IEEE MobileCloud 2014 - Call for Papers
The 2nd IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud
Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud '14)
http://www.mobile-cloud.net/
Oxford, UK, 8-11 April 2014
Co-sponsored by IEEE Computer Society
IMPORTANT DATES
- Full paper submission: November 5, 2013
- Review notification: December 31, 2013
- Camera-ready: January 15, 2014
- Conference: April 8-11, 2014
In the recent years, cloud computing has cultivated the outsourcing of
computing resources like IT infrastructures, service platforms, and
software. With the emergence of ultra-fast 4G mobile networks and
highly-featured smartphones and tablets, the prerequisites are now met
for bringing cloud computing to the mobile domain. While first
commercial products are restricted to the sharing of files, contacts,
and calendars among different devices, more sophisticated applications
still have to be developed. Future applications of mobile cloud
computing will have an impact on almost all activities of our social and
business life, and include, but are not limited to, mobile marketing,
social networks, smart cities, health care, and business processes.
IEEE MobileCloud 2014 will provide a great platform to allow researchers
and professionals in the industry to exchange their latest research
results and development activities on mobile cloud computing and
services. The primary objective is to share research ideas and results,
emerging industry technologies, and latest advances. The conference
solicits original technical papers, not previously published and not
currently under review for publication elsewhere. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
- Mobile cloud computing models, infrastructures, and approaches
- Mobile cloud new service models and engineering approaches
- Green computing in mobile cloud networking and computing
- Resource and service management, provision, and migration
- Transmission protocols and scheduling algorithms
- Mobility modeling, management and measurement techniques
- Mobile-aware cloud databases and data retrievals
- Content/context-aware networking for mobile clouds
- Mobile multimedia services, and mobile social community services
- Location-based mobile cloud applications and service models
- Mobile cloud middleware and open sources
- Collaboration, management, and mobile cloud administration
- Mobile cloud knowledge engineering and data mining techniques
- Virtualization techniques for mobile cloud computing and services
- Security and privacy enhancements for mobile cloud computing and
networking
- Mobile cloud malware detection and defensive mechanisms

CALL FOR PAPERS
The key components of many pervasive systems and applications are already
deployed in the form of ubiquitous commercial products carried by humans.
Human mobility makes it possible for such key components to interact,
promoting cooperation and sharing of content, services and resources.
Smartphones, tablet PCs, and other personal devices act as mobile computing
elements able to gather information about the surrounding environment
according to the mobility of users. In other situations these devices
operate as mobile nodes of the computing and/or networking infrastructure,
where interaction and communication occur opportunistically.
The goal of PerMoby is to explore the impact of human mobility on the
achievement of the pervasive computing vision. The focus is on pervasive
applications, systems, and protocols where mobility plays an active role
in achieving the end goals.
Original papers addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of
human-centric applications and systems are solicited. Papers describing
prototype implementations and deployment of such applications and systems
are particularly welcome. The submission of papers on controversial issues
is also encouraged. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- pervasive systems and applications based on (or influenced by) human
mobility
- mobile phone sensing applications and systems
- opportunistic and participatory sensing, and anything in between
- opportunistic computing
- pervasive systems with humans in the loop
- wearable sensing systems
- mobility models
- distributed computing approaches that rely on human mobility
- impact of human mobility on wireless communication
- green pervasive applications that leverage human mobility
- mobility aware protocols
- opportunistic networking
- pervasive social networking
PUBLICATION AND INDEXING
Papers are published in the combined proceedings of the IEEE PerCom
Workshops and will appear on IEEExplore.
According to Google’s metrics, such proceedings are characterised by
high values of h5 index and h5-median index, respectively equal to 32 and
43. This makes the IEEE PerCom Workshops one of the publication venues
with higher visibility and impact in the area of pervasive computing.
In the last years, the IEEE PerCom Workshops proceedings have always been
indexed by Scopus. Besides appearing within the database, a paper that
is published in the IEEE PerCom Workshops is both a “source” and a
“destination” for the Scopus citation managing system (and thus it
contributes to the author’s h-index and citation count, as computed
by Scopus).
PAPER SUBMISSION
Papers should contain original material and should not be previously
published or currently submitted for consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts
are limited to a maximum of 6 pages in IEEE conference format. At least
one author of each accepted paper must register and attend the workshop
to present the paper. There is no workshop-only registration. An oral
presentation at the workshop is strictly required. Failure to present
the paper at the workshop will result in the withdrawal of the paper
from the proceedings as well as from IEEE Xplore. Paper submission via
EDAS athttp://edas.info/N15441.

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE COMMUNICATIONS MAGAZINE
Feature Topic on Disaster Resilience in Communication Networks
*Aims and Scope*
Society's increasing dependence on communication networks, the Internet and
their services is evident from the wide range of activities that use
electronic media, from entertainment to critical operations related to
commerce, finance and life care. Humanity relies on the Internet to access
information, obtain services, manage finances, and communicate with others.
Businesses use the Internet to transact commerce with consumers and other
businesses. Governments depend on communication networks for their daily
operation and service delivery. The military depends on the Global
Information Grid to execute network centric operations and warfare. Hence,
in addition to transportation-infrastructure, power-generation, and
distribution-grid public/private networks, the Internet and other publicly
accessible communication networks are today critical infrastructures upon
which our lives and prosperity depend.
Given this dependence, vulnerabilities of communication networks and the
Internet can significantly impact our lives. The dependence on
communication networks and the Internet makes them an attractive target for
attacks and intrusions attempting to either obtain information or disrupt
service of individuals, businesses, government and military. These networks
and services are also susceptible to accidents, faults or natural disasters
that can disrupt service. Examples of natural disasters that compromised
the network infrastructure are the hurricanes Sandy and Katrina.
In the face of these difficulties, the need for greater resilience has
been recognized for wireline and wireless networks and for the Internet.
Resilience has classically been defined as the ability of the network to
provide and maintain an acceptable level of service in the face of faults,
accidents, attacks and natural disasters. This subject has attracted the
attention of researchers, industry and governments around the world. Today,
resilience can be considered an essential characteristic in the design and
operation of networks to withstand the intrusions described above.
Furthermore, we must now expand resilience to include new requirements,
such as scalability, dynamic and opportunistic topologies, and global
interoperation and interdependence among networks.
This feature topic call-for-papers solicits recent, relevant works related
to disaster resilience, especially in emerging networks. The main goal is
to provide for the *IEEE Communications Magazine *an overview of the
state-of-the-art of resilience, and to identify the new challenges from
emerging network infrastructures in terms of scalability, heterogeneity,
and dynamicity. Works addressing resilience issues in the context of new
communication technologies, such as software-defined networks, cognitive
radio and emerging optical technologies are of particular interest.
*Topics*
Articles describing original research and development as well as survey
articles related to disaster resilience are solicited. The topics to be
covered by this feature topic include, but are not limited to:
* Disaster resilience for the following technologies:
- LTE, LTE-A, 4G, Small Cells, femto-cells
- Heterogeneous wireless networks
- Access Networks
- Flexible Optical Networks
- Overlay and multi-layer networks
- Virtualized Networks
- Software-Defined Networks (SDN)
- Datacenters, Cloud infrastructures, Networks for Big Data
- Smart Grids, M2M
- Green networks
* Disaster resilience approaches coping with:
- Mitigation and reconstruction of network infrastructure
- Management for post disaster network infrastructure reconstruction
- Network infrastructure adaptive capacity
- Disaster risk reduction
- Risk management and sustainability
- Community and social engagement in providing communication
infrastructure in disaster situation
- Knowledge management and integration
- Public policy and governance to build disaster resilient smart cities
- Energy efficiency
*Submission Guidelines*
Articles should be tutorial in nature and written in a style comprehensible
to readers outside the specialty of the article. Authors must follow the
*IEEE Communications Magazine*’s guidelines for preparation of the
manuscript. Complete guidelines for prospective authors can be found at
http://www.comsoc.org/commag/paper-submission-guidelines. It is very
important to note that the *IEEE Communications Magazine* strongly limits
mathematical content, the number of figures and tables, and the number of
references. Paper length should not exceed 4,500 words. All articles to
be considered for publication must be submitted through the IEEE Manuscript
Central (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/commag-ieee) by the deadline.
Select “October 2014/Disaster Resilience” as the submission category.
*Important Dates*
Manuscript Submission Due: February 1, 2014

********************************************************************************
NOM 2013 Call for Papers
The 2nd Workshop on Name-Oriented Mobility (NOM): Architectures, Algorithms, and Applications
in conjunction with IEEE INFOCOM 2014
April 28 or May 2, 2014
Toronto, Canada
http://www.ieee-infocom.org/2014/Workshops_NOM.html
********************************************************************************
The second edition of the NOM workshop will be held on May 2nd 2014 in conjunction with the IEEE INFOCOM 2014
conference after the great success of its first edition that was held with the ACM MobiHoc 2013 conference. The NOM
workshop is particularly interested in Information Centric Network (ICN) advances in support of the mobile and wireless space.
Name-oriented network architectures appear very promising for wireless and mobile networks, such as for instance
IoT among wireless and mobile devices that could not scale well up till now, home networks among wireless and mobile
hand held devices that constitute the majority of end-users devices, wireless sensor networks for smart spaces and vehicular
networks which account a large, and exponentially increasing number of devices and connections that clearly suffer from
the lack of mobility management in the IP architecture and the lack of an efficient data storage and sharing mean. Moreover,
within the context of multimedia and video services and the huge demand for highly scalable and efficient distribution of
content, ICN is promising in offering an alternative or complementing to the proprietary or specialized content distribution
mechanisms, such as CDN and P2P systems, and aims for improved content access through general Internet mechanisms for
content replication and dissemination among not only core network devices but also wireless edge network devices and
wireless and mobile end-users devices.

SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS:
Special Issue on "HEURISTICS FOR RELIABLE AND EFFICIENT WIRELESS SENSOR
NETWORKS DEPLOYMENTS"
PDF: http://arco.unex.es/hrewsn
http://www.springer.com/mathematics/applications/journal/10732
Journal of Heuristics
Springer, ISSN: 1381-1231. Editor-in-Chief: Manuel Laguna.
Impact factor (2012): 1.471 (Q1, COMPUTER SCIENCE, THEORY & METHODS).
Aims and Scope:
==============
Wireless Sensor Networks are nowadays an extended engineering technology
for many markets due to the great amount of their possibilities in
collecting data from complex environments and processing them for
different purposes. Nevertheless, this interest is not enough to apply
this kind of networks as trustworthy solution for many real-world
environments, such as industrial processes and critical infrastructures,
where high reliability is required, together with other related key
aspects as energy, security and efficiency. Many companies could
overcome their reluctances if economic, reliable and easily deployed
solutions are provided in this field. In this scenario, the heuristics
and computational intelligence play an important role to solve many
involved optimization problems, doing necessary the research on advanced
solutions that result in a successful product. In this sense, there are
many challenges, trends and open possibilities in this area that deserve
to be known. In this special issue, we seek original, high quality
articles, clearly focused on theoretical or practical aspects of the
heuristics and mathematical optimization methods for obtaining reliable
and efficient wireless sensor networks, including but not limited to the
topics shown below.
Topics of Interest:
==================
The topics related to heuristics for reliable and efficient Wireless
Sensor Networks deployments that are relevant to this special issue
include but are not limited to:
* Energy minimization aspects: network lifetime and power savings.
* Efficient networks deployments.
* Heuristics and computational intelligence applied for solving
optimization problems.
* Multiobjective optimization problems.
* Fault tolerance and quality of service.
* Robust routing algorithms, network protocols and operating systems.
* Security and privacy aspects of the communications.
* Microprocessors, circuits, and embedded applications.
* Application cases, user studies and experiences.
Papers must be tailored to the problem of the wireless sensor networks
and explicitly consider heuristics and mathematical optimization
methods. The editors maintain the right to reject papers they deem to be
out of scope of this special issue. Only originally unpublished
contributions and invited articles will be considered for the issue.
Authors should submit their manuscripts through Editorial Manager
http://www.editorialmanager.com/heur/, selecting "SI - HREWSN" as the
article type.
Important Dates:
===============
Submission deadline: December 1st, 2013.
Acceptation notification: April 1st, 2014.
Final Papers: June 1st, 2014.
