5th IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications
IEEE WiVEC 2013
June 2-3 2013, Dresden, Germany
http://www.ieeevtc.org/wivec2013/
Sponsored by the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless vehicular communications has been identified as a key
technology for increasing road safety and transport efficiency, and
providing Internet access on the move to ensure wireless ubiquitous
connectivity. The potential of this technology has been acknowledged
with the establishment of ambitious research programs worldwide in
Europe, US and Asia.
The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) currently covers through its
areas of interest (Mobile Radio, Transportation Systems and Automotive
Electronics) all technical aspects needed to make wireless vehicular
communications a reality. As a result, the IEEE VTS society decided to
establish a technical symposium on wireless vehicular communications
co-located with the reputed IEEE VTC conferences.
The IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications
(WiVEC) will cover all wireless vehicular communication aspects of
vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I),
vehicle-to-person (V2P) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communications,
including implications on transport efficiency and safety, implications
on automotive electronics, liability issues, standardizations efforts
and spectrum assignment.
After the past successful WiVEC editions in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011
the fifth IEEE WiVEC symposium will be co-located with the 77th IEEE
Vehicular Technology Conference 2013 Spring, and will take place in
Dresden on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2013. Combined registrations packages
will be offered for WiVEC and VTC events.
All accepted papers (full length and demo papers) will be included in
the VTC 2013-Spring conference proceedings and will be published on the
IEEE Xplore database.
Note: VTC Fall editions are traditionally located in North America,
while VTC Spring is located in other areas of the world. Since WiVEC was
originally launched co-located with VTC Fall editions, the IEEE
Vehicular Technology Society decided that WiVEC would take place every
year and a half in order to ensure that the conference is alternatively
co-located with VTC Fall and Spring editions. This resulted in that
there was no WiVEC edition in 2009 and 2012.
Topics of Interest
------------------
The WiVEC Symposium seeks original papers - not published or currently
under review for another workshop, conference, or journal - in the area

Call for Papers for
"International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks"
Special Issue on
"Planning and Deployment of Wireless Sensor Networks"
The area of monitoring and control of physical environments has recently
become a hot spot in the technology landscape. Currently, a number of
companies are offering a plethora of sensing devices with different
phenomena's
monitoring capabilities. These devices, a.k.a. sensors, can be tiny with
limited energy and processing capabilities; they can be stand alone or
integrated in various and they can be deployed to form a Wireless Sensor
Network (WSN) in support to a variety of military, civil, and environmental
applications. In a WSN, the sensors are also capable to communicate with
each other and in a multihop way propagate sensing information to data
sinks
and operations centers. In the last few years, wireless sensor networking
has been a very active research area in both academia and the industry with
a wide variety of applications. While the set of challenges in sensor
networks are diverse, researches have mainly focused on fundamental
networking challenges, which include: routing protocols and energy
minimization. However, the performances of the proposed solutions strongly
depend on the way sensors were positioned in the area. To that end, the
goal of this special issue is to report on recent advances in wireless
sensor network planning and deployment. Its scope is open for both
theoretical and practical contributions related to WSN architecture,
planning, deployments, and applications.
Authors are solicited to contribute to this special issue by submitting
original articles that illustrate research results, projects, and
industrial
experiences that describe significant advances in this field. Potential
topics
include, but are not limited to:
- WSN deployment
- WSN planning (MAC protocols, scheduling, and routing)
- Clustering in WSNs
- Large-scale WSN deployment
- WSN coverage
- Query processing for data streams
- Deployment and energy-efficient communication
- Self-organization and network reconfiguration
- Energy harvesting in WSNs
- Integrated and cross-layer solutions for WSNs
- Configuration, robustness, reliability, and failure tolerance
- Security, privacy, and trust
- Planning and deployment of multimedia sensor networks
- Planning and deployment of underwater sensor networks
- Planning and deployment of body area sensor networks
- Implementations, testbeds, and prototypes of WSN deployment
- Applications: health, environment, emergency, tracking, and so forth
- Integrated and cross-layer solutions for WSN
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author
Guidelines, which are located at
http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijdsn/guidelines/. Prospective authors

Call for Papers : IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications-
Special series on Smart Grid Communications
"Smart Grid" refers to the modernization of electric grid to allow for
more efficient generation, transmission, distribution, and usage of
energy. This is becoming necessary in order to transition to a more
sustainable energy generation and consumption and reduce its adverse
effects on the environment. While more advances in areas like renewable
energies and network control are necessary, advances in communication
technologies, data fusion and mining, as well as scheduling and
optimization are also critical in order to achieve this vision.
It is anticipated that the same communication technologies that have
revolutionized our way of life in the past decades, ranging from sensor
networks, mobile Internet, cloud computing, smart phones and many
others, will have direct applicability to Smart Grid. Many off-the-shelf
and commercial communication technologies may be ready for deployment in
the Smart Grid today. Examples include the use of wireless
communications to collect and exchange information about electric
quality, consumption, pricing, etc. However, allowing greater
flexibility in sharing information in a secure and reliable fashion
still poses a number of challenges. Furthermore, using off-the-shelves
technologies may lead to inefficiencies, especially if energy management
specific features are not utilized adequately in the data compression
and the collection infrastructure. Questions that remain unanswered in
the smart grid context, include, coverage, interference, spectrum
sharing, architecture, network topology, access control and
authentication, data representation, data fusion and many more.
This series of IEEE JSAC is focused on identifying the numerous
communication challenges posed by the various aspects and
functionalities of the Smart Grid and exploring research avenues for
addressing them. Original contributions that are unpublished and not
currently under review by any other journal are solicited in relevant
areas of Smart Grid communications including (but not limited) to the
following:
* Physical and MAC layer protocols for Smart Grid applications
* Spectrum sharing, coexistence and interference mitigation in Smart
Grid communications
* Network control for the power grid
* Smart Grid sensors data fusion and mining models
* Communications to support demand-response, load and pricing management
* Smart Grid cyber-physical network modeling and performance analysis
* Measurement data from Smart Grid testbeds and field trials
* Architecture and network topology for Smart Grid applications
* Cyber and physical vulnerabilities and Smart Grid security
Each submission should demonstrate clear applicability to Smart Grid
communications. Prospective authors should follow the IEEE J-SAC
manuscript format described in the information for authors
(http://www.jsac.ucsd.edu/Guidelines/info.html).
All papers should be submitted through EDAS using the following URL:

> Call for Papers for
> Springer Mobile Networks and Applications Special Issue on
> /"Wireless Technology for Pervasive Healthcare”/
>
> Since the start of this new century, the proportion of seniors has
> been increasing more rapidly than other age groups while the newborn
> rate is steadily decreasing. This global aging problem demands an
> increased focus on preparing pervasive healthcare systems and
> applications deployed around users and capable of remotely caring
> for them and improving their health and well-being anywhere anytime.
> These systems and applications require a sophisticated integration of
> microcircuit, medical sensing, and wireless and mobile technologies.
> They largely benefit users by decreasing the dependability on special
> caregivers and eventually reducing healthcare expenses through a more
> efficient use of healthcare resources and an earlier detection of
> life-threateningemergency situations. However, the realization of pervasive healthcare sets some additional critical requirements, e.g. realtimeness and fault-tolerance, and reliability, security and efficiency challenges compared with traditional hospital-based systems. Exploitation of Information and
> Communications Technologies as well as Networking and Sensors
> Technologies will enable cost-effective and efficient healthcare delivery,
> capable to deal with physical and logical mobility of patients and
> devices.
> The focus of this call is on theory and applications of Wireless
> Technologies towards the definition of the Next Generation Pervasive
> Healthcare. Original, unpublished contributions are solicited.
> Possible topics of interest include, but are certainly not limited to
> the following:
> * Wireless body area networks for remote healthcare monitoring
> * Energy efficient sensing and communication for pervasive healthcare
> * Reliable and fault-tolerant communications in pervasive healthcare
> * Network protocols design and analysis for pervasive healthcare
> * Data management and resource sharing for pervasive healthcare
> * Mobile, social, context-aware computing for pervasive healthcare
> * Integration of different wireless technologies for pervasive healthcare
> * Remote diagnosis and patient management for pervasive healthcare
> * Distributed multimedia services for pervasive healthcare
> * Emergency detection and response for pervasive healthcare
> * Trust, security, privacy, and QoS provisioning for pervasive healthcare
> * System architectures, applications & prototypes for pervasive healthcare

>
> The International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor
> Networks (IPSN) is a leading, single-track, annual forum on research
> in wireless, embedded, and networked sensing systems. IPSN brings
> together researchers from academia, industry, and government to
> present and discuss recent advances in both theoretical and
> experimental research. Its scope includes signal and image processing,
> information and coding theory, databases and information management,
> distributed algorithms, networks and protocols, wireless
> communications, collaborative objects and the Internet of Things,
> machine learning, mobile and social sensing, and embedded systems
> design. Of special interest are contributions at the confluence of a
> multiple of these areas.
>
> The conference features two interleaved tracks, the Information
> Processing (IP) track, and the Sensor Platforms, Tools and Design
> Methods (SPOTS) track. Authors should carefully review the intended
> foci of these two tracks to decide which track is better suited for
> their work, and they are encouraged to contact the program chairs with
> questions or clarifications. As an example of these different
> emphases, results focused on the analysis and processing aspects of
> data collected from deployments should be submitted to the IP track,
> while studies on the hardware and software platforms and tools used
> for deployment should be submitted to the SPOTS track.
>
> The IP track focuses on algorithms, theory, and systems for
> information processing using networks of embedded, human-operated, or
> social sensors. Topics covered in the IP track include, but are not
> limited to:
> - Innovative applications and deployment experiences
> - Mobile, participatory, and social sensing
> - Coding, compression and information theory
> - Data processing, storage and management
> - Detection, classification, and tracking
> - Distributed algorithms and reasoning
> - Distributed and collaborative signal processing
> - Fundamental bounds and formulations
> - Location, time, and other network services
> - Sensor tasking, control, and actuation
> - Network protocols
> - Programming models and languages
>
> The SPOTS track focuses on new hardware and software architectures,
> modeling, evaluation, deployment experiences, design methods,
> implementations, and tools for networked embedded sensor systems.
> Submissions are expected to refer to specific hardware, software, and
> implementations. Topics covered in the SPOTS track include, but are
> not limited to:
> - Novel sensor network components, device platforms and architectures
> - Embedded software for sensor networks
> - Design tools and methodologies for sensor networks
> - System modeling, simulation, measurements, and analysis
> - Case studies that describe experiences, highlight challenges, and
> study/compare the performance of platforms and tools
> - Network health monitoring and management
> - Operating systems and runtime environments
> - Innovative sensing platforms including crowd sourcing
> - User interfaces for sensing applications and systems
