The International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor
Networks (IPSN) is a leading, single-track, annual forum on research
in wireless embedded sensing systems. IPSN brings together researchers
from academia, industry, and government to present and discuss recent
advances in both theoretical and experimental research. Its scope
includes signal and image processing, information and coding theory,
databases and information management, distributed algorithms, networks
and protocols, wireless communications, collaborative objects and the
Internet of Things, machine learning, mobile and social sensing, and
embedded systems design. Of special interest are contributions at the
confluence of a multiple of these areas.
The conference features two interleaved tracks, the Information
Processing (IP) track, and the Sensor Platforms, Tools and Design
Methods (SPOTS) track. Authors should carefully review the intended
foci of these two tracks to decide which track is better suited for
their work, and they are encouraged to contact the program chairs with
questions or clarifications. As an example of these different
emphases, results focused on the analysis and processing aspects of
data collected from deployments should be submitted to the IP track,
while studies on the hardware and software platforms and tools used
for deployment should be submitted to the SPOTS track.
The Information Processing (IP) track focuses on algorithms, theory,
and systems for information processing using networks of embedded,
human-operated, or social sensors. Topics covered in the IP track
include, but are not limited to:
- Innovative applications and deployment experiences
- Mobile, participatory, and social sensing
- Coding, compression and information theory
- Data processing, storage and management
- Detection, classification, and tracking
- Distributed algorithms and reasoning
- Distributed and collaborative signal processing
- Fundamental bounds and formulations
- Location, time, and other network services
- Sensor tasking, control, and actuation
- Network protocols
- Programming models and languages
The Sensor Platforms, Tools, and Design Methods (SPOTS) track focuses
on new hardware and software architectures, modeling, evaluation,
deployment experiences, design methods, implementations, and tools for
networked embedded sensor systems. Submissions are expected to refer
to specific hardware, software, and implementations. Topics covered in
the SPOTS track include, but are not limited to:
- Novel sensor network components, device platforms and architectures
- Embedded software for sensor networks
- Design tools and methodologies for sensor networks
- System modeling, simulation, measurements, and analysis
- Case studies that describe experiences, highlight challenges, and
study/compare the performance of platforms and tools

The 14th Annual International Workshop on Mobile Computing
Systems and Applications (ACM HotMobile 2013)
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
26-27 February, 2013
Jekyll Island, GA, USA
http://www.hotmobile.org/2013/
ACM HotMobile 2013, the 14th International Workshop on Mobile Computing
Systems and Applications continues the series of highly selective,
interactive
workshops focused on mobile applications, systems, and environments, as well
as their underlying state-of-the-art technologies. HotMobile's small
workshop
format makes it ideal for presenting and discussing new directions or
controversial approaches.
We solicit submissions of position papers that focus primarily on
applications
and systems and that propose new directions of research, advocate non-
traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate controversy and
discussion. We particularly look for position papers containing highly
original ideas in the following topic areas, although papers describing
other
challenges unique to or exacerbated by mobility are also welcome:
* Operating system and distributed system support for mobile computing
* Coordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of mobile devices
* Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility
* HCI issues related to mobile computing
* Security and privacy of mobile computing
* Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they
focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or
application.
ACM HotMobile 2013 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will
be judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance, and
likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the workshop. Presentation
at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on research ideas that are
a year or more from submission as a full conference paper to the ACM MobiSys
conference or other high-quality conferences. Submitting a full-length paper
on the same topic to MobiSys in less than a year is unlikely to involve a
sufficient increment of work and maturity of ideas.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may
not be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers accompanied
by nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will be returned to
the author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific peer review process,
submissions will be handled as confidential material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages in PDF format,
including all references, figures and tables. Papers should use the standard
ACM template, available at:
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
For more submission guidelines, please visit the conference website.

About IEEE CCNC '13
IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, sponsored by
IEEE Communications Society,
is a major annual international conference organized with the
objective of bringing together researchers, developers, and
practitioners from academia and industry working in all areas of
consumer communications and networking. IEEE CCNC was organized
specifically to help the consumer electronics industry drive the
advance of the numerous wireless and wireline communications
technologies that will one day provide on-demand access to both
entertainment and information anytime, anywhere, regardless of time or
location. This includes a detailed analysis of nearly every
technological area ranging from cognitive and peer-to-peer networking
to the designer services and tools used to ensure ease-of-use,
security and stunning interactivity.
Overview (IoTCoMM)
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor Network
(WSNs) are considered to be the main elements of pervasive computing
and have gathered the interest of the research community in the past
few years. Such technologies empower computers to perceive the world
for themselves leading the way to the new Internet of Things (IoT).
This interlinking of physical world and cyberspace foreshadows an
exciting endeavor that is highly attractive to researchers,
corporations, and individuals. IoT promises to create a global network
of physical objects every bit as pervasive and ubiquitous as the
worldwide web itself. Some are already describing it as either the
ultimate convenience or the ultimate disaster revolving around our
daily privacy. What does this mean to those of us who will be
encountering IoT? How would IoT transform our lives? And what are the
design and deployment challenges associated with such a network?
Topics
The workshop solicits papers and demos relating to the following topics:
IoT Hardware Design
-- Hardware aspects of RFID, WSN & WMSN sensor design
-- Sensor Actuation & Coordination
-- CMOS Camera Design, Integration of Smart Cameras & Others
IoT Protocol Design
-- Energy-aware communication protocols / Cross-layer optimization /
Congestion Control & Reliability
-- Collaborative signal processing / Quality-of-Service
-- MAC & Transport Protocols / Routing Protocols & Energy Efficiency /
Simulation tools, OSs and middleware
IoT Applications
-- Smart Housing & Smart Retail
-- Vehicular Traffic Congestion Management
-- Healthcare /Petroleum / Supply Chain
-- Other novel applications
Submissions must present original results.
Selected papers will be forward-looking, describe their relationship
to existing work, and have impact and implications for ongoing or
future research.

The doctoral colloquium at NetSys 2013 follows
the format of similar events at international
conferences such as PerCom, UbiComp, and Pervasive.
The aim is twofold. First, it should provide PhD
students in an early phase of their career with
the opportunity to discuss these with experts and
gain general feedback as well as specific comments
on their proposal. Second, this is an excellent
opportunity for a young researcher to start a
personal network with other PhD students as
well as with already established experts.
Format
------
The aim of the doctoral colloquium is to discuss research
ideas and PhD projects at different - typically - early
stages. The colloquium aims at a friendly atmosphere which
shall inspire the participants and put them - and their
research - in the focus. A panel of experts will discuss
the research based on a short presentation. Interactivity
and discussion are the the goal.
In addition to the colloquium a presentation of all participants
at the main conference will take place as a poster session.
A brief introduction of the topics (One-Minute-Madness)
is used to attract conference participants.
Submissions
-----------
Prospective participants are required to submit three different
documents:
at the point of submission:
1. Research Statement: a two-page abstract that sketches the
research proposal of the PhD student, the contribution to
knowledge and how the research will advance the state of the art.
2. Curriculum Vitae: a one brief CV that lists the education,
research interests and - if available - publications.
at the point of acceptance:
3. a poster that will be presented at the conference

5th IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications
IEEE WiVEC 2013
June 2-3 2013, Dresden, Germany
http://www.ieeevtc.org/wivec2013/
Sponsored by the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless vehicular communications has been identified as a key
technology for increasing road safety and transport efficiency, and
providing Internet access on the move to ensure wireless ubiquitous
connectivity. The potential of this technology has been acknowledged
with the establishment of ambitious research programs worldwide in
Europe, US and Asia.
The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) currently covers through
its areas of interest (Mobile Radio, Transportation Systems and
Automotive Electronics) all technical aspects needed to make wireless
vehicular communications a reality. As a result, the IEEE VTS society
decided to establish a technical symposium on wireless vehicular
communications co-located with the reputed IEEE VTC conferences.
The IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications
(WiVEC) will cover all wireless vehicular communication aspects of
vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I),
vehicle-to-person (V2P) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communications,
including implications on transport efficiency and safety,
implications on automotive electronics, liability issues,
standardizations efforts and spectrum assignment.
After the past successful WiVEC editions in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011
the fifth IEEE WiVEC symposium will be co-located with the 77th IEEE
Vehicular Technology Conference 2013 Spring, and will take place in
Dresden on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2013. Combined registrations
packages will be offered for WiVEC and VTC events.
All accepted papers (full length and demo papers) will be included in
the VTC 2013-Spring conference proceedings and will be published on
the IEEE Xplore database.
Note: VTC Fall editions are traditionally located in North America,
while VTC Spring is located in other areas of the world. Since WiVEC
was originally launched co-located with VTC Fall editions, the IEEE
Vehicular Technology Society decided that WiVEC would take place every
year and a half in order to ensure that the conference is
alternatively co-located with VTC Fall and Spring editions. This
resulted in that there was no WiVEC edition in 2009 and 2012.
Topics of Interest
------------------
The WiVEC Symposium seeks original papers - not published or currently
under review for another workshop, conference, or journal - in the
area of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I),
vehicle-to-person (V2P) and vehicle-to-grid (V2V) wireless
communications. Vehicular communication areas of interest include,
but are not limited to:
* RF technologies, antenna design, physical layer and propagation
models, spectrum assignment and EMC regulations
* Radio resource management and interference management, MAC protocols
* Vehicular networking (architectures, ad hoc, cellular and
device-to-device, heterogeneous)
* Dissemination strategies and data aggregation
* Scalability, decentralized congestion control, QoS and cross-layer
optimization
* Security, liability and privacy
* Integration and interworking (sensor network technologies, roadside
infrastructure, in-car electronics and embedded systems)
* Mobility management, mobility and vehicle traffic models
* Digital maps and location technologies
* Applications (eCall, eTolling, safety, traffic efficiency, traffic
management, green telematics, wireless diagnosis, driver compliance, etc.)
* Electric vehicle communication, incl vehicle-to-grid communication
* Standards development, business models, policies
* Simulation models and tools

CALL FOR PAPERS
IROS'12 2nd Workshop on Robots and Sensors integration in future rescue
INformation system (ROSIN'12)
October 2012, Vilamoura, Algarve (Portugal)
Web site:http://www.doesnotunderstand.org/out/public/ROSIN2012.html
======================================================================================
This workshop will take place in October 11th, 2012 in Vilamoura,
Algarve (Portugal),
during the 2012 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent
Robots and Systems (IROS'12).
This workshop is supported by the IEEE Robotics and Automation's
Technical Committee on Safety Security and Rescue Robotics.
Motivation and objectives
Intelligent rescue systems including ITC and robotics technology have
been proposed to mitigate disasters, especially in Japan after the
1995 Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Reports on urban emergency relief point
out that the most serious difficulty is the delay of communication of
reliable information between the authorities in charge, especially
district authorities, which are supposed to coordinate efforts in
real-time and make requests for support at the city level. In order to
do that, the infrastructure of information systems during disasters
plays an important role. Future rescue information systems may involve
a complex mixture of humans performing high level decision-making,
intelligent agents coordinating the response, sensors networks
providing real-time observations and robots undertaking physical tasks
in large-scale environments with the possibility of taking part in the
process of data collection. However, the considered environments are
prone to uncertainty, ambiguity and incompleteness given their dynamic
and evolving nature.
The aims of the workshop are:
- To present both state-of-the-art results and work in progress in the
area of distributed sensing in the context of robotic and sensor
networks integration,
- To foster multi-disciplinary collaborations between researchers
working on different topics: WSN (Wireless Sensors Network), robotic,
disaster management, etc ... thus forming a base for future
collaboration.
This workshop will focus on the tight integration of sensors-robots
and information systems during the rescue process. Topics that are of
special interest include but are not limited to:
- Distributed information gathering with sensors and robots,
- Information systems for disaster management including Spatial
Decision Support Systems (SDDS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
and participatory GIS
- GIS-based approaches for controlling robots, Advanced data
management with mobile robots and sensors, GIS spatial representation
for robotic systems,
- Trust enhancement infrastructure for information gathering during a
disaster, Co-design of communication and control protocols for
robot-sensor interaction,
- Role of robots and sensors in disaster and emergency management processes.
The primary audience of the proposed workshop is intended to be
researchers and practitioners both from academia and industry with an
interest on integration robots, sensors and information systems in the
context of disaster or emergency management. In addition, researchers
and practitioners from related communities (disaster management, SDDS,
GIS) will find this workshop quite useful.
Journal Special Issue
After the workshop, extended version of the papers could be submitted
to the following journal special issues:
Special issue of Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks (ISSN
2224-2708) on Multimedia Sensor Networks for Mission-Critical
Surveillance Applications.
