CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue on "Communications Technologies and Infrastructures for Smart
eHealth Systems" in IEEE Systems Journal
SCOPE
Research advances in healthcare domain have facilitated the integration of
different technologies for smart, cost-effective, reliable, and pervasive
health monitoring of chronic diseases - which have affected around one
billion people worldwide. Current research efforts focus on developing
real-time communication methods, mostly for Body Area Networks (BANs) that
are used to deliver patients΄ information effectively. These efforts are
limited to communication within a BAN, however less attention has been given
to connect multiple BANs to remote servers in real-time. In addition, there
is a limited study on the integration of BANs with different technologies
including mobile cloud computing - a technology that may assist in storing
and processing the huge amount of BAN data at competitive costs. Machine to
Machine (M2M) is also considered to be a valuable tool in delivering BAN
data to a remote server/cloud for further analysis. This may assist in
reducing risks and cost of remote health monitoring. Unlike conventional
research in BANs where researchers focused on individual networks, there is
a need to develop innovative communication methods with a focus on complete
and smart eHealth systems. This smart eHealth system must integrate the
aforementioned technologies with multiple BANs, and provide rich healthcare
services to end users. It calls for research on versatile topics ranging
from Physical (PHY) and Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols to BANs
coexistence, traffic characterization, cloud resource allocation, and cloud
monitoring and maintenance. This special issue will focus on novel
communication methods for smart eHealth systems, by identifying new
perspectives and highlight potential research issues and challenges.
Specifically, this special issue will demonstrate how the emerging
technologies including cloud computing and/or M2M could be used in future
healthcare systems. Original review and survey articles will be considered
as well. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- M2M communication methods
- Energy-efficient PHY/MAC and networking protocols
- BANs and mobile cloud computing
- Cloud resource allocation and monitoring
- Wearable and implantable computing
- IoT for smart eHealth systems
- Fault tolerance, reliability and scalability
- Traffic characterization
- Coexistence issues of multiple BANs
- Security and privacy
- QoS issues in BANs/cloud computing
- Experimental and simulation-based methods
- Case studies of smart eHealth architectures
Papers should address the above specific topics from the system perspective
and in the context of eHealth systems in order to be considered for this
special issue.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Authors are invited to submit original research contributions by following
the detailed instructions given in the "Information for Authors" at
http://www.ieeesystemsjournal.org <http://www.ieeesystemsjournal.org/> . In
the cover letter, authors should explicitly state that the paper is
submitted to the "Special Issue on Communication Technologies and
Infrastructures for Smart eHealth Systems". Questions about the special

Theme and Scope
The growing availability of digital contents and the simultaneous cost reductions in storage, processing, and networking is driving the growth of the entertainment technology. While in the past entertainment technology traditionally offered predominantly passive experiences, continual advances in network and computer technologies are providing tools for implementing greater interactivity and for enabling consumers to enjoy more exciting experiences, such as, for example, interactive digital TV, interactive theatre and orchestrated music and sound design. This phenomenon is pulling together an extremely diverse group of experts specializing in different technical areas, such as networking, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, games, animation, multimedia design, human-computer interaction, educational media and software engineering. Even though high-tech entertainment promotes interdisciplinary fusion, yet only the ubiquity of wireless/wired communication is considered!
suitable for accepting the challenge of building a large interactive environment for the delivery of the maximum entertainment value to millions of consumers worldwide. Call for Papers for IEEE Internet of Things Journal Special Issue on "
Mobile Crowd Sensing for IoT".
http://iot-journal.weebly.com/call-for-papers.html
AIMS AND SCOPE
--------------------------------
The ubiquitous sensor-rich mobile devices (smartphones, wearable
devices, smart vehicles) have been playing an increasing important role
in the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoTs), which bridge the
digital space and physical world at a societal scale. Their powerful
computing/communication capacities, huge population, and inherent
mobility makes mobile-device networks a much more flexible and
cost-effective IoT solution than static sensor networks. This promotes
the emergence of a fast-growing consumer-centric sensing paradigm, the
Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS). As an evolution of participatory sensing,
MCS has two unique features: (1) it involves both implicit and explicit
participation; (2) MCS collects data from two user-participant data
sources: mobile social networks and mobile sensing. Various categories
of knowledge (e.g. location, personal and social context, user
feelings/opinions, traffic conditions, and pollution) reported by smart
device users, are shared w!
ithin the social sphere, practitioners, health care providers, and
utility providers, enabling a broad range of applications and services
such as urban dynamic mining, public safety, and environment monitoring.
Numerous research challenges arise from the MCS paradigm including
participatory and opportunistic data collection, incentive mechanism
design, transient networking, quality of user-contributed data, privacy
concerns, and big data processing and analytics. This special issue
provides the opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and application
developers to review and discuss the state-of-the-art and trends of MCS
techniques and applications or propose new solutions. In particular, we
solicit high-quality original research papers on MCS, including but not
limited to the following topics:
- IoT Architecture/Framework for MCS
- Optimized Data Collection Task Allocation
- Communication in Transient Networking Environments
- Crowdsourced Data Processing and Urban/Social Context Mining
- Incentive Mechanisms for Participatory Sensing
- Heterogeneous Crowdsourced Data Fusion
- Dealing with Low Quality Data in MCS
- Trust and Privacy Issues in MCS
- MCS for Social Networking
- Hybrid Human-Machine Intelligence in MCS
- Emerging/Novel MCS Apps and Systems (environment monitoring, public
safety, traffic planning, etc.)
IMPORTANT DATES
----------------------------
- Submissions Deadline: October 1, 2014
- First Reviews Due: February 1, 2015
- Revision Due: March 1, 2015

HotMobile 2015: Call for Papers
——————————————————————————————————————————————-
The 16th Annual International Workshop on Mobile Computing Systems and Applications
ACM HotMobile 2015 Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
12-13 February, 2015 Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA
http://www.hotmobile.org/2015/
——————————————————————————————————————————————-
ACM HotMobile 2015, the Sixteenth International Workshop on Mobile Computing Systems and Applications continues the series of highly selective, interactive workshops focused on mobile applications, systems, and environments, as well as their underlying state-of-the-art technologies. HotMobile’s small workshop format makes it ideal for presenting and discussing new directions or controversial approaches.
Important Dates:
— Paper submission deadline: October 6, 2014, 11:59pm EST
— Notification of acceptance: December 15, 2014
We solicit submissions of papers that (1) focus primarily on applications and systems and (2) propose new directions of research, advocate non-traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate controversy and discussion. We particularly look for position papers containing highly original ideas in the topic areas listed below. However, papers describing other challenges unique to or exacerbated by mobility are also welcome.
• Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility
• Operating system and distributed system support for mobile computing
• Wearable computing, internet of things, sensing, and context-awareness
• HCI issues related to mobile computing
• Security and privacy of mobile computing
• Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or application.
ACM HotMobile 2015 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will be judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance, and likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the workshop. Presenting at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on research ideas at least one year away from a full-fledged conference submission to ACM MobiSys or other high-quality conferences. A full-length paper on the same topic submitted to a conference in less than a year is unlikely to include sufficient new material and more mature ideas.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may not be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will be returned to the author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific peer review process, submissions will be handled as confidential material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages (10pt font size) in PDF format, including all references, figures and tables. The submissions should not be anonymous. Papers should use the standard ACM template, available at: http://www.acm.org/ For more submission guidelines, please visit the conference website.
The papers accepted to HotMobile 2015 will be publicly available from the workshop's website for a limited time window, as per ACM's Digital Library's Policy.
If you have any questions, please email the PC chairs at croy(a)illinois.edu.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR POSTER/DEMO SUBMISSION
---------------------------------
- Submission deadline: October 6, 2014 5pm US EDT
- Acceptance Notification: October 27, 2014
- Camera-Ready version due: November 10, 2014
Vehicular networking and communication systems is an area of significant
importance in our increasingly connected and mobile world. Effective
vehicular connectivity techniques can significantly enhance efficiency
of travel, reduce traffic incidents and improve safety, mitigate the
impact of congestion, and overall provide a more comfortable experience.
Towards this goal, the 2014 IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference (VNC)
seeks to bring together researchers, professionals, and practitioners to
present and discuss recent developments and challenges in vehicular
networking technologies, and their applications.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Applications of vehicular networks, including ITS
- Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications
- Vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications
- Vehicle-to-X (V2X) communications (e.g., with bicyclists, pedestrians,
etc.)
- In-vehicle communications
- Radio technologies for V2X (radio resource management, propagation
models, antennas, etc.)
- Protocols for vehicular networks (MAC / link layer, routing, mobility
management, dissemination, transport, applications etc.)
- Architectures, algorithms and protocols for data dissemination,
processing, and aggregation in vehicular networks
- Security, privacy, liability, and dependability in vehicular networks
- Network and QoS management for vehicular networks
- Simulation and performance evaluation techniques for vehicular networks
- Results from experimental systems, testbeds, and pilot studies
- Impact assessments of vehicular networks on safety, transportation
efficiency, and the environment
- Communications related to electric and hybrid vehicles
- Heterogeneous networking approaches (multi-radio, multi-application)
- Integration of V2V with on-board systems and networks
IEEE VNC 2014 will continue the tradition from previous editions to
include a poster session to allow the authors to closely interact with,
and obtain feedback from, the conference audience on new or on-going
research contributions related to vehicular networking. Posters are
especially suited for presenting controversial research directions that
may generate discussion, or promising ideas not yet fully validated
through complete extensive evaluation. IEEE VNC 2014 will also include a
demonstration session for researchers to showcase their latest
prototypes with media, models, or live demonstrations. The demo session
will be co-located with the poster session to ensure maximum visibility
and a close interaction with the conference audience. We solicit
proposals for demonstrations related to vehicular networking, describing
either mature or innovative systems and prototypes developed for
commercial use or for research purposes, from industries as well as
universities. We espe!
cially encourage demos on validating important research issues or
showcasing prototypes that demonstrate realistic applications.
---------------------------------
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
---------------------------------
All paper submissions must be written in English and must be formatted
in standard IEEE 2-column format. The mandatory IEEE template in
Microsoft Word and LaTeX format can be found at the IEEE templates page.
Only Adobe PDF files will be accepted for the review process. All
submissions must be made electronically. Submission instructions will be
provided at a later time.
We will consider two different categories of papers:
Full papers should describe novel research contributions and are limited
in length to eight (8) printed pages (10-point font) including figures,
tables, and references. Papers exceeding 8 pages will not be accepted at
EDAS, nor reviewed at all.
Short papers should be more visionary in nature and may report on work
in progress without finished results. They are meant to present novel
perspectives, so as to foster discussion about innovative directions and
new points of view. They are limited to at most four (4) pages including
figures, tables, and references, but might in many cases be even
shorter. Accepted short papers will be included in the proceedings and
there will be given (a shorter) time for oral presentation at the
conference.
Poster/demo paper should be a 2-page paper following the VNC 2014 paper
format (standard IEEE 2-column format and using 10-point font). All
paper submissions must be written in English. The title of the paper
should begin with either “Poster:” or “Demo:”. Optionally, a poster
paper submission can also include an electronic copy of the poster.
A demo paper submission should include an overview of the demonstration
set-up (the inclusion of photographs of the demonstrator are encouraged)
and the results that will be showcased to the attendees. We also
encourage the authors of the demo papers to include a link to a short
2-min demonstration video for the reviewers to facilitate the evaluation
of the quality of the demonstration proposal. If a video is included, it
will be downloaded by the demo co-chairs such that it can be hosted on
our website to ensure the anonymity of the reviewers. The videos of
accepted demonstration proposals will then also be advertised on the
conference website. For all accepted demonstration proposals, the demo
co-chairs will follow up with the authors to obtain requests for
required equipment and/or facilities (power outlets, Internet
connections, table dimensions, etc.). Demonstrations may be supported by
a poster describing the general set-up of the demonstration, its
background, and the!
technical content to be demonstrated. The authors should inform the
demo co-chairs if an accompanying poster will be presented.
Please note that the full paper and short paper categories target
different kinds of contributions. Different from previous editions of
VNC, we will not move papers between submission categories: a paper will
either be accepted for the category where it has been submitted, or it
will be rejected. Full papers will not be “downgraded” to short papers
or poster or demo papers. Therefore, please be sure to carefully assess
for yourself prior to submission which is the most suitable submission
category for your paper, and to make sure that the presentation in the
manuscript is well suited to the aims of this category. Posters/demo
papers are also accepted (more info about submission guidelines at:
http://www.ieee-vnc.org).
All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will appear
in the conference CD proceedings and will be submitted to the IEEE
Xplore Digital Library. Please note that for every accepted papers,
poster or demo paper, at least one person must register for the
conference and present the poster or demo.
---------------------------------

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue of the International Journal on Network Management (IJNM):
"Measure, Detect and Mitigate – Challenges and Trends in Network Security"
Submission Deadline: December 1, 2014 Publication: September, 2015
Scope of the Special Issue
Cybercrime has developed rapidly within the last decade and in
particular the last years have seen an unprecedented amount of
attacks. Despite increased national as well as international effort
against cybercrime and the global financial crisis, cybercrime still
has double-digit annual growth rates. On the one hand, more and more
services and systems migrate to the Internet and cloud storage
systems. On the other hand, the commercial success of the Internet and
the possibilities to carry out attacks from a relatively safe distance
attracts criminals and made e-Crime to a multi-billion dollar market.
In addition, recent trends have highlighted that not only end-hosts
are the target of attacks, but also the Internet infrastructure
itself, with attacks aiming at impeding the functioning of e.g., the
Domain Name System (DNS) or Internet backbones.
The dramatic trends in attack evolution call upon innovative
solutions. Nowadays, detection and mitigation of network attacks are
more than ever a must. However, current solutions need to evolve fast
in order to cope with new attack scenarios. The goal of this Special
Issue is twofold. We encourage, on the one hand, contributions
characterizing and measuring emerging network threats; on the other
hand we welcome submissions presenting cutting-edge detection and
mitigation techniques effective against network attacks and insider
activities in today and future small-to-enterprise sized networks and
in backbones.
Areas of Interest
Contributions in the following areas are of specific interest, but not
limited to:
* Identification and Classification of Attacks
* Network Measurements to Understand Cyber-criminal activities
* Network Attacks Characterization
* Multi-Layer Network Detection
* Inter-Domain and Cooperative Detection and Mitigation
* Detection in Encrypted Networks
* Supervised/Unsupervised Network Detection
* Alert and Event Correlation
* Visualization of Network Attacks and Alerts
* Interaction of Detection Systems and Exchange Formats
* Future Trends in Network Detection and Mitigation
* Mitigation of Large-Scale Distributed Attacks
