Scope of the workshop
----------------------------------
Wireless Sensor, Robot and UAV networks are characterized by the
coordination and mobility of nodes that are able to accomplish distributed
sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by the control and mobility of
actors, the networking process and applications embrace a whole new set of
possibilities. Specialized networked systems, made of intelligent devices
(such as robots and UAVs), may deploy, repair and relocate sensors to
improve coverage, build routes and fix network partition to ensure data
communication, change network topology to shape routing patterns and
balance energy consumption, and to respond to reported events in a timely
and effective manner. Also, they might be able to integrate within existing
and upcoming mobile infrastructures (e.g. the 5G), by enabling the sensing
operations on complex and dynamic scenarios, and to process the data on the
edge or to offload them toward existing cloud services. The benefits are
limited only by imagination. As an emerging field, ground and aerial
robotic systems are in need of new networking techniques as well as of
novel cloud/edge architectures for data gathering and processing that might
unlock the potentials of such systems. To this purpose, WiSARN aims at
bringing together state-of-the-art contributions on the design,
specification and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols
for current and future applications of sensor robotic and aerial networks.
IEEE WiSARN 2021 will serve as incubator for scientific communities that
share a particular research agenda in the area of the workshop’s topics.
Moreover, it will provide its participants with opportunities to understand
the major technical and application challenges of UAV/Robot networking as
well as exchange and discuss scientific and engineering ideas related to
their architecture, protocol, algorithm, and application design.
Topics of interest
----------------------------------
Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in design, implementation
and evaluation of wireless sensor, robot and UAV networks. Possible topics

The 4th International Workshop on Edge Systems, Analytics and Networking
(EdgeSys'21) co-located with EuroSys 2021
26 April, 2021 | Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
https://edge-sys.github.io/2021/
-----------------------------------------------
Given the growing demand for real-time gathering and processing of vast
amount of data from data-intensive services such as autonomous driving and
augmented reality (AR), we are witnessing a visible trend to push computing
and data analytics closer to the edge of networks for benefits in low
latency, reliability, throughput, security and privacy. Supported by
lightweight virtualization technologies such as Docker Containers and
Unikernels, the decentralized edge computing paradigm aims to offer
efficient access to various geographically distributed computing resources.
In this context, the EdgeSys workshop focuses on the confluence of edge
computing, decentralized communication and distributed computing. For
example, there are several industry-led edge computing and orchestration
platforms such as KubeEdge, Firecracker, and Azure Sphere. In the
decentralized communication space, systems such as Mastodon and Matrix have
been developed. There are also lots of academic research activities on
mobile data and computation offloading (e.g., Cloudlet, Talket, ThinkAir,
MAUI, and MADNet) and systems that combine decentralization and
computation/storage offloading together, such as IPFS. In addition, as data
analytics and machine learning are increasingly offered as a service, the
next phase of evolution is to extend the offerings beyond basic algorithms
and push the analytics closer to the edge where the data from users and
devices is first captured. In this regard, edge computing has the potential
to enable a new class of real-time data analytics platforms and services.
We expect such edge-driven data analytics will emerge and reshape the
existing cloud-based data processing pipelines. The knowledge from this new
edge pipeline can further power future cyber-physical and network services,
such as cognitive assistance and proactive accident prevention for
autonomous driving.
The 4th International Workshop on Edge Systems, Analytics and Networking
(EdgeSys'21), in conjunction with ACM EuroSys 2021, aims to bring together
system researchers, data scientists, engineers and practitioners to
identify open directions and discuss the latest research ideas and results
on edge systems, analytics and networking, especially those related to
novel and emerging technologies and use cases. The EdgeSys'21 workshop
focuses on systems, analytics and networking aspects, covering system
architecture, distributed ML algorithms, decentralized networking,
distributed consensus and ledger techniques, edge services and data analysis.
Over the past three years, EdgeSys has been gathering substantial community
contributions in edge computing domain - especially with high quality TPC,
keynotes, panel and technical papers from US, Europe, and Asia, including
Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft Research, Intel, IBM, Nokia, Samsung,
Toyota, Telefónica, MIT, Berkeley, Columbia, Yale, UCLA, Cambridge,
Imperial, EPFL, TU Delft, MPI, TUM, Tsinghua, Peking and Fudan.
The topics include but are not limited to the following:
- System Architecture for Edge Computing
- Serverless and In-network Computing (P4)
- Edge Storage Systems
- Edge-driven Data Analytics
- Distributed Machine Learning for Edge Analytics and Services
- Edge Security and Privacy

The International Teletraffic Congress ITC 33, to be held during
31/08-03/09 2021, at the Avignon University, France, is the 33th edition of
this international flagship congress in the field of networking science and
practice. ITC was founded back in 1955 by enthusiastic scientists and
engineers who were willing to deploy networks in a holistic way. Since
then, it has established a multi-decade tradition as the primary forum for
presenting and discussing the latest technical advances in the broad areas
of teletraffic models, network systems, and measurements.
ITC 33 focuses on the future networks taking advantage of 5G and artificial
intelligence (AI), towards “AI-integrated Networks”. Indeed, service
providers from all over the world are already reaping the benefits of
integrating AI into their networks. For ITC 33, cutting-edge papers
spanning both theory and experimentation are solicited in all areas of
networking, ranging from traffic engineering and control with application
also to emerging softwarized/virtualized network paradigms, up to
innovative wireless scenarios brought about by the emergence of 5G and IoT
systems. We especially encourage original contributions which bridge the
gap between performance modeling and real-life operational aspects,
including works which leverage measurement data to provide a better
understanding of the wired and wireless networks operation under realistic
conditions.
ITC 33 solicits original contributions that address the latest changes and
developments in design, modelling, measurement, and performance evaluation
of communication systems, networks, and services. ITC 33 is structured into
eight different areas. The objectives in these areas include, among others,
energy-efficiency and green IT, network security and privacy, QoS and QoE,
and resilience. The technical sessions will be structured around, but are
not limited to, the following topics:
• Performance Evaluation, Control and Optimization

ACM Transactions on Internet Technology (TOIT)
Special Issue on Recent Advances in Networks and Distributed Systems
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Scope
-----
Several recent developments like the advent of the Internet-of-Things,
network softwarization, mission-critical applications, and artificial
intelligence have posed challenges for the Internet, and more generally for
networks and distributed systems:
(1: IoT) The Internet-of-Things will boost the number of Internet nodes
well beyond the billions, leads to new traffic patterns (e.g.,
high-frequency low-volume), and accelerates the other developments
described hereafter.
(2: SDN++) Softwarization "conquers" the net. What has started with SDN and
NFV will continue to lead to more flexibility and enable disruptive change,
such as the competitive co-existence of old and new, e.g., content-centric,
world-wide networks. As this softwarization significantly increases the
complexity of today's networks, new and more security problems will result.
Moreover, softwarization comes at a performance price, which is at odds
with mission-critical, real-time communication.
(3: MCA) Mission-critical applications, formerly confined to dedicated
real-time systems and (TSN, industrial Ethernet, ...) networks, are
conquering public and wide area networks. This impacts technologies and
protocols (such as 5G URLLC) as well as architectures, such as approaches
to move cloud functionality closer to the action scene, e.g., via fog and
edge computing.
(4: AI.net) The resurgence of AI, evoked by stunning successes of machine
learning, boosts the need for computing resources that cannot be embedded
in myriads of IoT devices and energy-critical handhelds like smartphones.
This and the need for joint processing, requires shuffling 'big data' from
the action scene to those resources, accelerating the need for offloading
approaches and, depending on the application and the distribution of
stakeholders, aggravating the three afore-mentioned challenges.
These four challenges - abbreviated as IoT, SDN++, MCA, and AI - are
densely interwoven, both mutually supporting and mutually aggravating each
other. In the TOIT special issue, we bring together contributions to all
four challenges and seek to track down their positive and negative
interdependencies.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
---------------------------------------------------
* Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and their application in,
and impacts on, networking
* Evolution from cloud computing to mobile cloud, fog and edge computing
* Consistency, reliability, availability, and programming support for
meeting the MCA challenge in networks
* Contributions to the four challenges in context of cyber-physical systems
* Emerging networked applications
* Green and energy-efficient networks and networked systems
* Information-centric networking, content distribution and retrieval, and
their co-existence with classical networks
* Network architectures and protocols
* Approaches to the pertinent network security and privacy aspects
* Methods for design, implementation, and analysis of networked systems
considering the recent challenges and advances
* Pertinent middleware architectures and platforms for networked systems
* Pertinent concepts for mobile, ad-hoc, opportunistic, vehicular, sensor
networks
* Advancements to software-defined networking, network function
virtualization, and further network softwarization
* Reflection of recent challenges in SoA, web services, and mobile services
* Advancements in social networks, social computing, data-intensive
computing
* Novel concepts for tactile and low-latency communication
* Transport- and application-layer protocols in response to the four
challenges
