Abstract: January 17, 2014
Paper Submission: January 24, 2014
Notification: June 1, 2014
Camera Ready: June 18th, 2014
ACM MobiHoc is the premier international symposium dedicated to
addressing the challenges emerging from wireless networking and
computing. With its highly selective technical program, the symposium
will bring together researchers and practitioners from a broad spectrum
of wireless networking research to present the most up -to-date results
and achievements in the field.
We invite paper submissions on fundamental contributions to a broad
variety of issues related to wireless networking and computing.
Theoretical contributions which enhance design and analysis are welcome
as well as development and application of state-of-the-art, broadly
applicable analytic and measurement-based techniques. Topics addressed
can include, but are not limited to, mobile networks, wireless sensor
networks, wireless mesh networks, vehicular networks, ad hoc computing
systems, social networks, cognitive radio, white-space networking, with
the main focus on the issues at and above the MAC layer. Physical layer
papers that address cross-layer networking issues are also welcome.
* Applications and middleware support
* Cognitive radio networks
* Cross-layer design and control
* Distributed sensing, actuation, control, and coordination
* Energy efficiency
* Functional computation and data aggregation
* Location discovery
* Measurements from experimental systems
* Mobile social networks and self-organization
* Modeling and performance analysis
* Network resilience, fault-tolerance, and reliability
* Network coding
* Opportunistic and delay-tolerant networks
* Performance-oriented applications of game theory, economics, machine
learning, control theory, and signal processing
* Scaling laws and fundamental limits
* Software-defined networks
* System design and testbeds
* Trust, security, and privacy
* Transport, network, and MAC protocols
* Vehicular networks
* White-space networking
The symposium encourages the submission of foundational studies,
including theoretical explorations, as well as novel architectures and
protocols that identify new challenges in the network design, innovative
services and applications that may stimulate further research in times
to come. The symposium will feature a /Best Paper Award/.
Paper Submission Guidelines
All submissions will be handled electronically and must be in PDF
format. Paper submissions for regular papers must be limited to 10 pages
(US letter size, 8.5 x 11 inches) including text, figures, and
references. The font size must be at least 10 points. Accepted papers
will be published in the symposium proceedings. All submitted papers

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] IEEE Communications Magazine: Feature Topic on Disaster Resilience in Communication Networks
CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Communications Magazine
Feature Topic on Disaster Resilience in Communication Networks
*Aims and Scope*
Society's increasing dependence on communication networks, the Internet
and their services is evident from the wide range of activities that use
electronic media, from entertainment to critical operations related to
commerce, finance and life care. Humanity relies on the Internet to
access information, obtain services, manage finances, and communicate
with others.
Businesses use the Internet to transact commerce with consumers and
other businesses. Governments depend on communication networks for their
daily operation and service delivery. The military depends on the Global
Information Grid to execute network centric operations and warfare.
Hence, in addition to transportation-infrastructure, power-generation,
and distribution-grid public/private networks, the Internet and other
publicly accessible communication networks are today critical
infrastructures upon which our lives and prosperity depend.
Given this dependence, vulnerabilities of communication networks and the
Internet can significantly impact our lives. The dependence on
communication networks and the Internet makes them an attractive target
for attacks and intrusions attempting to either obtain information or
disrupt service of individuals, businesses, government and military.
These networks and services are also susceptible to accidents, faults or
natural disasters that can disrupt service. Examples of natural
disasters that compromised the network infrastructure are the hurricanes
Sandy and Katrina.
In the face of these difficulties, the need for greater resilience has
been recognized for wireline and wireless networks and for the Internet.
Resilience has classically been defined as the ability of the network to
provide and maintain an acceptable level of service in the face of
faults, accidents, attacks and natural disasters. This subject has
attracted the attention of researchers, industry and governments around
the world. Today, resilience can be considered an essential
characteristic in the design and operation of networks to withstand the
intrusions described above.
Furthermore, we must now expand resilience to include new requirements,
such as scalability, dynamic and opportunistic topologies, and global
interoperation and interdependence among networks.
This feature topic call-for-papers solicits recent, relevant works
related to disaster resilience, especially in emerging networks. The
main goal is to provide for the *IEEE Communications Magazine *an
overview of the state-of-the-art of resilience, and to identify the new
challenges from emerging network infrastructures in terms of
scalability, heterogeneity, and dynamicity. Works addressing resilience
issues in the context of new communication technologies, such as
software-defined networks, cognitive radio and emerging optical
technologies are of particular interest.
*Topics*
Articles describing original research and development as well as survey
articles related to disaster resilience are solicited. The topics to be
covered by this feature topic include, but are not limited to:
* Disaster resilience for the following technologies:
- LTE, LTE-A, 4G, Small Cells, femto-cells
- Heterogeneous wireless networks
- Access Networks
- Flexible Optical Networks
- Overlay and multi-layer networks
- Virtualized Networks
- Software-Defined Networks (SDN)
- Datacenters, Cloud infrastructures, Networks for Big Data
- Smart Grids, M2M
- Green networks
* Disaster resilience approaches coping with:
- Mitigation and reconstruction of network infrastructure
- Management for post disaster network infrastructure reconstruction
- Network infrastructure adaptive capacity
- Disaster risk reduction
- Risk management and sustainability
- Community and social engagement in providing communication
infrastructure in disaster situation
- Knowledge management and integration
- Public policy and governance to build disaster resilient smart cities
- Energy efficiency
*Submission Guidelines*
Articles should be tutorial in nature and written in a style
comprehensible to readers outside the specialty of the article. Authors
must follow the *IEEE Communications Magazine*’s guidelines for
preparation of the manuscript. Complete guidelines for prospective
authors can be found at
http://www.comsoc.org/commag/paper-submission-guidelines. It is very
important to note that the *IEEE Communications Magazine* strongly
limits mathematical content, the number of figures and tables, and the
number of references. Paper length should not exceed 4,500 words. All
articles to be considered for publication must be submitted through the
IEEE Manuscript Central (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/commag-ieee) by
the deadline.
Select “October 2014/Disaster Resilience” as the submission category.
*Important Dates*

================================================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
WiNMee 2014
The 10th International Workshop on Wireless Network Measurements and Experimentations
(In conjunction with WiOpt 2014.)
================================================================================
http://www.hanalab.org/wiopt2014/w4-winmee.html
SCOPE
---------------------------
The explosion of both wireless technologies and applications as well as the increasing number of radios and frequency bands available demand an understanding of in-field performance to design the next generation of wireless systems. Complex channel properties such as multipath, delay spread, and Doppler effects prevent even the most complex channel models from exactly characterizing repeatable in-situ behavior. Abstract models of devices and energy storage, as well as emerging paradigms such as energy harvesting enabled systems, make estimation of system performance and lifetime quite challenging unless supported by field experiments.
To better understand the potential of novel paradigms and ideas, it is therefore imperative to evaluate these ideas in the field via empirical measurement. While analytical and simulation-based approaches are useful, they are often limited by the simplistic modeling of the wireless protocols and devices, and by the varying and error-prone wireless channel. Even slight misunderstandings can cause drastic performance differences in various research avenues from cognitive spectral sensing to spatial reuse in large-scale network planning to lifetime and amount of tasks which can be performed by Internet-of-Things devices. As a response to these limitations, the need for experimental wireless network measurements has gained wide recognition in the networking research community.
WiNMee 2014 is the tenth edition in the International Workshop on Wireless Network Measurements series that began in 2005, and is intended to bring together researchers in the field of experimental wireless networking and serve as a forum for discussing advances and challenges in experimental wireless network measurements and experimentation.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Experience and measurements from building, designing and/or operating production
and research wireless networks
* Measurement and characterization of wireless network traffic such as WLANs, cellular
networks (including smartphone and mobile application traffic characteristics), wireless
home networks, vehicular ad hoc networks, cyber physical and sensing systems
* Experimental validation of network simulators
* Experimental driven mobile social network and mobility models
* Measurement-based network management and troubleshooting
* Experiences and challenges with wireless measurements, including novel measurement techniques
* Methodologies for validating wireless test-bed results and improving the repeatability of
tests, simplifying experiment setup and reconfiguration
* Methodologies for measuring and characterizing heterogeneous wireless networks
* Techniques and experiences with collecting, archiving, anonymizing, analyzing and sharing wireless measurement data
* Techniques and experimental results on performance measurements of cognitive radio
systems, cyber physical and sensing systems, WLAN and VANET, cellular systems
* Prediction and inference of user access, demand and mobility; estimation and prediction of energy availability

CALL FOR PAPERS
Med-Hoc-Net 2014
The 13th IFIP Annual Mediterranean Ad Hoc Networking Workshop
http://netlab.cs.ucla.edu/medhocnet2014
June 2-4, 2014
Piran, Slovenia
OVERVIEW
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless ad hoc networks have attracted considerable attention from
the research
community in the last several years. Now that many of the fundamental
topics and
challenges have been deeply investigated, the focus is partially
shifting to new
issues, which include data-centric operations, autonomous organization,
service
creation/support, continued operation under intermittent connectivity,
optimization, control, cross-layer design and application scenarios
(road safety,
disaster recovery, smart cities, energy efficient buildings, sensors,
actuators,
wearables, etc.). Moreover, novel and exciting challenges are introduced by
commercial systems adopting the ad hoc paradigm, from mesh, sensor and
vehicular
networks, and by associated delay-tolerant and opportunistic scenarios.
Furthermore, today's market explosion of smart phones is creating new
opportunities for wireless ad hoc social networks, the study of which
requires
the combination of opportunistic ad hoc networking aspects with the
understanding
of social behavior and mobility patterns.
MED-HOC-NET 2014 focuses on all the ramifications of ad hoc networking
research,
not only the classic topics of location management, security/privacy,
topology
optimization/control schemes and resource allocation, but also paying
attention
to novel emerging areas such as green networking, safety/surveillance,
underwater
communications, and coexistence among heterogeneous devices.
The Workshop is endorsed by the IEEE Communication Society and its Technical
Committees for Ad Hoc & Sensor Networks, Information Infrastructure &
Networking,
and Radio Communication, and by IFIP.
Accepted and presented papers will appear in the conference
proceedings published
by the IEEE in IEEEXplore.

> Scope:
>
> The convergence of information technology, the Internet and telecommunication industry generated massive changes in the tourist industry. ICTs has been rapidly adopted by tourist businesses and authorities in a bid to gaining advantage over competitors. e-Tourism emerged as a promising revision of the previous business models and initiatives related to tourism, with the advent of web technologies. ‘Mobile tourism’ extended the notion of e-Tourism to meet the vision of tourist services provision to nomadic users with no spatial–temporal restrictions. The recent developments in mobile hardware and software allowed for the provision of a new range of personalized, context-aware services that were not previously feasible.
>
> Further on, improvements in the area of mobile communications and networking have increased the availability of wireless bandwidth thereby providing new possibilities for exchanging and sharing data among tourists. Smartphones, mobile and wearable sensors, and other portable systems are commonly used to collect and exchange data as well as to infer personal, social and environmental context. Along this line, pervasive technologies open profound opportunities for the tourism industry and have the potential to revolutionize the tourist experience, delivering added-value services to tourists 'on the move'. However, before such applications can be widely deployed and used, several fundamental technical, social and business challenges need to be addressed.
>
> The proposed SI aims at publishing outstanding articles describing innovative applications and frameworks that enable the use of mobile and pervasive technologies in tourism and outline the state of the art in this particularly promising area of research. We invite research papers as well as papers which address challenges in developing industrial-strength mobile and pervasive applications. The list of topics includes, but is not limited to:
> • Novel context-aware applications in mobile/pervasive tourism
> • Context reasoning and modeling in mobile/pervasive tourism
> • Recommender systems in mobile/pervasive tourism
> • Augmented and mixed reality applications in mobile tourism
> • Pervasive games in tourism
> • Novel edutainment applications in mobile/pervasive tourism
> • Novel indoors mobile/pervasive tourist applications
> • RFID/NFC-based mobile tourism applications
> • Travel navigation and assistance applications
> • Participatory sensing applications in tourism
> • Crowd sourcing in mobile tourism
> • Information sharing and social interaction in pervasive tourism
> • User-generated content in mobile tourism
> • Efficient algorithmic solutions in support of computationally-intensive mobile tourist applications
> • Interactive surfaces and walls in support of tourist applications
> • HCI issues and interaction models in mobile/pervasive tourist applications
> • (Innovative) applications requirements, performance, and benchmarking
> • Field trials, user acceptance and evaluation studies
> • Security, privacy, fault-tolerance and resiliency in mobile and pervasive tourism
