Cyber-physical systems are systems with a coupling of the cyber aspects
of computing and communications with the physical aspects of dynamics
and engineering that must abide by the laws of physics.
The objective of ICCPS 2013, the 4th ACM/IEEE International Conference
on Cyber-Physical Systems, is to serve as a single-track forum for
reporting advances in all aspects of cyber-physical systems, including
but not limited to theory, tools, applications, systems, and testbeds.
Examples of theoretical advances encompassed by this conference include
but are not limited to control, real-time, hybrid systems, and sensor
networks. Similarly, examples of applications include transportation,
energy, water, medical, and robotic systems, and other challenges for
the twenty-first century.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Submissions must report results from original research and not have been
submitted to or published in other conferences or journals. Submissions
must be a maximum of 10 pages, in 2-column format, and use font sizes of
no less than 10 pt. Quality of the paper is the primary consideration,
and is not synonymous with length. The length of a submission should be
tuned to the nature of the topic addressed.
Each submission will be reviewed using a peer-review process by the
ICCPS 2013 Program Committee. The review process will be typical of
high-quality IEEE and ACM conferences. Papers that are clearly not

KuVS -- Communication Software - Award
The special interest group for communication and distributed systems of the
German Association for Computer Science (GI/ITG Fachgruppe KuVS) is calling
applications for the biennial Communication Software Award. The
Communication
Software Award honors the best practice-oriented application, tool,
framework,
or demonstration showing innovative and original research in the areas of
networks, communication, or distributed systems. Submissions of novel,
original work from both academia and industry are invited, nominations of
students, from academic research projects, or SME are especially encouraged.
Products commercially available during the NetSys 2013 conference already,
are
excluded from the awards. Nominations of either single applicants or groups
are welcome, the best student application may get an additional award.
The submission should include an extended abstract of up to two pages. They
should include authorship (with affiliations), the problem domain and
application of the communication software nominated, platform requirements,
and the envisioned licensing scheme, and they should explicitly state what
will be demonstrated at the NetSys 2013 conference and how the audience will
be
able to interact and experiment with it. The following assessment criteria
should additionally be explicitly addressed:
- the relevance to its application in practice
- innovation and novelty of the new software
- enhancements as compared to prior systems
- the state of the software and its maturity for application
All nominations will undergo a preliminary review process for short listing.
All short listed systems will have to be presented at the NetSys 2013
conference in Stuttgart (registration to the conference will be needed) in a
demo session, and the price will be awarded following the final selection of

The doctoral colloquium at NetSys 2013 follows
the format of similar events at international
conferences such as PerCom, UbiComp, and Pervasive.
The aim is twofold. First, it should provide PhD
students in an early phase of their career with
the opportunity to discuss these with experts and
gain general feedback as well as specific comments
on their proposal. Second, this is an excellent
opportunity for a young researcher to start a
personal network with other PhD students as
well as with already established experts.
Format
------
The aim of the doctoral colloquium is to discuss research
ideas and PhD projects at different - typically - early
stages. The colloquium aims at a friendly atmosphere which
shall inspire the participants and put them - and their
research - in the focus. A panel of experts will discuss
the research based on a short presentation. Interactivity
and discussion are the goal.
In addition to the colloquium a presentation of all participants
at the main conference will take place as a poster session.
A brief introduction of the topics (One-Minute-Madness)
is used to attract conference participants.
Submissions
-----------
Prospective participants are required to submit three different
documents via email at phd-chair(a)netsys2013.de:
at the point of submission:
1. Research Statement: a two-page abstract that sketches the
research proposal of the PhD student, the contribution to
knowledge and how the research will advance the state of the art.
2. Curriculum Vitae: a one brief CV that lists the education,
research interests and - if available - publications.
at the point of acceptance:
3. a poster that will be presented at the conference

Call for Papers
7th Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (WMAN 2013)
collocated with Networked Systems 2013 (NetSys 2013)
Stuttgart, Germany, March 11-15, 2013
http://www.netsys2013.de/ws-wman.html
Scope
WMAN 2013 seeks to provide a platform for a broad discussion on Wireless
and Mobile Ad-hoc Networks among researchers from such diverse fields as
MANETs, VANETs, WSNs, or mesh networks. The focus should be on networked
systems that communicate wirelessly in a spontaneous way. Providing such
a platform should enhance awareness of new trends and approaches in
other areas of ad-hoc networking that might be applicable to the own
domain. According to this goal, submissions can present both original
and novel works including work in progress. However, submissions may
also provide a broader picture on the work of a working group or a
specific community or raise new issues or challenges that the research
community should discuss during the workshop.
Authors are invited to submit work on issues related to, but not limited
by, the following list of topics:
* Basic Technologies (IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth, ZigBee, etc.)
and their suitability for ad-hoc networks
* Lower layer support for Ad-hoc Networks
* Architectures and protocols
* Routing mechanisms for ad-hoc networks
* QoS in ad-hoc environments
* Auto-configuration and inter-networking with other
networks (like the Internet)
* Security, privacy, and data protection in ad-hoc networks
* Scalability and simulations of performance
* Energy efficiency
* Localization and location-based services in ad-hoc networks
* Applications and application architectures (e.g., P2P)
for ad-hoc networks
* Software platforms and middleware for ad-hoc networks
* Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs)
* Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs)
* Mesh networks
* Ad-hoc in ubiquitous computing scenarios
* Authentication, Authorization, Accounting (AAA)
* Design and management of ad-hoc networks
* Methods, models, and tools for designing, testing,
and analyzing ad-hoc networks
* Scalability and simulations
* Architectures and protocols for large ad-hoc networks
* Case-studies and experiences with production-use ad-hoc networks
* New application scenarios for ad-hoc networks
Workshop Organization
Matthias Frank (University of Bonn, Germany)
Frank Kargl (University of Ulm, Germany)
Burkhard Stiller (University of Zuerich, Switzerland)
Submissions
Submissions are expected in English, shall follow the IEEE transactions,
2 column, 11 pt format, A4 paper with a maximum of 3 pages extended
abstracts that should clearly outline the content of the proposed talk.
All submissions will undergo a relevancy check. If more submissions are
received than presentation slots are available, workshop chairs will
select submissions based on relevancy to the workshop and the potential
to raise discussions among participants. During the event, each
presenter will be given a 20 min. slot to present his/her topic followed
by a 20 min. slot for discussions. This stresses that talks have the
main purpose to stimulate discussions.
Accepted abstracts will be published online as a technical report of
University of Ulm (Ulmer Informatik Berichte).
Submissions in PDF format only and/or possible questions should be
directed to the workshop co-chairs at wman2013(a)cs.uni-bonn.de. Further
information can be found at http://www.netsys2013.de/ws-wman.html.
