentations and papers which will be presented in poster sessions possibly accompanied with demonstrations or test-beds. Keynote Speech: We are pleased to announce that Professor Gerhard Fettweis from TU Dresden, Germany will give the keynote at the CoCoNet 5 workshop. Doctoral students working in areas related to wireless, mobile and multimedia networking are solicited to submit an extended abstract comprising a summary of their research findings, work in progress and planned research. The forum will be a platform for PhD students to interact both with their peers as well as experienced researchers from industry. The forum will be organized as a poster session and will include a '1-minute madness' introduction by each student. Current Ph.D. students are encouraged to submit extended abstracts. The Ph.D. student should be the sole author, although contributions of the advisor and others may be acknowledged in the extended abstract. Submissions will be reviewed to ensure quality and relevance. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to attend WoWMoM 2013 and present their poster at the PhD Forum. The best presentation at the Forum will receive an award, and there is likely to be travel assistance for some students. Accepted extended abstracts will appear in conference proceedings. Extended Abstract Submission: Ph.D. students are invited to submit two-page extended abstracts that describe current research and potential contributions to theory and innovation in mobile and wireless computing/communications, multimedia on mobile networks and closely related areas. Submissions must be received by no later than March 12, 2013. Extended abstracts should include the author's name, affiliation, and email address. The exponential growth in deployment of these technologies has made them large-scale energy consumers. Therefore, new architectures, technologies and systems are being developed and deployed to make computing and networked system more energy efficient. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, these technologies are at the center of the on-going revolution in next-generation 'smart' and sustainable energy systems. They measure, monitor and control energy systems such as the smart grid; inform and shape human demand; aid in the prediction, deployment, storage and control of energy resources; and determine how utilities, generators, regulators, and consumers measure, analyze, and collectively control system elements. The fourth International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM e-Energy), to be held in Berkeley, CA in May 2013, aims to be the premier venue for researchers working in the broad areas of computing and communication for smart energy systems (including the smart grid), and in energy-efficient computing and communication systems. By bringing together researchers in a high-quality single-track conference with significant opportunities for individual and small-group interaction, it will serve as a major forum for presentations and discussions that will shape the future of this area. We solicit high-quality papers in the area of computing and communication for the Smart Grid and energy-efficient computing and communications. We welcome submissions describing theoretical advances as well as system design, implementation and experimentation. ACM e-Energy is committed to a fair, timely, and thorough review process providing authors of submitted papers with sound and detailed feedback. Instead of looking at them separately, it is useful to arrange a venue for the researchers and practitioners in these two fields to come together and interact. This workshop aims to build this cooperation. Energy Efficiency in Wireless Networks: According to a GESI study, the ICT sector contributes around 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions. To increase the competitiveness, energy efficiency (E2) must also be a design criterion of the network and service architectures. Flexible networks that adapt their capacity to the requirements can lead to significant energy savings. Novel networking paradigms need to be introduced to assure that all components are used with maximum utilization. E2 network architectures will be the cross-layer, cognitive and cooperative aggregation of techniques and mechanisms to provide a communication infrastructure where the energy consumption is minimized while guaranteeing the grade of service required by the applications. Along with energy efficiency, spectrum utilization is to be optimized and radiation is to be minimized. During this era, there has been a tremendous growth in this field with many new techniques and standards have been developed for the ease and safety of the passengers. Now, the passengers during travelling can take smart decisions by knowing the outside environment variables such as traffic conditions, density of the vehicles in a particular region, duration of traffic lights in a particular areas, etc. Moreover, these passengers can download and upload the heavy contents while travelling with the aid of the already deployed Road Side Unit (RSUs) which are connected to Internet to provide various services to the end users. Modern Vehicles equipped with sensor nodes monitor and collect the data in sparse and dense regions which can be processed for the benefit of community of peoples, e.g., health monitoring and diagnostic systems, safety alarms, intelligent transport systems, and environment monitoring. The vehicles during movement, equipped with sensor nodes, can also collect the data from human body and that data can be processed in collaboration with the other vehicles for various medical purposes. In this case, VANETs can also be used in Body Sensor Networks (BSNs). However, as a new technology emerges, it throws new challenges to the research community. Although there exist many solutions of different kinds in the relevant areas, there is still a requirement of more efficient solutions which can be used in wide variety of applications. Many industrial and academic institutions have already geared up to provide solutions for the benefits of the community. Moreover, there are many constraints that have to be resolved before providing any standard solution. Some examples of the constraints are; mobility of the nodes, connectivity in sparse and dense regions, failure of nodes, network traffic congestion and interference, etc. Submission is solicited from researchers across the globe in the following issues (but not limited to these): - Efficient route selection in sparse and dense regions in presence of mobility of the nodes - Optimized cluster selection on the road - Optimized access point deployment for better coverage and uninterrupted services to all the vehicles on the road - Security during the data dissemination - Cache management for peer to peer (P2P) information sharing - Load balancing in VANET/Sensor networks - Optimized Service selection and resource discovery - Providing QoS to various services - Solutions to various critical applications such as health monitoring system, safety alarms etc. - Channel allocation and selection in VANETs *Submission Guidelines* Authors can see manuscript preparation guideline here: http://www.springer.com/business+%26+management/business+information+system… Authors are required to submit papers as an all-in-one PDF file to any of the Guest Editors (CC to all is preferred).
