Special issue on EDGE COMPUTING IN PERVASIVE SYSTEMS
Pervasive and Mobile Computing (Elsevier) - IF 2.769
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/pervasive-and-mobile-computing/call-for-p…
SCOPE AND TOPICS
Edge computing is the utilization of computation / storage /
connectivity resources available at the "edge" of the Internet:
mobile user terminals (e.g., smart phones, tablets), smart objects
(e.g., IoT sensors and actuators), access network devices (e.g.,
WiFi routers, cellular base stations). Calling back from remote
datacenter cloud functions and deploying them on edge devices create
a new world of opportunities for pervasive and mobile computing
applications and services, which may benefit from very low latency,
increased bandwidth, and immediate availability of user context
(e.g., geographical position, radio network information, local
network topology). This new network calls for novel control and
data forwarding mechanisms to account for its intrinsic characteristics
such as volatility, its distributed nature, and the decoupling of
functions among heterogeneous hardware infrastructures.
This special issue invites technical papers that focus on both
theoretical and applied research contributions and that present
original ideas, analytical and simulation results, and real-world
experiences in the context of smart edge computing.
This special issue will focus on (but will not be limited to) the
following topics:
- Integration of edge computing in 5G (and beyond) technologies
- Analytics, streaming, and real-time processing at the edge
- Data storage, distribution, and management in edge systems
- Edge computing for IoT and Industrial IoT applications
- Distributed AI / ML solutions for edge systems
- Security, privacy, and trustworthiness at the edge
- Edge for the realization of cyber-physical pervasive systems
- Distributed consensus and ledger technologies for edge computing
- Communication protocols and technologies for edge networking
- Programming and computation abstractions for edge computing
- Modeling and performance evaluation of pervasive edge computing
- Integration of edge computing in fog / (multi-)cloud scenarios
- Lightweight edge virtualization to enable pervasive applications
- New network architectures for distributed cellular deployments

2nd Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Trends
in Engineering Low-Power Networks
(NewNets - co-located with WoWMoM)
August 31 - September 3, 2020 - Cork,
Ireland
https://newnets2020.github.io/
AIMS AND SCOPE
A founding pillar of the IoT concept is the availability of low-cost
low-power devices with wireless technologies providing sensing,
communication, and actuation. In the past decade, the research community
have produced proven solutions to build low-power mesh networks.
Traditionally, the focus has been on short-range radio communication (e.g.,
ZigBee, Bluetooth, and ZWave.). An appealing alternative that have gained
momentum in the IoT landscape, is to equip the nodes with long-range low
power radio modules. As a result, long-range radio communication
technologies (e.g., SigFox, LoRa, NB-IoT, and 802.15.4g) are considered as
candidate technologies for many low-power wide area network (LPWAN)
applications, especially those that require extended coverage such as
citywide sensing, environmental monitoring, or remote infrastructure
monitoring.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners
working in the field of IoT from both academia and industry, to discuss and
explore short- and long-range solutions, the tradeoffs between these two
paradigms, as well as how they can be used in synergy. In order to push the
state of the art, several points need to be addressed: new features for the
long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming), radio
resource management, regulations and policies on spectrum usage and
sharing, business case analysis that are more well suited for certain
vertical markets.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- protocol design
- hardware platform design
- modeling and analysis of low-power short or/and long-range communication
- reliability, adaptability, and dependability of short and long-range
communication solutions
- new features for the long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates,
roaming)
- wake-up radios for short- or/and long-range technologies
- radio resource management
- applications domains (e.g., smart cities, smart health, smart buildings,
smart transportation)
- deployment experiences, case studies, and lessons learned
- evaluation and testbeds
- regulations and policies on spectrum usage and sharing
- business case analysis that are more well suited for certain vertical
markets.
SUBMISSION AND FORMATTING
Submitted papers must contain between 4 and 6 single spaced U.S. letter
pages, including all figures, tables, and references. All submissions must
be written in English.

*SwarmNet 2020*
2nd IEEE WoWMoM Workshop on Wireless Networking, Planning, and Computing
for UAV Swarms
August 31 - September 3, 2020, Cork, Ireland (
https://swarmnet-workshop.github.io/2020)
Recent advances in embedded computing, wireless communication, flight
controllers, and miniaturized sensing have enabled the growth of unmanned
aerial vehicles (UAVs). Networked swarms of such UAVs promise breakthroughs
in public safety, commercial, and military applications including
search-and-rescue, disaster response, infrastructure inspection,
environmental monitoring, virtual/augmented reality, and ISR (intelligence,
surveillance and reconnaissance).
The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers working at the
intersection of wireless networking, mobile computing, sensing, robotics,
and/or planning to address a myriad of fundamental technical challenges
that must be solved before UAV swarms (and, more broadly, multi-UAV
systems) can be safely, effectively, and widely deployed. Since many of
these challenges will not be able to be addressed without the help of UAV
swarm simulation platforms, experimental testbeds/prototypes, and
experimental evaluations, papers on these topics are especially encouraged.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Communication and networking protocols for UAV swarms
· Resilient communication protocols for multi-agent planning and
control
· Delay-tolerant networking for UAVs
· Network topology control for performance optimization
(connectivity, throughput, etc.)
· Wireless localization for UAVs
· Communication architectures and technologies for UAV air-traffic
control
· UAVs in 4G/5G cellular networks
· UAV integration in the urban IoT
· Aerial video streaming for virtual/augmented reality
· Data offloading and mobile edge computing with UAVs
· Air-to-air, air-to-ground, and ground-to-air channel modeling for
UAVs
· Cyber-security for UAVs
· UAV swarm network simulation platforms
· UAV swarm network testbeds, experimental evaluation, and
prototyping
Submissions may be up to 6 pages in length (including figures and
references), formatted in two-column IEEE conference style with font size
10 point or greater. For the camera-ready (accepted) papers, authors can
buy one additional page, for a total length of up to 7 pages. Papers must
be submitted electronically to EDAS (TBA – Please visit the workshop’s
website for updates) by March 15, 2020.

Call for Papers
3rd Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems
and Internet of Things (CPS-IoTBench'20)
in conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2020
September 21-25, 2020 - London, UK
https://cpsbench20.ethz.ch/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last decade, research on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet
of Things (IoT) has led to smart systems at different scales and
environments,
from smart homes to smart cities and smart factories. Despite many
successes,
it is difficult to measure and compare the utility of these results due to a
lack of standard evaluation criteria and methodologies. This problem
inhibits
evaluation against the state-of-the-art, the comparability of different
integrated designs (e.g., control and networking), and the applicability of
tested scenarios to present and future real-world cyber-physical
applications
and deployments. This state of affairs is alarming, it significantly hinders
further progress in CPS and IoT systems research.
******** TOPICS ********
The Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things
(CPS-IoTBench) brings together researchers from the different
sub-communities
to engage in a lively debate on all facets of rigorously evaluating and
comparing cyber-physical networks and systems. Unique to this workshop, we
seek reports describing the reproduction of experimental results reported in
published papers. Examples of this include researchers looking to validate
another piece of work before comparing their own to it, or industrial
organizations evaluating a new technology or demonstrating the robustness
of their technology before customer delivery.
We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit
papers focusing on one of the following topics:
- describe an attempt to reproduce experimental results from published work;
- identify fundamental challenges and open questions in rigorous
benchmarking
and evaluation of cyber-physical networks and systems;
- report on success stories/failures with using standard evaluation
criteria;
- present example benchmark systems and approaches from any relevant
community
(embedded systems, networking, control, robotics, machine learning);
- propose new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the
level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results;
- report on examples of best practices in different CPS sub-communities
towards achieving the repeatability of results;
- present models to capture & compare the properties of algorithms &
systems;
Well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations are sufficient to
support a
paper's claims.
Submitted papers must be written in English and may contain up to 6 pages,
including references, figures, and tables. We will follow a double-blind
reviewing process, therefore authors must anonymize their submissions.
References to the authors' own previous work must not be omitted, but
referred to in third person. Accepted papers will be published either on
OpenReview.net or on the ACM Digital Library.
******** IMPORTANT DATES ********
- Paper submission deadline: May 15, 2020 (11:59:59PM EST)
- Notification of acceptance: July 1, 2020
