To meet these new requirements, there have been extensive R&D activities in the academia, industry, and government agencies around the world. Notably, in future digital cities and their connected vehicles with on-board computation, sensing and storage capabilities, the paradigm will shift from vehicles being consumer of the network to vehicles being actor of the network. Accordingly, there is a need for innovative solutions in the interdisciplinary approaches involving vehicular communications, sensing, and computing. The VCSC workshop aims to cover all related topics of intra/inter-vehicular communications, sensing on the road, and computing to support safer and more efficient driving. The component technology includes reliable and scalable system architecture, interworking with the existing network infrastructure, fusion of local and remote sensing data, new antenna and physical-layer technologies, information dissemination in vehicular networks, privacy and security, and cloud computing to realize these applications. During this era, there has been a tremendous growth in this field with many new techniques and standards have been developed for the ease and safety of the passengers. Now, the passengers during travelling can take smart decisions by knowing the outside environment variables such as traffic conditions, density of the vehicles in a particular region, duration of traffic lights in a particular areas, etc. Moreover, these passengers can download and upload the heavy contents while travelling with the aid of the already deployed Road Side Unit (RSUs) which are connected to Internet to provide various services to the end users. Modern Vehicles equipped with sensor nodes monitor and collect the data in sparse and dense regions which can be processed for the benefit of community of peoples, e.g., health monitoring and diagnostic systems, safety alarms, intelligent transport systems, and environment monitoring. The vehicles during movement, equipped with sensor nodes, can also collect the data from human body and that data can be processed in collaboration with the other vehicles for various medical purposes. In this case, VANETs can also be used in Body Sensor Networks (BSNs). However, as a new technology emerges, it throws new challenges to the research community. Although there exist many solutions of different kinds in the relevant areas, there is still a requirement of more efficient solutions which can be used in wide variety of applications. Many industrial and academic institutions have already geared up to provide solutions for the benefits of the community. Moreover, there are many constraints that have to be resolved before providing any standard solution. Each grant is worth of NOK 3000 (approx. US$500). In particular, both wireless sensors operating in relation with transportation systems are instrumental in the development of applications, including e.g., parking monitoring, real-time traffic information, routing, warning as well as decision-making aided transportation. The lesson learned constructing such applications is that transport systems are particularly exposed to environmental perturbations, unreliable wireless medium of communication, high mobility-driven instability. This poses extraordinary challenges to both the designers and the research community who attempt to provide sensor-enabled transportation systems as a first upon advanced urban, transport planning & smart cities.
