CALL FOR PAPERS
The 2nd IEEE WoWMoM Workshop on Resilient Information and Communication
Technologies for Management of Natural Disasters (RITMAN 2014)
June 16, 2014, Sydney, Australia
http://newslabx.csie.ntu.edu.tw/RITMAN14/
Paper Submission Due: March 8, 2014 (extended)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
GENERAL INFORMATION
--------------------------------
RITMAN 2014 is the second of the workshop series on resilient information
and communication technologies (ICT) for management of natural disasters
and will be held at Sydney, Australia in conjunction with IEEE WoWMoM 2014.
The previous workshop RITMAN 2012 was held in conjunction with the 5th
International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications
(SOCA 2012), December 2012 in Taipei, Taiwan. Disaster management is a
multi-phase process, from mitigation, to preparedness, response, recovery,
to reconstruction.
RITMAN workshops focus primarily on preparedness, response and recovery
phases. In recent years, we have seen tremendous advances in technologies
for the predication and detection of natural disasters. Many standards and
tools have enabled interoperability of diverse sensors, sensor networks
and web services. Open platforms and message exchange standards have
emerged to facilitate alert delivery and support response operations.
Despite these advances, statistics on natural disasters still show that
even technologically advanced regions are not as well prepared and
resilient against calamitous events that bring damage, destruction and
loss of property and life. RITMAN workshop series aims to provide
researchers and developers with a forum for the purpose of stimulating
discussions and collaborations on missing ICT and novel applications
that can enhance preparedness and resiliency against disasters, especially
events of unforeseen sizes and severity.
The central theme of RITMAN 2014 will be the exploitation of wireless and
mobile technologies for disaster preparedness and response. Topics of
interest include but not limited to the following:
- Disaster resilient communication
- Responsive messaging services during mega disasters
- Technology for crowdsourcing disaster surveillance sensor data
- Assessment and reduction of uncertainty in disaster information
- Mobile device based cloud
- Cyber-physical devices and applications for disaster preparedness and
response
- Integration of resources and information in cyber and physical spaces
- Privacy protection of rescue/emergency information
- Disaster information system for resilient communities
PAPER SUBMISSION
--------------------------------
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that
are not being considered in another forum. Manuscripts will be limited to
4 (IEEE style) pages. Please follow the IEEE Computer Society Press

*IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine*
*CALL FOR PAPERS*
*Special Issue: Mobile Wearable Communications*
Mobile wearable devices communications create new challenges compared to
ordinary sensor networks and short range communication. In mobile wearable
communications, wearable devices communicate with each other in a
Peer-to-Peer fashion or client-server fashion and also communicate with
aggregation points (e.g. smartphones, tablet devices and gateways nodes).
Wearable devices are expected to integrate multiple radio technologies for
multiple applications needs with small power consumption and low
transmission delays. These devices can hence collect, interpret, transmit
and exchange data among supporting components, other wearable devices and
the Internet. Data are not limited to people's personal biomedical data but
they also include human-centric social and context data. The success of
mobile wearable communications depends on communication and networking
architectures that support efficient and secure end-to-end information
flows. A key design consideration of future wearable devices is to
ubiquitously connect to smart phones or Internet with very-low energy
consumption. Radio propagation and accordingly channel models may be vastly
different from those in existing wireless technologies. A huge number of
connected wearable devices require novel big data processing algorithms,
efficient storage solutions, cloud-assisted infrastructures, and
spectrum-efficient communications technologies. The aim of this Special
Issue is to present a collection of high-quality articles that report the
latest research advances on mobile wearable communications, including
various topics of interest, but not limited to:
- Wireless wearable communications architectures and systems
- Radio propagation, channel modeling, interference management and
physical layer techniques
- Sensor, actuator, M2M, relay, and NFC for wireless wearable
communications
- Mobile cloud architectures and services for wearable communications
and networking
- Big data processing in wearable networking
- Energy-efficiency, spectrum-efficiency, QoS, robustness, and
fault-tolerance
- Context-aware (e.g., social, location, time) design
- Security, trust, and privacy management
- Performance analysis, model, optimization, monitoring, and control
- Novel applications and services, e.g., wireless wearable
communications for eHealth, sport, fitness, transport safety,
location-based services, and crowd sensing
- Standardization and regulations for wireless wearable communications
and networking

*Call for Papers:**Computer Communications*
*Special issue on **Mobile Ubiquitous** Sensing: from Social Network
Viewpoint*
*Scope:*
The emergence of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has opened up a new
door to information retrieving and built up a bridge between the physical
world and information domain. A major factor that impedes the applicability
of sensor networks is the huge deployment cost and management overhead. The
past few years have witnessed the dramatic proliferation of portable
mobiledevices,
such as smart phones and tablet computers. Notably, these popular
pocket-sized gadgets are embedded with a set of versatilesensors, which
could provide abundant data about individuals, human society and
environments. This new mobile sensor network formed by mobile devices
provides a new horizon for ubiquitous sensing at a low cost.
Under the new paradigm of mobile ubiquitous sensing, each mobile device
is held by an individual. The underlying social tie among individuals will
play an important role in the mobile sensing process. It is, therefore, of
great interest to study the mobileubiquitous sensing from the perspective
of social networks. This issue has not received much attention though the
traditional way of ubiquitous sensing has, instead, been extensively
investigated.
Topics of primary interest include, but not limited to:
l System/platform designs to enable mobile sensing
l Incentives mechanism design to guarantee the coverage, i.e., quality of
sensing.
l Social structure modeling and analysis
l Coverage improvement design via social structure
l Individual behavior modeling and analysis
l Architectural, modeling and simulation of mobile ubiquitous sensing
l New applications on ubiquitous sensing
l Energy-efficient and real-time communication protocols design
l Privacy and security preserving protocol design for mobile sensing

IoT-SoS 2014
3rd IEEE Workshop on the Internet of Things:
Smart Objects and Services
(in conjunction with IEEE WoWMoM 2014)
Sydney, Australia
16 June 2014
http://www.ieee-wowmom.org/iot-sos/2014
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a novel paradigm which is shaping the
evolution of the future Internet. According to the vision underlying the
IoT, the next step in increasing the ubiquity of the Internet, after
connecting people anytime and everywhere, is to connect inanimate
objects. By providing objects with embedded communication capabilities
and a common addressing scheme, a highly distributed and ubiquitous
network of seamlessly connected heterogeneous devices is formed, which
can be fully integrated into the current Internet and mobile networks.
Thus, it allows for the development of new intelligent services
available anytime, anywhere, by anyone and anything.
When human interaction is absent from the system dynamics, the vision
is also referred to as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications. Many
applications with high social and business impact fall under the IoT/M2M
umbrella, including personal healthcare, smart grids, surveillance,
home automation, intelligent transportation, and it is strongly expected
that new applications will emerge once the enabling technologies reach
a stable state.
At the moment, two of the most important challenges for the widespread
use of IoT/M2M technologies are:
1. Architectures, protocols and algorithms for an efficient
interconnection of smart objects, both between themselves and with the
(future) Internet.
2. The creation of value-added services, especially open and
interoperable, enabled by the interconnection of things / machines /
smart objects, in such a way that they can be integrated with current
and new business and development processes.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for
discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in theory,
application, and implementation of the IoT/M2M concepts: Technologies,
protocols, algorithms, and services.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- System architectures for IoT/M2M systems
- Protocols and mechanisms for seamless IoT/M2M communications
- Enabling standards and technologies for the IoT/M2M
- Service platforms for IoT/M2M applications
- Business models and processes for IoT/M2M applications
- Energy optimization and sustainable operation of IoT/M2M devices
- Access network issues; including mobility management, data
dissemination and routing
- Modeling and simulation of large-scale IoT/M2M scenarios
- Experiences with experimental IoT/M2M system prototypes, pilots, and
testbeds
- Security and privacy in the IoT/M2M context
- Industrial use cases showing gaps to be filled by future research
- Novel and emerging IoT/M2M applications; including eHealth/mHealth,
Smart Grids, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Smart Homes and Cities
