Wireless vehicular communication systems constitute the backbone of
intelligent transportations systems (ITS). Currently, wireless
communication informs the human driver. In the future wireless
communications will influence the movement of vehicles. Automated
driving and driver assistance systems require the exchange of kinematic
information in distributed control algorithms with very short latency.
Future ITS that network automated vehicles with the goal of zero
accidents have the potential to save more than 1 Mio. human lives and
avoid 8 Mio. serious injuries worldwide every year.
Dependable wireless communications with short-latency, low outage
probability over non-stationary vehicular communication channels is a
challenging task. It involves a multi disciplinary effort including
vehicular channel measurements, characterization and modeling;
cooperative communications; and low-latency protocol design. A
dependable wireless communication framework will be essential for
vehicular ad-hoc networks, device-to-device communication links in
future 5G systems, and cyber physical systems in general.
The goal of the workshop is to solicit the development of dependable
vehicular communication systems. This workshop will bring together
academic and industrial researchers to identify and discuss technical
challenges and recent results related to dependable vehicular
communications.
The workshop will be co-located with IEEE ICC 2015, the International
Conference on Communications (http://www.ieee-icc.org/), in London, UK.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
- Vehicular channel measurements
- Channel characterization and modeling
- Channel estimation algorithms
- Cooperative communications for vehicular scenarios
- Signal processing techniques
- Protocols for cooperative communications
- Integration of vehicular networks in 5G systems

In Conjunction with IEEE PerCom 2015
St. Louis, USA, March 23-27, 2015
********************************************************************
Dear Colleagues,
Please, find below the CfP for the 2nd International Workshop on Crowd
Assisted Sensing, Pervasive Systems and Communications (CASPer 2015),
held in conjunction with the 13th IEEE International Conference on
Pervasive Computing and Communications (PerCom 2015).
This call for papers and other information about the workshop
can be found at the following website:
http://casper2015.uns.ac.rs
Call for Papers
With phones in their pockets, millions of people have access to
sensing, computation, and connectivity, making it possible to harness
the power of the crowd to collect and share data about their
surroundings and experiences on a massive scale. Crowdsensing/
crowdsourcing is a novel data collection paradigm that leverages this
vast mobile sensor network, making it possible to expand the scope of
research endeavors and address civic issues without requiring the
purchase of specialized sensors or the installation and maintenance of
network infrastructure. Data collected using such applications may come
from unexpected yet interesting and valuable sources and may allow for
collecting data in previously inaccessible locations and contexts.
This new data collection paradigm introduces several research
challenges. Privacy is a primary concern for users that are
contributing sensitive or identifying data. Incentive mechanisms for
participation may be needed to encourage people to volunteer their
resources to collect data. Methods are needed for processing large-
scale, user-generated data sets into meaningful information, and for
assessing and understanding the quality of information to help guide
decision-making. Approaches that involve the crowd in such data
analysis tasks, with humans serving as a source of semantic
information, interpretation, and evaluation of crowdsensing/
crowdsourcing data, can also help to build an understanding of the
physical, computational, and socio-technical environment.
The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for discussion,
debate, and collaboration focused on ideas, trends, techniques, and
recent advances in crowdsensing/crowdsourcing. We invite original
research contributions that advance the state of the art as well as
position papers that pose a new direction or present a controversial
point of view. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Algorithms to handle, process, and visualize large-scale
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data sets
* Data integrity, security, privacy, and provenance for
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data
* Determining and assessing Quality of Information for
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data
* Crowd-assisted (human-in-the-loop) approaches to analyzing
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data
* Context modeling and reasoning in crowdsensing/crowdsourcing
applications
* Incentive mechanisms for participation in
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
* Supporting crowdsensing/crowdsourcing in heterogeneous networks
* Crowdsensing/crowdsourcing for pervasive systems
* Novel use of sensors for crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
* Energy-efficient mechanisms for crowdsensing/crowdsourcing
applications
* Programming abstractions and middleware for
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
* Novel large-scale crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
Submitted papers must be original contributions that are unpublished
and are not currently under consideration for publication by other
venues. Submissions are limited to a maximum length of 6 pages and must
adhere to IEEE format (2 column, 10 pt font). Templates are available
via the workshop website. Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE
PerCom Workshop Proceedings.
Note, that each accepted paper requires a full PERCOM registration
(no registration is available for workshops only)!

The 16th Annual International Workshop on Mobile
Computing Systems and Applications
ACM HotMobile 2015 Sponsored
by ACM SIGMOBILE
12-13 February, 2015 Santa
Fe, New Mexico, USA
http://www.hotmobile.org/2015/
——————————————————————————————————————————————-
ACM HotMobile 2015, the Sixteenth International Workshop on Mobile
Computing Systems and Applications continues the series of highly
selective, interactive workshops focused on mobile applications,
systems, and environments, as well as their underlying state-of-the-art
technologies. HotMobile’s small workshop format makes it ideal for
presenting and discussing new directions or controversial approaches.
Important Dates:
— Paper submission deadline: October 13, 2014, 11:59pm EST
— Notification of acceptance: December 15, 2014
We solicit submissions of papers that (1) focus primarily on
applications and systems and (2) propose new directions of research,
advocate non-traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate
controversy and discussion. We particularly look for position papers
containing highly original ideas in the topic areas listed below.
However, papers describing other challenges unique to or exacerbated by
mobility are also welcome.
• Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility
• Operating system and distributed system support for mobile computing
• Wearable computing, internet of things, sensing, and context-awareness
• HCI issues related to mobile computing
• Security and privacy of mobile computing
• Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they
focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or
application.
ACM HotMobile 2015 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions
will be judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical
relevance, and likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the
workshop. Presenting at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on
research ideas at least one year away from a full-fledged conference
submission to ACM MobiSys or other high-quality conferences. A
full-length paper on the same topic submitted to a conference in less
than a year is unlikely to include sufficient new material and more
mature ideas.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may
not be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers
accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will
be returned to the author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific
peer review process, submissions will be handled as confidential
material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages (10pt font size)
in PDF format, including all references, figures and tables. The
submissions should not be anonymous. Papers should use the standard ACM
template, available at: http://www.acm.org/ For more submission
guidelines, please visit the conference website.
The papers accepted to HotMobile 2015 will be publicly available from
the workshop's website for a limited time window, as per ACM's Digital
Library's Policy.
If you have any questions, please email the PC chair at croy(a)illinois.edu.

CALL FOR PHD FORUM SUBMISSIONS
NetSys 2015
2nd International Conference on Networked Systems
https://www.netsys2015.com/calls/call-for-phd-forum/
Cottbus, Germany, March 9-13, 2015
========================================================================
The doctoral colloquium at the Networked Systems 2015 follows the
tradition and format of similar events at international conferences
such as PerCom, UbiComp, and Pervasive. The aim is twofold. First, it
should provide PhD students in an early phase of their career with an
opportunity to discuss their topics with experts and gain general
feedback as well as specific comments on their proposal. Second, the
PhD Forum is an excellent opportunity for young researchers to start a
personal network with other PhD students as well as with already
established experts.
The aim of the doctoral colloquium is to discuss research topics and
PhD projects at different – typically – early stages. The colloquium
aims at a friendly atmosphere which shall inspire the participants and
put them – and their research – in the focus. A panel of experts will
discuss the research based on a short presentation. Interactivity and
discussion are the the goal. In addition to the colloquium a
presentation of all participants at the main conference will take place
as a poster session. A brief introduction of the topics (One-Minute-
Madness) is used to attract conference participants.
Submission Process:
-------------------
Prospective participants are required to submit their application
documents via email (chairs(a)netsys2015.com):
* Research Statement: a two-page abstract that sketches the research
proposal of the PhD student, the contribution to knowledge and how the
research will advance the state of the art.
* Curriculum Vitae: a one brief CV that lists the education, research
interests and - if available - publications.
In addition, a poster has to be presented at the main conference in a
special PhD poster session.
Important Dates:
----------------
* Submission Deadline: November 7th, 2014
* Notification of Acceptance: December 15th, 2014
* PhD Forum: March 9th, 2015
PhD Forum Chairs:

European Workshop on Testbed-Based Wireless Research
November 19th 2014
KTH Main Campus, Stockholm, Sweden
web:http://people.kth.se/~perz/ewtbwr/2014/ws.html
Following up on the successful "scandinavian workshop on testbed based
wireless research" of last year we are happy to announce the more
ambitious first
"European workshop on testbed based wireless research" which will
also be held at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH.
### Workshop scope ###
Over the last decade software-defined radios have become an important
tool for evaluating novel ideas on algorithms and protocols for wireless
communications and networking. This has been recognized by many research
groups in academia and industry, leading to a steady proliferation of
wireless testbed equipment around the world. This is accompanied by a
massive increase in research output related to experimental evaluation
rather than traditional methods like mathematical analysis or simulations.
In this workshop, we intend to offer the community a meeting venue for
knowledge exchange in a rather informal way. The workshop is dedicated to
1. The presentation of novel research results at an early stage without
formal paper submission, reviewing and a subsequent workshop proceeding.
This gives researchers the opportunity to get feedback on their work at
an early stage, likely improving subsequent publications.
2. Sharing prototyping best-practice and development experience with
other researchers and developers in the community, and discussing
initiatives and concerns with respect to different development platforms
together with representatives of the platform development teams.
To achieve this, the workshop is composed of three different parts:
- Presentation slots for (early) research results, accompanied by an
abstract but no formal paper published later in a proceeding.
- Poster and demo presentations also accompanied by an abstract but no
paper presented in a proceeding.
- Parallel two-hour community meetings, with Mango and National
Instruments respectively. The two communities will present the latest
new from their respective development platforms USRP (National
instruments) and WARP (Mango). These community meetings will also have
the opportunity for researchers to discuss their concerns, needs, ideas,
suggestions etc. with the company representatives and the broader
community.
For paper, poster or demo presentation, we solicit contributions in
the broad areas of wireless communications and networking as long as
they are related to experimental work. Areas of interest are (but not
limited to):
- Physical layer design
- Protocol design, not only limited to the medium access control layer
- Network optimization and management
- Validation results, i.e. performance comparisons between theoretical
and experimental work
- Tools for experimental platforms (i.e. new libraries, novel
hardware/software designs etc.)
### Registration ###
For participants the workshop is free of charge, i.e. we do not request
a registration fee. However, participants need to register:
- Pure participation requires a registration by November 1st.
- Talks need to be registered with a title and an abstract by October
15th. The organizing committee will decide on the assignment of
presentation slots if we receive too many registrations for talks. The
slot assignments will be based on relevance to the workshop community
and novelty of the contribution.
- Demos are accepted as they are proposed, as well as poster
presentations. Here, we request a registration by November 1st.
Abstracts for talks and demos should be limited to two pages in IEEE
conference style format.
Please register talks, demos and/or participation by sending an email to
per.zetterberg(a)ee.kth.se with subject [EWT] .

Vehicular networking and communication systems is an area of significant importance in our increasingly connected and mobile world. Effective vehicular connectivity techniques can significantly enhance efficiency of travel, reduce traffic incidents and improve safety, mitigate the impact of congestion, and overall provide a more comfortable experience. Towards this goal, the 2014 IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference (VNC) seeks to bring together researchers, professionals, and practitioners to present and discuss recent developments and challenges in vehicular networking technologies, and their applications.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Applications of vehicular networks, including ITS
- Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications
- Vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications
- Vehicle-to-X (V2X) communications (e.g., with bicyclists, pedestrians, etc.)
- In-vehicle communications
- Radio technologies for V2X (radio resource management, propagation models, antennas, etc.)
- Protocols for vehicular networks (MAC / link layer, routing, mobility management, dissemination, transport, applications etc.)
- Architectures, algorithms and protocols for data dissemination, processing, and aggregation in vehicular networks
- Security, privacy, liability, and dependability in vehicular networks
- Network and QoS management for vehicular networks
- Simulation and performance evaluation techniques for vehicular networks
- Results from experimental systems, testbeds, and pilot studies
- Impact assessments of vehicular networks on safety, transportation efficiency, and the environment
- Communications related to electric and hybrid vehicles
- Heterogeneous networking approaches (multi-radio, multi-application)
- Integration of V2V with on-board systems and networks
IEEE VNC 2014 will continue the tradition from previous editions to include a poster session to allow the authors to closely interact with, and obtain feedback from, the conference audience on new or on-going research contributions related to vehicular networking. Posters are especially suited for presenting controversial research directions that may generate discussion, or promising ideas not yet fully validated through complete extensive evaluation. IEEE VNC 2014 will also include a demonstration session for researchers to showcase their latest prototypes with media, models, or live demonstrations. The demo session will be co-located with the poster session to ensure maximum visibility and a close interaction with the conference audience. We solicit proposals for demonstrations related to vehicular networking, describing either mature or innovative systems and prototypes developed for commercial use or for research purposes, from industries as well as universities. We espe!
cially encourage demos on validating important research issues or showcasing prototypes that demonstrate realistic applications.
---------------------------------
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
---------------------------------
Poster/demo paper should be a 2-page paper following the VNC 2014 paper format (standard IEEE 2-column format and using 10-point font). All paper submissions must be written in English. The title of the paper should begin with either “Poster:” or “Demo:”. Optionally, a poster paper submission can also include an electronic copy of the poster.
A demo paper submission should include an overview of the demonstration set-up (the inclusion of photographs of the demonstrator are encouraged) and the results that will be showcased to the attendees. We also encourage the authors of the demo papers to include a link to a short 2-min demonstration video for the reviewers to facilitate the evaluation of the quality of the demonstration proposal. If a video is included, it will be downloaded by the demo co-chairs such that it can be hosted on our website to ensure the anonymity of the reviewers. The videos of accepted demonstration proposals will then also be advertised on the conference website. For all accepted demonstration proposals, the demo co-chairs will follow up with the authors to obtain requests for required equipment and/or facilities (power outlets, Internet connections, table dimensions, etc.). Demonstrations may be supported by a poster describing the general set-up of the demonstration, its background, and the!
technical content to be demonstrated. The authors should inform the demo co-chairs if an accompanying poster will be presented.
All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will appear in the conference CD proceedings and will be submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Please note that for every accepted papers, poster or demo paper, at least one person must register for the conference and present the poster or demo.
