Also, water systems in general are of vital importance to life on Earth and commerce. For these reasons, there is significant interest in monitoring aquatic environments for scientific, environmental, commercial, safety, and military purposes. WUWNet is the premier venue for research and development bringing real-time, in-situ sensing and actuation to this aquatic world. The goal of this conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners in areas relevant to underwater networks and systems. Thus, many aspects of the networking protocol stack - from the physical layer to the application layer and the various system issues - will be represented at this conference. The objective is to serve as a forum for presenting state-of-the-art research and development, for exchanging ideas and experiences, and for facilitating interactions and collaborations. The conference will span three days, including presentations of keynote speeches, plenary talks, technical papers, and posters/demos. The scope of the WUWNet conference covers a broad range of research directions relevant to underwater networks and network-related signal processing, communications, systems and robotics, and their applications. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Underwater network and system architectures * Efficient underwater communications (including acoustic, optical, RF, and wired, etc.), with techniques from the physical layer to the application layer * Underwater acoustic modeling and signal processing * Cooperative underwater communications, including, PHY, MAC, routing, and data transfer, etc. * Networked underwater robotics and systems, such as localization, navigation, security, communication & coordination, or human operator interaction. * Coordinated energy harvesting systems and power systems for underwater networks and systems * Energy-efficient algorithms, and protocol design for underwater networks, as well as signal/image processing and communication systems * Operating system and middleware support for underwater networks and systems * Applications that broadly address underwater networks and systems, including coordinated underwater vehicles * Modeling, simulation, and testbeds for underwater systems and platforms * Experimental results from underwater networking, signal/image processing and communications field trials * Application requirements for underwater networks, signal/image processing and communication systems presented by end users SUBMISSION GUIDELINES ---------------------------------------- Submissions for technical papers must describe original research, not published or currently under review for other workshops, conferences, journals, or magazines. All papers will be reviewed by the program committee for novelty and contribution. The workshop accepts full and short papers. Short papers may represent less mature work than full papers, or may contain new ideas for future research. Full papers should be more complete in their treatment of the topic. Paper submission will be handled electronically. Authors should prepare a PDF version of their papers. The page limit for full papers is 8 pages, and that for short papers is 5 pages in standard ACM conference format. In addition, position papers with 2-page extended abstracts (in standard ACM conference format) can be submitted for, e.g., interesting intermediate results of undergoing research, promising progresses, educational overview on the state of the art in this field, and insightful analysis of the historical or futuristic developments on various topics. Full and short paper submissions that are not accepted may be recommended to be accepted as position papers (2-page extended abstracts). It also poses new problems and challenges due to its intrinsic feature of large scale, in terms of spatial and temporal distribution, information amount, energy consumption, interfaces, functionalities, etc. These unprecedented challenging issues are across the disciplines of embedded system, manufacturing, telecommunication, computing, sensing, software engineering, data management and analysis. Emerging and advanced communication technologies (e.g., cloud-based radio access networks) introduce many new opportunities to tackle the challenging issues in large-scale ubiquitous IoT. To address such challenges in large-scale IoT, besides requiring intelligent algorithms for data collection and analysis, efficient network diagnosis and management, we need new analytical tools, fundamental mathematics beyond the confines of traditional communication and information theories, and even methodologies from other networking related fields like economics, biology, and thermodynamics, to shed light on the fundamental performance limit of large scale IoT system and to guide the design, implementation, development, and optimization of emerging IoT technologies. Cyberspace has become a critical infrastructure that is embedded in almost all other critical infrastructures and enables every movement of human society. In the past several years, there has been large number of attacks in cyberspace, such as attacks on the Internet, attacks on embedded/real-time computing and control systems, and attacks on dedicated computing facilities. Many research efforts have been made to achieve cyberspace safety and security, such as blocking and limiting the impact of compromise, enabling accountability, promoting deployment of defense systems, and deterring potential attackers and penalizing attackers. The 7th International Symposium on Cyberspace Safety and Security provides a leading edge forum to foster interaction between researchers and developers with the cyberspace safety and security communities, and to give attendees an opportunity to network with experts in this area.
