After the two first successful editions of MobileHealth, MobileHealth'2011
in Paris (France) and MobileHealth'2012 in Hilton Head Island (USA), the
third edition of the workshop will be held in Bangalore - India on
July 29th, 2013 in conjunction with the 14th edition of ACM MobiHoc
symposium (MobiHoc 2013).
Recent Advances in technology has led to the development of small,
intelligent, wearable sensors capable of remotely performing critical
health monitoring tasks and then transmitting patient's data back to
health care centers over wireless medium. Such wireless health
monitoring platforms aim to continuously monitor mobile patients needing
permanent surveillance. However, to set up such platforms several issues
along the communication chain should be resolved. The acquisition of
medical information via a set of wireless sensors embedded in the patient
himself, the treatment and use of this information either by a local
contractor equipment or offset after transfer in 3G and/or WiFi connection
to a data server, the access to the collected data, ...etc. are some of
the important challenges that we have to consider. Each level represents
a fairly complex subsystem with a local hierarchy employed to ensure
efficiency, portability, security, and reduced cost.
MobileHealth'2013 workshop aims to provide a forum for the interaction
of these multiple areas and would be an important chance to discuss and
understand what aspects have to be considered to provide effective
pervasive wireless healthcare systems. The workshop will include
presentations of theoretical and experimental achievements, innovative
wireless systems, prototyping efforts, case studies and advances in
technology related to wireless healthcare networking and systems.
This announcement solicits technical papers describing original,
previously unpublished research, not currently under review by
another conference or journal. Submissions should clearly identify
how they relate to issues on wireless healthcare networking systems.
Contributions describing an overall working system are particularly of
interest.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Mobile devices for healthcare
- Wearable and Implantable Wireless sensors for healthcare
- Communications infrastructure for mobile healthcare apps
- Protocols for wireless healthcare
- Scalability, performance and reliability of mobile healthcare apps
- Pervasive Wireless communications in healthcare
- Service and device discovery
- Data fusion and context elaboration
- Wireless monitoring and ambient assisted applications for healthcare
- Energy Efficiency in Wireless health monitoring
- Pervasive Health Systems and Services
- Authentication and Sensors' monitoring

Web site: http://www.china-iot.net/Workshops/SSO.htm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the emergence of new information and communication technologies,
smart objects combined with
communication infrastructures such as Internet and mobile networks
enable accessing to things anywhere
anytime, and collecting data secretly. To avoid emergence of a Big
Brother world, stringent control
on the applications involving this kind of objects is highly required
with the need for objects to
support security functions. The challenging issue is that smart objects
are extremely constrained
in terms of energy, computational power and memory, so support of strong
security is made arduous.
Smart cards, crypto-keys, mobile telephony, RFID and NFC, TPM or TEE are
examples of these devices
where complex hardware and software are designed to solve major
constraints of security, safety,
reliability, efficiency, quality of service, and price. Many
applications with high social and business
impact are part of IoT/SSO domain, including personal healthcare,
intelligent transportation,
home automation, mobile payment, e-passport, surveillance, etc. The most
important challenges are:
i) the definition of architectures, protocols and algorithms to secure
smart objects and their
connection to the information system on the Internet/Cloud; and ii) the
creation of platforms
and services that are open, secure, and interoperable to interconnect
things/smart objects.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia
and industry in order to have a forum for discussion and technical
presentations on the recent
advances in theory, application and implementation of the SSO concept: tech

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine
Special Issue on Wireless Networking for e-Health Applications
- submission deadline extended: February 1, 2013 -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The confluence of electronics miniaturization, information proliferation
in healthcare, and novel concepts for energy efficiency and energy
scavenging, has pushed the application of Mobile Wireless Networks, such
as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and - perhaps more importantly so -
Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) from the realm of theoretical
exploration into healthcare reality. This advance heralds in a new era
for patient monitoring, medical procedures, patient status awareness,
outpatient treatment, and a plethora of other areas in modern healthcare.
Developments in component miniaturization of electronics and sensing
devices, advances in low-power wireless communication, and the arrival
of energy harvesting have led to the development of ultra-low power
wireless communication and sensing devices that are ideally suited for
mobile healthcare applications. These devices can be installed in
medical facilities and equipment, or worn directly on a patient's body,
allowing for real-time data acquisition, data fusion, reporting, and
alerting from a plethora of sources. This allows for an unprecedented
level of insight into a patient's health, with a similarly high level of
fidelity of the collected data that in many cases is sufficient to allow
biometric identification of an individual.

requirements and constraints, many vital topics of research need to be
explored to provide robustness, security, responsiveness, and longevity
of the wireless network and patient health information. This special
issue focuses on the state-of-the-art in wireless networking for
e-Health applications, associated technical and regulatory challenges,
as well as exploring deployments and implementations in real-world
applications.

IEEE Sensors Journal SI on Internet of Things (IoT): Architecture,
Protocols and Services
(http://www.ieee-sensors.org/files/2012/09/IEEE_Sensors_IoT_SI_CfP-Final1.pdf)
Submission Due: January 31, 2013
The Internet of Things was “Born” between 2008 and 2009, when the number
of things connected to the Internet exceeded the number of people
connected. By 2020, several tens of billions of devices are predicted to
be connected. It is envisioned that the physical things/devices will be
outfitted with different kinds of sensors and actuators and connected to
the Internet via heterogeneous access networks enabled by technologies
such as embedded sensing and actuating, radio frequency identification
(RFID), wireless sensor networks, real-time and semantic web services,
etc. IoT is actually a network of networks with many unique
characteristics.
With the huge number of things/objects and sensors/actuators connected
to the Internet, a massive and in some cases real-time data flow will be
automatically produced by connected things and sensors. It is important
to collect correct raw data in an efficient way; but more important is
to analyze and mine the raw data to abstract more valuable information
such as correlations among things and services to provide web of things
or Internet of services. However many challenges and problems remain
unsolved as of now or not fully addressed due to the unique features of
IoT systems. First, IoT needs an appropriate architecture such as a
service-oriented, a content-centric, or a thing-centric architecture.
Second, it is truly challenging to design efficient protocols to cater
for diverse IoT devices, sensors and services. The goal of this special
issue of IEEE Sensors Journal is to feature latest advances and
directions in IoT architecture, protocols and
services for typical IoT use cases (such as smart grid, connected cars,
smart cities, etc), their performance, impact, demands and implications
on future Internet design.
The emphasis of this special issue will be on the sensor aspects of IoT.
Scope
Papers should contain original results or review/tutorial content to be
accessible to general audiences working in the field. Topics of interest
are listed, but not limited to, as follows:
* Sensors in scalable IoT architecture
* Mobile and participatory sensor networks for IoT
* Wireless sensor networks for IoT
* Sensing and actuating as an IoT service
* Sensor network virtualization
* IoT identification, addressing and naming schemes

CALL FOR PAPERS
IoT-SoS 2013
Second IEEE Workshop on the
Internet of Things: Smart Objects and Services

co-located with IEEE WoWMoM 2013
sponsored by IEEE, IEEE Computer Society
June 4, 2013

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a novel paradigm which is shaping the
evolution of the future Internet. According to the vision underlying the
IoT, the next step in increasing the ubiquity of the Internet, after
connecting people anytime and everywhere, is to connect inanimate
objects. By providing objects with embedded communication capabilities
and a common addressing scheme, a highly distributed and ubiquitous
network of seamlessly connected heterogeneous devices is formed, which
can be fully integrated into the current Internet and mobile networks,
thus allowing for the development of new intelligent services available
anytime, anywhere, by anyone and anything. Such a vision is also
becoming known under the name of Machine-to-Machine (M2M), where the
absence of human interaction in the system dynamics is further stressed.
Many applications with high social and business impact fall under the
IoT/M2M umbrella, including personal healthcare, smart grid,
surveillance, home automation, intelligent transportation, while it is
expected that new ones will emerge once the enabling technologies reach
a stable state. At the moment, two of the most important challenges are:
i) the definition of architectures, protocols and algorithms for an
efficient interconnection of smart objects, both between themselves and
with the (Future) Internet; and ii) the creation of value-added
services, esp. open and interoperable, enabled by the interconnection of
things / machines / smart objects, in such a way that they can be
integrated with current and new business and development processes.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for
discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in theory,
application and implementation of the Internet of Things concept:
technologies, protocols, algorithms, and services.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- System architectures for the IoT/M2M
- Communication protocols for the IoT/M2M
- Service platforms for the IoT/M2M
- Enabling technologies and standards for the IoT/M2M
- Mobility management
- Context awareness
- Sustainable design
- Location-based services and geographic information systems
- Experimental prototypes and large-scale testbed infrastructures
- Performance evaluation of IoT/M2M solutions
- Convergence with the Internet of Services
- Applications, including: eHealth/mHealth; Smart Grid/Smart Metering;
connected consumer; fleet management; surveillance; Intelligent
Transportation Systems; Smart House/Neighborhood/City
- Business development and processes
- Industrial use cases showing gaps to be filled by future research

Network Protocols and Algorithms for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging area of wireless ad hoc
networks that facilitates ubiquitous connectivity between smart vehicles
through Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) or Vehicle-to-Roadside (V2R) and
Roadside-to-Vehicle (R2V) communications. This emerging field of technology
aims to improve safety of passengers and traffic flow, reduces pollution to
the environment and enables in-vehicle entertainment applications. The
safety-related applications could reduce accidents by providing drivers
with traffic information such as collision avoidance, traffic flow alarms
and road surface conditions. Moreover, the passengers could exploit an
available infrastructure in order to connect to the internet for
infomobility and entertainment applications.
The increasing necessity of this network is an impetus for leading car
manufacturers, research communities and governments to increase their
efforts toward creating a standardized platform for vehicular
communications. However, VANET’s unique characteristics and special
requirements excite new challenges to the research community. To address
these challenges in both safety- and comfort-oriented applications, there
is a pressing need to develop new protocols and algorithms for channel
characterization and modeling, Medium Access Control (MAC), obstacle
modeling, adaptive geographical routing to sparse and dense traffic
conditions. This special issue aims to theme innovative research
achievements in the field of vehicular networks and communications. We are
seeking original and unpublished papers. Specific topics include, but are
not limited to:
- Channel characterization, modeling and simulation
- Radio obstacle modeling in urban vehicular environments
- Efficient packet forwarding optimization
- Congestion control and resource management
- Medium access protocols and channel assignments
- Adaptive beaconing protocols
- Mobility management
- Mobility models
- Efficient geographical routing adapted to bipolar traffic conditions
- Delay tolerant routing protocols
- Message dissemination for safety-related applications
- Cooperative vehicular communications
- Test-beds, case studies, experimental systems and evaluations
- Security and privacy issues

CALL FOR PAPERS
PhoneCom 2013: The 3rd IEEE International Workshop on Sensing,
Networking, and Computing with Smartphones
http://phonecom.org
In conjunction with IEEE CPSCom 2013
Beijing, China, 20 - 23 August, 2013
Smartphones have now truly become a ubiquitous computing device, a
computer that the late Mark Weiser envisioned in his ubiquitous computing
manifesto. Many applications that could only have been dreamed of, have
now become a reality due to the high computing resources, display and
networking capabilities of smartphones. With applications ranging from
productivity, entertainment, enterprise, social networking, communications
and mixed reality, the smartphone is the "swiss army knife" of it all.
However, there are still many untapped elements and unlimited
possibilities that smartphones can provide that have not been explored
much in detail. In this workshop, we will explore how smartphones can help
enable cyber-physical computing, that bridges the gap between the physical
and the virtual world and also enable social computing by creating mobile
social networks, social networks that are built around the interactions of
mobile phones.
The PhoneCom 2013 workshop is an international forum for researchers and
practitioners to present innovative ideas and results on all aspects of
smartphone computing, including theoretical foundations, techniques and
methods, tools and platforms, prototypes, evaluation, practical
implementations and applications. The workshop aims to attract and bring
together mobile computing, cyber-physical computing, ubiquitous computing,
social computing, wireless networking and communications researchers along
with user interface designers and practitioners with diverse backgrounds.
The workshop will be a full day workshop. Besides research paper
presentations, the workshop will feature an Invited Talk (keynote) and a
Panel Discussion session. The workshop will be held in Beijing, China in
August 2013, in conjunction with the 6th IEEE International Conference on
Cyber, Physical and Social Computing (CPSCom 2013)

Topics:
In recent years real-time multimedia services have been changing the way
we communicate, they are expected to be among
the most important application areas of the Future Internet. User demand
for multimedia services with stringent timing
and usability requirements providing access anywhere, anytime and from
any device are creating new challenges for research
as well as industry. It is expected that multimedia services alone will
account for over 90% of all consumer network traffic
in the coming years. This is driven by the explosive growth in users
sharing multimedia content over the Internet and more
and more communication services integrating video, audio, text and
images to enhance interpersonal communication. In order
to support this, novel network, application, monitoring, measurement,
optimization, and storage approaches must be created.
These have to put the human users and their requirements at the heart of
the system and operations in order to provide truly
human-centric multimedia systems and services. By doing so, they need to
overcome the historic divide between HCI approaches
and purely techno-centric systems.
The objective of The ACM SIGCOMM 2013 Workshop on Future Human-centric
Multimedia Networking (FhMN 2013) is to discuss
state-of-the-art research and development activities contributing to all
aspects of human-centric multimedia systems and
networking. Following its success in the last four workshops, this Fifth
Workshop’s theme is “Supporting Human-Centric
Multimedia Networking”, and should provide a platform to present and
discuss relevant research and development aspects
related to user-centric applications and multimedia communication.Topics
of Interest include:
- Social multimedia networking
- Future Internet architectures for human-centric multimedia networking
- Emerging human-centric multimedia services and applications (gaming,
3D video, surveillance, sensing)
- Context awareness and human-computer confluence
- Information and story centric networking
- Novel human-centric network management and provisioning
