Advances in wireless technologies have transformed our societies and have
become an integral part of how people live and conduct business. Moreover,
many of the portable computation and communication devices and personal
electronic gadgets have become loaded with a variety of sensing circuitry
to improve user interaction and enable context aware operation. These
wireless and mobile sensing devices integrate human with their environment
more than we ever thought possible. Internetworking of wireless and mobile
sensing devices constitutes the concept of the future internet or
the internet of things, where a large heterogeneous set of these devices
are closely coupled to enable an intelligent management of many aspects of
our daily activities. Example applications include environmental
monitoring, health-care, smart-home, smart-grids, and smart-cities The
networking of these devices not only provides a flexible and robust
information gathering platform, but also greatly improves the
reliability and efficiency of contemporary manufacturing,
scientific and military systems. The objective of this special issue is to
report on the latest research results and exciting developments on
Wireless and Mobile Sensing Technology in the Future Internet (WMSTFI).
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
· WMSTFI architectures, protocols, and algorithms.
· Integration and coexistence strategies of heterogeneous wireless
networks.
· Data management in WMSTFI.
· WMSTFI performance, simulation, modeling and case studies.
· Security and safety issues.
· New applications for WMSTFI.
· WMSTFI prototypes and test-beds.
· Mobility Management in WMSTFI.
· Power-Aware, Low-Power and Energy-Efficient Designs.
· QoS Management and Quality-of-Service Issues.
· MAC layer design for wireless sensor networks and WMSTFI.
· Developments platforms and tool support for WMSTFI.
· Integration of RFID and wireless sensor networks.

IEEE Wireless Communications - ARCHITECTURE FOR NEXT GENERATION WIRELESS

http://www.comsoc.org/wirelessmag/cfp/architecture-next-generation-wireless…
CALL FOR PAPERS
Over the past decade, we have witnessed the tremendous growth in the
number of networked wireless devices, in the types of wireless and
mobile applications, and in the total amount of traffic from and towards
these devices. In the foreseeable future, it is expected that such a
trend will continue with an unprecedented increasing rate. For instance,
with the recent deployment of the fourth-generation (4G) cellular
network, mobile data traffic rate over cellular networks had exceeded 2
Exabytes per month world-wide by the end of 2014. Recent studies also
suggest that the mobile traffic rate could be increased 10-fold by 2019.
Besides the ever-increasing mobile applications over cellular networks,
many other wireless applications are emerging, including smart grid,
vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), cyber-physical system (CPS), and more
generally, Internet of Things (IoT). Clearly, to accommodate the fast
growing demands, future wireless networks must be scalable.
For the aforementioned existing and emerging wireless applications, it
has been well-known that they have diverse quality-of-service (QoS)
requirements: from low data rate IoT monitoring applications to high
data rate content streaming applications, from delay sensitive real-time
monitoring in smart grid and safety control in vehicular CPS to
delay-tolerant IoT applications. Therefore, it has been very challenging
to design and develop practical wireless networks and systems to
facilitate different application demands efficiently. To address these
challenges, researchers and developers in both academia and industry
have put significant efforts to design various wireless networks. For
example, in the past few years, the architecture of the fifth-generation
(5G) cellular network has attracted significant attention, several
future Internet architectures (FIAs) have also been proposed and
investigated, and various architectures have been developed for smart
grid, VANET, IoT, etc. Naturally, it becomes very important to
investigate two issues: first, how we can flexibly deploy or configure a
specific type of wireless network, and secondly, if we have multiple
co-existing wireless networks, how we can enable the interoperation
among them.
In the literature, the importance of scalability, flexibility, and
interoperability has been recognized and there are some existing studies
already. However, despite the importance of these efforts, there are
still many challenging issues to be addressed. For example, how to
effectively accommodate more than 1 trillion networked devices
world-wide in the next 10 years? How to efficiently provision services
in future wireless networks such that a given system can be flexibly
programmed to optimize the performance of certain applications? How to
facilitate the interoperation of heterogeneous wireless networks and
systems? To understand and solve these key issues, we organize this
special issue in IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine focusing on the
scalability, flexibility, and interoperability in the design of
architecture for future wireless networks. The special issue covers
topics that include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Architecture for large-scale Internet of Things (IoT)
* Flexible architecture for applications with diverse data rates
* Flexible architecture for systems and applications with diverse
mobility requirements
* Flexible cognitive radio and spectrum access
* Interoperability between future Internet and wireless networks
* Interoperability among diverse wireless networks
* Namespace management in heterogeneous wireless networks
* Routing in large-scale multihop wireless network
* Security design on wireless scalability, flexibility, and
interoperability
* Scalable cooperative communications and network coding
* Scalable data-centric wireless network architecture
* Scalable energy efficiency wireless network
* Scalable social-aware wireless network architecture
* Standards for scalable, flexible, and interoperable wireless
networks
* Wireless network for large-scale cyber-physical-system

----------------------Call for Papers----------------------------
The 4th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud
(FiCloud 2016)
22-24 August 2016, Vienna, Austria
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Internet of Things (IoT) vision is to provide a dynamic and global
network infrastructure which is characterized by intelligent and self
configuring capabilities. IoT is considered as an integral part of the
future Internet. It is based on interoperable communication protocols in
order to enable the interaction and integration of virtual as well as
physical Things such as computers, smart devices, sensors, cars,
refrigerators, food packages, medicines, etc. Things can be seamlessly
integrated into the information network and interaction can be made
through the provision of intelligent interfaces. In not so distant
future, IoT will be forcing its way into every aspect of our lives and
technologies including smart homes, smart cities, environment and
nature, green energy, food, medicine, automotive, aerospace and
aviation, telecommunication, transportation and so on.
IoT is generally characterized by real world and small Things, limited
capacity, constrained devices and the consequential issues such as less
reliability, security and privacy. Cloud computing on the other hand
deals mainly with virtual world and has unlimited capabilities in terms
of storage and processing power. Thus cloud and IoT are the main
complementary aspects of the future Internet. IoT can benefit from the
unlimited capabilities and resources of cloud computing. Similarly,
cloud can benefit from IoT by extending its scope to deal with real
world things in a more distributed and dynamic manner.
The theme of this conference is to promote the state of the art in
scientific and practical research of the IoT and cloud computing. It
provides a forum for bringing together researchers and practitioners

The Ph.D. Forum at the 15th ACM/IEEE Int. Conference on Information
Processing in Sensor Network (IPSN, co-located with CPSWEEK) provides
an opportunity for Ph.D. students to present their work in progress to
the scientific community and obtain individual feedback from leading
researchers in the field.
The Forum will be structured as a series of short presentations by the
students, followed by collective discussions. The student
presentations will be interleaved with speeches by leading
researchers, who will provide their own perspectives on current and
future research in the field, as well as on how to best purse a
Ph.D. in this context. A "speed mentoring" session will conclude the
Forum to let the students obtain individual feedback and advise.
Participating students will also have the opportunity to present a
poster during the main conference to leverage further interaction with
CPSWEEK attendees.
Current Ph.D. students in the early stages of their career are
encouraged to submit a 2-page abstract about their on-going research
to be considered for the Ph.D. Forum. The abstract shall also include
a one-paragraph bio, along with brief information on how long the
student has been in Ph.D. school and the expected time until
graduation. The student should be the *sole* author, although
contributions of the advisor and others should be acknowledged. The
presentation at the Forum and the poster at the conference will be
considered for a "Best Research Proposal" award. The Ph.D. forum
abstracts will also be part of the official IPSN proceedings.
Submissions will be reviewed by the Ph.D. Forum committee to ensure
quality, relevance, and potential benefit from attendance to the
Forum. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to participate in
person to the Forum - to be held on April 11th, 2016 - and to present
a poster both at the Forum and at the main conference. There will be
no separate registration fee for the Forum. Participating students
will only need to register to the main IPSN conference.
Submissions must be in PDF format, be written in English, of no more
than two pages in length (all inclusive), and adhere to the IPSN
formatting guidelines (ipsn.acm.org/2016/submission.html?v=1
<http://ipsn.acm.org/2016/submission.html?v=1>). The
abstract should include the author's name, affiliation, and email
address. Submissions are to be uploaded through HotCRP at

The 15th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Information Processing in
Sensor Networks (IPSN 2016) draws upon many disciplines including
networking, signal and image processing, information and coding theory,
databases, information management, distributed algorithms, embedded
systems, wireless communications, and machine learning. In addition to
full-length technical papers, IPSN welcomes exciting demonstrations of
novel sensor network technology, applications, and hardware as well as
posters showing promising early work. IPSN seeks participation from both
industry and academia for demonstrations and posters.
Selection of demonstration and posters will be based on a short
abstract, evaluated based on technical merit and innovation as well as
the potential to stimulate interesting discussions and exchange of ideas
at the conference. Accepted abstracts will appear in the regular
conference proceedings. At least one author of every accepted
demonstration or poster abstract is required to register and attend the
conference.
________________________________
Posters
Poster abstracts should report on research work where at least some
preliminary results are available, but they need not necessarily
describe completed work. An easel will be provided for all posters. If
you have any questions, please contact the poster co-chairs: Lu Su (SUNY
Buffalo) and Tian He (University of Minnesota)
________________________________
Demos
Demo abstracts should describe both the technology being showcased as
well as the user experience of the demo. Tables, power, and wireless
connectivity will be provided. If a demo requires additional special
arrangements, please describe them clearly in your submission using a
separate third page (not part of the technical content of the abstract).
The authors of the accepted demos will be invited to submit an optional
short video together with the camera-ready version of the abstract. The
videos will be linked from the conference program on the IPSN 2015 home
page. If you have any questions, please contact the demo co-chairs:
Xiaofan (Fred) Jiang (Columbia University) and Thiemo Voigt (Uppsala
University and SICS, Sweden)
________________________________
Formatting Guideline
Poster and demonstration abstracts should be submitted as PDF files and
be formatted using ACM SIG Proceedings Tighter Alternate Style.
Poster and demonstration abstracts are at most 2 pages, including
figures, tables, and references. Poster abstracts should follow the same
format but should include a thumbnail of the planned poster as a third
page. If a demonstration requires special arrangements, please describe
them clearly in your submission using a separate third page.
(This third page is not part of the technical content of the abstract
and can be formatted at discretion of the authors).
Abstracts need not be anonymous. Please make sure you use the latest
version of the templates to prepare your submissions. Due to the short
interval between the notification of acceptance and the camera-ready
deadline, we strongly encourage authors to follow the camera-ready
formatting guidelines as close as possible even for the initial abstract
submission.

Call For Contesters
=======================================================================
2016 Microsoft Indoor Localization Competition
*Registration Deadline: January 20th, 2016*
April 10-11, 2016
Vienna, Austria
Co-located with IPSN 2016
http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/events/msindoorloccompetition2016/defaul
t.aspx
=======================================================================
ELIGIBILITY
Both academia and industry submissions are encouraged. All location
techniques, such as ranging, fingerprinting, infrastructure, or device free,
are welcome, except those that require end users' manual measurements.
Contesters can deploy their own infrastructure of *up to 5 devices*. Normal
RF interference is expected, but no jammers from other deployments are
allowed. The results must be shown on a portable device, such as a phone or
a tablet/laptop that a person can easily carry around.
Demo submissions that do not meet one or more of the guidelines above will
be included in the poster session and will be evaluated as a regular
submission, but they will not be considered for prizes.
The competition will take place if *at least 5 teams* respond to this
preliminary call for competition.
CATEGORIES
Depending on the nature and number of submissions multiple categories might
be defined based on the accuracy (i.e., point-based vs. area based), the
size, the cost, or the type (i.e., software vs. hardware) of the proposed
solution.
Given our past experience, this year we expect to have the following
categories (note that these categories have not been finalized. The final
categories will be announced shortly after the registration deadline and
they will depend on the number and type of submissions received):
1. Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Technologies: Submissions in this
category should be able to work with unmodified commercial off-the-shelf
devices such as laptops, phones, and tablets. In this category, the
unmodified COTS device is localized. Teams in this category will not be
allowed to interface any custom hardware to the COTS devices (i.e., UWB or
ultrasound hardware). Only changes to the software of the devices will be
allowed. Submissions in this category could be further classified to
infrastructure-based and infrastructure-free depending on their requirement
to deploy custom hardware (i.e., BLE beacons) in the evaluation area.
2. Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Technologies with Initialization:
Submissions in this category should meet all the criteria of the COTS
Technologies category, with the additional requirement to initialize the
location of the COTS device being localized to a ground truth location
before the evaluation.
3. Modified Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Technologies: Submissions
in this category could interface custom hardware to the COTS devices to be
localized (i.e., UWB or ultrasound hardware). Submissions in this category
could be further classified to infrastructure-based and infrastructure-free
depending on their requirement to deploy custom hardware (i.e., BLE beacons)
in the evaluation area. Most, if not all, submissions in this category are
expected to be infrastructure-based.
For instance:
* WiFi fingerprinting approaches that also leverage inertial sensors
will be classified as infrastructure-free COTS Technologies as they do not
require to interface any custom hardware to the COTS device being localized.
* WiFi fingerprinting approaches that also deploy custom BLE beacons
in the evaluation area will be classified as infrastructure-based COTS
Technologies as they don't modify the COTS device being localized, but they
require the deployment of custom hardware.
* Approaches based on inertial sensing that require to be initialized
to a ground truth location before being evaluated will be classified as COTS
Technologies with Initialization.
* UWB approaches will be classified as infrastructure-based modified
COTS Technologies as they require modifications to the COTS device being
localized, and they need to deploy custom hardware in the evaluation area.
In the past, teams were asked to report 2D locations (X,Y). In this year's
competition, teams will be required to report 3D locations (X,Y,Z). The
evaluation area we have reserved, even though it does not contain multiple
floors, it includes locations with different elevation characteristics. On
top of that, we plan to place the devices to be localized at different
heights during the competition to evaluate the 3D localization accuracy of
each team.
*Not all teams will have to report 3D locations*. We understand that some
technologies are not suited for 3D localization (i.e., WiFi/geo-magnetic
fingerprinting, dead reckoning, BLE-based etc.), but they are still
excellent candidates for commercial indoor location systems. With this in
mind, the organizers will determine shortly after the registration deadline
which teams will be classified as 3D localization teams. It is not up to the
individual teams to decide if they will report 2D or 3D locations. The
organizers will ensure that all the teams in a given category will either
report 2D or 3D locations. There will be no categories containing both 2D
and 3D localization teams.
EVALUATION AND PRIZE
Results are judged based on accuracy, and an award will be given to the top
3 teams in each category. When accuracy ties, infrastructure requirements
will be used for tie breaking. The winning teams in each category will be
invited to present their approach at the conference, and receive a cash
award. The exact accuracy metrics that will be used during evaluation will
be announced shortly before the competition takes place.
POSTER SESSION
A poster session dedicated to all competition participants will be organized
during the conference. Participants will have the opportunity to explain
their system to conference attendees.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Contesters must submit an abstract describing their approach and deployment
requirements by the contest registration deadline. Submissions are treated
as confidential until the competition. Submissions must be at most two (2)
single-spaced 8.5" x 11" pages, including figures, tables, and references.
Submission should follow the exact same format as regular, full IPSN 2016
papers. *Abstracts should include the names and affiliations of all
authors*. Templates can be found here:
