========================================================
**** EXTENDED Submission Deadline: April 14, 2012 23:59:00 EDT ****
Recent advances in wireless communications and automotive electronics have
enabled many emerging vehicular applications that can enhance driver and
passenger safety, better perceive road and traffic conditions, reduce the
human efforts in driving, and provide broadband access and infotainment
services for passengers. To meet these new requirements, there have been
extensive R&D activities in the academia, industry, and government agencies
around the world. Notably, in future digital cities and their connected
vehicles with on-board computation, sensing and storage capabilities, the
paradigm will shift from vehicles being consumer of the network to vehicles
being actor of the network. Accordingly, there is a need for innovative
solutions in the interdisciplinary approaches involving vehicular
communications, sensing, and computing.
The VCSC workshop aims to cover all related topics of intra/inter-vehicular
communications, sensing on the road, and computing to support safer and
more efficient driving. The component technology includes reliable and
scalable system architecture, interworking with the existing network
infrastructure, fusion of local and remote sensing data, new antenna and
physical-layer technologies, information dissemination in vehicular
networks, privacy and security, and cloud computing to realize these
applications. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Vehicular sensors networks and sensing technologies
- System architecture for emerging vehicular applications
- Drive-through Internet
- New physical layer technologies
- MAC and routing protocols for vehicular communications
- Antenna technologies (SISO, MIMO)
- Intra-vehicular technologies (CAN, FlexRay)
- Heterogeneous infrastructure planning
- Security and privacy
- Cognitive radio technologies for vehicular communications
- Heterogeneous sensing data fusion for better perception
- V2V and V2I content distribution
- Vehicular cloud computing
- Interaction between vehicles and mobile devices
- Interaction between intra- and inter-vehicular devices
- Green communication and networks
- Prototype and field tests

*Special Issue on
Critical Applications in Vehicular Ad Hoc/Sensor Networks
URL:* http://staff.iium.edu.my/sakib/CFP_VSN_TSJ2012.pdf
*Theme and Scope
*
For the past few decades, Vehicular ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) have emerged
as a key technology serving community of peoples in various applications.
During this era, there has been a tremendous growth in this field with many
new techniques and standards have been developed for the ease and safety of
the passengers. Now, the passengers during travelling can take smart
decisions by knowing the outside environment variables such as traffic
conditions, density of the vehicles in a particular region, duration of
traffic lights in a particular areas, etc. Moreover, these passengers can
download and upload the heavy contents while travelling with the aid of the
already deployed Road Side Unit (RSUs) which are connected to Internet to
provide various services to the end users.
Modern Vehicles equipped with sensor nodes monitor and collect the data in
sparse and dense regions which can be processed for the benefit of
community of peoples, e.g., health monitoring and diagnostic systems,
safety alarms, intelligent transport systems, and environment monitoring.
The vehicles during movement, equipped with sensor nodes, can also collect
the data from human body and that data can be processed in collaboration
with the other vehicles for various medical purposes. In this case, VANETs
can also be used in Body Sensor Networks (BSNs).
However, as a new technology emerges, it throws new challenges to the
research community. Although there exist many solutions of different kinds
in the relevant areas, there is still a requirement of more efficient
solutions which can be used in wide variety of applications. Many
industrial and academic institutions have already geared up to provide
solutions for the benefits of the community. Moreover, there are many
constraints that have to be resolved before providing any standard
solution. Some examples of the constraints are; mobility of the nodes,
connectivity in sparse and dense regions, failure of nodes, network traffic
congestion and interference, etc.
Submission is solicited from researchers across the globe in the following
issues (but not limited to these):
- Efficient route selection in sparse and dense regions in presence of
mobility of the nodes
- Optimized cluster selection on the road
- Optimized access point deployment for better coverage and uninterrupted
services to all the vehicles on the road
- Security during the data dissemination
- Cache management for peer to peer (P2P) information sharing
- Load balancing in VANET/Sensor networks
- Optimized Service selection and resource discovery
- Providing QoS to various services
- Solutions to various critical applications such as health monitoring
system, safety alarms etc.
- Channel allocation and selection in VANETs

CALL FOR PAPERS
The advancement in sensing, embedded computing, and wireless
communication has accelerated the progress of adopting sensor networks
to form Body Area Networks (BodyNets).
BodyNets integrate and deploy wireless sensors, RFID tags, and other
pervasive devices within and around human bodies for constructing
diverse and practical systems for
physiological monitoring, human computer interaction, and provision of
entertainment. This conference will explore and explain the scope and
challenges of designing,
building, and deploying BodyNets. In this regard, the conference aims to
establish a forum to exchange ideas, discuss practices, raise awareness,
and share experiences
among researchers and practitioners in the field of computer science,
electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, medicine, and other
disciplines in both academia
and industry. This conference also allows authors to present new and
emerging trends to address the technical, social, system and application
issues related to BodyNets.
The Conference continues its tradition of being the premier forum for
presentation of results on cutting-edge research in BodyNets. While the
mission of the conference is
to share novel basic research ideas as well as experimental applications
in the BodyNets area in addition to identifying new directions for
future research and development
the new scientific topics such as nano communication networks,
bio-inspired networks, molecular networks, etc. will be considered.
BodyNets 2012 will give researchers a
unique opportunity to share their perspectives with others interested in
the various aspects from molecular to micro level communication to novel
applications in medicine, gaming to automobile industry. The conference
consists of four symposia that cover a broad range of research aspects.
In addition, the program will include three outstanding keynote speakers
from academia and industry. A panel session on “Nano communications
networks: from theory to practical applications” and an industrial track
will surely provoke thoughtful discussions. There will also be two
tutorials given free of charge to all BodyNets 2012 attendees. We hope
that the conference proceedings will serve as a valuable reference to
researchers and developers in the area.

CALL FOR PAPERS
WSN4ITS 2012
The 1st International IEEE Workshop on
Wireless Sensor Networks for Intelligent Transportation Systems
http://cedric.cnam.fr/wsn4its
in conjunction with IEEE iThings, IEEE/ACM GreenCom, IEEE CPSCOm
at Besancon, France,
September 11th-14th, 2012
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The WSN4ITS workshop aims at sharing theoretical, experimental and
operational results in the development of wireless sensors for intelligent
transport systems. In particular, both wireless sensors operating in
relation with transportation systems are instrumental in the development of
applications, including e.g., parking monitoring, real-time traffic
information, routing, warning as well as decision-making aided
transportation. The lesson learned constructing such applications is
that transport systems are particularly exposed to environmental
perturbations, unreliable wireless medium of communication, high
mobility-driven instability. This poses extraordinary challenges to
both the designers and the research community who attempt to provide
sensor-enabled transportation systems as a first upon advanced urban,
transport planning & smart cities.
Novel papers are invited from both academic and industrial research
environments, describing theoretical or empirical results as well as
in-depth user studies on transport networks and sensor topics together
towards smart cities, including but not limited to:
* Wireless sensors and actuators for enhanced transportation,
* Transport, space planning and optimization,
* Green and smart cities, multi-modal and green transportation,
* Parking monitoring and traffic handling,
* Simulation, real-world testbeds and commercial experiences,
* Wireless communication, routing, aggregating,
* Smart Phone and driver assistance.
