To succeed, effort is envisioned to come from multiple dimensions including 1) spectrum efficiency enhancement, 2) small cell deployment and 3) novel network architectures. First, advanced multiple antenna technology such as massive multiple-input-multiple output (MIMO), virtual MIMO, full-dimensional MIMO and 3-D beamforming are promising techniques to enhance per-user spectrum efficiency and system capacity. Second, by deploying dense small cells within the local-area range and bringing the network closer to end-users, small cell and heterogeneous networks (HetNets) can potentially improve spectrum resource reuse, spatial resource reuse and communication coverage, thus allowing future mobile networks to achieve higher data rates, while retaining the seamless connectivity and mobility of current mobile network deployments. In addition, from network side, new and novel network architectures such as soft-defined network, cloud-RAN (radio access network) and cognitive radio networks as well as the enabling technologies including virtualization in wireless networks, optical wireless integration, and distributed antenna systems can further improve network efficiency and user experience. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researches which focus on emerging wireless technologies that improve spectrum efficiency, energy efficiency and network efficiency for future mobile networks. TOPICS We are seeking papers that present original and unpublished contributions addressing various emerging wireless technologies for future mobile networks. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to: • Massive MIMO, virtual MIMO, 3-D MIMO/beamforming technologies • Self-organization, -configuration and -optimization for small cell networks • Interference coordination and radio resource management in small cell and HetNets • Load-balancing and traffic offloading schemes in small cell and HetNets • Handover and mobility study in small cell and HetNets • Virtualization in wireless networks • Spectrum sharing and network efficiency for cognitive radio networks • Spectrum efficiency, network efficiency and energy efficiency in cloud-RAN • Distribute antenna system and optical wireless integration Important Dates Submission deadline: October 7, 2013 Notification of acceptance: October 21, 2013 Camera-ready paper due: October 31, 2013 Workshop date: December 3, 2013 Submission instructions Paper submission will be handled electronically (see the instructions on the website). Unlike the traditional host-centric networking paradigm where information is obtained by contacting specified named hosts, ICN aims at providing native network primitives for efficient information retrieval by directly naming and operating on information objects. Foreseeing the need and benefits of developing the Future Internet with ICN concepts as a key ingredient, many leading research groups, both industrial and academic, have created a sizable community devoting their efforts to Information-Centric Future Internet designs and prototype implementations. To date, the work in this area has centered on ICN for (largely static) content storage. Within the wider network research area, there are those who believe ICN cannot work for real time communications, dynamic content and other network scenarios. Strong supporters, on the contrary, believe that ICN can be what comes after the current Internet. Whatever one’s stand on the matter, we observe that architectural papers in this area outweigh implementation oriented and ICN application papers. This special issue aims to address both of these issues. To that end, we seek papers that show ICN’s usefulness in a wide range of applications. We are particularly interested in the kinds of applications where ICN solutions are not immediately obvious. Papers that leave the reader thinking “I had no idea ICNs could be used this way” are particularly welcome. On the other hand, we welcome contributions that make solid arguments for places where ICNs cannot replace the current Internet architecture. The theme of this flagship conference of IEEE Communications Society for 2014 is “Communications: The Centrepoint of Digital Economy.” The conference will feature a comprehensive technical program including twelve Symposia and a number of Tutorials and Workshops. IEEE ICC 2014 will also include an attractive expo program including keynote speakers, and Industry Forum & Exhibitions (IF&E). We invite you to submit your original technical papers, industry forum, workshop, and tutorial proposals to this event. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the IEEE ICC 2014 Conference Proceedings and in IEEE Xplore®. Full details of submission procedures are available at http://www.ieee-icc.org/2014. * **Scope and Topics of Interest* The Internet of Things track will focus on future technologies and research challenges associated to new applications and services bridging the physical and virtual worlds. The Internet of Things is a key enabler for the realization of the new M2M initiative as it allows for the pervasive interaction with/between smart things leading to an effective integration of information into the digital world. These smart (mobile) things - which are instrumented with sensing, actuation, and interaction capabilities - have the means to exchange information and influence the real world entities and other actors of a smart city eco-system in real time, forming a smart pervasive computing environment. The objective is to reach a global access to the services and information through the so-called Web of Things and efficient support for global communications. To ensure complete coverage of the advances in this field, the Internet of Things Track solicits original contributions in, but not limited to, the following topical areas: • Future technologies bridging the physical and virtual words • Architectures for the Internet of Things • Machine to Machine (M2M) protocols • Cloud computing and IoT internetworking • Web of Things and Semantic • Embedded Web Services • Mobile integration of the Web of Things • Adaptation of legacy technologies and RFID to IPv6 • Lightweight structured data (EXI, JSON…) • Indexing, naming, and addressing the Internet of Things • Intelligent data processing for the IoT • Experiences with Open Platforms and hardware within IoT • Novel concepts such as Crowd-sourcing • User-oriented, context-aware IoT services • Semantic technologies for devices and services • Integration of the Handle System • Security, Trust, Privacy and Identity in the IoT • Building automation and smart buildings • New services through mobile computing and smart phones interaction • Experiences and field trials of IoT applications: Smart cities, digital homes, smart grid, e-health, agriculture and environment, manufacturing, logistics, social networking, etc. *Submission Guidelines* Prospective authors are invited to submit original technical papers by the deadline 30 September 2013 for publication in the IEEE ICC 2014 Conference Proceedings and for oral or poster presentation(s).
