CALL FOR PAPERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Sensor Technologies for Connected Cars: Devices, Systems and Modelling*
IEEE Sensors Journal
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Scope:**
Vehicular accidents are a major global problem, leading to human injury or
death, damages to property, with financial and other impact on the general
public. In most cases, vehicular accidents are caused by avoidable human
error and improper driving practices. With recent advances in sensing
technologies, self-driving, connected cars and autonomous vehicles are
becoming more and more practicable. The sensor data contribution to the
peer to peer (P2P) vehicle sharing system reduces occurrences of road
accidents by the use of vehicle to vehicle (V2V) interaction, along with
use of sensors for maintaining safe driving distances and pre-empting
accidents. Sensor technology in connected cars also improves the overall
driving experience by using vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) interaction.
This enables warnings and precautions from a network of roadside units,
functioning as stationary waypoints and relay warnings, precautions and
information regarding availability of crucial services. Such information is
particularly beneficial to users in remote areas where it cannot be
obtained reliably through conventional communication channels.
This Special Issue is focused on sensors and sensor systems for connected
vehicles with emphasis on the whole range between modelling and
applications. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Sensors for connected cars and autonomous vehicles
• Emerging sensor technology for driverless cars
• Sensors for Wireless On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) fleet management
• Accurate Vehicle Location System Using Wireless Sensor Networks
• Intra-Car Wireless Sensor Networks
• Sensor interfaces for Peer to Peer (P2P) vehicle sensor data sharing
• Sensor Interfaces for Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to
Infrastructure (V2I) information exchange
• Sensor interface compliance to communications protocols and standards,
authentication and security requirements
• Testing, evaluation and verification of sensor systems for connected cars
• Safe, Secure and Infotainment Connected Cars
• Anti-collision and alarming sensors,
• Traffic regulation and transaction sensors
• Sensor Data Processing
• On-road video contents streaming delivery and traffic sensor management
**Schedule**
• Submission deadline: July 15, 2017
• Author notifications: October 20, 2017
• Final manuscripts due: December 15, 2017
• Publication: February, 2018

CALL FOR PAPER:
Special Section in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics "From
Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks to Industrial IoT"
Deadline for manuscript submissions July 1, 2017 This CFP can be seen at
the website of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics at
http://tii.ieee-ies.org/.
The THEME
--------------
Ever-growing volume of data and information is being captured from
systems, machines and devices and made available to IT systems. The
information is processed on-the-fly enabling IT-based management systems
to make decisions for real-time control of the manufacturing process.
This data capturing and collection for IT systems is often referred to
as the Internet of Things (IoT). When adopted to the industrial
automation systems where robustness, reliability, security and latency
and jitters are highly desired performance requirements, it is often
called Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
Industrial communication systems today primarily consist of legacy
systems such as HART, Foundation FIELDBUS, CAN and Profibus -
well-working and established industry-specific networks installed in
millions of systems. In the last decades, there has been a push for
IP-based technology which has made Ethernet become a popular
communication infrastructure. But to meet the stringent timing
requirements of industrial applications, it has been necessary to
implement real-time functionality. The communication plays a central
role for the availability of all relevant information in real-time.
Furthermore, it is indisputable that the mobility of objects involved in
the production as well as the necessary flexibility of the production
require wireless communication systems. The need for wireless
communication is steadily increasing in many automation applications. In
order to fully exploit the potentials offered by wireless communication
for monitoring, control and automation applications, there is a further
need for time-constrained communication protocols that provide bounded
latency together with high reliability or energy efficiency. In
addition, wireless automation applications need to interact with legacy
wired communications systems and provide equivalent levels of security
and dependability. Furthermore, industrial settings are highly dynamic
environments which call for the ability to adapt to changes in the
operating conditions while still not violating the time-constraints of
the applications. Given the above scenarios, there is a need to
disseminate, streamline and investigate research findings coming from
several different application domains, namely from factory automation to
industrial process monitoring and control, from traffic, environmental,
building and structural monitoring to mobile robotics, from vehicular
communication to energy management and healthcare applications. This
need is especially driven by the industry interest in enabling
large-scale wireless deployments for the sake of flexible, competitive
and cost-efficient production.
The goal of this special section is to attract papers addressing the
main research issues in design, development, adoption and applications
of Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks and Industrial
Internet-of-Things. IIoT provides a great opportunity to new gains in
flexibility and productivity but also challenges as to how to merge
existing installations to these new technologies.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
* Architecture and protocol design for industrial IoT systems
* 5G for future industrial automation
* Security, safety and privacy issues in industrial wireless
networks and applications
* Deployment, integration and case studies of IWSN and IIoT
* Performance evaluation, simulation, RF measurements, and
modeling of industrial IoT systems
* Embedded industrial IoT applications
* Intelligent M2M Communications in industrial IoT
* Cognitive IIoT
* Cloud-based IIoT solutions
The use of information technology also opens up new application areas
for automation systems. Examples include but are not limited to:
* Smart Manufacturing and Web-of-Things in the factory line
* Process, Factory, Home and Building Automation
* Smart grids / Smart metering
* Industrial Robotics and Automation
* Smart and Connected Health

Wireless communication is very appealing for a broad range of automation
applications, including industrial process monitoring and control, home
and factory automation, environmental, building and structural
monitoring and energy management. Wireless communications in the
automation domain impose a number of research challenges, such as
communication reliability, bandwidth management, latency issues and
energy efficiency. In dynamic environments, very challenging research
issues arrive when non-functional properties, such as real-time behavior
and adaptability, must be enforced. We solicit technical papers
describing original ideas, theory, methodology and experiences from the
design, implementation and deployment of wireless systems for industrial
automation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Advanced network architectures and standards for industrial
sensor and actuator networks
- Protocols for reliable and real-time wireless communication
- Integration and coexistence of heterogeneous wireless networks
- Wireless sensor and actuator networks performance,
simulation, RF measurements, modeling and case studies

Betreff: The 1st ACM workshop FAILSAFE 2017 Call for Papers
Datum: Fri, 09 Jun 2017 13:38:18 +0100
Von: michael.breza04(a)imperial.ac.uk
An: wolf(a)ibr.cs.tu-bs.de
-- Our sincere apologies if you receive duplicates of the call --
==============================================
Dear Colleagues,
Please see below the Call for Papers for ACM FAILSAFE 2017.
http://wp.doc.ic.ac.uk/failsafe/
We look forward to your submissions describing the challenges and struggles
that you have faced and during real WSN deployments.
Unique to this workshop, we will ask for submissions reporting the
*failure* of
actual embedded sensing system deployments complete with data where
possible that can shed
insight as to how the problems affected such sensor based systems and their
goals. We want the failures, problems and glitches that wasted hours of
researcher time; head scratching whilst trying to diagnose and fix subtle
or unexpected bugs etc. This workshop focuses on the point at which the
simulations and tests done in the lab are taken out into the field, and the
previous assumptions fail. The overarching aim is to establish a process
that
encourages the refinement and development of a new science of sensor
systems to
enable reliable, maintainable deployments that last the life-times
expected of
them.
The topic is important as the scientific problems that we face with IoT
systems
strike hard against the limits of our knowledge about how to organise,
analyse,
and adapt large, loosely-coupled, intercommunicating, and increasingly
autonomous, distributed systems. This topic is timely because there is
mounting
pressure from various industries and government bodies to be able to place
their trust in sensing based infrastructures for decision-making. This
contention is supported by industry research showing the potential growth of
the IoT sector.
In this workshop we wish to:
Share experiences of real IoT developments “in the wild”.
Understand the differences between the theoretical performance of
results and real
+experiences.
Map failure to causes and to explore the more and less obvious causalities.
Produce a list of research findings and areas to prioritise for further
investigation.
The workshop scope includes:
Real WSN/IOT etc. deployments that either experienced some, or ended in,
failure,
complete with data to show what failed and a detailed analysis of the
causes of
the failure and the lessons learned.
Examples of a WSN or other sensor deployments that where either hacked or
attacked in a nefarious way, with as much data and details as can be
provided.
Any practices or tools, along with methodology and description, that have
evolved out of sensor system deployment failures that are used to prevent
further problems and that can be shown to improve the success rate of Sensor
System deployments.
Privacy Issues:
The organisers of FAILSAFE recognise that some information from
deployments may
have a sensitive nature or be under a non-disclosure agreement. In these
cases,
it is acceptable to anonymise any information as long as it does not inhibit
the point or issues being presented in the work. If you have any queries
about
this at all, please contact the program chair Michael Breza
(mjb04(a)doc.ic.ac.uk) for further advise and clarification.
Important Dates:
Submission Deadline, 15th August, 2017
Notification, 5th September, 2017

Dear Colleagues,
We are organizing the 1st ACM Workshop on Mobile Crowdsensing Systems
and Applications (CrowdSense’17), colocated with ACM SenSys’17 in
Netherlands. We enthusiastically look forward to your submissions on
mobile crowd sensing systems. Our sincere apologies if you receive
multiple copies of this email.
The workshop homepage can be found at
http://webhome.cs.uvic.ca/~wkui/crowdsense/index.html
Please see below the Call for Papers for CrowdSense’17:
Recently, with the proliferation of mobile devices with rich sensor
peripherals and computation capability, mobile crowdsensing, a special
form of crowdsourcing where communities contribute sensing information
and human intelligence using mobile devices to form a body of knowledge,
has gained much interest in a variety of environmental, commercial, and
social applications. Mobile crowdsensing spans a wide spectrum of user
involvement, from collecting sensor measurements with no user
intervention to requiring active participation of mobile users. Despite
some commercial success, wider adoption of mobile crowdsensing face the
challenges of low data quality, incomplete data, few contributing
participants, lack of killer applications, etc.
This workshop aims to bring together researchers in the field of mobile
crowdsensing to exchange ideas and advance the research frontier. We
invite submissions in the following non-exclusive list of topics:
• Mobile crowdsensing applications and case study
• Mobile crowdsensing platforms and systems
• Incentive mechanisms and the economics of mobile crowdsensing
• Data quality in mobile crowdsensing
• Privacy and security of mobile crowdsensed data
• Location and mobility prediction and inference

Seoul, Korea
http://conferences2.sigcomm.org/co-next/2017/
+ Abstract Registration: Monday June 12, 2017
+ Paper Submission: Monday June 19, 2017 (hard deadline, no extensions
will be given)
+ Notification of Acceptance: September 10, 2017
***Call for Papers***
The CoNEXT 2017 conference seeks papers presenting significant and novel
research results on emerging computer networks and its applications. We
especially encourage submissions that present novel experimentation,
creative use of networking technologies, and new insights made possible
using analysis. We invite submissions on a wide range of topics. The
list of topics includes (in alphabetical order):
+ Big Data platforms with applications to network management, security,
measurements
+ Content distribution and caching, e.g., CDN, peer-to-peer, overlays
+ Design, analysis, and evaluation of network architectures
+ Internet measurement and modeling
+ Innovative uses of network data beyond communication
+ Networking aspects of datacenters and cloud computing
+ Networking aspects of operating systems and virtualization architectures
+ Network control and management, including SDN, NFV and network
programmability
+ Network, transport, and application-layer protocols
+ Networking aspects of ubiquitous computing, including
Internet-of-Things and Smart Cities
+ Networking aspects of online social networks
+ Reliability and availability of networks, protocols, and applications
+ Routing and traffic engineering
+ Security and privacy aspects of networks, protocols, and applications
+ Topics at the intersection of energy-efficient computing and networking
+ Wireless and cellular networks
We are open to other contributions that stretch networking research
outside of these topics, present new emerging computing trends, or
potentially involve unfamiliar techniques. We ask authors to bear in
mind that the main factor of interest for their work will be the
implications of their results in networking. Potential authors who are
unsure of the scope are encouraged to contact the PC chairs before
submission.
***Submission Instructions***
CoNEXT welcomes submission of both long and short papers (2-column, 10pt
ACM format). Long papers are the more traditional and complete form to
present technical work, and should be no more than 12 pages (and up to 2
additional pages for references). Short papers are the preferred vehicle
for contributions whose novelty and impact show the same technical
excellence, and whose description fits within 6 pages (with 1 additional
page for references). Short papers will be reviewed with a more open
mind towards the scope of evaluation or breadth of topics compared to
long papers. Note that position papers, critiques of networking
research, and ideas that are not yet fully complete or evaluated are a
better fit for the HotNets workshop. We recommend that authors check
both CFPs before submitting.
***Organization Committee***
+ General chairs: Taekyoung "Ted" Kwon (Seoul National University) and
Sue Moon (KAIST)
+ TPC chairs: Phillipa Gill (University of Massachusetts) and Marco
Mellia (Politecnico di Torino)
***Important Note***
AUTHORS TAKE NOTE: The official publication date is the date the
proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may
be up to two weeks prior to the first day of the conference. The
official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings
related to published work.
+ Official publication date: Friday, December 1st, 2017

CALL FOR PAPERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Sensor Technologies for Connected Cars: Devices, Systems and Modelling*
IEEE Sensors Journal
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Scope:**
Vehicular accidents are a major global problem, leading to human injury or
death, damages to property, with financial and other impact on the general
public. In most cases, vehicular accidents are caused by avoidable human
error and improper driving practices. With recent advances in sensing
technologies, self-driving, connected cars and autonomous vehicles are
becoming more and more practicable. The sensor data contribution to the
peer to peer (P2P) vehicle sharing system reduces occurrences of road
accidents by the use of vehicle to vehicle (V2V) interaction, along with
use of sensors for maintaining safe driving distances and pre-empting
accidents. Sensor technology in connected cars also improves the overall
driving experience by using vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) interaction.
This enables warnings and precautions from a network of roadside units,
functioning as stationary waypoints and relay warnings, precautions and
information regarding availability of crucial services. Such information is
particularly beneficial to users in remote areas where it cannot be
obtained reliably through conventional communication channels.
This Special Issue is focused on sensors and sensor systems for connected
vehicles with emphasis on the whole range between modelling and
applications. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Sensors for connected cars and autonomous vehicles
• Emerging sensor technology for driverless cars
• Sensors for Wireless On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) fleet management
• Accurate Vehicle Location System Using Wireless Sensor Networks
• Intra-Car Wireless Sensor Networks
• Sensor interfaces for Peer to Peer (P2P) vehicle sensor data sharing
• Sensor Interfaces for Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to
Infrastructure (V2I) information exchange
• Sensor interface compliance to communications protocols and standards,
authentication and security requirements
• Testing, evaluation and verification of sensor systems for connected cars
• Safe, Secure and Infotainment Connected Cars
• Anti-collision and alarming sensors,
• Traffic regulation and transaction sensors
• Sensor Data Processing
• On-road video contents streaming delivery and traffic sensor management
**Schedule**
• Submission deadline: July 15, 2017
• Author notifications: October 20, 2017
• Final manuscripts due: December 15, 2017
• Publication: February, 2018
