Call For Papers - Third International Workshop on Vehicular Adhoc
Networks for Smart Cities
[Apologies, if you receive multiple copies of this CFP]
[ http://www-lor.int-evry.fr/~laouiti/iwvsc2019/index.html |
http://www-lor.int-evry.fr/~laouiti/iwvsc2019/index.html ] Third
International Workshop on Vehicular Adhoc Networks for Smart Cities
------------------------------ ------------------------------ --------
To be held in Paris, France, November 13, 2019.
------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------
Scope of the workshop ----------------------- After the successful
edition of the first and the second IWVSC respectively in 2014 and 2016,
the third edition wil be held in Paris, France. Vehicular communication
is a key technology in intelligent transportation systems. For many
years now, the academic and industrial research communities have been
investigating these communications in order to improve efficiency and
safety of future transportation. Vehicular networking will offer a wide
variety of applications, including safety applications as well as
infotainment applications. More generally, future communicating cars
will evolve in a more intelligent environment also called smart cities.
In this context, the interaction between intelligent vehicles and
intelligent infrastructures will influence each other, to achieve each
other targets. In one hand, the car drivers (or automated cars) want to
travel in an efficient and safe manner and in the other hand smart
cities would try to offer the best life conditions for citizens by
reducing air pollution and noise for the inhabitants, and reducing
traffic congestion with a better traffic information system for car
drivers. Efficient interaction between vehicles and smart cities
infrastructures is naturally needed to reach these goals.
At the same time the set of the communicating vehicles is seen as an
Internet of Vehicles (IoV) platform providing several interesting
capacities. First with the increasing number of sensors embedded on
vehicles, a large variety of information can be collected and exploited
not only by vehicles but also by other stakeholders (car markers,
insurance companies, cities authorities, …). Second, the computing and
storage capacities available on vehicles can form a vehicular cloud that
can be exploited by third parties. Future smart cities are well placed
and a natural candidate to take profit from these extraordinary mobile
infrastructures. IWVSC'2019 aims at providing a forum and to bring
together people from both academia and industry, to discuss recent
developments in vehicular networking technologies and their interaction
with future smart cities in order to promote further research activities
and challenges.
We solicit technical papers describing original, previously unpublished
research, not currently under review by another conference or journal.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

ACM/IEEE SEC '19 Call for Posters/Demos
We invite submissions for posters and live demos to the ACM/IEEE
Symposium on Edge Computing (SEC 2019) Poster session. The poster
session provides an opportunity to present early-stage,
not-yet-ready-for-prime-time research to receive valuable feedback from
the community.
Topics must fall within the purview of the SEC 2019 call for papers.
Posters are meant to introduce new or ongoing work and provide
opportunities for authors to interact directly with conference
attendees. Posters are especially suited for presenting controversial
research directions that may generate discussion, or promising ideas not
yet validated through extensive evaluation. On the other hand, live
demos provide an opportunity to give a flavor of real-life applications
made possible by your system. Particularly encouraged are the
demonstrations that include participation by conference attendees.
Research prototypes as well as commercial products are welcome.
Demonstrations of previously published systems are also welcome. Posters
and demos will be presented during a specially designated session of the
conference.
To ensure maximum visibility and to garner high interest in the
Poster/Demo Session from all attendees, each accepted poster and demo
will have the opportunity to deliver a fast elevator pitch to overview
and stir interest in the posters.
Submission Instructions
Poster/Demo submissions must include an extended abstract no longer than
two 8.5x11-inch pages including all figures, but not including
references. This abstract should be formatted two-column formatting.
IEEE templates for Latex and Word that meet these specifications can be
found here.
The abstract title should begin with either "Poster:" or "Demo:".
Submissions must be in Adobe PDF format, and mailed to xchen26 [at] gmu
[dot] edu. With subject “SEC 2019 - Poster Submission” or “SEC 2019 -
Demo Submission”
Submissions will be judged based on their novelty as well as the
potential to generate discussions. Early-stage work will be preferred. A
good way to think about this is that if you are very close to submitting
to SEC, OSDI, SOSP, NSDI, (or similar other high profile conferences),
you may be past the sweet spot for the poster session.
The abstracts of accepted posters/demos will be posted on the conference
website and will appear in the conference proceedings.
Best Poster/Demo
All posters and demos will be considered for the Best Poster Award and
the Best Demo Award respectively. An independent review committee will
select the winners at the conference.
Poster/Demo Chair
Xiang Chen, George Mason University

Dear Colleagues,
this is an announcement of JNSM SI on Intelligent and Trustworthy
Internet Edge
JOURNAL OF NETWORK AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT (SPRINGER)
SPECIAL ISSUE
Intelligent and Trustworthy Internet Edge
*** Submissions due: December 31, 2019 ***
https://www.springer.com/?SGWID=0-102-2-1338221-0
[We encourage early submission, please check the open submission
schedule policy below.]
The emerging and the ever-growing functionality of Internet edges, where
physical and virtual things are connected to the network, are opening a
wide set of new opportunities, both for novel services/applications and
increased efficiency/scalability. These opportunities include locally
sharing information, collaborating, and generating/consuming a huge
amount of data, by involving a variety of entities, such as micro-data
centers, end devices, and resource-sufficient networking nodes. While
Fog/Edge Computing is usually expected to bring the resources, including
storage and computation closer to users (in comparison to Cloud
Computing), a significant effort is needed at the Internet edge to
provide a trustworthy computation edge networking environment able to
support new computation technologies. Indeed, distributed big data
analytics, modern Machine Learning (ML) technology, Artificial
Intelligence (AI), real-time data collection and processing, scalable
and distributed security solutions such as blockchain, and distributed
secure data processing, may play a significant role. Moreover, new
networking technologies related to Information-Centric Networking (ICN),
Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization
(NFV), and network slicing have emerged as the novel paradigms for fast
and efficient delivering and retrieving data. This triggers the
convergence between the emerging networking concepts and the new
computation technologies to reach the vision of an intelligent and
trustworthy Internet edge.
In order to implement such trustworthy edge networks and services,
several operation and management challenges associated with intelligent
and trustworthy Internet edge need to be addressed. These challenges
include: trustworthy connectivity and network resource management for
heterogeneous networking (HetNet); security monitoring, measurement, and
assessment to ensure networking and management functions to protect
data; effective ML and computation models to consider different
resources (storage, networking, and computing), security requirements,
and real-time constraints; trustworthiness of data sources; in-network
data processing and aggregation, intelligent planning and decision
models to handle security and application requirements. This special
issue aims to bring together leading research on management
infrastructure, applications and the most recent advances in Internet
edge-based secure network management solutions. We hence encourage
original paper submissions, which have not been published or submitted
for publication elsewhere, from both academia and industry presenting
novel research addressing the aforementioned challenges.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Secure intelligent edge systems and networking
architectures/protocols to integrate storage, computation, and networking;
- Secure intelligent coordination and networking between edge,
fog, and cloud;
- Software architectures and toolkits for secure intelligent
Internet edge;
- Trust management and networking among intelligent edges;
- Intelligent and secure service function/computation chaining;
- Secure NFV, SDN, and network slicing for distributed computations;
- Secure ICN with/for edge-enabled Internet;
- Secure in-network computation for future networks, inter-data
center networking and 5G;
- Privacy management for intelligent Internet edge;
- Accountability, reliability, and resiliency for intelligent
Internet edge;
- Quality of Service/Experience and energy efficiency for secure
intelligent Internet edges;
- Distributed AI with/for secure edge networking;
- Distributed ML with enhanced data privacy, ownership, and
obfuscation;
- Integrating Blockchain with distributed edges and Internet finance;
- Data mining and big data analytics for security management in
edge networking;
- Trustworthy data collection and processing for big data at the edge;
- Privacy-preserving big data processing at the edge;
- Emerging applications for intelligent secure Internet edge, such
as AR/VR, IoT, industrial IoT for Industry 4.0, 5G, cyber-physical
systems, smart cities, vehicular systems, healthcare;
- Management framework for intelligent secure Internet edge;
- Security performance monitoring, measurements, modelling, and
evaluations for intelligent Internet edge;
- SDN/NFV security architectures and applications for Internet edge;
- Security mechanisms in wireless SDN/NFV.
Planned Schedule
Open-submission schedule: in this special issue, we implement an “open”
submission approach, where we do not have a submission time period.
Interested authors can submit the paper any time before a fixed
deadline, and the review process will be started right after the paper
submission, i.e., in a first-in first-serve fashion. The detailed
submission schedule is presented as follows:
- Manuscript due: December 31, 2019
- Revision notification: 2-month after the submission
- Revised paper due: 1.5-month after the revision notification
- Final notification: 1-month after the revised paper notification
- Expected Publication of the Special Issue: third-quarter of 2020
(early accepted papers will be accessible online before the deadline)
Submission Format and Review Guidelines
The submitted manuscripts must be written in English and describe
original research not published nor currently under review by other
journals or conferences. Parallel submissions will not be accepted. All
submitted papers, if relevant to the theme and objectives of the special
issue, will go through an external peer-review process. Submissions

ACM Mobicom 2020 in London, UK!
Call for Papers
The ACM MobiCom conference seeks papers describing significant research
contributions in the field of wireless networking and mobile computing.
MobiCom solicits papers that address important research challenges,
including but not limited to communication networks, energy, computing,
security and user experience. Successful papers should propose novel
ideas to attack such problems through rigorous analysis, system design,
and/or real-world measurement and deployment of mobile networks, systems
and applications.
We want MobiCom’20 to be daring and emphasize novelty and creativity.
The more novel the concept, the harder it can be to fully develop or
evaluate all aspects, and the review process will take this into
account. We encourage authors to discuss not only the significance but
also the limitations of their ideas. We strongly encourage authors to
describe how they will provide access to well-documented datasets,
modeling and/or simulation tools, and codebases to support the
reproducibility of their methods. MobiCom continues the two-deadline
model and the reviewing process with one-shot revision piloted last year
to improve the quality and timeliness of publications.
We invite submissions on a wide range of mobile computing and wireless
networking research, including but not limited to:
* Applications of machine learning to mobile/wireless research
* Backscatter communication and wireless power
* Edge computing
* Embedded and energy-harvesting systems
* Experimental platforms and infrastructures for wireless/mobile
research
* Implanted and wearable computing
* Intersection between mobile/wireless research, cloud computing,
and software-defined networking
* Long-range/Low-power wide-area wireless networking
* Low-latency networking
* Machine-to-machine communications
* Millimeter wave and terahertz communications
* Mobile data science & analysis
* Mobile health
* Mobile web, video, virtual reality, and other applications
* Next-generation 5G mobile networks
* Novel applications of wireless signals
* Robotic and drone-based networking
* Security and privacy issues/solutions for mobile/wireless systems
* Sensing with radio, light, sound, and acoustics
* Ubiquitous computing and mobile human computer interaction
* Visible light communications
* Wireless localization and tracking
In addition to full research papers as described above, MobiCom also
invites submission in the following three categories:
Challenge Papers
The conference invites submissions of short papers (limited to eight
pages excluding references) that present revolutionary new ideas or that
challenge existing assumptions prevalent among the wireless research
community. These "challenge papers" should provide stimulating ideas or
visions that may open up exciting avenues and/or influence the direction
of future research. Descriptions of new products or evolution of
existing work are not appropriate topics for papers in this category.
While an exhaustive evaluation of the proposed ideas is not necessary,
insight and in-depth understanding of the issues is expected. Challenge
papers will be reviewed by the program committee and if selected, become
part of the conference technical program and be published in the
conference proceedings. Challenge papers should be submitted using the
same submission procedure adopted for the full papers. The title of
these papers must bear a "Challenge:" prefix.
Experience Papers
The conference invites submission of short papers (limited to eight
pages excluding references) that present extensive experiences with
implementation, deployment, and operations of mobile systems and
wireless networks. Desirable papers are expected to contain real data as
well as descriptions of the practical lessons learned. The experience
papers will be evaluated by the program committee, primarily for (i)
richness of their data or experiences, (ii) inferences drawn or lessons
learned, (iii) discovery of new problems, and (iv) their
impact/potential impact on current and future mobile systems and
wireless networks, as well as on society. Note that a paper that builds
a system and presents a limited experimental evaluation is NOT suitable
as an experience paper. Selected experience papers will become a part of
the conference technical program and will be published in the conference
proceedings. Experience papers should be submitted according to the same
submission procedure as full papers, and their title must bear an
"Experience:" prefix.
Verification Papers
MobiCom welcomes contributions that seek to verify and/or characterize
recent breakthrough results in mobile computing using rigorous
experimental methodologies with the goal of extensively and thoroughly
characterizing the operating parameters under which these results can be
reproduced. Such submissions should be short papers (limited to eight
pages excluding references) with "Verification:" as a prefix in the
title. Selected verification papers will become a part of the conference
technical program and will be published in the conference proceedings.
Verification papers should be submitted according to the same submission
procedure as full papers.
Two Deadlines and Reviewing Process with One-shot Revision
MobiCom’20 offers authors the options of two deadlines and adds a
one-shot revision process to enhance the timeliness and quality of the
scientific results from the research community. Each paper will go
through the same rigorous reviewing process as in previous MobiCom
conferences. The review decisions will be one of the following:
* Accept: Accepted papers will be presented at the MobiCom
conference and appear as part of the proceedings. In the meantime,
authors are permitted to talk about these upcoming publications, e.g.,
listing them on CVs. The publications will also be put on the MobiCom
website.
* Reject: Rejected papers cannot be resubmitted until 11 months have
passed since the last MobiCom deadline they were submitted to. Note
that, rejected papers from MobiCom 2018 are welcome for submission to
MobiCom 2020 in both the rounds. We strongly encourage the authors to
consider the feedback they got before submitting the paper to MobiCom 2020.
* One-Shot-Revision: Papers where a revision is required will be
given specific action points and can be resubmitted for the next
deadline. For such papers, the reviewers will be required to articulate
a maximum of three changes/clarifications that they would like to see.
After the resubmission, the same reviewers will evaluate the paper based
on whether the authors have properly addressed the reviewers’
requests. Unlike in the shepherding process, the requested action points
may include running additional experiments that obtain specific results.
During this revision period, the paper is still considered under review
to MobiCom and therefore cannot be submitted to other conferences unless
the authors first withdraw it from consideration. We expect the one-shot
revision to be used only for a small fraction of the papers.
Paper Submission Instructions
All paper submissions will be handled electronically at the MobiCom’20
paper submission website<https://mobicom20.hotcrp.com/>. Authors should
prepare a PDF version of their full paper.
Before final submission, you are expected to make sure that your paper
complies with the following requirements. You are strongly discouraged
from violating these requirements with the aim of including additional
material: submissions that violate the formatting requirements may not
be reviewed. You can visually inspect a page-by-page report of your
paper format using the same tool as the submission system via a separate
online form<https://www.sysnet.ucsd.edu/sigops/banal/index.php>. After
the submission deadline, we will use the same tool to check the
conformance of papers. The format checking tool uses heuristics and can
make mistakes. The PC chairs will manually inspect and possibly reject
those papers with evident format violations. However, no paper will be
rejected due to format violations without first being checked by hand.
Any papers that do not adhere to the following guidelines may be
immediately rejected:
* Full papers: Contain no more than twelve (12) single-spaced and
numbered pages, including figures, tables, any appendices, and any other
material, followed by as many pages as necessary for bibliographic
references. Papers whose non-bibliographic content is longer than 12
pages will not be reviewed.
* Experience/Verification/Challenge Papers: Contain no more than
eight (8) single-spaced and numbered pages, including figures, tables,
any appendices, and any other material, followed by as many pages as
necessary for bibliographic references. Papers whose non-bibliographic
content is longer than eight pages will not be reviewed.
* Font size no smaller than 10 points.
* Double column format with each column having dimensions 9.25
inches x 3.33 inches, a space of 0.33 inches between the two columns,
and with no more than 55 lines of text per column.
* Submissions must be in PDF (Portable Document Format) authors
should ensure that they are compatible with Adobe Acrobat (English
version). Any other formats, including Postscript and MS-Word, will not
be accepted.
* Fit properly on US letter-sized paper (8.5 inches by 11 inches).
* Authors' names must not appear anywhere in the paper or in the PDF
file. The PDF file must also not contain any embedded hyperlinks, as
these may compromise reviewer anonymity.
* Limit the file size to less than 15 MB: contact the PC chairs if
you have a file larger than this limit.
You may find these
LaTeX<https://sigmobile.org/mobicom/2018/files/sig-alternate-10pt.cls>
and
MS-Word<https://sigmobile.org/mobicom/2018/files/word-acm-10pt-on-12pt-7.0x9.25.doc>
templates useful in complying with the above requirements, but as an
author you bear the final responsibility to verify (manually or through
the above online paper checker) that your submission is format-compliant.
All submitted papers will be evaluated through a double-blind reviewing
process, with the identities of the authors withheld from the reviewers.
Please direct any questions about the paper submission process to the
Program Co-Chairs Bozidar Radunovic and Qian Zhang at
mobicom20-pc-chairs __at__ acm.org<http://acm.org>.
Awards
All accepted regular papers will be considered for the Best Paper Award.
The program committee will select a number of candidates for the award
among accepted regular papers. The winner will be selected at the
conference, taking into consideration both the paper and the paper's
presentation. We will also have a Best Community Paper Award. Among all
accepted papers, the program committee will select one that contributes
the most to the broader research community in terms of real data, or new
software, hardware or other artefacts.

*Workshop Description:*
Internet of Things (IoT) enables network objects of the most diverse types
to dynamically cooperate and make their resources available in order to
reach a common goal. Such a paradigm is currently revolutionizing a variety
of fields, facilitating and improving human life and work. Among them are
Smart Buildings, which are characterized by the presence of smart devices,
which give the opportunity to monitor and to remotely control key equipment
within buildings. In such an intelligent environment, major goals are to
improve the comfort and quality of life of people and to provide
decision-support tools in order to aid users in making cost-effective
decisions when utilizing electrical energy. Smart Buildings integrate
autonomy and adaptive control and are considered as the next generation of
buildings that must be allocated in Smart Cities. Smart Building links
automation, sustainable development, information technology, security,
industrial controllers and communications (among other systems) to achieve
an optimal level of comfort and energy consumption. As for now, the
research on this topic has a sufficient degree of advancement, however
several issues still remain open. Indeed, this scenario is lacking
people-centric applications, where the presence of intelligent tools can
augment the capabilities of the objects in constructing a relationship with
the users and exploit the user profile to construct personalized services;
moreover, it is important to define methodologies and algorithms to analyze
and exploit the context in which the user lives and works. Based on these
considerations, the objective of this workshop is to highlight recent
research, development, and evaluation of novel systems in Smart Building
scenarios. We are seeking for original, previously unpublished work,
addressing key issues and challenges in this area. Potential topics
include, but are not limited to:
- Active and Collaborative Sensing in Smart Building
- Behavioural and Energy Consumption Analytics
- Implementation of Social IoT for Smart Building
- IoT applications, systems, and testbeds for Smart Building
- Models of context and context awareness
- IoT for Smart Building devices and accessibility
- New design paradigms in human-machine interaction for Smart Building
- Cloud and mobile cloud architectures supporting Smart Building through
IoT
- Privacy-preserving data processing techniques
- Big data, analytics, and signal processing for Smart Building enabled
by an IoT approach
- People-centric applications in Smart Building
- Algorithms, architectures and platforms for Active and Assisted Living
- Safety and Security preservation in Smart Building
- Indoor location and guidance applications
