--------
*Call for Papers Reminder*
We solicit three types of original submissions:
- Regular papers for oral presentation (10 pages)
- Notes papers for oral presentation (4 pages)
- Abstract papers for short oral and optional poster presentations (2
pages) - **NEW Type of Paper Submission Option this Year**
Notes papers are 4-page papers intended to discuss preliminary research
results, advocate new research directions, describe public software or
datasets, or present short projects that do not warrant a 10-page paper.
Notes papers serve, in part, to encourage younger researchers and research
teams entering this field of research to share their work. We
also encourage Notes paper submissions from industry participants that may
not be able to devote resources to a full paper. While Notes papers are not
expected to have extensive evaluations, they will be reviewed based on the
novelty of their ideas, potential for impact, and quality of
presentation. This year we will also have abstract only papers, where the
presentation will include a very short oral and an optional
poster presentation. The abstract papers will be reviewed by a subset of
reviewers and focus on the novelty of the ideas and to encourage new topic

*Workshop on ICT based Collision Avoidance for VRUs (ICT4VRU) in
conjunction with INFORMATIK 2019, September 23-26, 2019, Kassel, Germany*
According to the latest report from the World Health Organization (WHO),
26 % of all road traffic deaths worldwide (about 350,000) involve
Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) like pedestrians and bicyclists.
Cooperative collision avoidance aims at protecting VRUs by assuming that
they are able to communicate their position with nearby cars by using
mobile devices. In this approach, vehicles and VRUs exchange
information, like their respective movement vectors for detecting
whether a collision is possible or not. Mobile devices offer a wide
range of sensors, which enable the recognition of specific contexts of
VRUs, like for example whether a pedestrian runs towards an intersection
or crosses a curb. Those contexts indicate unsafe VRU movements and can
be used to improve collision avoidance in terms of collision detection
performance, position accuracy, energy efficiency and more.
This workshop aims at addressing these and similar challenges for
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Car2VRU related
scenarios.
Topics of interest for the submissions include, but are not limited to:
* Car2VRU architectures, applications and use cases
* Car2X, Car2VRU (Car2P, Car2B) communications
* Analysis of latency, overhead and message frequencies for Car2VRU
communication
* Machine learning and context modelling for pedestrians and bicyclists
* Localization, GNSS improvements
* Ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC)
* Mobile edge computing (MEC)

The annual ACM/IFIP Middleware conference is a major forum for the
discussion of innovations and recent scientific advances of middleware
systems with a focus on the design, implementation, deployment, and
evaluation of distributed systems, platforms and architectures for
computing, storage, and communication. Highlights of the conference will
include a high quality single-track technical program, invited speakers,
an industrial track, panel discussions involving academic and industry
leaders, poster and demonstration presentations, a doctoral symposium,
tutorials and workshops.
Original submissions of research papers on a diversity of topics are
sought, particularly those identifying new research directions. The
topics of the conference include, but are not limited to:
* Cloud and data centers
* Virtualization, auto-scaling, provisioning, and scheduling
* Data-intensive computing (big data) and data analytics
* Stream Processing
* Machine learning
* Mobile and pervasive systems and services
* Internet-of-Things, smart cities
* Fog, Edge computing
* Cyber-physical and Real-time systems
* Energy and power-aware techniques
* Event-based, publish/subscribe, and peer-to-peer solutions
* Networking, network function virtualization, software-defined networking
* Multimedia Systems
* Fault tolerance and Consistency
* Blockchains
* Security and privacy
* Monitoring, resource management and analysis
* Middleware Design principles
* Programming abstractions and paradigms for middleware
* Reconfigurable, adaptable, and reflective approaches
* Reviews of middleware paradigms, e.g., object models, aspect
orientation, etc.
* Methodologies and tools for design, implementation, verification, and
evaluation
Original papers of three types are sought:
* Research Papers: These papers report original research on the above
topics, and will be evaluated on significance of the problem, novelty of
the solution, advancement beyond prior work, sufficient supporting
evidence and clarity of the presentation.
* Experimentation and Deployment Papers: These papers describe complete
systems, platforms, and/or comprehensive experimental evaluations of
alternative designs and solutions to well-known problems. The emphasis
during the evaluation of these papers will be less on the novelty and
more on the demonstrated usefulness and potential impact of the
contributions, the extensive experimentation involved, and the quality
and weight of the lessons learned.
* Big Ideas Papers: These are papers that have the potential for opening
up new research directions. For such papers, the potential to motivate
new research is more important than full experimental evaluation, though
some preliminary evidence of the effectiveness of the approach or idea
is important.
Confirmed keynote speakers:
Brian Cooper - Google
Monica Lam - Stanford University
Ion Stoica - Berkeley
Submission Guidelines
Submitted papers must have at most 12 pages of technical content,
including text, figures, and appendices, but excluding any number of
additional pages for bibliographic references. Note that submissions

Software and Data Artifact Availability for Accepted Papers
The authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit supporting
materials to be made publicly available as “source materials” in the ACM
Digital Library. The materials will be vetted by the Artifact
Availability Evaluation process run by a separate committee. This
submission is voluntary but encouraged and will not influence the final
decision regarding the papers. Papers that go through the Artifact
Availability Evaluation process successfully and are made available in
the ACM Digital Library will receive a badge printed on the papers
themselves.
Note to Authors:
By submitting your article for distribution in this Special Interest
Group publication, you hereby grant to ACM the following non-exclusive,
perpetual, worldwide rights:
* to publish in print on condition of acceptance by the editor
* to digitize and post your article in the electronic version of this
publication

Mission Critical Communications and Networking for Disaster Management
Deadline: June 1, 2019
CFP:
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/physical-communication/call-for-papers/sp…
In recent years, since 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) is
giving high priority to the mission critical communications networks and
services to provide communication services in disaster areas. Because,
the disaster management organizations such as fire brigades, rescue
teams, and emergency medical service providers have high priority and
broadband demand to exchange information among team and with the victims
by using mission-critical voice and data communication. To fulfill these
demands, a standalone architecture is desired that can enable
communication during the disaster situations. Moreover, broadband in
public safety gives law enforcement the advantage to access information,
stream video, and collaborate in real time. Law enforcement and border
control remains the largest application of public safety LTE. To develop
the standalone architecture and technologies, currently many
organizations are developing LTE-based disaster support architecture
because of its capability to provide the bandwidth efficient solutions.
Technologies used in existing narrowband critical communications
networks such as Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) and Project25 (P25)
have been in use for about 20 years now. These networks are well
developed and effective in supporting only voice applications but are
not suitable for future higher bandwidth applications with the
requirements of high data/video transmissions. Thus, the MC services are
expected to evolve into the future by taking inputs from critical
communications industries regarding architecture, technologies, and
service requirements. Since, in disaster situation there is a
possibility of complete architectural disaster, so to enable voice/data
communication in this situation, the unmanned air vehicle (UAV)/robots
can be used to provide the communication setup by enabling the path
towards the core network. Moreover, Device-to-Device (D2D),
Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications
are the key drivers in the emergency situation for exchanging
information from the MC site in the absence of network infrastructure to
provide MC voice and data services. To provide these services 3GPP
included the Mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT) functionality into
LTE standard which is the first major step in a series of MC Services
and functionalities demanded by the market. Recently, 3GPP Release 14
added various enhancements to its repertoire related to MCPTT, MC Data,
and MC Video. Hence, the Release 14 MC services not only required new
protocols and security enhancements but also enhancements in existing
MCPTT services to enable reuse of common functionalities. Similarly, the
Release 15, that will be the first phase of 5G, is expecting more
enhancements in MC services.
The main objective of this special section is to bring most recent
advances in physical layer of mission critical communication
technologies. Moreover, its goal is to address the challenges related to
mission critical services. Authors are required to submit previously
unpublished papers in this special issue. Topics of interest include,
but not limited to the following:
• Physical layer issues for mission critical communications and
network
• Radio resource management schemes for mission critical
communications and network
• Spectrum sharing and future spectrum requirements for mission
critical communications and network
• UAV/robots detection and localizations protocols for mission
critical communications and network
• Location-based services: indoor positioning, navigation and
mapping for mission critical communications and network
• Stochastic geometry models for mission critical communications
and network
• Disaster resilient 3D location detection protocols suitable for
mission critical communications and network
• Channel measurements and modeling for mission critical
communications and network
• Mission critical communications and network optimization by
targeting low latency applications

communications and network
• Device-to-device (D2D) discovery and communications for mission
critical communications and network
• Full duplex communications for mission critical communications
and network
• Deep learning algorithms for mission critical communications and
network
• Real-time video analytics for situation-aware mission critical
communications and network
