EXTENDED DEADLINE: 3 October 2014
---------------------------------
MidSEE 2015
1st Workshop on Middleware for a Smarter Use of Electric Energy
in conjunction with NetSys 2015
March 12, 2015
Cottbus, Germany
https://www.netsys2015.com/workshops-tutorials/midsee/
========================================================================
MOTIVATION & WORKSHOP SCOPE
Smart energy meters are increasingly installed in newly constructed
buildings worldwide, as regulated by, e.g., the European Union's Energy
Services Directive. Their combination with the vision of an Internet
of Things, in which billions of embedded devices will continually
monitor the environment, enables the fine-grained monitoring of
household and office energy usage and hence a large range of novel
services. While many such functions have been devised so far (e.g.,
advice how to save energy or the disaggregation of electricity bills),
these solutions commonly rely on the availability of hard- and software
systems by a single manufacturer. Interoperability, including the
potential to integrate new energy metering devices, is mostly
unsupported due to the wide variety of (non-compatible) standards and
communication protocols.
This workshop provides a platform to present current research
activities in communications and processing of energy consumption data,
with its primary focus on electric energy usage. The scope of the
workshop includes contributions that address the integration of energy
metering equipment from different manufacturers into a single
middleware system which operates on a building level, as well as novel
means to collect, process and visualize these data. Accepted papers
will not only present novel research results in these domains, but also
comprise an evaluation in which their merits are assessed.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel energy metering hardware designs and experiences
- Data collection and command distribution protocols for energy
management systems
- Middleware systems for energy data, including novel local data
processing algorithms
- Control of alternative energy sources to increase their production
efficiency
- Innovative tools to model and visualize energy expenditure and
production
- Sensing and actuation of electrical loads
- Privacy and security in energy management middleware systems
- User interfaces for energy display, management and control
PAPER SUBMISSION
Authors are invited to submit papers of up to 6 pages in IEEE
two-column format. Submissions must be original and should not have
been published previously or be under consideration for publication
while being evaluated for this workshop. Accepted papers will be
published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. More details about the
submission process can be found on the website.

——————————————————————————————————————————————-
The 16th Annual International Workshop on Mobile
Computing Systems and Applications
ACM HotMobile 2015 Sponsored
by ACM SIGMOBILE
12-13 February, 2015 Santa
Fe, New Mexico, USA
http://www.hotmobile.org/2015/
——————————————————————————————————————————————-
ACM HotMobile 2015, the Sixteenth International Workshop on Mobile
Computing Systems and Applications continues the series of highly
selective, interactive workshops focused on mobile applications,
systems, and environments, as well as their underlying state-of-the-art
technologies. HotMobile’s small workshop format makes it ideal for
presenting and discussing new directions or controversial approaches.
Important Dates:
— Paper submission deadline: October 6, 2014, 11:59pm EST
— Notification of acceptance: December 15, 2014
We solicit submissions of papers that (1) focus primarily on
applications and systems and (2) propose new directions of research,
advocate non-traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate
controversy and discussion. We particularly look for position papers
containing highly original ideas in the topic areas listed below.
However, papers describing other challenges unique to or exacerbated by
mobility are also welcome.
• Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility
• Operating system and distributed system support for mobile computing
• Wearable computing, internet of things, sensing, and context-awareness
• HCI issues related to mobile computing
• Security and privacy of mobile computing
• Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they
focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or
application.
ACM HotMobile 2015 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions
will be judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical
relevance, and likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the
workshop. Presenting at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on
research ideas at least one year away from a full-fledged conference
submission to ACM MobiSys or other high-quality conferences. A
full-length paper on the same topic submitted to a conference in less
than a year is unlikely to include sufficient new material and more
mature ideas.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may
not be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers
accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will
be returned to the author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific
peer review process, submissions will be handled as confidential
material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages (10pt font size)
in PDF format, including all references, figures and tables. The
submissions should not be anonymous. Papers should use the standard ACM
template, available at: http://www.acm.org/ For more submission
guidelines, please visit the conference website.
The papers accepted to HotMobile 2015 will be publicly available from
the workshop's website for a limited time window, as per ACM's Digital
Library's Policy.
If you have any questions, please email the PC chair at croy(a)illinois.edu.

********************************************************************************************
The First IEEE International Workshop on
Security and Privacy for Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems
(SPIC 2015)
Organized in conjunction with
IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC 2015)
8-12 June 2015, London, UK
********************************************************************************************
Sponsored by IEEE Communications Society
-----------------------------------------------
SCOPE
-----------------------------------------------
Recent advances in networking, communications, computation, software, and
hardware technologies have revolutionized the way humans, smart things, and
engineered systems interact and exchange information. The Internet of
Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), which are the major
contributors in this area, will fuel the realization of this new, globally
interconnected cyber-world. Yet, the success, prosperity, and advancement
of IoT and CPS strongly depend on the security, privacy, and trust of the
IoT and cyber-physical devices as well as the sensitive data being
exchanged. While these technologies offer a lot of new possibilities, the
increasing complexity of hardware and software as well as the worldwide
access increase the vulnerability to security attacks Successful attacks
targeted to IoT devices and CPS have in common that not only a single
computer is affected, but also interconnected technical systems allowing
interaction with the physical world are influenced, leading to malfunction
of devices and control systems with severe financial, environmental, and
health losses. This fact highlights the need to develop novel tools that
will constitute the heart of a much-needed science of security for IoT &
CPS. The goal of the SPIC workshop is to bring together internationally
leading academic and industrial researchers in an effort to identify and
discuss the major technical challenges and recent results aimed at
addressing all aspects of security and privacy for IoT and CPS.
-----------------------------------------------
TOPICS OF INTEREST
-----------------------------------------------

Workshop solicits original contributions in, but not limited to, the
following topical areas:
- Security, Privacy, and Trust for IoT and CPS
- Secure IoT and CPS architectures
- Detecting and preventing attacks in IoT devices and CPS
- Evaluation of Threats, Attacks, and Risks in IoT and cyber-physical
devices
- Data Security and Privacy in the IoT
- Game Theory for IoT and CPS Security
- Security and Privacy in IoT RFID, sensors, actuator technologies,
applications and services
- Security in Smart Grids and Smart Spaces
- Network-distributed sensor processing for security solutions in CPS
- Joint security and privacy aware protocol design
- Test-bed and performance metrics of security solutions in CPS

CALL FOR PAPERS
Real Time Context 2015
1st Workshop on Interdisciplinary Advances in Real Time Context
Awareness
March 13, 2015
In conjunction with NetSys 2015, Cottbus, Germany
https://www.netsys2015.com/workshops-tutorials/realtimecontext/
========================================================================
Recognition, processing and prediction of real time context data (also
known as “real time context awareness”) breaks the border from static
predefined reaction to user and situation specific, proactive
operation. In order to achieve real time context awareness, data
related to personal context needs to be sensed and used. This bears
technical, and at the same time legal and psychological implications.
The 1st Workshop on interdisciplinary advances in real time context
awareness addresses researchers who focus on technical, legal,
psychological aspects, and especially interdisciplinary research on
real time context awareness.
The ubiquitous availability of sensors in mobile and personal devices
(e.g. smartphones) enables the collection of personal situation
specific user data. This data can be used for real time context aware
applications. At the same time, legal and psychological issues emerge
when processing personal user data. Therefore, we invite researchers in
computer science and related disciplines to submit original work on
advances and interdisciplinary research on real time context awareness.
Topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Real time context data processing, and forecasting
* Security and privacy in real time context awareness
* Legal implications and requirements of real time context aware systems
* Psychological implications and requirements of real time context
aware systems
Important Dates:

[OVERVIEW]
Smartphones (or smart mobile devices) have now truly become a ubiquitous
computing device, a computer that the late Mark Weiser envisioned in his
ubiquitous computing manifesto. Many applications that could only have
been dreamed of, have now become a reality due to the improving
computing, sensing, display and networking capabilities of smartphones.
With applications ranging from productivity, entertainment, enterprise,
social networking, communications and mixed reality, the smartphone is
the 'swiss army knife' of it all. However, there are still many untapped
elements and unlimited possibilities that smartphones can provide
next-generation interactive systems with more intuitive and intelligent
functions and applications that have not been explored much in detail,
especially through the use of computing, sensing and mobile capabilities
of the smartphones.
Making uses of cyber and physical data accessible by smartphones, new
cyber-physical interactive technologies and systems can be designed and
integrated to create novel functionalities, methods and intelligences to
interact with humans for better social experiences, and more intelligent
services and creative applications, such as recommender systems,
advertising platforms, gaming applications that are interactive to the
user smartphones on the spot in a physical environment and situation.
This special issue of ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing,
Communications and Applications provides an opportunity to attract and
bring together mobile computing, cyber-physical systems, ubiquitous
computing, social computing, wireless networking and multimedia
communications researchers along with user interface designers and
practitioners with diverse backgrounds to contribute papers on
theoretical, practical, and methodological issues on next-generation
interactive technologies, systems and applications using smartphones.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
