SENSEAPP 2014
NINTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES
IN BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2014)
Chateau Lacombe Hotel
Edmonton, Canada
8-11 September 2014
http://www.senseapp.org
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Internet of Things is happening! Wireless sensors and actuators are
increasingly networked and continually narrow the gap between the
physical world and cyberspace. Domain-specific sensing deployments in
industrial or home automation scenarios are becoming more and more
common, particularly with the advent of novel sensing platforms such as
smartphones, which allow for interfacing with or extending dedicated
sensor networks. Nevertheless, insights gathered from real-world sensor
network deployments are still scarce and many practical issues in
building sensor network applications persist. A thorough understanding
from a practical/systems perspective is still necessary, including the
hardware platforms of sensor and actor nodes, their operating systems,
the networking of nodes and fresh perspectives from field trials and
applications.
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from both academia
and industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. It serves as a
forum for the sensor network research community to discuss open issues,
novel solutions and the future development of wireless sensor networks
in general. We encourage contributions describing innovative work in the
realm of wireless sensor networks. Topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:
- Experiences from real-world sensor network deployment and applications
- Innovative sensor network applications
- Mobile and participatory sensing applications and deployments
- Integrating sensor networks and the internet of things
- Middleware support for sensor networks
- Programming and debugging sensor networks
- Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks
- Experiences with new sensor hardware
- Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization
- Experiences with communication protocols
- Practical medium access control protocols (MACs)
- Topology control and routing protocols in existing sensor network
deployments
- Fault-tolerance and troubleshooting sensor networks
- Antenna design and experiences with signal propagation
- Experiences regarding energy management and network lifetime
- Configuration and installation support
- Management of large-scale sensor networks and sensing campaigns
- Interconnection between IP and sensor networks
- Interfacing with sensor networks using mobile computing devices
- Large-scale open sensor data sets from real deployments
Submitted papers will be reviewed by three independent experts in the
field. Proceedings of the workshop will be published together with those
of IEEE LCN, and will be available in digital format from the IEEE
Xplore Digital Library.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
Authors are invited to submit original unpublished work, not currently
under review by another conference, workshop or journal. Full papers
should be restricted to 8 camera-ready pages (in 10 pt font, double

*Call for Demos*
Mobihoc 2014 seeks proposals for live demonstrations of mobile computing
technologies. Particularly encouraged are the demonstrations that include
participation by conference attendees. Research prototypes as well as
commercial products are welcome. However, Mobihoc is not an appropriate
forum for marketing or sales presentations. The presenter is expected to
understand the system being demonstrated and explain the technical
contributions of the system to the audience. Demonstrations of previously
published systems are also welcome. Demonstrations will be selected based
on the expected interest from the Mobihoc audience.
A demo submission requires only an extended abstract no longer than two
8.5x11-inch pages, including all figures and references, describing the
demonstration as well as any special requirements (other than a demo
booth/table). The extended abstract should be formatted in 8.5x11-inch
pages, two columns, single-spaced, with a font no smaller than 10-point.
The demo title should begin with "Demo:". Submissions must be in Adobe PDF

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Deadline extended to April 30- CFP: COMCOM special issue on mobile social sensing
*Call for Papers:*
*Special issue on **Mobile Ubiquitous** Sensing: from Social Network
Viewpoint*
*Scope:*
The emergence of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has opened up a new
door to information retrieving and built up a bridge between the physical
world and information domain. A major factor that impedes the applicability
of sensor networks is the huge deployment cost and management overhead. The
past few years have witnessed the dramatic proliferation of portable mobile
devices, such as smart phones and tablet computers. Notably, these popular
pocket-sized gadgets are embedded with a set of versatile sensors, which
could provide abundant data about individuals, human society and
environments. This new mobile sensor network formed by mobile devices
provides a new horizon for ubiquitous sensing at a low cost.
Under the new paradigm of mobile ubiquitous sensing, each mobile device
is held by an individual. The underlying social tie among individuals will
play an important role in the mobile sensing process. It is, therefore, of
great interest to study the mobile ubiquitous sensing from the perspective
of social networks. This issue has not received much attention though the
traditional way of ubiquitous sensing has, instead, been extensively
investigated.
Topics of primary interest include, but not limited to:
l System/platform designs to enable mobile sensing
l Incentives mechanism design to guarantee the coverage, i.e., quality of
sensing.
l Social structure modeling and analysis
l Coverage improvement design via social structure
l Individual behavior modeling and analysis
l Architectural, modeling and simulation of mobile ubiquitous sensing
l New applications on ubiquitous sensing
l Energy-efficient and real-time communication protocols design
l Privacy and security preserving protocol design for mobile sensing
*Tentative Schedule*

This year, ICNP solicits two types of papers: regular papers of at most
12 pages each, and concise papers of at most 6 pages each. A regular
paper describes an important research project that has been completed,
whereas a concise paper describes a significant contribution in a
research project that may still be in progress. Thus, the completed
version of any concise paper can be submitted and published in another
venue at a later year. Regular papers and concise papers will have
different submission and notification deadlines and they will be
reviewed by different sets of TPC members.
Submission policy for both regular and concise papers:
1. All papers should adhere to the IEEE Computer conference paper
format (IEEEtran.cls) and the font size should be no smaller than 10 pt.
2. ICNP uses a double-blind review process. The identity of authors
and referees will not be revealed to each other. To ensure double-blind
reviewing, author names and affiliations should not appear in the paper;
bibliographic references should be made in such a way as to preserve
author anonymity; acknowledgement with identifiable names and funding
sources should be removed. Note that own work should be cited as a third
person. Papers violating this double-blind review policy will be
rejected without review. Note that double-blind violations are sometimes
not discovered until well into the review process, so authors are
strongly advised to heed the above requirements at submission time.
3. Authors need to indicate in their submissions all TPC members with
whom they have conflicts of interest. An author and a TPC member have a
conflict of interest if one of the following conditions is satisfied:
(1) They are currently employed at the same institution, or they have
been employed at the same institution within the last 12 months, or they
are going to be employment at the same institution within the next 6
months. (2) The author and the TPC member had an advisor-advisee
relationship. (3) The author and the TPC member have collaborated on a
project, a publication, or a grant proposal within the past 4 years. (4)
The author and the TPC member have family relationship or are close
personal friend. Authors should not improperly identify TPC members as
conflicts to avoid individuals who might review their papers.
4. At least one author of an accepted paper, whether regular or
concise, is expected to register at the full rate of the conference and
to present the paper at the conference, in order for the paper to appear
in the conference proceedings and the IEEE digital library. Papers not
presented by an author at the conference will not appear in the IEEE
digital library.
Integrity policy for both regular and concise papers:
ICNP strictly enforces the following integrity policies. Authors
violating these policies will cause their submissions to be rejected
without review. Furthermore, ICNP may take action against individuals
who have engaged in such violation; example actions include, but are not
limited to, contacting the institutions of the authors and publicizing
the details of the case.
1. Submitted papers should not be previously published nor under review
by another conference or journal. In some cases, the ICNP chairs may
share information about submitted papers with other conference chairs
and journal editors to ensure the integrity of papers under consideration.
2. Authors are prohibited from informing any TPC member of any
identifiable information (such as titles) of their submissions.
Important dates for regular papers:
Paper Submission May 9, 2014, 11:59 PM EST

Call for papers
The ACM SIGCOMM CoNEXT conference travels to another continent to
complete its first decade as one of the major forums for presentations
and discussions of novel computing technologies that will shape the
future of Internetworking. The goal of the conference is to foster
technical interactions among members of computer and communication
networks research at large through a single track program promoting
their most promising works.
This new installment of the conference is proudly committed to the three
values that made the conference successful for nearly ten years:
Recognizing farsighted excellence, by selectively choosing papers with
substantial novelty and research contribution. Promoting a broad
definition of networking research, by welcoming submissions based on
implementation and experimentation as well as theoretical analysis.
Assuring authors of submitted papers a fair and thorough review process,
with sound and detailed feedback guaranteed to each submissions in
proportion of its scientific merit and potential.
Scope
The Program Committee of ACM CoNEXT seeks papers presenting significant
and novel research results on emerging computer and communication
networks. We especially encour- age submissions that present novel
experimentation, creative use of networking technologies and new
insights made possible using analysis or computing concepts rarely found
among networking researchers.
We invite submissions on a wide range of networking research including :
Networking aspects of mobile, wireless and ubiquitous computing
Networking aspects of operating systems and virtualization architectures
Network control and management, including datacenter, enterprise and SDN
Security and privacy aspects of computer networks and protocols
Theory and performance analysis of networking architectures and
applications
Novel application of other fields to computer networking
We are open to other contributions that stretch networking research
outside of these topics, present new emerging computing trends and
potentially involve unfamiliar techniques. We invite the authors to bear
in mind that the main factor of interest for their work will be the
implications of their results in networking. These should be clearly
substantiated and explained.
Submission
Authors must submit their papers electronically, following the
guidelines available on the ACM SIGCOMM CoNEXT web page.
The committee encourages substantiated results with a succinct
presentation. All papers will be part of a single track. More details
will be provided on the format of the papers closer to the submission date.
The selection of presentations will be based on peer-review by program
committee members. This year, in an effort to inform judgment on the
selection of presented papers, the PC will organize a rolling early
feedback phase. During that time, and before review are completed, PC
members are able to request authors for clarifications, typically on
assumptions made and results obtained. Authors of submitted papers who
receive such a request have the non mandatory option to answer that
request within a week. We encourage this interaction espe- cially to
give a chance to a minority of ”controversial” papers that could be of
special interest to our community, but raises important concerns that
need to be addressed.
Publication
The proceedings of the conference will be published by the ACM.

1st International Conference on IoT in Urban Space (Urb-IoT 2014)
October 27-28 <http://airmail.calendar/2014-10-27%2012:00:00%20GMT+1>,
Rome, Italy.
http://www.urbaniot.org <http://www.urbaniot.org/>
Scope
=====
Urban spaces are the man made microcosms where a number of entities
interact with each other to offer citizens a variety of services, for
instance, buildings and infrastructure, transportation, utility, public
safety, healthcare, education. The interplay between this multitude of
connecting entities creates a complex system with dynamic human,
material, and digital flows. By 2050 the world’s urban population is
expected to grow by 72%. This steep growth creates an unprecedented urge
for understanding cities to enable planning for the future societal,
economical and environmental well being of their citizens. The
increasing deployments of Internet of Thing (IoT) technologies and the
rise of so-called “Sensored Cities” are opening up new avenues of
research opportunities towards that future. Although, there have been a
number of deployment of diverse IoT systems in the urban space, our
understanding of these systems and their implications has just scratched
the surface.
Urb-IoT 2014 is a new conference that aims to explore these dynamics
within the scope of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the new science of
cities. The goal of the conference is to solicit original and inspiring
research contributions from technology experts, designers, researchers,
urban planners, and architects in academia and industry. Bringing
together practitioners and researchers to share knowledge, experiences,
and best practices, Urb-IoT 2014 seeks multi-disciplinary contributions
in the area of
Citizen Awareness and Engagement: Methods and studies for citizen
involvement through participatory sensing or crowd-sourcing for urban
tasks, as well as behavioural change of the citizen through awareness.
Urban Analytics: Understanding the massive digital traces created by IoT
in the urban landscape through big data analytics.
IoT Applications and Services in Urban Context: Urban technologies and
applications that challenge the state of the art and benefit citizens,
decision and policy makers, and urban planners.
Topics
======
Topics are themed by urban space and include, but are not limited to:
Monitoring the pulse of the city
Fusion of heterogeneous urban sources
Understanding urban data using machine learning and mining techniques
Visual analytics of urban data
City as a platform
Participatory and crowd sourcing techniques
Incentification and gamification
Citizen and crowd influence and behavioural change
Data-driven urban planning and design
Crowd behaviour capturing and modelling
Urban mobility and intelligent transportation systems
Smart cities
Real time urban information systems

Submissions
===========
All papers will be reviewed by an international program committee with
the appropriate expertise. At least two members of the Program Committee
and a set of external expert reviewers will review submitted papers. At
a PC meeting, the committee will select the papers to be presented at
Urb-IoT 2014. Research contributions will be selected on the basis of
novelty, technical merit, and a clear presentation. Submissions must
clearly articulate how they relate to solve a particular problem in the
scope of urban spaces. Contributions describing the role of IoT in
understanding urban dynamics as well as real world systems in sensing
and interpreting city scale signal are particularly of interest.
Submitted papers for review must not exceed six (6) pages and should be
in PDF and formatted in the ACM Double Column format. Urb-IoT 2014
adopts a double-blind process for submitted contributions. Authors'
names and their affiliations must not be revealed or mentioned anywhere
in the submission. Detailed format and submission instructions including
style templates for MS Word and LaTex are provided at the conference
website.
