Call for Papers - MUCS 2015
===========================
Paper registration: Nov 19, 2014
12th International Workshop on
Managing Ubiquitous Communications and Services
MUCS 2015
http://ubiquitous-management.org/mucs/2015
will be held as a full-day workshop on Monday, March 28, 2015,
as part of the
13th Annual IEEE Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications
PerCom 2015 in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA (23-27 March 2015)
Scope
=====
Ubiquitous Communications and Services, as evidenced in pervasive computing
and smart space applications, present significant management challenges for
successful delivery of highly adaptive services across heterogeneous
networks,
mobile networks, ad-hoc networks, sensor networks, middleware, applications
and devices. Such challenges include: managing user centric services and
context services, extreme distribution and scalability, extensive system &
network & semantic heterogeneity, ad hoc formation and disassociation of
systems and services, intelligent support for user centric applications,
managing smart cities and smart grids, managing software defined networks.
Today’s management systems need to keep pace with the complexity,
heterogeneity and automation required by the pervasive computing vision.
Since 2003, the MUCS workshop has provided a very successful forum for
researchers and practitioners to explore the theoretic, technological and
organizational challenges, and to present advances in management techniques
and technologies for pervasive computing and smart space applications.
The workshop provides a single-track scientific programme containing a
blend of keynote presentations from leaders in research in this area,
peer-reviewed papers, a small selection of invited presentations, and a
topical panel discussion. The goal of the workshop is to investigate the
state of the art in managing pervasive/smart space applications from a
broad perspective.

CALL FOR PAPERS
First IEEE Workshop on Pervasive Energy Services (PerEnergy)
in conjunction with IEEE PerCom 2015
Submission Deadline: November 26, 2014
March 23, 2015, St. Louis, Missouri, USA
http://perenergy2015.cs.uni-bonn.de/
======================================================================
Scope of the Workshop
---------------------
A wealth of unexplored knowledge exists in the power data collected
from smart meters and smart plugs (i.e., metering equipment for
individual wall outlets). Analysis of the data may be used to provide
context-based services (e.g., presence detection), but also serve as
the foundation for novel services (e.g. automated recommendations for
energy savings). To date, the potential of this domain has barely been
explored, although more and more energy data is becoming available due
to the increasing number of deployed smart metering equipment. At the
moment, one of the most important research challenges in smart energy
systems is thus the creation of value-added services that exploit the
information content in energy generation and consumption data in such
a way that they can inspire new functionalities and context models.
The aim of this workshop is thus to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum
for discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in
the numerous opportunities opened up by the use of energy data in
context-aware systems. It furthermore serves as a forum for the smart
energy research community to discuss open issues, novel solutions and
the future development of smart energy management systems in general.
Topics of Interest
------------------
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel architectures for the integration of smart meter/smart plugs
into pervasive computing systems
- Seamless energy meter integration in the design and architecture of
smart home/office spaces
- Applications relying on energy data including, for instance,
energy optimization and sustainable operation of smart
cities, household load disaggregation, generation and load
forecasting, and other means for informed load shifting
- Novel business models relying on energy data
- Collection, processing, and integration of energy data to improve
the control over loads and generation (e.g., distributed renewable
sources)
- Security and privacy considerations in smart energy metering,
including novel means to mitigate privacy and security threats
- Experiences with experimental power metering system prototypes and
pilots
- Power metering testbeds and data sets for the comparison of
household characteristics and processing approaches in a globalized
world
- Industrial use cases showing gaps to be filled by future research
Submission Instructions
-----------------------
Authors are invited to submit regular (full) papers for presentation
at the workshop, describing original, previously unpublished work,
which is not currently under review by another workshop, conference,
or journal. Regular papers should present novel perspectives within
the general scope of the workshop.
Submissions of papers must be formatted according to the IEEE 8.5x11
conference format and must not exceed 6 pages. Papers in excess of page
limits shall not be considered for review or publication.
Accepted papers will appear in the IEEE PerCom '15 Workshops
proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society Press. The authors
of accepted papers must guarantee that their paper will be presented
at the workshop. Each accepted paper requires a full PERCOM
registration to appear in the proceedings (no registration is
available for workshops only).
Submissions are handled through the EDAS system. It is a requirement
that all authors listed in the submitted paper are also listed in
EDAS. The author section of EDAS will be locked after the workshop
submission deadline to ensure that conflicts of interest can be
properly enforced during review. If the list of authors differs
between the paper and EDAS, the paper may not be reviewed.
Further submission instructions can be found on the workshop web page:

computing/communication capacities, huge population, and inherent
mobility makes mobile-device networks a much more flexible and
cost-effective IoT solution than static sensor networks. This promotes
the emergence of a fast-growing consumer-centric sensing paradigm, the
Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS). As an evolution of participatory sensing,
MCS has two unique features: (1) it involves both implicit and explicit
participation; (2) MCS collects data from two user-participant data
sources: mobile social networks and mobile sensing. Various categories
of knowledge (e.g. location, personal and social context, user
feelings/opinions, traffic conditions, and pollution) reported by smart
device users, are shared w!
ithin the social sphere, practitioners, health care providers, and
utility providers, enabling a broad range of applications and services
such as urban dynamic mining, public safety, and environment monitoring.
Numerous research challenges arise from the MCS paradigm including
participatory and opportunistic data collection, incentive mechanism
design, transient networking, quality of user-contributed data, privacy
concerns, and big data processing and analytics. This special issue
provides the opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and application
developers to review and discuss the state-of-the-art and trends of MCS
techniques and applications or propose new solutions. In particular, we
solicit high-quality original research papers on MCS, including but not
limited to the following topics:
- IoT Architecture/Framework for MCS
- Optimized Data Collection Task Allocation
- Communication in Transient Networking Environments
- Crowdsourced Data Processing and Urban/Social Context Mining
- Incentive Mechanisms for Participatory Sensing
- Heterogeneous Crowdsourced Data Fusion
- Dealing with Low Quality Data in MCS
- Trust and Privacy Issues in MCS
- MCS for Social Networking
- Hybrid Human-Machine Intelligence in MCS
- Emerging/Novel MCS Apps and Systems (environment monitoring, public
safety, traffic planning, etc.)

CALL FOR PAPERS
ACM e-Energy 2015
The Sixth International Conference on Future Energy Systems
July 14-17, 2015, Bangalore, India
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/eenergy/2015/
Computing and communication technologies impact energy systems in two
distinct ways. The exponential growth in deployment of these
technologies has made them large-scale energy consumers. Therefore,
new architectures, technologies and systems are being developed and
deployed to make computing and networked system more energy efficient.
Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, these technologies are at
the center of the on-going revolution in next generation “smart” and
sustainable energy systems. They measure, monitor and control energy
systems such as the smart grid; inform and shape human demand; aid in
the prediction, deployment, storage and control of energy resources;
and determine how utilities, generators, regulators, and consumers
measure, analyze, and collectively control system elements.
The sixth International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM
e-Energy), to be held in Bangalore, India in July 2015 aims to be the
premier venue for researchers working in the broad areas of computing
and communication for smart energy systems (including the smart grid),
and in energy-efficient computing and communication systems. By
bringing together researchers in a high-quality single-track
conference with significant opportunities for individual and small
group interactions, it will serve as a major forum for presentations
and discussions that will shape the future of this area.
We solicit high-quality papers in the area of computing and
communication for the Smart Grid and energy-efficient computing and
communications. We welcome submissions describing theoretical advances
as well as system design, implementation and experimentation. ACM
eEnergy is committed to a fair, timely, and thorough review process
providing authors of submitted papers with sound and detailed
feedback.
Relevant topics for the conference include, but are not limited to the
following:
- Advances in monitoring and control of smart homes and buildings
- Sensing, monitoring, control, and management of energy systems
- Energy-efficient computing and communication, including
energy-efficient data centers
- The impact of storage integration on the smart grid
- Electric Vehicle monitoring and control
- Distribution and transmission network control techniques
- Microgrid and distributed generation management and control
- Modeling, control, and architectures for renewable energy generation resources
- Smart grid communication architectures and protocols
- Privacy and security of smart grid infrastructure
- Innovative pricing and incentives for demand-side management
- Novel technologies to enhance reliability and robustness of energy systems
- HCI for energy monitoring, management, and awareness
- User studies and behavioral change enabled by computing and
communication technologies
- Data analytics for the smart grid and energy-efficient systems
- Modeling, management and control of variability and uncertainty in
energy supply and demand
Submissions
Three types of contributions are solicited:
- Regular papers, up to 10 pages in ACM double-column format, should
present original theoretical and/or experimental research in any of
the areas listed above that has not been previously published,
accepted for publication, or is not currently under review by another
conference or journal. Regular papers are intended to describe high
quality research work based on novel ideas that have been thoroughly
evaluated. The 10 pages limit is intended to be an upper bound and we
encourage the authors to take fewer pages if appropriate. The review
process for regular papers will include a thorough evaluation by the
program committee, opportunity for authors to respond to reviews, and
a shepherding process to ensure compliance with review comments before
the paper acceptance is finalized.
- Challenge Papers, up to 6 pages in ACM double-column format, should
present revolutionary new ideas that challenge existing assumptions
prevalent among the e-Energy research community. Challenge papers
should provide stimulating ideas or visions that may open up exciting
avenues and/or influence the direction of future research.
Descriptions of new products or evolution of existing work are not
appropriate topics for papers in this category. While an exhaustive
evaluation of the proposed ideas is not necessary, insight into and
in-depth understanding of the issues is expected. Challenges papers
will be reviewed by the program committee and will be part of the
technical program and published in the proceedings. The title of these
papers must start with the prefix "Challenge:" i.e., "Challenge: Rest
of the Title."
- Poster and Demo Abstracts, up to 2 pages in ACM double-column format
showcasing works-in-progress; accepted posters/demos will be presented
at the conference. Topics of interest are the same as research topics
listed above. Preference will be given to posters/demos where the
primary contribution is from one or more students. Additionally, the
demo abstracts should be accompanied by a third page (which will not
be published) describing the script of the demo to be presented as
well as any special resource requirements (space, networking,
electricity etc.). The title for the abstracts must have the prefix
“Poster Abstract:” or “Demo Abstract:” as appropriate.
The submission must be in PDF format with all fonts embedded, and be
formatted according to the official ACM Proceedings format. Papers
that do not meet the size and formatting requirements will not be
reviewed. Word and LaTeX templates are available at
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates. Please

8-12 June 2015, London, UK
(CFP in PDF Format)
<http://conta.uom.gr/SPIC2015/images/SPIC2015_CFP.pdf>
SCOPE
Recent advances in networking, communications, computation, software,
and hardware technologies have revolutionized the way humans, smart
things, and engineered systems interact and exchange information. The
Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), which are the
major contributors to this area, will fuel the realization of this new,
globally interconnected cyber-world. Yet, the success, prosperity, and
advancement of IoT and CPS systems strongly depend on the security,
privacy and trust of the IoT and cyber-physical devices as well as the
sensitive data being exchanged. While these technologies offer a lot of
new possibilities, the increasing complexity of hardware and software as
well as the worldwide access increase the vulnerability to security
attacks. Successful attacks targeted to IoT devices and CPS systems have
in common that not only a single computer is affected, but also
interconnected technical systems allowing interaction with the physical
world are influenced leading to malfunction of devices and control
systems with severe financial, environmental and health losses. This
fact highlights the need to develop novel tools that will constitute the
heart of a much-needed science of security for IoT and CPS. The goal of
the SPIC workshop is to bring together internationally leading academic
and industrial researchers in an effort to identify and discuss the
major technical challenges and recent results aimed at addressing all
aspects of security and privacy for IoT and CPS.
