-------------------------------
SCOPE AND TOPICS
-----------------------------
The focus of this workshop is on two of the hottest technological trends
that will drive the evolution of the Internet: energy efficiency and
software-defined networks. If jointly applied to the design of
next-generation network devices and infrastructures, these concepts may
revolutionize the network, as we know today, by introducing extreme
flexibility, programmability, virtualization and customization of network
functionalities and their integration within the "Cloud." On one hand,
energy efficiency will be the key for the needed scalability to support "Big
Data" and large-scale network infrastructures and Data-Centers. On the other
hand, energy-efficient approach can take advantage of the network
flexibility provided by Software-Defined approaches.
The topics covered by the proposed workshop will include (but not limited
to):
- Evolution of Software Defined protocols and architectures;
- Network programmability and energy-efficiency;
- Traffic engineering for energy-efficient software defined networks;
- Design of green programmable network devices;
- Programmability for Network devices;
- Energy efficient network integration with the cloud;
- Green support for Big Data;
- Green Data-Centers.
Submissions are limited to 6 pages in IEEE conference format. Papers will
appear in the conference proceedings and will be available on IEEE Xplore.
Submissions are handled through the EDAS system. Upon final camera-ready
paper submission, authors will need to sign an IEEE copyright form for each
accepted paper to comply with IEEE regulations.

*** Call for Papers ***
Cloud computing is entering our lives and changing the way people consume
information dramatically. Clouds transform IT infrastructures with an
emphasis on making them flexible, affordable, and capable of serving
millions of users, satisfying their computing or storage demands. The design
of early cloud computing systems has evolved from, and was dominated by, the
concepts of cluster and grid computing. Currently, as the concepts of the
cloud become advanced and mature, cloud networking and communication
processes begin playing a central role. Cloud Networking has emerged as a
promising direction for cost-efficient and reliable service delivery across
data communication networks. The dynamic location of service facilities and
the virtualization of hardware and software elements are stressing the
communication network and protocols, especially when datacenters are
interconnected through the Internet.
The optimization of cloud networking can significantly increase system
performance, reducing energy consumption and save costs not only inside
individual data centers, but also globally, on the Internet scale.
Developing novel network architectures would facilitate adoption of modular
container-based data centers. Advancements in internetworking become key
enabler for building hybrid clouds and federations of clouds. Service
provisioning over heterogeneous connections and wireless links can enhance
computational capacity and enrich application experience of mobile users.
Efficient resource management and scheduling in data centers and cloud
infrastructures is open research challenge that has to be addressed and
novel architectures, telecommunication technologies, and protocols must be
developed to ensure efficiency of future cloud computing systems.

CALL FOR PAPERS
As the production, storage and exchange of information becomes more
extensive and important in the functioning of societies, the problem of
protecting the information from unintended and undesired usage becomes
more complex. In modern societies, protection of information involves
many interdependent technological and policy issues related to
information confidentiality, integrity, anonymity, authenticity,
utility, etc.
Information Hiding techniques are receiving much attention today.
Digital audio, video, and images are increasingly furnished with
distinguishing but imperceptible marks, which may contain a hidden
copyright notice or serial number, or even help to prevent unauthorised
copying directly. Digital watermarking and steganography may protect
information, conceal secrets, or are used as core primitives in digital
rights’ management schemes.
Alongside the abovementioned types of digital media steganography,
currently the target of increased interest is Network Steganography – a
part of Information Hiding focused on modern networks. It is a method of
hiding secret data in users' normal data transmissions. Steganographic
techniques arise and evolve with the development of network protocols
and mechanisms, and are expected to be used in secret communication or
information sharing. Presently, it becomes a hot topic due to the
proliferation of information networks and multimedia services in
networks and social networks.
The purpose of establishing applications of Information Hiding may
be varied – possible uses can fall into the category of legal actions or
illicit activity. Frequently the illegal aspect is accentuated –
starting from the criminal communication, through information leakage
from protected systems, cyber weapon exchange, up to industrial
espionage. Recently discovered malware like Duqu and Alureon point to
the alleged utilization of Information Hiding techniques in botnets for
covert communication in the C&C channels, which proves that Information
Hiding poses important challenges to investigators. On the other side of
the spectrum lie legitimate uses, which include circumvention of web
censorship and surveillance, computer forensics (tracing and
identification) and copyright protection (e.g. watermarking images).
This special issue intends to present some of the most relevant
ongoing research in the Information Hiding field. Topics include, but
are not limited to the following:
• Steganography and steganalysis (steganology)
• Covert/subliminal channels
• Traffic morphing
• Watermarking (algorithms, security, and attacks)
• Novel applications of Information Hiding
• Information Hiding for digital forensics & counter forensics
• Digital rights management
• Emerging trends in Information Hiding
• Fingerprinting and embedding codes
• Lossless/reversible data hiding
• Security metrics for Information Hiding
• Side-information transmission through data hiding
• Signal restoration/enhancement by data hiding
• Theoretical aspects of information hiding

This year, ICNP solicits two types of papers: regular papers of at most
12 pages each, and concise papers of at most 6 pages each. A regular
paper describes an important research project that has been completed,
whereas a concise paper describes a significant contribution in a
research project that may still be in progress. Thus, the completed
version of any concise paper can be submitted and published in another
venue at a later year. Regular papers and concise papers will have
different submission and notification deadlines and they will be
reviewed by different sets of TPC members.
Submission policy for both regular and concise papers:
1. All papers should adhere to the IEEE Computer conference paper
format (IEEEtran.cls) and the font size should be no smaller than 10 pt.
2. ICNP uses a double-blind review process. The identity of authors
and referees will not be revealed to each other. To ensure double-blind
reviewing, author names and affiliations should not appear in the paper;
bibliographic references should be made in such a way as to preserve
author anonymity; acknowledgement with identifiable names and funding
sources should be removed. Note that own work should be cited as a third
person. Papers violating this double-blind review policy will be
rejected without review. Note that double-blind violations are sometimes
not discovered until well into the review process, so authors are
strongly advised to heed the above requirements at submission time.
3. Authors need to indicate in their submissions all TPC members with
whom they have conflicts of interest. An author and a TPC member have a
conflict of interest if one of the following conditions is satisfied:
(1) They are currently employed at the same institution, or they have
been employed at the same institution within the last 12 months, or they
are going to be employment at the same institution within the next 6
months. (2) The author and the TPC member had an advisor-advisee
relationship. (3) The author and the TPC member have collaborated on a
project, a publication, or a grant proposal within the past 4 years. (4)
The author and the TPC member have family relationship or are close
personal friend. Authors should not improperly identify TPC members as
conflicts to avoid individuals who might review their papers.
4. At least one author of an accepted paper, whether regular or
concise, is expected to register at the full rate of the conference and
to present the paper at the conference, in order for the paper to appear
in the conference proceedings and the IEEE digital library. Papers not
presented by an author at the conference will not appear in the IEEE
digital library.
Integrity policy for both regular and concise papers:
ICNP strictly enforces the following integrity policies. Authors
violating these policies will cause their submissions to be rejected
without review. Furthermore, ICNP may take action against individuals
who have engaged in such violation; example actions include, but are not
limited to, contacting the institutions of the authors and publicizing
the details of the case.
1. Submitted papers should not be previously published nor under review
by another conference or journal. In some cases, the ICNP chairs may
share information about submitted papers with other conference chairs
and journal editors to ensure the integrity of papers under consideration.
2. Authors are prohibited from informing any TPC member of any
identifiable information (such as titles) of their submissions.
Important dates for regular papers:
Paper Submission May 9, 2014, 11:59 PM EST
Acceptance Notification July 4, 2014, 11:59 PM EST
