CALL FOR PAPERS
MONAMI 2012 OConS Workshop
Workshop on Open Connectivity Services for the Future Internet
26 September 2012
Hamburg, Germany
One of the consequences of the Future Internet is the need for better,
yet more flexible, connectivity services. These need to adapt to both
the requirements of the current applications, policies from the
corresponding actors and stakeholders and corresponding networking
context. The currently available alternatives are rather rigid and thus
do not fulfill the aforementioned challenges and needs. The connectivity
embraces various levels and layers, and can refer to either the access
part of the network as well as the end-to-end paths which shall be
established and managed.
This problem is being analyzed in the context of the Scalable and
Adaptive Internet Solutions (SAIL) project, in particular within the
Open Connectivity Services workpackage, with a special emphasis on the
relationship of connectivity with Information Centric Networking and
Cloud Networking.
This workshop considers, among others, the following aspects:
- Architectures and frameworks to handle connectivity for the Future
Internet
- Testbeds and prototyping related activities
- Security for connectivity services
- Evaluation of connectivity services to be used over Wireless Mesh
Networks and DTNs
- Connectivity services for Information Centric Networking
- Connectivity services for Cloud Computing

All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three independent
reviewers, including a TPC member to ensure high quality and relevance
to the topics of the workshop. All accepted papers will be published in
the Springer LNICST series and then be included in major article
indexing services.

CALL FOR PAPERS
-------------------------
Capacity Sharing Workshop
-------------------------
co-located with CoNEXT 2012, December 10, 2012, Nice, France.
Internet data traffic continues to grow rapidly. The challenge that operators
face, especially in the mobile Internet, is to support more subscribers with
higher bandwidth demands.
Therefore, operators need to seek for new technologies to efficiently utilize
the available network resources, in particular, this concerns resource
allocation and flow management. In wireless networks, the problem is
particularly relevant due to the inherently limited resources, which render a
simple "throwing bandwidth at the problem" solution impossible. The higher
rate of optical technology in access networks introduces the potential for
capacity sharing problems to move closer to the core, while passive optical
networks move sharing problems closer to the end-user (more like cable and
radio access networks). Data centers typically employ yet another type of
network with different characteristics -- and different tools for capacity
sharing.
Addressing this topic correctly is not trivial as there are different
interests to consider: operators naturally want to be able exercise control
on how the network is used, avoid service disruptions and account for network
usage. Users are interested to use different applications and expect a
certain level of service quality, consistent experience etc. Many
applications today are provided by so-called over-the-top (OTT) providers --
in conjunction with web-services, smart-phone applications etc. These
applications and the corresponding platforms are important drivers for
innovation and sources of revenue -- although there is controversy over
whether enough revenue is directed into capacity growth. Still, application
providers are interested in their application working with sufficient
quality. In addition, there is regulation that can impose additional
requirements in some markets, such as availability requirements, network
neutrality etc.
The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers in the area of
transport protocols, system designers of fixed and mobile access networks,
and their applications to advance the state of research on capacity sharing.
We solicit contributions on the state-of-the-art, results of ongoing
research, open issues, trends and new ideas.

Wireless communication for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is a
promising technology to
improve safety and security for all transport modes, to reduce traffic
congestion, to optimize
the use of existing infrastructures (road, rail maritime, fluvial) and
support information services
in vehicles with the general purpose of reducing the impact of transport
on the environment. The
development of sustainable mobility is a key challenge for the
development of urban areas. A new
era of vehicular technology that includes vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and
vehicle-to-infrastructure
(V2I) communication is already there in the public transport domain and
this should be generalized.
This era will be driven by both (pre-competitive) public-sector and
private-sector funding. Safety-
related applications are not only taken into consideration, but
non-safety multimedia content
providers are also becoming a new topic of research. Key players in the
industry, such as automotive
companies, public transport operators, railway industries and government
agencies, are investing
heavily in the advanced research and development of many ITS
technologies and applications. This
research effort primarily focuses on the system development and
standardization of telematics.
During recent ITS developments, transportation telematics techniques
have exhibited much progress,
e.g., interaction between vehicles and the infrastructure for delivering
services such as road-side
assistance, automatic crash notification, concierge assistance and
vehicle condition reports. These
progresses are also really important in the public transport domain
(buses, metro, trains, tramways)
for which V2V and V2I for safety and non safety applications are a key
component for the exploitation
but also for reducing energy consumption. A number of IEEE 802.11p-like
equipment prototypes have been
built, and several technical reports based on field trials have
demonstrated the lack of cutting-edge
techniques to improve system performance. Furthermore, all these
applications require accurate and
reliable positioning using GNSS solutions alone or enhanced with
map-matching and sensors fusion.
Technology and applications for ITS and telematics design are rapidly
emerging, and there is a critical
need to bring together professional researchers, intelligent engineers,
academia, industry, standard
committees, the private sector and the public sector to exchange new
ideas. This conference aims to
spur research progress by serving as a forum in which both academia and
industry can share experiences
and report original work regarding all aspects of vehicular
communication, e.g., Vehicular Ad hoc Networks
(VANETs), cooperative systems, information dissemination, road and rail
safety, information and emergency
services, etc. Our primary goal is to promote meaningful research in the
cross-layered design of
architectures, algorithms and applications for vehicular communication
environments in all transport modes.

1. INTRODUCTION
The physical things and the human society have formed into the world we
live in. However, the emergence of information technologies enables a
new infrastructure for a technical, economic and social revolution,
which have changed the world we are used to. Cyber-physical systems
couple the cyber aspects of computing and communications with the
physical aspects of dynamics that must abide by the laws of physics.
Social computing has become more widely known because of proliferation
of online social networking in recent years. With the advent of
ubiquitous sensing, future social networks will become cyber-physical,
combining measured elements of the physical world. The convergence of
computational and physical processes as well as human's social behaviors
exhibits a variety of complicated characteristics, which leads to a lot
of challenges.
The 2012 IEEE International Conference on Cyber, Physical, and Social
Computing (CPSCom 2012) will provide a high-profile, leading-edge forum
for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to present state-of-art
advances and innovations in theoretical foundations, systems,
infrastructure, tools, testbeds, and applications for the CPSCom, as
well as to identify emerging research topics and define the future.
