Global Internet Symposium @WWW 2020
April 21, 2020
Taipei, Taiwan
http://gi2020.ct.univie.ac.at/
***Scope of the workshop***
The Global Internet Symposium aims to provide a top forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss advances in Internet related technologies. The focus of the symposium is on experimental systems and emerging future Internet technologies, and especially on scaling such systems to the global scale of the Internet. The Global Internet Symposium also has a special focus on developing countries, especially measurements-related aspects. In addition to the traditional research papers, we also encourage well-thought-through position papers, papers that compare proposed approaches, papers that clarify and compare inherent differences between competing technologies, and heresy.
This year the IEEE Global Internet Symposium is hosted by The Web Conference 2020 held in Taipei, in April. The Web Conference, formerly known as The WWW Conference is a top conference focused on understanding the current state and the evolution of the Web.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Routing, switching, and addressing
+ Software defined networks and network function virtualization
+ Geo-distributed applications, consistency and latency challenges
+ Content delivery and management
+ Internet eXchanges and remote peering
+ Internet structure and analysis tools
+ Network-aware applications
+ Distributed Systems
+ Next generation network architectures
+ Novel Distributed Internet applications including live video streaming, and real-time large-scale games
+ Online social networking
+ Peer to Peer networks
+ Novel applications and new paradigms
+ Internet measurement, modeling, and visualization
+ Large scale network operation and performance monitoring
+ Privacy, security, and censorship issues on the Internet

----------------------------------- Call for papers -----------------------------------
5th IEEE ICC Workshop on
** Convergent Internet of Things (C-IoT) **
Held in conjunction with
IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC’20)
7-11 June 2020
Dublin, Ireland
http://ciot.weebly.com/
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, most industrial contenders are advocating for their versions of IoT, while mainstream research efforts address singular views of scalable sensing, massive RFID-based identification, and other topological remedies to handle the ensuing Big Data communication and sense-making processes. IoT architectures need to expand on the functional capacity and interaction of “things”; beyond sheer sensors and actuators, as they take center stage in the next generation IoT. This will facilitate the understanding, and subsequent optimization, of interdependencies of complex IoT systems.
The scope of C-IoT 2020 will focus on topological remedies to handle Big Data communication and scalable IoT services. While many hurdles face synergistic IoT development, we will focus on techniques from Machine Learning to aid IoT convergence on data and information planes. As communication between heterogeneous IoT architectures is becoming a reality, it is ever more pressing to address data compatibility and information extraction from heterogeneously sourced data. This includes challenges with data representation, meta-data tagging practices, establishing quality of resource (QoR) and quality of information (QoI) measures in heterogeneously sourced IoT data. More importantly, scaling such IoT systems is inherently tied with trusting such data, and our inference in deriving knowledge from data.
In its 5th iteration, this workshop will focus on machine learning (ML) techniques that will aid interoperability across IoT’s operational spectrum. That is, building on ML to aid in all stages of IoT operation, from heterogeneous resource discovery, calibration, verification, functional augmentation, and sustenance, all the way to communication/interference management and data collection, pruning and homogeneous representation. As IoT is proving to be integral to recent developments in the Tactile Internet (TI), this workshop solicits contributions that address synergy and convergence with Tactile Internet applications, interoperability at the Tactile Edge, and how IoT could leverage TI cognizance.
Specific topics include, but are not limited to:
· Machine Learning techniques for IoT data modeling and analysis
· Enabling Tactile Internet applications over C-IoT
· CloudML engines for integrating IoT devices with cloud analytics
· Data management in Convergent IoT systems
· Data and organization Interoperability challenges for IoT systems
· Resource identification, discovery, and profiling in heterogeneous IoT
· Resource sharing and actuation conflicts resolution
· Quality of Information quantification in heterogeneous IoT
· Agile frameworks for IoT Interoperability
· Crowd-solicited IoT proliferation
· IoT systems collaboration and cooperation mechanisms
· Innovative IoT incentive schemes
· Convergent paradigms in the Internet of Things
· Non-proprietary standardization frameworks for a heterogeneous IoT
· Convergent services on malleable IoT infrastructures
· IoT edge analytics
· IoT service orchestration and scheduling
· Industrial Internet – Value creation and challenges
· Legal and governance frameworks for IoT regulation

[Apologies if you got multiple copies of this invitation]
The Fifth International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC
2020)
http://emergingtechnet.org/FMEC2020/index.php
Paris, France. April 20-23, 2020
(Technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE France Section)
*FMEC 2020 CFP:*
Cloud computing provides large range of services and virtually unlimited
available resources for users. New applications, such as virtual reality
and smart building control, have emerged due to the large number of
resources and services brought by cloud computing. However, the
delay-sensitive applications face the problem of large latency, especially
when several smart devices and objects are getting involved in human’s life
such as the case of smart cities or Internet of Things. Therefore, cloud
computing is unable to meet the requirements of low latency, location
awareness, and mobility support. To solve this problem, researchers have
introduced a trusted and dependable solution through the Fog and the Mobile
Edge Computing (FMEC) to put the services and resources of the cloud closer
to users, which facilitates the leveraging of available services and
resources in the edge networks. By this, we are moving from the core (cloud
data centers) to the edge of the network closer to the users. FMEC
dependability is based on providing user centric service. The purpose of
Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing is to run the heavy real-time
applications at the network edge directly using the billions of connected
mobile devices.
Several features enable the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing to be a
perfect paradigm to the aforementioned purpose, which are the dense
geographical deployment of servers, supporting mobility and the closeness
to users. As in every new technology, some challenges face the vision of
the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing, which are the administrative
policies and security concerns (i.e. secure data storage, secure
computation, network security, data privacy, usage privacy, location
privacy, etc).
FMEC 2020 conference aims to investigate the opportunities and requirements
for Mobile Edge Computing dominance. In addition, it seeks for novel
contributions that help mitigating Mobile Edge Computing challenges. That
is, the objective of FMEC 2020 is to provide a forum for scientists,
engineers, and researchers to discuss and exchange new ideas, novel results
and experience on all aspects of Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC). FMEC
is Technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE France Section.

*27-29 April 2020, Porto, Portugal*
*https://www.cister-labs.pt/wfcs2020 <https://www.cister-labs.pt/wfcs2020>*
*SCOPE*
This special session focuses on the topics of automation systems and
critical infrastructures, with a special focus on automation protocols and
supporting computing and communications infrastructures. With the emergence
of 5G and the Industrial Internet-of-Things (IoT) paradigm, is expected
that the next generation of Industrial Automation and Control Systems
(IACS) to expand well beyond the monolithic and self-contained premises
model, deployed on geographically constrained spaces under the
responsibility of a single operator. As a result, IACS will also evolve
towards becoming multi-tenant and distributed structures involving several
domains, such as cloud, edge, telecommunications infrastructure and utility
providers. In this perspective, the current breed of IACS has to be
improved with new tools and techniques, able to address the communications,
security, scalability and reliability needs of heavily dispersed IACS. This
session intends to address the relevant aspects that are involved in such
domains.
Currently, WFCS is the largest IEEE conference especially dedicated to
communications for (industrial) automation systems. Its aim is to provide a
forum for researchers, developers and practitioners to review and discuss
most recent trends in the area and share innovative research directions.
All papers of the Special Session will go through the regular paper
submission process of WFCS, using the following link:

Smart cities provide next generation engineering approaches for
urbanization. Smart cities aim to exploit the intellectual and social
capital as its core ingredient for urbanization, in addition to the
physical and ICT infrastructure. Smart cities are driven by several
interdependent trends. These include a pressing need for environmental
sustainability, and peoples’ increasing demands for personalisation,
mobility and higher quality of life. Technological developments such as
miniaturization of devices, internet of things (IoT), big data, and
decreasing costs of computational entities have also accelerated the smart
cities developments.
Smart cities encompass all aspects of modern day life, transportation,
healthcare, entertainment, work, businesses, social interactions,
governance, etc. It is therefore necessary to engineer smart cities as
complex systems of systems supported by a converged ubiquitous
infrastructure. A key challenge in the realization of smart cities is to
create an ecosystem of digital infrastructures that are able to work
together and enable dynamic real-time interactions between various smart
city subsystems. With this background, this workshop invites submissions
that propose state of the art solutions for smart cities systems
engineering.
A particular focus of the workshop are the studies that involve cloud
computing, fog computing, and mobile edge computing technologies. Original
articles including modelling and empirical studies and development, as well
as relevant surveys are welcome. The topics of interest of the workshop
include, but are not limited to:
* IoT based developments for smart cities engineering
* Big data technologies for smart cities
* Modelling and analysis of smart city technologies and systems
* Mobile applications for smart cities
* Analytics for smart cities
* Cloud computing based approaches for smart city engineering
* Fog and edge computing based approaches for smart city engineering
* Cloudlet based approaches for smart city engineering

---------------------------------------------------------------------
The current trends in the Internet of Things (IoT) show a growing need for flexibility. Conventional IoT applications assumed homogeneous networks with static devices, while future applications are envisioning heterogeneous environments with different radio hardware, where nodes may or must move. This means that IoT networks will experience topological changes, deriving from variations in the surrounding environment, such as electromagnetic noise, physical conditions (temperature, humidity, pressure), and moving entities (people, vehicles, animals, furniture, objects).
Under unreliable constrained wireless networks for IoT networks, messages may frequently be lost or delayed. Consequently, as constrained devices move around different wireless networks, its connectivity may be frequently disrupted, and power can be drained rapidly due to the massive amount of signaling messages for network discovery. This can in turn result in the loss of important sensing data or imposing large delays for real-time applications such as healthcare monitoring and factory automation. Moreover, existence of a heterogeneous network will increase probability of interference for devices operating in same frequency band. Beside physical mobility, interference will also impose topological changes (known as logical mobility) in such a heterogeneous IoT network, which in turn will degrade network performance.
Dealing with the dynamics of these heterogeneous IoT networks, involving mobile entities extremely resource-constrained is very challenging. The Fog Computing paradigm is an architectural enabler for designing more flexible networks. Fog computing extends the Cloud-like services to the network edge to deal with IoT devices locally to carry out most of the storage, communication, control, configuration and management.
