Context:
------------------
Emerging network sciences (interdisciplinary science of networks of
networks) aim at discovering/identifying, formalizing/representing and
analyzing common processes and phenomena underlying physical, chemical,
biological, communication, social and cognitive networks. The
fundamental objective of this emerging interdisciplinary field is to
propose predictive models of these processes and phenomena in these
networks that are characterized as adaptive, interdependent,
unpredictable, nonlinear, and dynamic. From this perspective, a
fundamental question arises as how interdependent network systems can be
designed to support unpredictable disturbance and unexpected changes
when vulnerable to natural disasters, (un)voluntary disruptions,
malfunctions, and changes in its usage patterns due to socio-economic or
technological changes.
The latter changes could also impact operations for system maintenance
as operators running an infrastructure might operate differently than
system design assumes. For this purpose, a better understanding of the
aforementioned properties characterizing interdependent networks
requires to first capture the fundamental interplay between
sustainability, resilience and robustness.
Workshop Objective:
------------------
Technical networks exhibit many inter-dependencies which are complex to
measure and model but also lead to multi-objective decision problems
where uncertainty becomes the transversal notion to capture. To this
end, understanding the fundamental interplay between sustainability,
resilience, and robustness becomes essential in order to rejuvenate
and/or improve current design and evaluation methods that are currently
unable to cope with this fundamental dimension.
Topics:
------------------
Authors are invited to submit papers that describe state-of-the-art
research, present work-in-progress, or suggest open problems covering
one or more of the topics of interest to the workshop:
- Case studies including natural disasters, (un)voluntary disruptions,

OVERVIEW
=========
Challenged networks comprise those situations where communication is
desired, but traditional Internet architectures fail to provide it
effectively. Such networks may be characterized by intermittent
connectivity, a heterogeneous mix of nodes, frequent nodal churn,
and widely varying network conditions. Examples of challenged networks
include deployments in rural and remote areas, networks to support
emergency response operations, inter-planetary networks, sensor and
wildlife monitoring networks, underwater networks, road vehicle
networks, and, more recently, networks of micro aerial vehicles.
The applications of challenged networks range from time-critical
communications such as for disaster relief to delay-tolerant
transmission in poorly connected regions or where censorship should be
counteracted. Challenged networking has also found applications in
everyday settings, for which they were not initially conceived, such
as opportunistic networking supporting data-centric communications,
traffic offloading from cellular networks, mobile cloud computing, and
opportunistic and participatory sensing. The increasing availability
of wireless communications in embedded devices as well as integration
of technologies such as Wi-Fi direct on Android platforms and LTE’s D2D
(device-to-device) communication on general purpose mobile devices,
will further push the development of challenged networking solutions.
Challenged networking has also chartered new directions for
inter-disciplinary research, e.g., applying findings from social
networks and network science. This workshop builds on the success of
the nine previous CHANTS workshops, and WDTN 2005, and aims to
stimulate research on the most novel topics of challenged networking
research. This year’s edition encourages submission of theoretical
and experimental work, including studies of real deployment.
The workshop seeks original work presented in the form of research
papers describing new research approaches and results, as well as demo
submissions. All papers shall be forward looking, describe their
relationship to existing work, and shall argue their impact and
implications for ongoing or future research. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
- Delay/disruption-tolerant networks (DTNs)
- Opportunistic communication and computing
- Architecture, design, and implementation of communication systems for
challenged networks
- Modeling, analysis, and characterization of challenged networks and
protocols
- Network coding in challenged networks
- Information centric and content-centric networking in challenged
networks
- Security/trust/privacy concerns and solutions in challenged networks
- Energy-efficient communication in challenged networks
- Real-world mobility trace collection, analysis, and modeling for
challenged environments
- Network science methods for challenged networks
- Mobile data offloading via challenged networks
- Novel challenged networking systems (e.g., networks of micro aerial
vehicles)
- Real deployment and case studies in various stages of use
- Disrupted scenarios for challenged networks (e.g., disaster relief
and emergency management)
- Daily use applications (e.g., mobile social networking,
crowdsourcing, censorship evasion, sensor networks, IoT)
- Test and simulation tools for evaluating challenged network systems
- Configuration, management, and monitoring of challenged networks
- Challenged networking techniques for mobile cloud computing
- Challenged networking techniques for participatory and opportunistic
sensing.

Dear All,
Please find below a call for papers for the Special Issue of the
Elsevier Vehicular Communications Journal on "Vehicular Cloud Networking".
Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this
announcement.
-----------
*/Call for Papers/*
*A Special Issue of **Vehicular Communications **on*
*“**Vehicular Cloud Networking**”***
Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) have gained a significant
attention during the last decades both from industrial and academia
communities to increase road safety and traffic management. However,
vehicles are normally constrained by resources, including
computation, storage, and radio spectrum bandwidth. Many emerging
applications demand complex computation and large storage, including
in-vehicle multimedia entertainment, vehicular social networking,
etc. It becomes increasingly difficult for an individual vehicle to
efficiently support these applications.
A very promising solution is to share the computation and storage
resources among all vehicles or physically nearby vehicles. As such,
a new paradigm has emerged called “Vehicular Clouds” and consist of
a group of vehicles whose corporate computing, sensing,
communication and physical resources can be coordinated and
dynamically allocated to authorized users.
The aim of this Special Issue is to publish papers studying this
emerging paradigm of cloud-based vehicular networks. Contributed
submissions to this Special Issue may present novel ideas, models,
methodologies, system design and architecture, experiments and
benchmarks for performance evaluation pertaining to vehicular cloud
networks. This Special Issue also welcome relevant research surveys.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
· Service architectures in Vehicular Clouds: Network as a
Service (NaaS), Storage as a Service (STaaS), and Cooperation as a
Service (CaaS).
· Vehicular Clouds: System architectures, platforms, and testbeds.
· Cloud-assisted vehicle communications.
· Mobile vehicular social networks.
· Mobility analysis and vehicle traffic analysis in Vehicular
Clouds.
· Networking to reduce energy consumption in Vehicular Clouds.
· V2V or V2I protocols in Cloud-based vehicular networks and
communications.
· Wireless access virtualization and resource management in
cloud-based vehicular networks.
· Security and privacy issues in Vehicular Clouds.
*Submission Format and Guideline*

CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd International Conference on Safety and Security in Internet of Things
(SaSeIoT 2015)
http://securityiot.eu/2015/show/home
26-27 October, 2015 - Rome, Italy
============================================================
SCOPE
The infrastructure of large cities is becoming increasingly vulnerable to
natural and man-made disasters.
Complex Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructures,
critical dependencies and unforeseen
cascading effects can worsen single hazard events to a threatening crisis
of several entire infrastructures.
With the dense population in urban areas along with the critical dependency
on infrastructures, such crises become
a serious threat to the safety and security of citizens and industries.
When the "unforeseen" happens, public
security comes to its limits Whether cyber, natural or industrial disasters
- effective risk management
must be a continuous process that recognizes new threats and opportunities,
in particular in relation to
new technological evolutions.
Internet of Things (IoT) will have an enormous impact on our future
infrastructures. In the context of
safety and security this is at the same time a challenge (How can we design
secure
and resilient IoT infrastructures?) and an opportunity (How can we use IoT
for better safety and security?).
In particular in urban environments, the increasing deployments of IoT
technologies and the rapid proliferation
of sensored and automated cities are opening up new avenues of threats and
opportunities toward
public safety and security. Although we have seen various deployments of
diverse IoT
systems, our understanding of these systems and their implications in the
context of safety
and security has just scratched the surface. The Second International
Conference on Safety and
Security with IoT (SaSeIoT 2015) aims to explore these dynamics within the
scope of IoT
in the context of Safety and Security. The conference solicits original and
inspiring research

Scope of the Special Issue
The Device-to-Device (D2D) communication paradigm was first proposed for cellular relaying, although it has been later proposed for a large variety of applications, such as opportunistic routing, peer-to-peer, content distribution, and cellular offloading. Indeed, the recent emergence of the D2D paradigm paves the way towards improving the performance of cellular networks by means of novel opportunistic architectures, e.g, based on LTE-Direct and WiFi-Direct technologies.
This special issue will focus on theoretical research contributions presenting new techniques, concepts or analyses, and applied contributions reporting on experiences and experiments with D2D-based offloading systems. In particular, within the general framework of D2D communications and cellular offloading, we solicit manuscripts that present original and previously unpublished work on topics including, but not limited to, the following:
PHY/MAC architectures;
Opportunistic offloading;
Opportunistic medium access;
Spectrum management;
Resource optimization;
Energy minimization;
Security and privacy;
Interference management;
Coding and decoding methods;
MAC protocol coexistence;
Scheduling;
HetNets;
M2M communications;
Vehicular communications;
Content distribution architectures.

OVERVIEW
=========
Challenged networks comprise those situations where communication is
desired, but traditional Internet architectures fail to provide it
effectively. Such networks may be characterized by intermittent
connectivity, a heterogeneous mix of nodes, frequent nodal churn,
and widely varying network conditions. Examples of challenged networks
include deployments in rural and remote areas, networks to support
emergency response operations, inter-planetary networks, sensor and
wildlife monitoring networks, underwater networks, road vehicle
networks, and, more recently, networks of micro aerial vehicles.
The applications of challenged networks range from time-critical
communications such as for disaster relief to delay-tolerant
transmission in poorly connected regions or where censorship should be
counteracted. Challenged networking has also found applications in
everyday settings, for which they were not initially conceived, such
as opportunistic networking supporting data-centric communications,
traffic offloading from cellular networks, mobile cloud computing, and
opportunistic and participatory sensing. The increasing availability
of wireless communications in embedded devices as well as integration
of technologies such as Wi-Fi direct on Android platforms and LTE’s D2D
(device-to-device) communication on general purpose mobile devices,
will further push the development of challenged networking solutions.
Challenged networking has also chartered new directions for
inter-disciplinary research, e.g., applying findings from social
networks and network science. This workshop builds on the success of
the nine previous CHANTS workshops, and WDTN 2005, and aims to
stimulate research on the most novel topics of challenged networking
research. This year’s edition encourages submission of theoretical
and experimental work, including studies of real deployment.
The workshop seeks original work presented in the form of research
papers describing new research approaches and results, as well as demo
submissions. All papers shall be forward looking, describe their
relationship to existing work, and shall argue their impact and
implications for ongoing or future research. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
- Delay/disruption-tolerant networks (DTNs)
- Opportunistic communication and computing
- Architecture, design, and implementation of communication systems for
challenged networks
- Modeling, analysis, and characterization of challenged networks and
protocols
- Network coding in challenged networks
- Information centric and content-centric networking in challenged
networks
- Security/trust/privacy concerns and solutions in challenged networks
- Energy-efficient communication in challenged networks
- Real-world mobility trace collection, analysis, and modeling for
challenged environments
- Network science methods for challenged networks
- Mobile data offloading via challenged networks
- Novel challenged networking systems (e.g., networks of micro aerial
vehicles)
- Real deployment and case studies in various stages of use
- Disrupted scenarios for challenged networks (e.g., disaster relief
and emergency management)
- Daily use applications (e.g., mobile social networking,
crowdsourcing, censorship evasion, sensor networks, IoT)
- Test and simulation tools for evaluating challenged network systems
- Configuration, management, and monitoring of challenged networks
- Challenged networking techniques for mobile cloud computing
- Challenged networking techniques for participatory and opportunistic
sensing.
