CALL FOR PAPERS
The 12th ACM International Workshop on Wireless Network Testbeds,
Experimental evaluation & CHaracterization
(ACM WiNTECH 2018)
https://sigmobile.org/mobicom/2018/workshops/wintech/index.html
October 29, 2018 / New Delhi, India
===========================================================================
SCOPE
ACM WiNTECH workshop is purposely tailored to disseminate research
activities related to novel methods and techniques to manage experimental
testbeds, innovative wireless communication applications and plat-forms.
WiNTECH, which will celebrate its 12th edition this year, stands out as one
of the most long-lasting workshops co-located with ACM MobiCom. WiNTECH
offers a consolidated experience to academics and industrial practitioners
that seek to bridge the gap between fundamental models/algorithms and
practical communication systems and experimental platforms. The workshop
will serve as a forum for sharing experiences and results with real
testbeds, experimental evaluation, prototyping and empirical
characterization of wireless technologies.
We are seeking original, previously unpublished papers empirically
addressing key issues and challenges in wireless networking. All
submissions will be judged by their technical merit and relevance to the
workshop, based on a thorough review process by the Technical Program
Committee.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Designing and evaluation of wireless testbeds and prototyping platforms
for:
** mmWave and Terahertz communications and networking
** Long-Range/Low-Power Wide-Area Wireless Networking
** Mobile/Wireless Research & Edge / Cloud Computing
** Mobile Data Science & Analysis
** Mobile Web
** Communications for Embedded and Energy-Harvesting Systems
** Sensing with Radio, Light, Sound, and Vibration
** Emerging PHY implemented on Software defined radio (SDR)
** IoT and wearable computing
** Visible Light Communications (VLC)
** UAV, multi-robot and vehicular networks
** Underwater/underground networks

In Sensornetzen, Internet-of-Things,
Cyber-Physical-Networks, ... kommunizieren nun Geräte verschiedenster
Art und für verschiedenste Zweckr miteinander. In manchen Szenarien
Zudem bestehen sehr breite
und unterschiedliche Anwendungsbereiche, die oftmals spezielle

Call for Papers:
The demands for high data rates and ultra-reliable coverage become
demanding issues due to increase number of population in the world by 2020.
The huge demand for high quality life makes the administrator and the
governments to put carefully planning in cities in a smarter way. As a
premier agent for stimulating a quality of life compatible with a resource
efficient economy, the smart city phenomenon has recently seized the
imagination of the academia and the industry significantly. As the Internet
of things (IoT) and Tactile Internet are predictable to be a primary
driving force for future cities, advanced communication methods will play a
crucial role in assisting real-time data acquisition and utilization from
distributed sensors. However, smart cities will also have to function
within the limitations of the national economy and available resources.
Consequently, the challenges in the realization of smart cities are many
and varied. In general, low energy consumption, constrained bandwidth,
latency and budgetary limitations are predominate. In order to overcome
these hurdles, it is essential that new ideas and theories for optimizing
the network in energy, spectral, latency and monetary terms are presented
to achieve a robust environment monitoring and sustainable transportation
network, among other provisions. This led the researchers to pave the way
for future wireless networks under the umbrella of 5G communications as
well. This is an amalgamation of a multitude of technologies ranging from
device-level algorithms such as low power transmissions to system-level
architectures such as software-defined networking (SDN), the challenges
posed by each of these techniques are critical. The smart city idea is also
known to work at the intersection of various techniques such as
device-to-device (D2D) communications, massive multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO), millimeter wave (mmWave) communications,
full-duplex transmissions and Internet of Things (IoT) to name a few.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together a group of experts with
interest in emerging smart cities related areas. The recent advancement in
smart cities has boosted the development of a new generation of
highly-efficient mobile networks. After the successful editions of this
workshop in IEEE ISWCS 2016 and IEEE PIMRC 2017, this workshop will
highlight the recent developments in this evolving area. It will provide a
platform for exchanging new ideas and research collaboration. Topic are not
limited to the following areas:
*5G oriented smart cities
*Big data and cloud computing in smart cities
*Internet of things and automation in smart cities
*Cognitive radio in smart cities, and ultra-dense network
*Energy harvesting technologies and communications *Communication in smart
grid and green communications and computing
*Novel network architecture design
*Resource-efficient cross-layer optimization
*Cooperative communications, mmWave and Massive MIMO design for
transmissions
*Energy-efficiency and spectral-efficiency
*Antennas design and channel modeling
*Machine-to-machine communications and Smart Drones Communications
*Safety, security, and privacy for smart Cities
*Smart transportation systems and infrastructure (V2V, V2I) *Applications,
deployments, test-beds and experimental experience for communications in
smart cities
Accepted and presented papers will be published in the IEEE VTC-Fall 2018
Proceedings and submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore.

SCOPE AND OVERVIEW
__________________
Challenged networks comprise those situations where communication is
desired, but traditional Internet architectures fail to provide it
effectively. Such networks may be characterized by intermittent
connectivity, a heterogeneous mix of nodes, frequent nodal churn, and
widely varying network conditions. The applications of challenged networks
range from time-critical communications such as for disaster relief to
delay-tolerant transmission in poorly connected regions or where censorship
should be counteracted. However, challenged networking has also found many
applications in everyday settings, for which they were not initially
conceived, such as opportunistic networking supporting data-centric
communications, traffic offloading from cellular networks, mobile
cloud/edge computing, opportunistic and participatory sensing as well as
challenged IoT.
This workshop builds on the success of the twelve previous CHANTS
workshops, and WDTN 2005, and aims to stimulate research on the most novel
topics of challenged networking research. This year’s edition encourages
submission of theoretical and experimental work (including studies of real
deployment), with a primary interest in new directions of challenged
networking in concrete application scenarios and demonstrators in areas
such as autonomous driving, underwater robots, emergency response
operations, underground mining, interplanetary missions, polar research and
unmanned aerial vehicles. The workshop seeks original work presented in the
form of research papers describing new research approaches and results, as
well as demo and poster submissions. Highly disruptive work-in-progress and
position papers are also welcome, provided they focus on particularly
innovative solutions or applications for challenged networks. All papers
shall be forward-looking, describe their relationship to existing work, and
shall argue their impact and implications for ongoing or future research.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Delay/disruption-tolerant networks (DTNs), opportunistic communication
and computing
• Architecture, design, and implementation of communication systems for
challenged networks
• Communication systems and networks for underground mining
• Underwater communication systems and networks
• Security/trust/privacy concerns and solutions in challenged networks
• Networking in polar regions
• Millimeter Wave Networking
• Modeling, analysis, and characterization of challenged networks and
protocols
• Challenged networking techniques for mobile cloud computing
• Mobile data offloading via challenged networks
• Challenged networking techniques for participatory and opportunistic
sensing
• Challenged networking in the Internet of Things
• Challenged networking in Cyber-Physical Systems
• Software-defined networking in challenged environments
• Energy-efficient communication in challenged networks
• Space-terrestrial networks, lunar networks as well as interplanetary
networks
• Information centric and content-centric networking in challenged networks
• Real-world mobility trace collection, analysis, and modeling for
challenged environments
• Network coding in challenged networks
• Real deployment and case studies in various stages of use
• Disrupted scenarios for challenged networks (e.g., disaster relief and
emergency management)

Call for Papers: The 5th ACM International Conference on Systems for
Energy-Efficient Built Environments (BuildSys 2018)
**** ACM BuildSys 2018 ****
Shenzhen, China
November 7-8, 2018
http://buildsys.acm.org/2018/
Dear Colleagues,
Built environments and critical urban infrastructures, account for over
half of society’s energy consumption and are the mainstay of our nation’s
economy, security, and health. Advances in the effective integration of
networked sensors, building controls, and physical infrastructure are
transforming our society. In the information age, unprecedented research of
cyber-physical infrastructures includes the acquisition, integration, and
analysis of big and heterogeneous data such as sensors, devices, vehicles,
buildings, and human, to tackle the major issues that cities face, e.g.,
air pollution, increased energy consumption and traffic congestion.
Systems optimization, data analysis and modeling applied to the built
environment
are particularly important in improving our society, e.g., by increasing
its sustainability and enhancing people’s quality-of-life. These systems
represent the foundation for emerging “smart cities”.

### Paper Types
We solicit two types of original submissions:
* Regular papers for oral presentation (10 pages)
* Notes papers for oral presentation (4 pages)
Notes papers are 4-page papers intended to discuss preliminary research
results, advocate new research directions, describe public software or
datasets, or present short projects that do not warrant a 10-page paper.
Notes papers serve, in part, to encourage younger researchers and research
teams entering this field of research to share their work. We also
encourage Notes paper submissions from industry participants that may not
be able to devote resources to a full paper. While Notes papers are not
expected to have extensive evaluations, they will be reviewed based on the
novelty of their ideas, potential for impact, and quality of presentation.
### Submission Guidelines
Submitted papers must be unpublished and must not be currently under review
for any other publication. Submissions must be full papers, at most 10
single-spaced US Letter (8.5” x 11”) pages, including figures, tables,
references, and appendices. Submissions for Note papers must be
at most 4 single-spaced US Letter (8.5"x11") pages, including figures, tables,
references, and appendices. All submissions must use the LaTeX (preferred)
or Word styles found here. Authors must make a good faith effort to
anonymize their submissions by: (1) using the "anonymous" option for the
class and (2) using "anonsuppress" section where appropriate. Papers that
do not meet the size, formatting, and anonymization requirements will not
be reviewed. Please note that ACM uses 9-pt fonts in all conference
proceedings, and the style (both LaTeX and Word) implicitly define the font
size to be 9-pt. Please refer to publication chair's Note as well as the
User Guide of the new
class. Accepted submissions will be available on the ACM digital library on
the first day of the conference.
### Submission Link
All papers must be in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and submitted
through the web submission form: https://buildsys18.hotcrp.com/.
For notes papers, the submission site has a checkbox called "Notes papers."
Those who submit notes papers need to check this box to indicate their
paper types.

Background
------------------
Automakers have been busy with implementing new designs and features for
new vehicles for the last several years. The efforts have been in
variety of areas such as fuel efficiency, smart features on wheels,
performance, batteries, and a cluster of new products made with new
materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber, and titanium. One challenging
area is related to the communication system within new vehicles. The
idea of self-driving vehicles from a decade ago is becoming a reality
today. The development of new cars and self-driving vehicles brings a
set of new challenges for the designers and drivers as well. Ease of
use, accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of the new technologies used
in the new vehicles are the main priority for automakers.
The idea of “Connected Vehicle” has been the focus of automakers,
telecommunication industry, and IT providers for quite a while. The
evolution of technologies that advances vehicle connectivity has brought
new fields of research and development in several industries. Numerous
new terms such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicles-to-everything
(V2X), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and others have been conceived to
describe the passing of information from one vehicle to the surrounding
entities. The aim of this special issue is to create a platform to
foster new ideas and technical insights in the design and analysis of
vehicular communication systems and discuss emerging technologies.
