[OVERVIEW]
Smartphones (or smart mobile devices) have now truly become a ubiquitous
computing device, a computer that the late Mark Weiser envisioned in his
ubiquitous computing manifesto. Many applications that could only have
been dreamed of, have now become a reality due to the improving
computing, sensing, display and networking capabilities of smartphones.
With applications ranging from productivity, entertainment, enterprise,
social networking, communications and mixed reality, the smartphone is
the 'swiss army knife' of it all. However, there are still many untapped
elements and unlimited possibilities that smartphones can provide
next-generation interactive systems with more intuitive and intelligent
functions and applications that have not been explored much in detail,
especially through the use of computing, sensing and mobile capabilities
of the smartphones.
Making uses of cyber and physical data accessible by smartphones, new
cyber-physical interactive technologies and systems can be designed and
integrated to create novel functionalities, methods and intelligences to
interact with humans for better social experiences, and more intelligent
services and creative applications, such as recommender systems,
advertising platforms, gaming applications that are interactive to the
user smartphones on the spot in a physical environment and situation.
This special issue of ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing,
Communications and Applications provides an opportunity to attract and
bring together mobile computing, cyber-physical systems, ubiquitous
computing, social computing, wireless networking and multimedia
communications researchers along with user interface designers and
practitioners with diverse backgrounds to contribute papers on
theoretical, practical, and methodological issues on next-generation
interactive technologies, systems and applications using smartphones.

=====================
Wireless sensor nodes are small devices that combine computing, sensing,
and communication capabilities. Recently, the wireless sensor network
(WSN) is considered to be able to conduct many interesting applications.
For example, for the smart home service, wireless sensors can be
in-built on electric devices. When a user controls a device by a smart
controller, the corresponding wireless sensor receives the command and
performs appropriate/smart actions. For the industry, wireless sensor
nodes can be used to monitor the vibration of machines. When there is an
abnormal alarm, the sensor nodes can generate an instant report to the
person in charge. Besides the above two examples, there are many other
novel applications developing based on WSN technology, e.g., indoor
localization, disaster monitoring, structure health monitoring, and so
on. These applications have different considerations and requirements
that need to be conquered.
The aim of this workshop is to provide the opportunities for researchers
and industrials to discuss on the achievements on applications that
integrate with wireless sensors. We encourage authors to show possible
scenarios, development of prototyping implementations, and evaluations
on real cases. We further welcome the ideas which integrate with smart
portable devices, involve multiple platforms, and interwork between
different standards/protocols. Potential topics include, but are not
limited to:
-Integration of multiple platforms/protocols/devices in WSN applications
-Sensing devices designing for WSN applications
-Transmission protocol design and standard develop for WSN applications
-Power management and energy conserving for WSN applications
-Data mining and security issues for WSN applications
-Test-beds and platforms for specific WSN applications
-Real case studies/demonstrations/measurements of WSN applications
-Trends and novel applications

The proliferation of new services in the mobile market is driving the QoS
requirements ever higher (in terms of performance indicators spanning
throughput, delays, network coverage etc.). Meanwhile, a multitude of
battery-hungry mobile devices are either connected to the Internet or are

SCOPE AND OVERVIEW
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The evolving information and communications (ICT) technologies present a unique
opportunity to effect the transformation needed to move us towards the goal of
sustainability by helping to reduce our carbon footprint, mitigate and adapt ill effects
of climate change, reduce and repair environmental damage, provide effective disaster
response and recovery, creatively manage overstressed infrastructures in crowded
urban systems, and enhance use of planet friendly materials and technologies. ICT
is already being integrated into many areas of our lives, such as smart management
of city services, transportation, energy distribution and management, health care, etc.,
and this integration is expected to expand deeper and wider in the coming years and
decades. Unfortunately, this ICT proliferation brings in its own challenges of increased
carbon footprint, accelerating obsolescence of electronic equipment and its disposal
issues, increased use of precious natural resources such as water and materials, etc.
These twin problems of reducing the environmental impact of ICT and exploiting ICT
for a more sustainable world form the underlying theme for SustainIT since its
inception in 2010.
This edition of SustainIT continues this theme by focusing on inter-disciplinary
scientific challenges of enhancing the sustainability of ICT and via ICT. The goal
of this conference is to bring together people from different research areas, and
provide a forum to exchange ideas, discuss solutions, and share experiences among
researchers, professionals, and application developers from both industry and academia.
Original papers addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of sustainability
of ICT (including smart energy management) and innovative use of ICT to enhance
human and societal sustainability are solicited.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

- Managing carbon footprint of data centers and increasing its energy efficiency
- Trade-offs between energy efficiency, Quality of Service, and reliability
- Adaptation of computing and communications infrastructure to variable renewable
energy supply
- Emerging computing/storage technologies for energy efficient operation
3) Achieving sustainability through the application of ICT:
- Application of ICT to increase the energy efficiency of smart homes, smart
buildings, and smart cities

The emergence of next generation networking technologies and paradigms,
such as cloud computing and software defined networking, has completely
transformed the way networks are designed, deployed, and managed, and has
brought a multitude of challenges to the spotlight of worldwide research.
In this context, security has been one of the areas of major concern and
thus research interest, especially with the growing demands of the general
public for secure, trustworthy, and privacy-preserving data communication

networks and infrastructures. DISSECT is intended to (1) discussing these
challenges as well as future trends on security management, (2) present and
discuss work-in-progress security-related research on cutting-edge
technologies, and (3) strengthening collaboration and research ties among
peers.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
In this workshop, the research community from industry and academia will be
invited to contribute with manuscripts describing novel, work-in-progress
research on the design of solutions to relevant security issues on a wide
variety of next generation networking technologies. The topics of interest
of the workshop include, but are not limited to
- Secure networking architecture design
